Episode 15: The Hopeful & The Heartbroken- Immunity Challenge

"Welcome back to Total Drama Island: Return to Wawanakwa!" Chris welcomed as the main camera panned on him, "Before the break, the seven campers were informed of their next challenge: a multi-round throwback to challenges of this season. Let's see how it plays out!"

--------

With the completion of Chris' greeting, the cameras turned to face the seven campers at their podiums. Unsurprisingly, all of them were ready to try their hardest to win. For Daniel & Amalia, they felt the need to win because they were looked at as big threats. For Rhythm & Matthew, they felt the need to win so their plan to split up the biggest threats could go through. For Katelyn & Kiana, their desires were a mix of the goals of the other two duos. And for Devin, he was ready to play, but due to his exhaustion from Boney Island, he didn't feel that he had much of a chance.

"Alright, it's time for round 1: Coconut Conundrum," Chris declared as he pointed to a pulley-like system with a net on one end and a weight on the other end, "In a throwback to episode seven, you will have to throw fifteen coconuts into the net in order to raise the weight off the ground. How long do you think it will take for you to complete the challenge?"

"I think I can handle this one. I'm gonna go for it."- Amalia

"I'm not super confident in this one, so I'm just gonna try and put a time a little more than what I think the fastest time will be."- Daniel

"I don't want to compete right away, so I'm gonna try and write down a time in the middle."- Rhythm

"Badminton is my sport; not basketball. I'm writing down a high number on this one."- Matthew

"Daniel's probably gonna pick a time that's like, one coconut per ten seconds, so. I've just got to put a time a bit above that..."- Katelyn

"I'm just gonna write down a time that I feel comfortable writing."- Kiana

"Whatever...gets me.... out of the...challenge...." *falls asleep*- Devin

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"Two minutes," Amalia announced.

"Two minutes and one second," Daniel stated, putting emphasis on the 'one second'.

"Two minutes and thirty-one seconds," Rhythm declared.

"Four minutes," Matthew revealed, embarrassed.

"Two minutes and thirty-five seconds," Katelyn declared proudly.

"Three minutes," Kiana revealed as she held up her board.

"Devin?" Chris called out, noticing that Devin was hunched over on his podium, fast asleep, "Devin?"

"I've got it," Kiana declared as she picked up Devin's chalkboard to read, "Hmm, looks like he wrote 'one million seconds'.

"Alrighty then," Chris commented, chuckling a little bit, "Amalia, you must complete the challenge in two minutes in order to stay in the challenge. If you succeed, Devin will be eliminated from the challenge."

"I've got to start off strong and set the pace for the challenge. If I can get past this one, I should be able to handle whatever comes my way."- Amalia

"Alright, ready...set...GOOOOO!" Chris declared as he sounded his airhorn.

With Chris' signal, Amalia began shooting coconuts into the net. Now, she wasn't a big fan of basketball, but this didn't stop her from continuously sinking her shots as she made them. Compared to the other campers, she was pretty athletic, leaving many wondering if she would have the be the next one to go if she didn't win immunity. Needless to say, there was one person who didn't want to see her fail.

"You can do it, Amalia!" Daniel encouraged as he watched his girlfriend compete, "Just focus!"

"I'd like to think that being a good boyfriend involves being supportive of my girlfriend's endeavours. Hopefully it's not distracting."- Daniel

"Only a few more left!" Daniel called out, having counted all of the succeeded shots, "Thirty seconds left!"

"Three...two..." Amalia counted as she continued to sink the coconuts, "One...nope. C'mon...one...yes!"

"That's it! Amalia has completed the challenge, meaning that Devin is eliminated," Chris declared as the remaining campers (sans Devin) clapped for Amalia, "Can someone carry Devin over to the bench?"

"C'mon, buddy," Kiana ordered as she picked up Devin and carefully laid him down on the losers' bench.

"Eh..." Devin muttered as he rolled over and fell off the bench.

"*snoring*"- Devin

"Not gonna lie, that was just the amount of effort I expected Devin to give in this challenge. I would've liked it if he tried harder, but I can't afford to pick and choose allies."- Katelyn

"Time to start round two: Badminton Battle!" Chris declared as he pointed to the station with a serving mound and a small net roughly fifteen feet away, "Back in episode thirteen, you all competed in a badminton competition, where you all came out with prizes."

"Except me..." Katelyn remarked as she tugged at her Baywatch swimsuit, "How much longer do I have to wear this?"

"Your punishment ends after the final five immunity challenge," Chris answered before continuing, "For this challenge, you must hit one birdie into the net from the pitching mound. Keep in mind, the net is only one foot in diameter and is fifteen feet away from the mound. How long do you think it'll take you to complete the challenge?"

"This is the challenge for me. I'm gonna put a low time and hope that I get it."- Matthew

"After the last challenge, I'm feeling pretty confident. I'm gonna see if I can get this one too."- Amalia

"Matthew was pretty good at this challenge last time, so he might put something like one minute. All I need is a time higher than that."- Katelyn

"I wasn't too good at this challenge last time, so I'm gonna put a higher number."- Rhythm

"This is an instance where it's either 'you get it on the first try, or you lose completely'. I'm just gonna try and put something in the middle."- Daniel

"I really don't want to compete in this one, but I don't want to write a time that is too big. Hopefully my time works."- Kiana

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"One minute," Matthew announced confidently.

"Fifty-five seconds," Amalia announced as she showed off her chalkboard.

"One minute & one second," Katelyn revealed, content.

"Two minutes," Rhythm announced, now concerned.

"One minute & fourteen seconds," Daniel declared.

"One minute and fifty-nine seconds," Kiana announced, elated that she was safe.

"Amalia, that means you'll have to complete the challenge in fifty-five seconds or less in order to have a shot at immunity, "Chris declared, "Rhythm, because you wrote down the longest time, you will be eliminated if Amalia completes the challenge fast enough."

"I'm not scared of this one; I mean, it's only one birdie. How difficult could it be?"- Amalia

Amalia found out how difficult it was once the timer started. Unsurprisingly, he first shot ended up too far left. Her second shot was too far right. And her third shot was too far forward. After the first thirty seconds, she had managed to miss five shots. Being under a time crunch didn't help.

"Just focus on your direction!" Daniel called out, "Keep your force the same!"

"This is why I didn't want to compete in this challenge: it's frustrating and too unpredictable. I've just got to hope and pray that Amalia can pull out a miracle."- Daniel

As the time winded down, all eyes were on Amalia as she continued to fire shots at the net. Fifteen seconds left: nothing. Ten seconds left: nothing. With five seconds left, she paused, then fired one final shot. Everyone was silent as the birdie flew in an arc. Within seconds, the birdie bounced off the edge of the net....and into the net.

"Wow! With one second left, Amalia nails the shot and completes the challenge!" Chris announced, "That means Rhythm is out!"

"Whew!" Amalia exclaimed as she wiped the sweat from her forehead before rejoining the remaining campers.

"Yeah...maybe I should back off from the challenges for a bit..."- Amalia

"First Devin goes out, then I'm out. Of course, we're not very good physical competitors, but it still sucks knowing that we couldn't get the job done."- Rhythm

"Time to start round three: Getting Your Shots!" Chris declared as he pointed to the station with a counter and ten shot glasses on it, "Back in episode nine, you all had to down shots and put on a pokerface in order to win. For today's edition, how long do you think it'll take you to drink all ten foul shots without throwing up?"

"I didn't get a foul shot last time, so I don't know how bad it is. I'm gonna write down a safe time and hope that I don't get it."- Matthew

"The last thing that I want to do is throw up on national television. So I'm gonna write down the highest time I can think of without looking ridiculous, just to avoid doing this one."- Kiana

"I need to back off a bit, so I'm gonna write down a time that is high enough to not get picked, but if I do get picked, I'll still be able to do it."- Amalia

"I don't think that Daniel will have much of a problem with this, so he'll probably put a low time like thirty seconds. All I need is a few seconds higher than him."- Katelyn

"I think that this is something that I can do. I'm gonna put a low time, but I'm gonna be reasonable and not put something impossibly low."- Daniel

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"One minute and fifty-nine seconds," Matthew announced.

"Five minutes," Kiana remarked, a bit worried.

"One minute and fifteen seconds," Amalia revealed.

"Thirty-three seconds," Katelyn declared, confident.

"Forty-four seconds," Daniel revealed as he showed off his chalkboard.

"Katelyn, that means that you have to drink all ten shots in thirty-three seconds or less in order to remain in the challenge," Chris declared, "If you succeed, Kiana will be eliminated."

"Whatever..." Katelyn muttered as she tossed her chalkboard across the sand.

"I hoping that Katelyn busts here. I'm not doubting her abilities or anything like that, but I think that Katelyn has slightly better odds at winning this kind of challenge than Kiana is. Even though Kiana is the better physical competitor, she's less likely to put out a higher time, which gives people like Amalia & I the chance to move in and win the challenges."- Daniel

"I have no clue why Katelyn thinks that thirty-three seconds is enough time. This might be a bit rude to say, but I'm starting to think that I might be the brains of the duo."- Kiana

Kiana wasn't wrong; once Chris started the timer, it was clear that Katelyn was stuck in a hole too deep to get out of. She started with the Dirty Daniel, but the heat of the peppers caused her to spit it back out into the glass within two seconds. She then attempted to cool down her mouth with a Kiana Kick, but only succeeded in burning the back of her throat with the vinegar-laden drink. In desperation, Katelyn attempted to drink the Veroni-ca Cola quickly, but she could only deal with the putrid taste for a few seconds before spitting it back out again. Before long, it was all over.

"And...Katelyn's run out of time!" Chris declared, "Sorry Katelyn, but you're out!"

"Screw this..." Katelyn muttered as she chucked a shot glass into the water.

"This game....this sucks. Like, I'm just humiliating myself out here. I'll be the laughing stock of Ottawa by the end of this. Even if I win, will people even be happy for me?" *begins crying*- Katelyn

"You alright?" Rhythm asked as Katelyn took a seat next to her.

"Just...leave me alone, please..." Katelyn requested as she hung her head low.

"This is the first time that I've seen Katelyn look so defeated. I mean, she just seemed so helpless out there, and I swear that I saw tears in her eyes as she walked over to me. Sure, her and I haven't been the best of friends, but I can't help but feel sorry for her."- Rhythm

"I see Katelyn in the distance, and I can just tell that she's disappointed. Now it's up to me to win immunity so that we can guarantee that one of us stays in the game."- Kiana

"Time to start round four: Flying High," Chris declared as he pointed to the station with a pulley system with a harness on one end, as well as a puzzle board hoisted higher in the air, "Back in episode twelve, one person had to be hoisted in the air to solve a slider puzzle. How long do you think it will take you to pull yourself into the air and solve the slider puzzle?"

"I don't have terrible upper-body strength, but I'm not keen on doing this kind of challenge. I'm gonna write a higher time."- Matthew

"With Katelyn out, I need to step up my game and become more aggressive. I'm gonna try for it."- Kiana

"This is the challenge for me. I'm gonna write a lower time and hope that I get picked."- Daniel

"My biggest concern is that I won't be able to solve the puzzle. This is probably a time where I just have to try and write down one of the middle times."- Amalia

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"Three minutes," Matthew revealed.

"One minute and fourteen seconds," Kiana announced with confidence.

"One minute and twenty-nine seconds..." Daniel declared, surprised that his time wasn't the lowest.

"One minute and fifty-nine seconds," Amalia revealed.

"Kiana, that means that you'll have to complete the task in one minute & fourteen seconds or less in order to stay in the challenge," Chris declared, "If you succeed, Matthew will be eliminated."

"I'm honestly a bit worried. I like her confidence and all; it's a good change, but I don't know if she has it in her to complete the challenge."- Katelyn

"I'm kinda glad that Kiana wrote down the lowest time; out of the other three still in the challenge with me, Kiana probably has the worst odds of completing the challenge."- Matthew

"I'm more surprised than I am confused. I think that Kiana does have the potential to succeed at this kind of challenge, but I didn't think that she'd go for it. But I'm not gonna doubt her."- Daniel

"Ready, set, GOOOO!" Chris exclaimed.

With that, Kiana began pulling on the rope, successfully pulling herself upwards. As soon as she became level with the puzzleboard, she wrapped the rope around her left hand and began solving the puzzle with her right hand. Keeping her focus on the puzzle, she was unable to see the looks of amazement on the other campers' faces as she continued to hang fifteen feet in the air.

"Wow, she's strong," Matthew remarked, shocked.

"C'mon girl, you can do it..." Katelyn muttered.

"If she wins, I'm gonna take her out next," Daniel whispered to Amalia.

As far as the other campers were concerned, Kiana was on her way to completing the challenge. With twenty seconds left, she seemed poised to finish as she reached to move the last piece into place. But before she could, her left arm appeared to give out, forcing her to grab onto the rope with her right hand to save herself from falling.

"Hggggh..." Kiana grunted as she attempted to raise her left arm, but was eventually stopped by the pain it was causing her, "Ow!"

"What's going on?!" Katelyn asked, concerned.

"Probably overworked that arm," Amalia answered, "She can't raise it high enough."

"From experience, I know that doing sequential pull-ups without stretching can really wear out your biceps and triceps. Considering that she didn't stretch, is only hanging by one arm, and probably hasn't done pull-ups for a while, her arm will probably take a few minutes to recover."- Amalia

"No...no...no!" Katelyn remarked as she looked at the timer with nine seconds left, "She can't do it!"

"Yes...I...CAN!" Kiana screamed as she grabbed ahold of the rope with her mouth, allowing her enough leverage to swing over and use her right arm to slide the last piece into place.

"And with two seconds left, Kiana completes the challenge!" Chris declared, causing everyone to clap for her.

"Yeah!" Kiana exclaimed as she slid down to the ground.

"I wanted to drop soooo bad, but I put my foot down and told myself that I needed to win. It felt so liberating, and kinda empowering."- Kiana

"Okay...maybe I underestimated her a little bit."- Matthew

"Wow. Kiana went out there and proved to everyone that she's not a timid girl; she a fierce amazonian woman! This is the kind of person that I've been waiting for her to become."- Katelyn

"Time to start round five: Pulling Your Weight," Chris declared as he pointed to the buoy out in the water with a rope extending to the shoreline, "Back in episode five, your team had to pull buoys back to shore. How long do you think it will take you to pull a 200 pound buoy to shore and past the finish line?"

"I've got this," Daniel declared to Amalia, "Put down two minutes."

"Don't worry, I can handle it," Amalia insisted.

"I really think that I should do it," Daniel assured.

"Do you think that I can't do it?" Amalia asked in an accusatory tone.

"It's not that I don't have faith in you," Daniel claimed, "I just want to ensure that you don't get eliminated yet."

"Whatever," Amalia brushed off as the began writing, "You can write 1:59 if you want; I'm writing 1:30."

"It's kinda frustrating that Daniel wants to stop me from competing in this challenge. Sure, he's trying to 'protect' me and all, but I'm perfectly capable of doing this one!"- Amalia

"My arm kinda hurts, so I'm just gonna try and put a middle-ish time."- Kiana

"I cannot afford to have Amalia be eliminated from the challenge. I still have Kiana, Katelyn, and Devin with me, so I don't need the protection as much as she does. It's time for me to make a big move and win this task."- Daniel

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"One minute and twenty-five seconds," Amalia revealed.

"Two minutes and one second," Kiana announced.

"Fifty-nine seconds," Daniel declared, shocking everyone.

"Daniel, that means that you'll have to complete the task in fifty-nine seconds or less in order to stay in the challenge," Chris declared, "If you succeed, Kiana will be eliminated."

"How is he supposed to do that in fifty-nine seconds? I mean, seriously? I thought he was smart enough to not do something stupid like that."- Amalia

"Hopefully Daniel shot himself in the foot by writing a time that low."- Kiana

"I'm not doubting Daniel or anything, but I don't know if he's strong enough to finish the challenge in time."- Matthew

Daniel couldn't argue that opinion, but that sure didn't stop him from trying to prove everyone wrong. Once Chris started the timer, Daniel wasted no time in pulling the buoy towards shore. The buoy was roughly fifteen meters from shore, and the finish line was about ten meters from the shoreline, but Daniel was able to pull the buoy at a moderately fast rate.

"He's dedicated, eh?" Kiana noted to Amalia.

"Yeah," Amalia agreed, "Still stupid though."

"And...the buoy is at the shore now," Kiana noted, "And...I might be dead..."

"Freerunning may be a sport about speed and tricks, but strength does play a big role as well. For this challenge, I had to channel everything left in me to succeed. There was no other option."- Daniel

With the other campers counting down, Daniel used his remaining strength to pull the buoy towards the finish line. The campers constantly switched their gazes between the timer and Daniel, concluding that this challenge would be a close one. As Daniel got within five feet of the finish line, the group began counting down.

"Five! Four! Three! Two! One!" the campers counted.

"AHHHHHH!" Daniel screamed as he lunged forward and pulled the buoy across the finish line.

"Wow...by one second, Daniel has failed the fifth challenge, so he's out!" Chris declared.

"Damnit!" Daniel exclaimed as he ran his fingers through his hair in anger.

"Have a seat, man," Matthew allowed as Daniel took a seat next to him.

"I can't believe that I blew it! Now it's all up to Amalia to win this challenge. I know that she has it in her to pull it off."- Daniel

"This is perfect. Honestly, with her last showing in the challenge, I wouldn't put it past Kiana to go out and win. Hopefully she can do it."- Katelyn

"Time to start the final round: Tea For One," Chris declared as he pointed to the fifteen foot-long moistened path with a large teacup at one end and a container at the other end, "Back in episode eleven, you spent hours walking back and forth to fill up your containers. How long do you think it will take you to fill your container with tea and pull out the ball inside? And to speed things up, the container will only take five trips with your cup to fill it completely.

"This is the one immunity challenge that I almost won on my own. There's no other time to win a challenge than right now."- Kiana

"Now that Daniel's out, it's up to me to win. I don't want to have my fate in Kiana's hands, so I'm gonna have to put down a time fast enough to beat Kiana for the chance to compete, but long enough that I can still do the challenge."- Amalia

"Let's see what you've all written down," Chris declared.

"Fifty-nine seconds," Kiana revealed, proud of her answer.

"Fifty-five seconds," Amalia announced with a mischievous smile on her face.

"Amalia, that means that you'll have to complete the task in fifty-five seconds or less in order to win immunity," Chris declared, "If you fail, Kiana will win immunity."

"I'm just praying to every god there is in hopes of Amalia completely botching this challenge. If she loses, the plan to split the votes between Amalia & Daniel is still alive and we can finally get one of them out."- Rhythm

"I would be lying if I said that I wasn't worried. I mean, Amalia did win a prize in this challenge last time, but I don't know if fifty-five seconds is enough time."- Daniel

"Go!" Chris called out.

Wanting to start fast, Amalia filled her cup and attempted to run across the lane, but ended up falling to the ground. After reminding herself that she didn't have much time to spare, she got up, refilled her cup, and slowly shuffled her way down the lane. Eventually, she honed a technique, allowing her to make her way up and down the lane smoothly. Everyone watched as she poured her second cup, then her third cup, then her fourth cup.

"C'mon...fall..." Katelyn muttered to herself.

"It has to happen, shouldn't it?" Rhythm asked rhetorically.

"She's running low on time; if she falls just one more time, it's over."- Rhythm

"That's it!" Daniel called out as Amalia poured her last cup of tea, "Now get the ball! You can do it!"

"There's less than ten seconds left, and all she has to do is get the ball. C'mon Amalia!"- Daniel

"Where is it?!" Amalia exclaimed as she reached her index finger and thumb into the hole on the top.

"Five! Four! Three!" the other campers counted.

Feeling panicked, Amalia looked down to see the blue ball floating directly under the hole in the lid. After muttering to herself, 'F**k this', she leaned her head over the hole and breathed inwards, allowing the ball to be sucked into her mouth.

"Time is up!" Chris declared as Amalia began showing signs of choking, "Uh oh...someone help her!"

"I've got this!" Daniel assured as he ran behind Amalia, wrapped his arms around her and began performing the Heimlich maneuver.

"This is gonna be bad for lawsuits..." Chris muttered to himself, worried.

"C'mon!" Daniel exclaimed as he repeatedly compressed Amalia's abdomen with his clasped hands, eventually allowing the ball to pop out of Amalia's throat and onto the sand and causing both of them to fall to the ground, "Are you alright?"

"Thanks..." Amalia thanked as she flipped over and kissed Daniel.

"Okay, before you guys get too 'handsy', this is for you," Chris declared as he handed Amalia the Golden Marshmallow necklace, "Amalia has won individual immunity!"

"Yes! After all that went down during the challenge, it's great to know that I can't be voted out tonight. However, I still need to talk to Daniel about what happened today. I need to know where him and I stand as far as how we're going to get the two of us to the end."- Amalia

"And...Amalia wins. But this isn't the end of the world; I always have a plan B. And today, that plan B involves taking out a much bigger threat named Daniel Trieu."- Rhythm

"As for the remaining six of you, you're gonna have to go into tonight's elimination ceremony feeling vulnerable," Chris remarked before turning to face the main camera, "What plans will the campers come up with this time? And who will take their inevitable walk down the Dock of Shame? Find out after the break on this episode of Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
