Episode 11: Not My Cup of Tea- Immunity Challenge
With the completion of the commercial break, the cameras panned in on the campers, each standing by their respective pots of tea, ready to begin. This would be the first time that they were competing in a challenge as individuals, so the pressure was on to see if they would be able to win immunity by relying on their own strength as opposed to anyone else's.
"Alright!" Chris called out as he pulled out his airhorn, "Ready! Set! GOOOO!!!!"
With that each camper scooped up a cup of tea and attempted to run down their lane, only to fall in one way or another. Even though they all saw that the lanes were coated with tea, none of them anticipated that the lanes would be so slippery. Thus, after taking a few seconds to recompose themselves, they all went back to refill their cups.
"Man...that actually hurts a lot," Aaron admitted.
"I've taken much harder hits when playing hockey, but that still hurt. Maybe it's because I'm not wearing my armor."- Aaron
"No duhhhhhh!" Daniel agreed before slipping and falling on the ground once again.
"Hahaaaaaaaaa!" Katelyn laughed before faceplanting on the ground.
"This way, the campers don't actually have to act funny in order to raise the ratings; they'll be naturally funny when they keep falling on their faces." *laughs*- Chris
"C'mon...c'mon..." Amalia repeated as she made her way across the lane.
"I'm fairly confident in my balancing abilities, so I'm not too concerned."- Amalia
"Slowly now," Kiana reminded herself as she carefully walked across the lane.
"I'm guessing that everyone is gonna go with the 'faster running = faster filling' strategy. For me, I'd rather go with the 'slow & steady' strategy. I'll be the tortoise in this race."- Kiana
"This cup barely carries any water!" Tory noted, frustrated.
"We're gonna be here for a while," Daniel remarked as he struggled to reach the containers.
"The biggest container is at least five gallons, maybe six. And our cup is about....maybe half a cup in unit measurement. And we also have to take into account that we don't completely fill the cups when we make a trip. Then there's the factor of spilling water as we walk to the containers. I estimate that it'll take at least 300 trips to fill the biggest container."- Daniel
"Don't you think that this'll be a bit boring for the viewers at home?" Rhythm asked.
"Don't worry," Chris assured as he laid back on a beach chair, "We'll just put it into a dramatic timelapse."
--------
Thirty minutes have passed since the beginning of the challenge, and everyone began to feel exhausted, save for Chris and Chef Hatchet, of course. At this point in the challenge, everyone committed themselves to one prize, picked carefully in accordance with what they felt that they needed.
"Let's take a look at where everyone is at!" Chris announced as he stood up, "It looks like Aaron and Daniel are going for the ten thousand dollars!"
"That's riiiiiii-!!!!" Daniel began before slipping and falling onto his back.
"Ouch..." Chris winced, "That's gotta hurt."
"It doesn't matter which prize I'm going for; I'm not trying to win. Winning will put a target on my back. I went with the ten thousand dollars so people will think that I'm not a threat to win immunity. Hopefully I can sell it."- Daniel
"Woah!" Daniel exclaimed as he fell to the ground.
"And it doesn't look like Aaron has much competition," Chris commented.
"Keep going, Daniel!" Aaron encouraged, "Don't give up!"
"I lost out on the money during the last challenge, so I'm due. I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more people going for the cash. After all, we're here to win money."- Aaron
"As for the special power, it looks like Veronica, Ellie, & Amalia are trying to win it," Chris remarked, "It looks like Amalia has a small lead over Veronica, while Ellie is far behind."
"It's harder than it looks!" Ellie claimed as she stumbled across the lane.
"Katelyn, Kiana, and I agreed to split up for the challenge: I went for the 'special power' so we can possibly flip the game to benefit us. Katelyn and Kiana went for immunity so at least one of us could be safe. Hopefully this works."- Ellie
"How're you doing, Amalia?" Veronica asked as she poured a cup of tea into her container.
"Just fine, thanks," Amalia replied as she ran back to her teapot.
"I don't think that I'm in serious danger of being voted out; as far as I know, Katelyn or Aaron is the one going tonight. And I already have ten grand, so I might as well try and get a special power."- Amalia
"I would've gone for the immunity, but I feel like with Ellie's deal in my back pocket, I can let one immunity challenge go. I'll stick with the special power."- Veronica
"And that means that Katelyn, Kiana, Matthew, Devin, Tory, and Rhythm are going for individual immunity," Chris announced, "Looks like Tory is in the lead, followed by Matthew, then Kiana, then Katelyn, and I guess Rhythm & Devin are about equal."
"Keep on pushing, keep on pushing," Tory repeated as he slowly made his way down his lane.
"I may be a wild guy, but I can be pretty stable. Once I get into a stable rhythm, I feel like I can pull ahead pretty quickly."- Tory
"Gotta go fast," Katelyn muttered to herself as she began running, "Gotta go fast."
"I'm falling behind, so I've got to pick up the pace. I honestly thought that this challenge would be good for a shorter person like me, because my centre of gravity is closer to the ground. Guess not."- Katelyn
"Just like baking with mama..." Kiana repeated, "Baking with mama..."
"In this kind of challenge, I know that I need to just stay calm and keep on going. That way, I won't psych myself out too much. I think it's working."- Kiana
"Slide....and crash!" Matthew exclaimed as he slammed into the teapot, "Perfect."
"This might be the only challenge where being in a wheelchair gives me a distinct advantage. I don't really have to worry about falling over, and I can pretty much roll my way down the lanes. This might be my challenge to win."- Matthew
"And...going down!" Devin shouted as he slipped and fell.
"I'm getting pretty tired. I can't say that I have experience walking on tea-covered floors, so....yeah."- Devin
"Tiptoe...from the garden..." Rhythm sang as she scrawled across the lane, "By the garden...of the willow tree..."
"My motto: when in doubt, sing. If I can just take my mind away from the challenge, I should be able to keep up."- Rhythm
"Tiptoe...through the tuliiiiiii-!!" Rhythm began before slipping and falling on her stomach, "Ow..."
"Haha!" Chris laughed as he took a sip of Chef's tea, "Free entertainment, eh?"
"Got that right," Chef Hatchet agreed, "How're you gonna fit this into a full-hour timeslot?"
"44 minutes, actually," Chris corrected, "And I'm sure the editors will fit in a few timelapses."
--------
A full hour passed since the start of the challenge, and each camper showed visible signs of fatigue. Even though they had faced challenges that required them to run around the entire island, none of the campers felt more tired than they were now. Almost everyone's pace had slowed down, and some were barely moving.
"Carefully!" Daniel shouted as he fell to the ground once again, "Y'know, I think I'll just lay here for a bit."
"Should've joined me ten minutes ago, man," Devin remarked as he turned onto his side, also laying down.
"C'mon men!" Aaron shouted, hoping to motivate his allies, "Get up!"
"Easier said than done," Daniel noted as he laid down on the ground.
"Looking around, I'm pretty far behind Aaron for the ten grand, Amalia or Veronica will probably win the special power, and I'm confident that Tory can pull out a win for immunity. It doesn't look like I'll get anything, and quite frankly, I think it's best that I just act weak for now."- Daniel
"Just skate...just skate..." Aaron remarked as he continued to slide.
"I am so close to filling up my container. Just a few more trips, and I'll be $10,000 richer."- Aaron
"Aaron is getting close!" Chris announced, "Daniel, don't you wanna get up and try to catch him?"
"Eh..." Daniel muttered, completely exhausted.
"There!" Aaron exclaimed as he stuck his fingers through the small hole and pulled out the ball, "Show me the money!"
"And Aaron has won $10,000!" Chris declared, causing all the campers to cheer instinctively, "That means that Aaron is out, but everyone else can still compete for the other two prizes. Even Daniel if he wants."
"I think I'm gonna sit out the rest of this," Daniel declared as he slipped and faceplanted the ground, "Owie..."
"C'mon man," Aaron ushered as he flanked Daniel, "Can you walk?"
"I can if you're there to stabilize me," Daniel assured as him and Aaron carefully walked off the challenge field.
"You need a doctor?" Aaron asked.
"Nah, I'll be fine," Daniel answered as he laid down on a bench.
"Well, now we need to have a talk," Aaron declared, "Devin told you about the alliance, right?"
"Now that Daniel & I are alone, I need to talk to him and ensure that I have his loyalty going forward. I haven't had a one-on-one talk with him yet, so hopefully this pans out well."- Aaron
"Yeah, he told me about it," Daniel confirmed, "He told me that you and Ellie are close."
"Yeah, I really feel like her and I have a bit of a connection," Aaron admitted, "I think she wouldn't mind voting with us."
"I'm just worried that she'll want to come after me," Daniel expressed.
"Honestly, if I can sit her down and have a talk with her, I can convince her to work with you," Aaron insisted, "Right now, her number one priority is her safety, and I can be her saviour."
"Do you...like her?" Daniel asked, curious, "Like, 'like-like' her?"
'Honestly...." Aaron began, thinking about how he should answer it, "She's a really nice girl, but I don't know if her and I should be a couple."
"It's...kinda complicated. Ellie has it all: she's beautiful, athletic, genuine, and outgoing. She's the kind of girl that I would hit on back home. But...a part of me feels like her and I are better off being friends. I honestly like where her and I stand now, and I don't want anything to ruin what her and I have."- Aaron
"Well, take some advice from a guy that's in a relationship: don't force yourself to do anything that might put you in a position to get hurt," Daniel insisted, "The last thing you want is to get heartbroken."
"I'll find an answer soon," Aaron assured, "Back on track: are you up for the alliance?"
"Honestly, I think it's a good idea," Daniel agreed, "As long as you can get Ellie with us."
"I'm willing to forgive, but forgetting is a whole new story. I'll align with them if it'll benefit Amalia & I, but when the time comes, I won't hesitate to take Ellie out."- Daniel
"Oooh! The race for the special power is coming to a close!" Chris announced.
"Almost there..." Veronica muttered as she poured another cup of tea.
"Just a little shake..." Amalia remarked as she shook her completely-filled container of tea, "There it is!"
"And Amalia has won the special power!" Chris declared.
"Yes!" Amalia cheered as she jumped up and down, causing her to slip and fall.
"I think I'm done..." Veronica remarked as she laid down on her lane.
"Amalia, here is your special power," Chris remarked as he walked over and handed her an envelope, "I'd advise you to read it in private."
"That I will do," Amalia agreed as she walked off towards the communal bathrooms.
"Hopefully this 'special power' is actually beneficial. This might put a target on my back, but I'm not super concerned about it."- Amalia
"And now, we're down to six people competing for immunity," Chris announced.
"Make that five," Devin corrected as he stepped off his lane, "I'm done."
"Yeah, I ain't doin' this," Rhythm agreed as she stepped off of her lane.
"And...we're down to four!" Chris recounted, "Looks like Tory is in the lead, followed by Matthew, who's closely followed by Kiana, and Katelyn is far in the back."
"We get it!" Katelyn screamed angrily as she ran back to her teapot.
"I'm really far behind. I'm looking at everyone:Tory is acting like this is just another walk in the park, Matthew looks pretty weakened, but Kiana seems like she still has some life left in her. I'm hoping that Kiana can just speed up a little more and beat Tory for immunity."- Katelyn
"Ughh...we're gonna be here a while longer," Katelyn remarked as she knelt beside her teapot.
--------
It's now been two hours since the start of the challenge, and the ambiance of the campsite seemed to darken to the point of almost utter silence. Those who were watching were tense, wondering who would come out with a victory. For those who were still in the challenge, they were emitting the sounds of grunts, groans, and heavy breathing, almost completely exhausted from the challenge.
"Ahh..." Katelyn sighed as she collapsed on the ground, "I don't know if I can stand..."
"Never have I been so happy to be in a chair," Matthew remarked as he slid across the lane.
"Do it for your allies, Kiana," Kiana reminded herself, nearly tearing up, "Do it for them..."
"My core is burning, my legs are trembling, and my back feels like I've been bent into a pretzel. But I know that I have so many people counting on me. I take a look to my right and Tory isn't that far from finishing; if I don't win this challenge, I'm letting my alliance down. And I can't have that."- Kiana
"You can cry when it's over..." Tory muttered, "You can cry when it's over."
"Not gonna lie: this challenge is kicking my butt. At first, I wasn't worried; Matthew and I had this challenge on lock. But now, Matthew is slowing down and Kiana is almost ahead of me. I need to win this challenge so the other alliance is left completely vulnerable."- Tory
"You can do it, Kiana!" Katelyn encouraged, "You can do it!"
"Kiana isn't that far behind. If she can just turn her speed up one more notch, she can pass Tory and win immunity. C'mon Kiana!"- Katelyn
"Alright!" Tory exclaimed as he filled his container and tossed his cup to the side, "Now to find the ball..."
"Kiana! He's almost there!" Katelyn shouted, "Go for it!"
"Alright! Here goes nothing..." Kiana declared as she reached into her container.
The spectators waited patiently as Kiana and Tory continued to reach into their containers. None of them knew who would get the ball first; Tory built a big lead, but Kiana managed to catch up fairly quickly. As for Kiana & Tory, they nearly spent all of their energy; they were using their last reserves to try and find their ball and win immunity.
"HA!" Tory shouted as he grabbed the ball and collapsed to the ground.
"That's it!" Chris declared, "Tory has won individual immunity! Devin, you may now hand your Golden Marshmallow necklace over to Tory."
"Here ya' go, man," Devin congratulated as he put the necklace around Tory's neck.
"WHOOOOOOO! This is big, baby! I just won immunity, and the other alliance is done for! It's time to do what we should've done last time."- Tory
"Thanks," Tory thanked as he struggled to stand, "Mind if I get a hand?"
While many of the campers tended to Tory's aid, Katelyn tended to Kiana, who was crying in her lane. Kiana knew that it was up to her to win immunity, so to let it slip out of her grasp when it was so close made her feel terrible.
"C'mon Kiana," Katelyn consoled as she went to hug her ally, "It's alright..."
"I'm sorry, Katelyn..." Kiana apologized, sobbing, "I'm sorry I let you down..."
"Don't worry about it; you did your best," Katelyn assured as she tapped her friend on the back, "That's all that I can ask for from an ally."
"Through thick and thin, I've always been friends with Kiana. As far as I know, she's the only person here who I haven't betrayed or lied to in one way or another. It's my job to go to her, pick her up, and not let this loss get to her. I need her at full strength if we're going to survive this upcoming elimination ceremony."- Katelyn
"Well, that was easily the most physically-demanding challenge that we've had so far," Chris observed as he talked to the camera, "Come back after the break to find out how this all rolls out, right here, on Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
