Episode 5: Unique Strengths- Immunity Challenge

"Welcome back!" Chris welcomed, "Before the break, the campers were informed of their strength-oriented challenge. Now that each team has developed a strategy, it's time to begin. Or is it...?"

--------

The cameras proceeded to turn their attention to the three teams, each having selected their members for the challenge. For the Chaotic Cougars, having been handicapped by the new rules, were forced to bench Aaron and Tory, arguably their two strongest members. For the Merciless Moose, they had no choice for who would participate, as they only had four members. For the Wild Wolverines, they had three of the stronger males in the competition, so to have any of them sit out would weaken them. After a group vote, Alexander was benched, although he wasn't too happy about it.

"This is ridiculous..." Alexander complained, frustrated with his team.

"I'm a 2nd degree black belt in aikedo! This challenge was meant for me! All that Alejandro and Daniel have shown is that they can skateboard and flip twenty times. I'd like to see either of them do what I do."- Alexander

"We're a goner..." Aaron admitted, whispering to Tory.

"I wasn't gonna say it out loud, but he's right. Without Aaron and I, Veronica is really the only one who can pull her weight, literally. Zeyad's a stick with a big mouth, Matthew can't use his legs as a fulcrum, and Rhythm...well, I'd say she's more brain than brawn. We're not looking so good."- Tory

"Alright! Before we begin, we have one more twist to add, just to make things interesting!" Chris declared as he walked behind three chests, "In these chests are disadvantages that will make the challenge more difficult to complete. I will need one volunteer from each team to come up and pick a chest."

"This is all me!" Devin declared as he began walking towards Chris, "I play these games all the time back home! I always get lucky!"

"I doubt that..." Katelyn commented to Kiana, after which they both began laughing.

"I'll do it!" Zeyad announced as he ran over to the chests, leaving his team to sigh in disappointment.

"If no one minds, I'll take a crack at it," Daniel offered, to which each of his teammates nodded in approval.

"Alright, because the Wild Wolverines got the highest score in the tiebreaker during the last challenge, Daniel gets to choose his chest first," Chris declared.

The chests were ordinary. They each were 1ft in length, 1ft in width, 1ft in height, and made of spruce wood. Lined up side-by-side, there were no noticeable differences between them, leaving any choice to be made blindly. Not even Daniel could make a choice with 100% accuracy.

"I'll choose the chest on the far right," Daniel declared, allowing Chris to open it and pull out a card with a message on it.

"Congratulations! Your team must now have to pull an extra buoy weighing 100 pounds!" Chris announced enthusiastically.

"Eh, could be worse," Daniel remarked as he walked back to his team.

"Since the Chaotic Cougars placed second in the tiebreaker, Zeyad gets to pick next," Chris declared.

"I'll stick with the one on the left," Zeyad requested, "Y'know, because it's the first one, and we're gonna finish first in this challenge-"

"Don't care," Chris interrupted as he read the card from the chest, "Congratulations! Your team must pull all of your buoys past the finish line whilst blindfolded!"

"Good. That way we don't have to watch him complain the whole time," Rhythm remarked to Veronica.

"I guess I'll pick the middle one," Devin agreed as Chris opened the chest and pulled out the card.

"Congratul....whatever," Chris began, annoyed at the cheery beginnings, "Your team must get your buoys over the finish line without gloves."

Originally, each competing camper was required to wear protective gloves to help prevent rope burn and increase the grip of the campers' hands on the ropes. Without them, it would be a lot more difficult and much more painful to pull the buoys to shore. While it was arguable as to which disadvantage was the most hurtful, that one seemed to be the most unlikable.

"Alright! Get into position, campers!" Chris ordered as the campers grabbed ahold of their respective ropes, "Ready! Set! GOOOOOOOO!"

At the sound of Chris' airhorn, everyone began pulling their respective buoys toward the shore. It became increasingly obvious as the challenge went on that each team had a different strategy. Out of all the teams, the Wild Wolverines definitely had the most aggressive strategy. In an attempt to reduce the time needed to pull in all the buoys, they had some people pull two buoys.

"C'mon! Pull!" Alejandro called out in a feat of strength.

"That's what we're trying to do!" Amalia reminded as she attempted to pull in the 300 pound buoy.

"We assigned the buoys based upon each others' perceived strength. Alejandro is the strongest by far, so we had him pull the 200 and 250 pound buoys. Daniel took it upon himself to pull the 100 and 150 pound buoys, while Laila and I tackled the 300 pound buoy. Hopefully we can pull this off."- Amalia

It was no surprise that any team with a distinct advantage, as the Wild Wolverines had, would use it to the fullest capacity that they could. On the flip side, any team with a distinct disadvantage would have to do all they could to minimize the impact of it. For the Chaotic Cougars, it was Matthew's wheelchair that setback his team the most.

"Zeyad!" Matthew called out as he attempted to pull in the 250 pound buoy, "You've got to pull it harder!"

"I could tell you the same thing!" Zeyad retorted as he continued pulling Matthew's wheelchair backwards.

"This might be the worst possible challenge for me. Everyone else is able to move backwards and pull the rope simultaneously; I can't. So I have to have Zeyad pull me backwards so I can reel in the buoy without moving closer to the water."- Matthew

"This is not a good challenge for me to prove myself. On the bright side, if we lose, my team will be more focused on Matthew's terrible performance than my....sub-par performance."- Zeyad

While no one admitted it out loud, they all wanted to prove themselves; not just to their fellow campers, but to themselves. They all came to the island with the desire to win a million dollars, and they all wanted to assure themselves that they had what it took to survive. For all members of the Merciless Moose, they wanted to prove to the others that they weren't going to be picked off one by one.

"One, two, three, PULL! One, two, three, PULL!" Katelyn repeated as all four of the Merciless Moose pulled the 300 pound buoy in unison.

"None of us are actually 'strong', so we figured that if we all pulled one buoy together, we'd move faster than all the other teams, and thus, we'd finish faster. At least, that's what we believe."- Katelyn

To everyone's surprise, with the combined force of all of their members, the Merciless Moose were the first team to get a buoy to shore. After a few more grunts and exertions of force, the quartet managed to get their 300 pound buoy past the finish line.

"And the Merciless Moose take the lead!" Chris announced from his high pedestal.

"C'mon! Almost there!" Laila exclaimed as her and Amalia pulled the 300 pound buoy onto shore, "Yes!"

"Let's get it!" Amalia ordered, allowing both of them to run over and begin carrying the buoy to the finish line.

"And the Wild Wolverines are right behind them!" Chris announced, causing every other camper to move faster, "The Chaotic Cougars might wanna move faster."

"I'd like to see you try and do this!" Veronica taunted as she struggled to pull the 300 pound buoy to shore.

"This was actually a challenge that Aaron couldn't screw up. Now that Zeyad is forced to play, I am the one responsible for bringing in the heaviest buoy. Seriously, if we lose this challenge, I'm gonna take his can of hairspray and-" *video feed cuts out*- Veronica

"Time for a quick update!" Chris declared, "The Merciless Moose are almost done with their 250 pound buoy! The Chaotic Cougars are close to bringing in their 300 and 200 pound buoys! And the Wild Wolverines are generally close with all of their buoys!"

"My team would be even farther if I was playing," Alexander remarked to Tory.

"Well, nothing we can do but wait," Tory rationalized.

"I mean, how could they not see it?" Alexander asked, amazed, "I'm so much stronger than Daniel!"

"I don't know about that, man," Tory admitted whilst unconsciously scratching his head, "I mean, Daniel's kinda been the go-to guy for athletic challenges."

"Athletic? Yes. Strength? No," Alexander noted, upset, "He couldn't lift a rock without quivering."

"He seems to be doing fine," Tory commented as he pointed at Daniel carrying the 100 pound buoy past the finish line.

"And the Wild Wolverines take the lead!" Chris announced.

"C'mon guys!" Veronica called out as she struggled to carry the 300 pound buoy to the finish line, "Get going!"

"Let's go!" Katelyn ordered as the Merciless Moose pulled the 250 pound buoy past the finish line, "Yeah!"

"I wasn't talking to you guys!" Veronica specified as collapsed onto the ground after reaching the finish line.

"Hey, can ya' give me a hand here?" Rhythm shouted, having pulled the 200 pound buoy to shore.

"I have an idea!" Matthew declared as he let go of his rope, "Rhythm! Keep shouting and I'll come towards you!"

"Uh....." Rhythm thought before exclaiming, "AYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA!"

"What the hell?" Veronica muttered to herself as she felt around for the rope to the 150 pound buoy.

"Looks like Rhythm is trying to attract a mate!" Chris joked.

"Shut up!" Rhythm shouted as Matthew rolled over to her.

"Okay, we're gonna grab the buoy and put it onto my lap," Matthew explained, "Then you can just push me to the finish line!"

"This is the perfect way to help out. Hopefully this will make carrying the buoy a little easier."- Matthew

"Hggggh!" Rhythm grunted as she dropped the buoy on Matthew's lap.

"AHHHHHHH!" Matthew exclaimed in pain, "The kiwis...."

"Let's go!" Rhythm ordered as she began pushing Matthew towards the finish line.

"And...Rhythm and Matthew get the second buoy for the Chaotic Cougars!" Chris announced, "It's not over yet, folks!

"No...it...ain't!" Laila exclaimed as she carried her 150 pound buoy past the finish line.

"Everyone's got two buoys left!" Chris announced, "It's gonna be close, folks!"

Upon hearing this, each team turned their work effort up another notch. With the teams so close to completing the challenge, they all felt the need to push even harder  in order to not get last place. With that, the teams began to show a lot of cohesion, as if they were robots programmed to work together.

"Laila!" Alejandro called out as he and Daniel attempted to lift the 250 pound buoy, "Help us out!"

"Coming!" Laila replied as she ran over and grabbed ahold of the buoy and helped bring it past the finish line.

"A few more feet!" Katelyn exclaimed as the Merciless Moose pulled the 200 pound buoy over the line, "One more! Let's go!"

"We are not gonna get beat today!" Veronica declared as she ran and pulled the 150 pound buoy all the way to shore, "Rhythm! Get over here!"

"I'm kinda busy right now!" Rhythm claimed as she pulled the 250 pound buoy onto shore with Matthew and Zeyad, "C'mon boys, lift!"

"I'm gonna break a nail if I do this!" Zeyad claimed.

"And I'll break them on your head if you don't lift!" Rhythm screamed, fed up with Zeyad.

"Sheesh, that was a bit much."- Zeyad

"One, two, three, lift!" Daniel counted as him, Alejandro, Laila, and Amalia picked up the 200 pound buoy and slowly walked towards the finish line, "15ft...10ft...5ft...YES!"

"And the Wild Wolverines have won immunity!" Chris announced as he sounded his airhorn, "But there's still one more spot left! Who will win? The Chaotic Cougars? Or the Merciless Moose?"

"We will..." Zeyad muttered as him, Matthew, and Rhythm lifted the 250 pound buoy, only to drop it on his right hand, "AGGHHHHH! My hand!"

"Boo-hoo!" Rhythm mocked, "Quit being a baby!"

"HYAAHH!" Veronica screamed as she picked up the 150 pound buoy and chucked it over the finish line, "There!"

"And both teams are down to one buoy! It's gonna be close..." Chris commented.

"Run!" Katelyn called out as the Merciless Moose ran towards the finish line.

"Get it off!" Zeyad cried out whilst attempting to rip his hand out from under the buoy.

"I've got this!" Devin declared as he ran to pick up the buoy, only to find that it was too heavy.

"C'mon! We've got to do this together!" Katelyn called out as her, Ellie, and Kiana ran over to help Devin.

"Move!" Veronica ordered as she grabbed the 250 pound buoy and lifted it up by herself, "Now, to the finish line!"

"LIFT!" Katelyn screamed as her quartet lifted the buoy, "And run!"

At that moment, everyone not in the challenge turned to the remaining competitors. They watched carefully as Veronica slowly walked towards the finish line; being guided by Tory and Aaron to ensure that she wasn't walking aimlessly. It all seemed over until Katelyn, Kiana, Ellie, and Devin came running past with their final buoy. Going at full speed, the quartet ran past the finish line and crashed into the nearby bushes.

"Game over!" Chris announced as he sounded his airhorn again, "The Merciless Moose have won immunity!"

"Damn it!" Zeyad exclaimed as he removed his blindfold.

"Ugh...screw this!" Veronica declared as she blindly tossed her buoy, inadvertently hitting Zeyad in the crotch.

"Eh....that's gonna leave a mark..." Matthew remarked, having taken off his blindfold as well.

"Nice shot," Rhythm remarked as she took off Veronica's blindfold and high-fived her.

*high-pitched wincing sounds*- Zeyad

"Congrats to the Wild Wolverines and the Merciless Moose. As for the Chaotic Cougars, you're gonna have to vote someone off this time," Chris reported before turning to the main camera, "That was an interesting challenge. How will the new team deal with having to vote someone out? Find out after the break on Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
