Chapter Fifteen
I wake up to feel a deep sadness. I miss Sadie and Katie already! They may not have been the brightest bulbs in the shed, but they were also kind, fun and full of good energy. I get out of bed. I know that it's morning because I can see light coming from the crack under the door. Sure enough, Chris yells at us to wake up through the loudspeakers. Bridgette's itch from the poison ivy seems to be getting better. Me and Eva helped her put soap on it last night. Me and Bridgette are both still suffering from our broken bones (well actually, we don't know if their broken, but I assume that they are). I'm glad that Chris had a tiny crumb of goodness in his heart to give me a cast, otherwise I wouldn't be able to move. After we do all the morning stuff (change from pajamas to clothes, brush teeth and hair), we go to the dining hall and sit at the same table as yesterday. We get breakfast and talk about how we miss Katie and Sadie for a bit, then we begin discussing strategy. We talk in hushed voices so the others can't hear us.
"It's obvious that Gwen and Trent have made up from their fight, so they'll obviously be voting together. If their smart enough to join forces with Geoff and DJ or vice versa, it'll be four against three, making all of us viable candidates to vote off. I think that to play it safe, we should try to get Geoff and DJ to join our alliance. Problem is, we don't know if they're trustworthy. They could stab us in the back whenever they wanted," I say.
"Our best bet would be to get Geoff and DJ to join, but Courtney, your totally right about them being unreliable. I mean, they are our friends, and Geoff is Bridgette's boyfriend, but-" Eva starts, but is interrupted by Bridgette saying;
"And DJ is your boooooyfriend."
"Okay, okay. Point is, although we have good relationships with them outside of competition, we did declare war on them, which they declared back on us, then we booted one of their alliance buddies/friends, so they might be out to get us."
"Oh man. I guess what we have to do now is decide if it's worth it or not to ask them to be in our alliance," I say.
"I think it is worth it. If we don't ask them, everyone is going to be targeting us since our alliance has the most people in it, so I'm almost one hundred percent sure Geoff and DJ will team up with Trent and Gwen to take us down. If we ask Geoff and DJ to be in our alliance, they might betray us, but at least there's a chance that they wouldn't. I think it's safe to say that if we don't ask them we're screwed. It's a long shot but it's our only choice," Bridgette says.
"Okay, I guess your right. If they betray us, at least we'll know that we were screwed either way," I say.
"Alright, who's gonna do it?" Eva asks.
"Bridgette since she's the nicest. No offense Eva, just we all know that you and me can be kind of intimidating, which is good sometimes, but in this case we want them to feel as welcome as possible." We all giggle and Bridgette agrees to do it. Me and Eva eat and listen as Bridgette talks to them. The whole room is quiet, so we hear every word. They tease us about how we were just bragging and about how they knew we'd end up having to crawl back to them, but they say yes! Eva is sitting on the bench facing them, and she whispers to me about how pissed Gwen and Trent look. I don't blame them, I'd be pissed too if everyone else was ganging up on me. Bridgette invites DJ and Geoff to come sit with us and we all finish breakfast then await Chris's challenge announcement. While we wait we decide on a new alliance name, instead of being the 'Ex Killer-Bass Girls', we're just going to be the 'leftover Killer Bass'. Not a very good name, I know, but who cares. Chris eventually comes in and tells us to meet him in the woods. He announces the challenge once we arrive.
"Bad morning campers! Get it? Instead of good morning? Cause I don't like you! *laughs his obnoxious laugh* Anyway, here's the challenge; we will give everyone a piece of wood that they must guard with their lives. If you steal someone else's piece, they're out. Last person to still have a piece of wood wins invincibility. If your out, you can still steal other people's wood. To make the challenge dangerous, you have to stay in the woods. You can all expect to be attacked by some sort of creature that lives in the woods at least once." Chef hands everyone a piece of wood that is small enough to carry but still pretty heavy, then Chris yells 'go' and we're off. Gwen and Trent run off together, but the rest of us stay to discuss strategy.
"So first I'll point out the obvious; no getting each other out. My idea for a plan is to split up where you can either go by yourself or with one other person. That way, it'll be easier to sneak up on the. Our main goal is obviously to get Gwen and Trent out. Once we do that, we can decide who we want to have invincibility and the rest of us can get each other out," I strategize.
"That sounds like a good idea. Since me and Courtney are the strongest players, I think we should take... less strong players with us. For example, me and DJ could go together since he's too nice and wouldn't beat up animals that attack him," Eva says.
"I think the real reason you want to take him is so you two can have privacy to makeout," Geoff teases. Which he shouldn't have done! Eva smacks him in the arm so hard he falls over. I laugh at him.
"There are some girls that don't like getting teased. For example, me and Eva," I giggle.
"Lesson learned," Geoff squeaks in pain.
"We better get going. Once we get Trent and Gwen out, let's meet up here," I say.
"What if we can't find it?" DJ asks.
"I don't know! Just... be able to find it! Come on let's get going! I doubt they'd be that bold, but there is a chance that Trent and Gwen could attack us right now," I say. Eva gives a nod and a thumbs up before running off into the woods with DJ. They are both really fast runners, which is good because Eva is a MACHINE. I wouldn't want any lover boy slowing her down. Bridgette asks me if I wanna go with her and I say sure. Geoff asks 'why ya gotta leave me hangin like that?' To which I respond 'tough love.' Then I assure Geoff that he is a strong player and person and will be just fine. Me and Bridgette take off into the woods. We make sure to go in the oppeiste direction that DJ and Eva went so we can cover more ground.
"Where do you think they're hiding?" Bridgette asks.
"Beats me."
"Well Eva and DJ already went in the direction we saw Trent and Gwen run in, so they're probably gonna be the ones to find them."
"Yeah, but it's still helpful to keep an eye out just in case they make it over here. Now let's climb this tree, it's probably the safest place to be. You know, with the bears and stuff," I say, then we climb to the top of one of the many trees in front of us. It's scary sitting on a branch so far up, but it's nothing compared to the other crap I've had to go through on this stupid show. In Total Drama standards, this challenge is a break!
"So, how's your side feeling?" Bridgette questions.
"Better. The cast helps a lot."
"Yeah it does. Mine is feeling better too. That octopus sure was mean!"
"Yeah, it was."
"So, do you miss Duncan?"
"Yeah. But I don't get a painfully sad feeling when I think of him anymore. The closure we had that night on the dock made me feel so much better about the whole thing."
"What do you mean by the whole thing?"
"The whole thing of our relationship. When we were together, when he cheated on me, when we were done for good. Which we still are, but there's no more... bad energy between us."
" That's good. I'm happy for you, Courtney."
"Thanks. And thanks for being such a good support."
"No problem. I'm always here for you." Bridgette reaches over and gives me a hug. I hug her back, careful not to fall off the branch. I wonder if anyone's wood has been stolen yet, it's been a while. It took a long time to get up the tree, since we had to do it while holding our wood. It's hard to climb a tree one handed, it takes a lot of balance and a lot of switching the wood between hands. Me and Bridgette sit and chat for a while. We don't talk about anything deep, just tell each other about our home lives. She tells me about her small but loving friend group and I tell her about Tom. She tells me about how her and her friends once got stuck at the pumpkin patch because the car they'd driven there in got a flat tire as they were pulling out because some idiot had left a broken beer bottle there. They had to call the repair shop and get the car lifted on a big truck and taken to the repair store. Insurance covered some of it, but they did have to pay a little big. Luckily their parents weren't mad when they came to pick them up because it wasn't their fault the tire got popped. I told her about the most exciting thing me and Tom have ever done, once we ditched art class to perfect our math class projects. We hadn't procrastinated of course, we never do that. We just wanted to make sure for the fifth time that our projects were 100% perfect. We both got A+'s on that project. I realized how sad it was that that was the coolest thing me and Tom have ever done when Bridgette stifled a laugh as I told her about it. She wasn't trying to be mean of course, it's just hard not to laugh at the fact that something that seems so lame could be the coolest thing two friends have ever done together. But to tell the truth, me and Tom are pretty boring. We mostly just work on school stuff together and talk about college and kids that annoy us in class. Sometimes Tom talks about guys he's had a crush on, which is kind of fun. I told him a little bit about how I was sad about Duncan, but not very much. Although me and Tom love each other more than anyone or anything else in the world (besides our parents), we never talk about anything deep with each other. Right now me and Bridgette are chatting about how cute of a couple DJ and Eva are. All of the sudden, I feel a body crash into mine, knocking me into Bridgette and sending us all falling. We land painfully on a branch, and I feel my wood ripped out of my hands before I can tighten my grip. By the time I get up, Gwen is already jumping up to another tree, escaping with my wood. I get up as quick as I can to chase her but it's no use.
"Courtney is out!" Chris announces. I try to catch up to her in with a death defying leap to the tree she just jumped onto, but she's already on to the next tree now, and she's climbing up it super fast. There's no way I can catch up and steal her wood. I'll get her another time! But for now, I need to check on Bridgette. She didn't land on the same branch as me and Gwen, so I need to find her and make sure she's okay. I make the jump back to the tree and look down to see Bridgette covered in scrapes, laying with her arms wrapped around her the tree branch. I hop down to her branch and steady myself enough to pull her onto my lap. I'm pretty banged up, but her fall was longer and it's worse for her. She's covered in bruises to along with her many scrapes. And she's missing her wood. I her leaves crunch below us. I carefully look down and see Trent grab Bridgette's wood, which had fallen to the bottom of the tree. Chris announces that she's out. Dang it! At least no one else in my alliance is out yet (I know because Chris would've announced it).
"You okay Bridge?"
"Yeah," Bridgette faintly mumbles.
"I wish I could help you feel better, but I can't. I'm hurt to, I know it sucks but we have to get up and try to steal Gwen and Trent's wood. We have an advantage now, we don't have anything to lose anymore!" Bridgette slowly gets up and nods. We decide to climb down the tree and run in the direction I saw Gwen go. We make sure to glance up at the trees every few seconds and I guess it was a good plan because we see Gwen climbing down a tree. I quickly pull Bridgette to hide with me behind the tree next to the one Gwen is climbing down so we can sneak attack her. When Gwen reaches the bottom of the tree, me and Bridgette run as fast as we can and tackle her. I savagely rip the wood out of her hands, and Chris announces that she's out. Gwen glares at us then runs off in the direction Trent went after stealing Bridgette's wood.
"Should we follow her and try to find Trent, or do you think they're too far away and it's useless?" I ask.
"I think we should follow them. We have nothing to lose, and nothing to do, so why not," Bridgette says. I say okay and we start jogging in the direction Gwen went. It would be more ideal to sprint, but we are both super exhausted. As we jog along, we hear Chris announce that DJ is out. I'm surprised! It seems like Eva would smack anyone who came close to his wood, but I bet they got sneak attacked just like us. It's too bad that Eva and DJ ended up crossing paths with Gwen and Trent, because now there are only two people who are in my alliance that are still in, Geoff and Eva. I have no idea where Geoff is, and Eva must have just escaped Gwen, so she's a close target. But she's super tough, I'm sure she won't get out. Me and Bridgette have no idea where anyone is, just that DJ, Trent, Gwen and Eva are near each other. We decide to sit here and wait till the challenge is over, and if in a rare chance Trent or Gwen passes by us we'll jump up and attack them. Me and Bridgette talk about random things like our grades in school (we both have very good ones) and what we want to be when we grow up (we both want to be moms in a long time, and Bridgette wants to be a veterinarian, and I want to be a lawyer). Bridgette is mid sentence of telling me about the veterinarian classes she's been taking when Chris announces that Trent is out. Geoff and Eva are the only two left, yay! Me and Bridgette high five. Then we get up and continue our conversation as we jog to the place we planned to meet up. Geoff is already there when we arrive, and Eva and DJ get there shortly after.
"They sneak attacked us and I was able to fight Trent off and he ran away but DJ got surprised and Gwen stole his block," Eva says.
"Wow DJ, nice reflexes," I joke, but Geoff gets me back with his snarky comment;
"You don't have a wood either, just sayin." I roll my eyes.
"At least someone got Gwen's block! Who was that?" Bridgette asks.
"Me and DJ," Eva says, and gives DJ a I'm-proud-of-you thump on the back. I was worried that she would accidentally hit him too hard, but he doesn't even flinch. They are so perfect for each other! We talk strategy and decide that Eva should get invincibility since she's a super strong player so 1. we need her and 2. she's a target for voting. Which we don't have to worry about as long as Geoff and DJ stay loyal to us. Geoff hands Bridgette his wood and Chris announces that he's out. My alliance walks over to dinner and sits at the table that Gwen and Trent aren't sitting at. We discuss who we want to give the boot.
"I don't think it matters who we vote for. Their both strong players," Bridgette says.
"How about we vote for Gwen because I don't like her, and she's a really strong player. Better than Trent, even. She made it super far in island and All Stars and pretty far in World Tour," I suggest.
"Okay. Gwen it is. Everyone agree?" Eva asks. Everyone nods and says yes. YES! Finally that jerk will be gone and I won't have to see her face every day! When it comes time for the elimination, everyone in my alliance sits next to each other. Gwen and Trent both looked pissed and defeated, since they know that one of them is a goner. We were super obvious about our alliance because there's nothing they could've done about it anyways.
"So. The challenge is over, you've all eaten dinner, blah, blah, blah. Point is, this is usually when we do the thing with the marshmallows and the elimination. But tonight, we won't be doing that because someone cheated in the challenge! Bridgette, your out!" Chris says, shocking everyone.
"What? I didn't cheat!" Bridgette says, panicking.
"Yes you did! You were supposed to steal the wood. But you got a piece handed to you!"
"How is that not Geoff's fault for handing it to her?" I yell.
"Because, like I just said, you were supposed to steal them. She cheated by getting one handed to her," Chris says, annoyed about all the protesting.
"Aw man, I could've handed it to anyone but I handed it to Bridgette randomly! I guess that's just bad luck," Geoff says, visibly disappointed.
"Bridgette! Leave! Now! I've had enough of your guys's complaining!" Chris demands. Me, Eva, Geoff and DJ all hug Bridgette and tell her we'll miss her. Me and Eva thank her for being such a good friend and alliance member. We all put our hands on top of each other and Bridgette meekly says 'leftover Killer Bass on three?' Then we all chant '1, 2, 3, Ex Killer Bass!' and throw our hands into the air. Me, Eva and Bridgette group hug then Bridgette gets on the boat of losers. We wave back and forth with her and she sails away. Trent and Gwen start to leave but Chris tells them to wait. When Bridgette is out of sight, Chris says that he has an announcement.
"I think that we should go over the votes, just so you guys can see who would've been out if Bridgette didn't cheat. Let's see, one vote for Gwen, one vote for Courtney. Another vote for Gwen, another vote for Courtney. Another vote for Courtney, and another vote for Courtney. That means there were two votes for Gwen and four votes for Courtney," Chris says. I fiercely swivel my head towards Geoff and DJ. DJ lets out a nervous laugh and Geoff whimpers out a terrified 'sorry.' I smack DJ, who is closest to me, right across the face. Eva does the same to Geoff.
"Traitors! Fine then, you want it to be that way? It can be that way. Your going down, TRAITORS!" Eva yells. I give the meanest death glare I can give, then me and Eva storm off to our cabin. There's enough room for Gwen to sleep in me and Eva's cabin, but she knows better.
Will Trent, Gwen, DJ and Geoff continue their alliance? How will me and Eva manage all by ourselves? Is there anything me and Eva can do to sabotage the others? Find out next time on Total. Drama. Island 2.0!
