Episode 6: Water We Doing?- Immunity Challenge
For once, upon the completion of the commercial break, the cameras didn't immediately pan in on Chris. Instead, they panned on the twelve present campers making their way down to the main camp area, where they saw a 30ft long, 10ft wide, and 1ft thick crash mat. Lying next to the mat was a solid iron wall with a brick pattern and with the same dimensions as the mat. Also next to the mat were several large containers filled with red, green, or blue coloured water, three medium-sized buckets filled with rolls of duct tape, and roughly twelve water sprayers. To everyone, this challenge appeared to be pretty fun, and they were perfectly fine with that.
"Is this gonna be like one of those frat parties?" Matthew asked jokingly.
"Well, there's no alcohol," Veronica noted, "So probably not."
"Alright campers! Welcome to your next challenge!" Chris welcomed, "But before we begin, let's bring back Devin and Laila from Boney Island!"
Immediately after Chris finished his line, a helicopter flew in and hovered roughly twenty feet above the campers. After a few more seconds, a rope ladder dropped from the helicopter, allowing Devin and Laila to join the others. Upon landing, they rejoined their respective teams, allowing the helicopter to fly away once again.
"Devin, Laila, welcome back," Chris welcomed, not really caring, "How was Boney Island?"
"Rough," Laila replied, quickly and tersely, "That's about it."
"That's an understatement!" Devin exclaimed, "Y'know what, I might as well say something,"
"Devin...don't!" Katelyn whispered as Devin stepped away from his team and faced the other campers.
"And this is where he blows up his game..."- Katelyn
"Just to let you all know, Laila found an invincibility head on Boney Island, and she tried to hide it," Devin revealed.
"I did not!" Laila claimed as she turned her pockets inside out, "I'm not even hiding it!"
"It's somewhere!" Devin insisted, "Just so you all know, she has it, and she's sly! Do not trust her!"
"Just shut up, dude," Laila responded, visibly annoyed.
"Nah nah nah!" Devin declined, waving his index finger at her, "I ain't done-"
"Cork it, will ya'?" Katelyn ordered as she covered Devin's mouth with her arm and pulled him back to their team, "Sorry about that, Laila."
"Whatever, it ain't your fault," Laila replied, still upset.
"I can't believe Devin called me out like this! He will not let this go! Even if I did find the invincibility statue, why should he care? I'm not on his team!"- Laila
"I put Laila on blast today because I want everyone to know that she cannot be trusted. I'm especially hoping that Daniel gets the hint and tries to go after her for me. After all, he wants to align with me, so it would be nice of him to get rid of Laila."- Devin
"Anywho...it's time for your next challenge!" Chris declared, "Behind me is a brick wall...sorta. Each team will have fifteen minutes to duct tape one of their teammates to the wall. Be sure that they're secure; because after fifteen minutes, we'll make the wall upright, and then we'll commence the second portion of the challenge. Three members of each team must use their sprayers to spray water at a camper that isn't on your team, in hopes of loosening their tape. Whoever falls off the wall first loses the challenge for the team, and they'll end up having to vote one of their own off tonight. Understood?"
"Seems a bit tame, don't you think, Chris?" Tory asked, noting the lack of danger in the challenge.
"If I had full creative freedom, I would have you guys shoot snakes, spiders, and crabs at those on the wall," Chris revealed, "But of course, the lawyers win. Now, to keep things fair, because the Merciless Moose are still an all-female team-"
"I'm right here!" Devin exclaimed, upset.
"The Wild Wolverines and the Chaotic Cougars must each bench a male that participated in the last immunity challenge," Chris ordered as he pulled out his airhorn, "Ready, set, GO!"
With that abrupt ending, Chris sounded his airhorn, forcing the campers to spring into action. It went without saying it out loud that they wanted to get someone taped as quickly as possible. Not only was there some thought put into who should be taped, there was thought put into how people should be taped. Each team appeared to have a different strategy.
"Katelyn should be taped," Ellie ordered as she grabbed a roll of tape, "Get down."
"Why me?" Katelyn asked, not wanting to be taped to a wall.
"You're the smallest and the lightest!" Devin pointed out, "Sorry, but it's what we gotta do!"
As much as Katelyn wanted to disagree, facts were facts: her light weight would put less strain on the tape. Swallowing her words, she put on her safety goggles and laid down on the wall, allowing her three teammates to tape her to the wall.
"Are you sure you guys know what you're doing?" Katelyn asked as Ellie taped her shoulders to the board.
"Don't worry about it," Kiana assured, "I've done this many times."
"Back home, my cousins and I have a YouTube channel where we play games and the loser has to do a punishment, one of which is being duct taped to a wall. I've learned a thing or two from that."- Kiana
"Be sure to curve the tape around her body and then tightly secure it to the wall," Kiana reminded as she taped Katelyn's ankles to the wall, "That way, water can't go under it and ruin the whole thing."
While Katelyn reluctantly accepted her fate as the one being taped, Rhythm gladly accepted the same role on the Chaotic Cougars. To her, it was the best position to be in; all she had to do was lay back, get taped, eventually get sprayed with water, and do her best not to move too much. Even if she fell first, she couldn't be blamed, and that was what mattered to her.
"You alright there, Rhythm?" Aaron asked as he looked at his teammate; her eyes currently closed.
"Yeah, just trying to relax," Rhythm admitted, smiling.
"Hey, be sure to wrap the tape around her body before attaching it to the wall," Tory reminded as he continued to wrap tape around Rhythm's right wrist, "Just imagine that you're chaining someone to the wall."
"I'd rather not think about that..." Veronica remarked as she grabbed another roll of tape.
"Less talking, more taping," Matthew reminded, causing his fellow teammates to speed up.
"Honestly, I don't think that this challenge would be too difficult for me to do. I mean, It's spraying water; that ain't hard. But since Tory and Aaron have to compete today, I have to step back. I don't mind though."- Matthew
It would be a fair statement to say that no one wanted to sit out of a challenge. They all wanted to prove to their team that they were useful, so to sit out would normally be a painful action. However, for the Wild Wolverines, it didn't seem that way. Given that they had to bench a male that wasn't Alexander, Daniel volunteered, as being benched wouldn't stop him from verbally leading his team.
"Remember, put a lot of work into securing her legs," Daniel ordered as he watched the team tape Amalia to the wall, "Most of the weight that must be supported comes from the legs."
"I don't know, I'd say that most of the weight comes from the torso," Alexander claimed.
"Alexander, just listen to him," Laila ordered as she strapped Amalia's right calf to the wall.
"Fine..." Alexander agreed as he stretched out a long piece of tape.
"I'm sick and tired of Daniel leading this team. However, I'm going to let him lead. Just because I'm competing today, doesn't mean that I'm competing to win. As long as I appear to help the team, but not actually do it, we'll lose, I can blame Daniel for the loss and finally get his a** voted out tonight!"- Alexander
"One minute left!" Chris announced, causing everyone to speed up.
"You alright, Amalia?" Daniel asked out of courtesy, "Comfortable?"
"I'm about as comfortable as I can be," Amalia answered, smiling at her crush.
"I'm not saying that I enjoyed being taped down, but it was oddly comfortable. Although to be honest, I would've liked it a LOT more if Daniel was taping me down. And if we were alone...and if we were in my bedroom..." *blushes* "Man, my mom is not gonna be happy when she sees this..." *giggles*- Amalia
All of the campers continued taping until Chris sounded his airhorn to signify the end of the time limit, after which he ordered the non-taped campers to stand behind a white line painted roughly five feet away from the edge of the mat. Once all of them reached their positions, they watched in awe as Chef Hatchet pulled a lever, allowing the wall to be raised into an upright position, perpendicular to the crash mat.
"Alright, the sprayers from each team may grab their sprayer," Chris allowed as he watched the nine sprayers go for their 'weapons', "Remember: you don't have to be the last one on the wall, just don't be the first one to fall! Ready, set, GO!"
Upon hearing the sound of Chris' airhorn a third time, the nine armed campers quickly filled up their sprayers and began spraying the camper of their choice. It became increasingly obvious that there was a definitive line drawn. While the Merciless Moose elected to spray Amalia; the one perceived to be taped less securely, the Wild Wolverines and the Chaotic Cougars teamed up to spray Katelyn.
"What the heck, guys?!" Katelyn explained as she was hit with an onslaught of water.
"Katelyn! Don't shout too much!" Devin ordered as he continued to spray Amalia, "The less energy you use, the less pressure that you'll put on the tape!"
"Ugh..." Katelyn sighed, rolling her eyes in frustration.
"Devin is getting more and more annoying as the days go by. Honestly, at this point, I'm kinda hoping that we lose so I can vote him out."- Katelyn
"How're you holding up, Rhythm?!" Tory asked while continuing to blast Katelyn.
"I'm fine!" Rhythm exclaimed, being almost dry.
"Any problems, Amalia?" Daniel called out from the sidelines.
"I've been better, but it's all good!" Amalia replied before being hit with a blast of water from Kiana.
"Sorry!" Kiana apologized as she ran to go refill her sprayer.
"These kids are really competitive, eh?" Chris noted to Chef Hatchet.
"Question: since when did we care about how the lawyers felt?" Chef Hatchet asked, curious.
"Everyone has lawyers nowadays," Chris explained.
"Don't you think that the show will get less exciting without the dangerous challenges?" Chef Hatchet questioned.
"Maybe, but that's why we signed a contract with the network for three more seasons," Chris reminded, "If this season flops, we'll go back to a more 'exciting' format next season."
"I'm taking a different approach this time; I'm banking on the contestants actually being watchable to reel in the viewers, as opposed to the challenges being super dangerous. Quite frankly, I've gone through way too many lawsuits because of this show; I can't afford to take many more chances."- Chris
Luckily for Chris, the contestants for this season seemed to be a lot more sane compared to those of seasons' past. One could argue that their sanity allowed them to focus more on giving their all to the game, whether it was in strategy or the challenges. Today, they all seemed to move as one unit, moving around each other with swiftness and speed, eager to spray their fellow campers. Of course, they couldn't keep this pace up; after thirty minutes, most of them were exhausted from their efforts. Although, they did manage to loosen the tape surrounding Amalia and Katelyn a little bit.
"C'mon you guys! Get up!" Katelyn shouted after noticing that all three of her teammates were lying down on the ground.
"One sec..." Kiana muttered, half-asleep, "I'm tired..."
"Well I'm tired of hanging up here!" Katelyn noted, "Hurry up!"
"Ugh...I've got it..." Ellie declared as she slowly stood up and continued spraying Amalia.
"Alejandro!" Daniel called out, wanting to get his attention, "You've got to get up, man!"
"Don't worry, I've got this!" Alejandro assured as he refilled his sprayer.
"Y'know what? We need to add a little bit more 'action' to this challenge," Chris remarked as he turned to Chef Hatchet, who nodded in agreement, "You get me...eh?"
"Already on it!" Chef Hatchet assured as he pulled a lever.
The remaining campers were caught off guard by a sudden whirring sound permeating the air. After a few seconds, the campers took notice that the wall began to pulsate back and forth, likely with the intention to try and shake the taped campers off of the wall. Needless to say, it certainly caught everyone's attention.
"Ow!!" Rhythm exclaimed as the back of her head repeatedly hit the back of the wall, "Could ya' turn it down a bit?"
"Whatever," Chris remarked as he shifted the shaking mechanism into a less violent gear.
"Probably should've taped her head down, eh?" Aaron noted to Tory.
"No time..." Tory claimed as he picked up his sprayer, we've got to keep spraying!"
"Honestly, this is way too close for comfort. I mean, Rhythm isn't going anywhere; she hasn't had water sprayed on her the whole time. But Amalia and Katelyn are slowly slipping. At this point, I'm just spraying Katelyn and praying that Amalia stays in place."- Tory
"My team is doing whatever they can to try and get Katelyn free of her tape. If Amalia can just hang on for a little while longer, I think Katelyn is gonna fall."- Veronica
"This isn't good...I've got to find a way to get Amalia to fall before Katelyn! If I can get Amalia to fall, I can convince Alejandro & Laila that Daniel & Amalia need to go, and we'll vote one of them out. But how...?"- Alexander
From his kneeling position on the ground, Alexander took a look around him; practically everyone had their eyes locked on Amalia & Katelyn, watching carefully for any sign of slipping. To his left, Alexander gazed at the metal containers that contained red-coloured water; each team was only allowed to shoot the taped campers with their coloured water. After a brief period of thought, Alexander knew what he needed to do.
"Hey Daniel!" Alexander called out, causing Daniel to walk up to him, "I think my sprayer is jammed."
"Hmm....let's see..." Daniel remarked as he grabbed the sprayer from Alexander.
"Sucker..." Alexander muttered as he shoved Daniel into his team's remaining containers, causing him to tip them all over, thereby spilling the team's remaining water onto the ground.
"Nice going, Daniel!" Alexander exclaimed sarcastically, hoping to get everyone's attention, "Why'd you knock over the water barrels?!"
"Wha...ugh...that's it! I'm done with you!" Daniel declared as he stood up, walked towards Alexander and took off his glasses, "Matthew, hold these."
"Daniel..." Matthew muttered as he watched Daniel continue walking.
"Alexander can't handle the fact that I have more power on this team. If he won't listen to words, I'm sure that he'll listen to actions."- Daniel
Without hesitation, Daniel walked up, grabbed Alexander by the shirt collar, and laid a forceful right hook to his face. This first strike led to a full-out fight between the two men. Calling on his Aikedo skills, Alexander made several attempts to grapple Daniel in an attempt to flip him to the ground. Daniel decided to exercise his experience in boxing and Tang Soo Do martial arts, which he used to execute hard-hitting jabs and kicks. Everyone around them turned to watch the fight, with none of them knowing what to do next.
"Shouldn't we be stopping this?" Chef Hatchet asked as Alexander struck Daniel in the gut.
"Why should we?" Chris replied as he held up a stack of contracts, "We're not liable for injuries that the campers give to each other; we're only liable for injuries that we give to the campers."
Regardless of who would be liable, that didn't stop the fight from continuing. Neither of them had any intentions of giving up. Even when Daniel managed to trip Alexander and bring him down to the ground, that didn't stop Alexander from trying to pin Daniel's arms. It wasn't until Daniel continued to repeatedly punch Alexander that someone intervened.
"Yo man, calm down!" Alejandro ordered as he grabbed Daniel by the abdomen and yanked him off of Alexander, "It's over!"
"You're dead!" Alexander declared at the exact moment that Tory and Aaron grabbed his limbs to prevent him from chasing after Daniel.
"Daniel, deep breath..." Laila suggested, resulting in Daniel taking a deep breath in and subsequently taking a deep breath out.
"Okay...I'll be fine," Daniel assured as Alejandro released his grip on him, "Just keep him away from me."
"And we have a winner!" Chris announced, causing everyone to turn back to the wall.
Unbeknownst to almost all the other campers, while many of them turned to watch the fight, Ellie and Kiana continued to spray Amalia. This uncontested water, in combination with the movement of the wall caused Amalia to come loose from the wall and fall onto the crash mat below. Whether anyone liked it or not, the challenge was over.
"Amalia has fallen, which means that the Chaotic Cougars and the Merciless Moose win immunity!" Chris declared, causing the aforementioned teams to cheer.
"Damn it!" Daniel exclaimed.
"Hey! Let it be known that Daniel's strategy failed us!" Alexander remarked.
"I'm not gonna dignify that with a response," Daniel revealed as he began to walk away.
"HA! He can't admit it!" Alexander pointed out, continuing to accuse Daniel, "He's a coward!"
"Y'know what?!" Amalia exclaimed as she walked toward Alexander whilst peeling tape off of herself, "You don't know a thing about hi-"
"Let's go..." Daniel ordered as he picked Amalia off of the ground, "It's not worth it."
"As for the Wild Wolverines, you'll have to vote someone out tonight. You have the afternoon to figure out who that'll be, so I suggest that you use it wisely," Chris declared before turning to the main camera, "How will this conflict solve itself?"
"COWARD!" Alexander taunted as Daniel & Amalia continued walking away.
"Will this conflict be solved? And who will be voted out?" Chris asked rhetorically, "Find out after the break on Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
