Episode 7: Love Hurts- Downtime/Elimination

"And we're back to the seventh episode of Total Drama Double Trouble," Chris declared as the cameras panned in on him at the campfire area, "Before the break, a LARPing challenge ended early when Amalia was knocked off a cliff and suffered a leg injury. As the Mole-Rats were closer to their goal than the Owls, the Multiple Mole-Rats won immunity. Now that they're forced to vote someone out, how will the Observant Owls use this vote to better the team?"

--------

Normally, the cameras would turn to a group of members on the losing team to see their reactions and planning for the upcoming elimination ceremony. But this time, the cameras first turned their attention to the mess hall, where Spencer, Damien, Cole, & Tory gathered to discuss the recent events and the upcoming events.

"That'll rattle your mind a bit," Tory commented, "That was rough."

"Even though Amalia and I weren't aligned at all this season, I feel really bad that she's hurt. I wouldn't wish an injury on anybody."- Tory

"Are you alright, Spencer?" Damien asked, tapping his ally on the back, "I know that you probably feel bad."

"Of course I feel bad," Spencer confirmed.

"It was an accident," Cole reminded, "It could've happened to anyone and could've been done by anyone."

"Of course I know that it's an accident," Spencer assured, "That doesn't stop me from feeling a bit guilty."

"Knowing that I seriously injured someone really hits me in the heart. And the odd thing is that I can't exactly be punished for it; when we sign our contracts, we waive our right to put forth a lawsuit against the other campers for an incident if it's an accident. So if Amalia wanted to sue me, she can't, and that really makes me feel guilty."- Spencer

"Look, you can't let this affect your game," Damien insisted, "We all came here for the same reason; to win a million dollars. You can't let an accident haunt you for the rest of your life."

"Trust me, I know that too," Spencer agreed, "I just need some time to get over it."

"Hopefully you're here long enough to do that," Tory commented, "It wouldn't shock me if Daniel convinced Veronica, Kavan, & Karlie to vote for you."

"Well, it doesn't matter," Spencer claimed, "I'm gonna cancel the votes for me anyway."

"Wait..." Damien muttered, believing that he knew what Spencer was hinting at, "Do you...?"

"Yep!" Spencer confirmed as he pulled his invincibility statue out of his pocket, "It took some work, but I found it."

"Sweet!" Tory praised, high-fiving Spencer in response.

"Looks like we're in the same boat," Cole commented as he pulled out his invincibility statue as well.

"No way!" Spencer exclaimed in surprise, "Awesome!"

"I originally didn't want to tell anyone about my invincibility statue, but now that Spencer revealed his statue, I kinda have to do it too. If I don't tell my group about it and I use it later on, that tells them that I don't fully trust them. Even if that's true; which it is, I don't need them to know that."- Cole

"Now this is how we turn our fortunes around," Tory noted, "We need to use this properly."

"If I use this on myself, then Damien and I need to vote for one of the other four," Spencer noted, "And we gotta vote for the biggest threat."

"I think that this is your chance to get revenge on Karlie," Cole suggested, "It's time to show her that she shouldn't have turned her back on us."

"I wanna get rid of Daniel," Spencer admitted, "He's a cool guy, but I don't even want to think about what he'd do to me after what I did to Amalia."

"Daniel has a cool head; he wouldn't hurt you," Tory assured, "I think you guys should go for Veronica; she's probably gonna be the biggest threat come the merge."

"How about this?" Damien began, having a decent idea, "What if I go to Kavan, Veronica, Daniel, & Karlie and try to convince them to vote for Spencer? Then, Spencer & I could each vote for someone different. That way, they have to choose who in their alliance to eliminate, and that's gonna create some cracks in the alliance."

"Now that Annie is gone and Daniel is probably upset with me, I need a new 'number one' ally. And right now, Damien seems like the right choice; he's really strategic, and he knows how to keep a cool head."- Spencer

"That's actually really good!" Cole praised, "Whoever stays is gonna be so annoyed with whoever didn't vote to keep them."

"I know," Damien commented, smirking.

"Well, which two people should you vote for?" Tory asked.

"If we split it between Daniel & Veronica, I think Daniel gets voted out," Damien expressed, "If we split it between Daniel & Karlie, Veronica & Kavan might be split on who to vote out, leaving it up to us. Same if it's between Karlie & Veronica."

"I think that we have to make a rational choice, not an emotional one," Tory claimed, "Daniel & Veronica are more threatening than Karlie. And if Kavan votes to save Daniel over his girlfriend, and we vote Daniel out on the revote, Veronica will be upset with Kavan and it'll break that bond, allowing us to jump in and regain control."

"Exactly," Damien agreed, "This could work out well for us."

"I know that it's kinda bad to take advantage of a scenario like this, but it's a cutthroat game, and we've got to do what we've got to do to win."- Damien

--------

Everyone wanted to win; they wouldn't still be here if they didn't want to. But there were some cases that it didn't matter if they wanted to be there or not. Amalia was one of those cases: even though she was willing to fight all the way to the end, her health was the number one priority of the medical team at the medical office, putting her future in the competition in limbo. As of now, Amalia was in a medical examination room, waiting with Daniel, Karlie, Callie, Alina, & Rhythm by her side.

"Are you feeling better at all?" Daniel asked as he sat by Amalia's hospital bed.

"Not really..." Amalia admitted, taking a few seconds to hold off the pain, "It hurts..."

"Just don't move," Daniel advised, "The less you move, the less it'll hurt."

"This is really bad..." Callie commented whilst hugging Alina for comfort.

"I really hope that Amalia is okay....maybe it's just really, really, really, really sore..."- Callie

"Everything will work out in the end," Alina insisted, "It'll be fine."

"I know that we want to be optimistic here, but we kinda have to be realistic here," Rhythm remarked, "I don't think this'll end well."

"If Amalia's leg really is broken; which I think it is, there's no way that she can stay. She needs to get off her leg and take time to recover. And even if she does stay, she won't be able to compete in any physical challenges, meaning that she'll probably be voted out soon anyways."- Rhythm

"Campers," Chris interjected, causing the six campers to face him and the doctor with him, "This is Dr.Cavallo; she's the head of our medical team who specializes in treating cardiovascular, respiratory, and orthopedic illnesses and maladies."

"How long did it take you to memorize that?" Dr.Cavallo asked, causing the campers to laugh, "Just kidding. So Amalia, I've got some news about your little accident."

"Give it to me straight, doctor," Amalia insisted, "Is my leg broken?"

"According to the examination done by the nurse, at the very least, there's an incomplete fracture," Dr.Cavallo revealed.

"F*ck..." Amalia muttered, slamming the back of her head into her pillow.

"You said 'at the very least'," Daniel repeated, "You're not sure?"

"Truthfully, aside from the swelling and brusing, there's no true indicator of the severity of the fracture," Dr.Cavallo explained, "The only way to know the extent of the injury is to perform an x-ray of the area. And to do that, I would have to pull Amalia from the show."

That statement made everyone in the room much less optimistic. While they all knew that there was a chance for Amalia to be removed from the show, the reality was that more likely than not, it was over for her. The campers were left uncertain on what to say next, prompting Chris to jump in.

"So, per the rules of the show, it's your call," Chris declared, turning his attention to Dr.Cavallo, "Is this a case where something can be done to prevent having to remove her from the show? Or is it a definite thing that she has to go?"

"Dr.Cavallo, I want to stay," Amalia insisted, not wanting to give up, "I'll do anything."

The group watched silently as Dr.Cavallo was thinking about her orders. They all wanted Amalia to stay, but they also didn't want her injury to become worse and end up having any long-term effects. After about thirty seconds of thinking, Dr.Cavallo was ready to deliver her verdict.

"With your age and the the lifestyle that you live..." Dr.Cavallo began before speaking again, "I believe it's too risky to keep you here and risk further damage to your leg."

That declaration send the campers into a series of different emotions. Amalia was crying, both from the news and the pain in her leg. Callie was also crying, being sad to see a close friend of hers leave. Alina did her best to hold back tears, not wanting to make Callie even more sad. Rhythm channeled her sadness into frustration, doing her best not to scream. Daniel was the odd one out: he hardly showed any emotion at all, making the group think that he was suppressing the sadness that he was experiencing.

"I don't like being in a room with a bunch of crying kids; it's such a buzzkill and it's a pain to control. But I've got to say something; or else it brings up a bunch of stuff about 'emotional negligence' that I don't wanna deal with."- Chris

"Well....this is clearly a tough pill to swallow," Chris declared before walking over to Amalia, "Amalia, you know that there's three ways of being eliminated from this game other than being voted out. Two of them are quitting and being disqualified; and you aren't doing either. The third option is if the doctors believe that you are too injured to continue. You may want to stay, but you don't have a choice; it's the doctor's orders."

"Amalia, don't take it too hard," Daniel insisted, "You're not losing anything because of this; you are still the strong, sweet, and rebellious woman that I fell in love with. This isn't going to change anything about us or how people perceive us. Okay?"

"O-Okay..." Amalia agreed through some tears, "I love you..."

"I love you too," Daniel replied.

"Just letting you know, a helicopter is being set up for an emergency evacuation," Dr.Cavallo revealed, "We're gonna get her to a hospital on the Newfoundland mainland where she can be properly treated."

"You hear that?" Daniel asked, smiling, "You're gonna get help. You're gonna be fine."

"Do we move her out now?" Chris asked to Dr.Cavallo.

"Yes," Dr.Cavallo confirmed, "As for the five other campers, we'll need you to wait outside."

--------

Within five minutes, a team of doctors and nurses were wheeling Amalia's hospital bed out of the medical office and towards the helicopter. With the urgency of the evacuation, the other campers weren't able to watch her leave. While Chris left to inform the other campers of the evacuation, Karlie, Callie, Alina, & Rhythm were left to watch Amalia be taken to the helicopter, and Daniel was allowed to walk with the doctors so he could talk to Amalia before she left.

"You're in good hands!" Daniel insisted, shouting over the sound of the helicopter blades, "You're gonna be fine!"

"You gotta win this, okay!" Amalia replied, shouting as well, "Win it for me!"

"I'll win it for us!" Daniel corrected before kissing Amalia on the lips, "I love you!"

"I love you!" Amalia responded before the doctors & nurses loaded her into the helicopter.

"Are you alright?" Callie asked as Daniel ran back to the group.

"I'll be fine," Daniel replied with a serious expression on his face, "I've gotta be strong."

The group held back their tears as they watched the engines of the helicopter rev up, signalling that it was about to fly away. The group waved goodbye as the helicopter gently rose off the ground and flew away from the island. Amalia leaving wasn't just about losing a camper or losing an ally; Amalia was a genuine friend to those who watched her leaving, and the loss was felt heavily by all of them.

"I'm gonna miss her," Callie admitted before hugging Alina again.

"We're all gonna miss her," Alina assured, "But we're not gonna stand here and cry; we're gonna compete in her honour."

"Exactly!" Rhythm agreed, "We're gonna hold back our tears and keep Amalia in our minds, right, Daniel?"

Rhythm waited for a few seconds for a response from Daniel, but had failed to notice that he was walking towards the forest and the path that lead back to camp. He reached the entrance to the forest when they turned around to look for him. If there was any indication of how Daniel truly felt about Amalia's evacuation, that was it.

"I knew it..." Karlie commented, "He didn't want Amalia to see him cry."

"Can't blame him," Rhythm admitted, "No guy is that tough."

"He must be devastated..." Callie commented, still hugging Alina.

--------

Callie was definitely correct: Daniel was crushed. He refused to cry in front of anyone because he didn't want anyone to think that he was weak; he wanted to keep up the persona that he was the fearless leader that can be counted on no matter what. But it wasn't the fact that Amalia wasn't there that made him cry; it was him knowing that he couldn't do anything to help Amalia. The two of them had spent the past two years helping out each other in every situation imaginable; whether it was getting medicine when she was sick or helping her win a million dollars, Daniel always did what he could to help Amalia. So to know that he couldn't do anything made him feel helpless. Right now, he was sitting on the Dock of Shame, with Veronica, Kavan, and Karlie watching him.

"There he is," Veronica commented as she pointed to Daniel sitting on the dock.

"Amalia didn't deserve to go out this way. She went out way before she should've. And now that Daniel is here without her, he's gonna be an emotional wreck."- Veronica

"Daniel doesn't get sad that often," Kavan claimed, "He's really messed up right now."

"I've known Daniel for a few years; he doesn't show emotion that often outside this game. But I could tell that when he came back from the first season, he was so much happier than he was before. He puts on a façade that he's a calm guy who keeps a cool head, but that's because he saves his true emotions for the people in his life that he truly loves. Amalia is one of those people, so with her being gone, Daniel's got one less person to rely on for support."- Kavan

"Hey guys," Damien greeted as he walked up to the group, "How's Daniel doing?"

"He's still sad," Karlie answered, "Understandably so."

"He probably wants to be alone right now," Damien rationalized, "Mind if I talk to you guys for a few minutes?"

"Eh, sure," Veronica allowed as her and Kavan followed Damien towards the losers' cabin, "C'mon, Karlie."

"Um....I'm gonna check on Daniel," Karlie declared, allowing her three teammates to return to their cabin, "Let's see..."

"Daniel's not the only one who lost a close ally; I'm one of Amalia's closest friends and it sucks that she had to leave so early. But I don't have time to think about that; I have to focus on turning this around. If I can get to Daniel and reignite the fire in him, we can be the support system for each other that Amalia was for both of us."- Karlie

In recent memory, Karlie & Daniel haven't had a one-on-one conversation with each other. Karlie wasn't entirely sure with how to approach Daniel, so she settled on trying to be comforting and empathetic. She would've started with a probe question, but was slightly caught off guard by Daniel singing a depressing song.

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

I left my home in London...
Headed for the Green Bays...
Cuz I've had nothing to live for...
And look like nothing's gonna come my way...

So, I'm just gon', sit on the dock of the bay...
Watchin' the tide...roll away...ooh...
I'm sittin' on the dock...of the bay...
Wastin' time....

Looks like nothing's gonna change...
Everything still remains the same...
I can't do what ten people tell me to do...
So I guess I'll remain the same...

Sittin' here resting my bones...
And this loneliness won't leave me alone, listen...
Two thousand miles I roam...
Just to make this dock my home, now...

♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

"Hey....Daniel..." Karlie greeted, causing Daniel to look over at her, "Mind if I take a seat?"

"Go ahead," Daniel allowed, causing Karlie to sit next to him.

"How are you holding up?" Karlie asked out of curiosity.

"Not well," Daniel admitted, "If I have to be honest, of course."

"Look, I know how much Amalia means to you," Karlie insisted, "She means a lot to me too. That's why we have to pick ourselves up and keep on playing."

"Karlie....have you ever blamed yourself for something that's clearly not your fault?" Daniel asked, still staring into the distance.

"Uh....yeah?" Karlie replied, a bit unsure, "I mean, I've blamed myself for bombing tests when they've been completely unreasonable."

"I'm feeling that way right now," Daniel revealed, "I feel like I could've stopped Amalia from falling off that cliff."

"Daniel....you couldn't have done anything more!" Karlie insisted, trying to lessen his guilt, "Remember: you were chained to a pole."

"If I didn't enter the water on Boney Island, I wouldn't have become hypothermic, I wouldn't have been in the hospital, and Chris wouldn't have picked me to be chained to the pole," Daniel pointed out, "Thus, I could've defended Amalia before she got pushed off the cliff."

"I guess Amalia was right: Daniel can be a bit stubborn and self-deprecating. I've got to find a way to turn this around."- Karlie

"Chris could've picked you even if you weren't in the hospital," Karlie noted, "And Boney Island might not have been a bust. Did you find anything?"

"Uh...yeah," Daniel admitted as he pulled his invincibility statue out of his vest, "I have this."

"Perfect!" Karlie exclaimed, "See? Not all hope is lost!"

"True....not all hope is lost..." Daniel agreed before grabbing Karlie's left wrist and placing the statue in her hand, "It's yours now."

"What?" Karlie asked, confused, "Daniel, I can't-"

"I've got a bad feeling that I could be voted out tonight; maybe it's fate telling me that it's my time to go," Daniel suggested, "And if I'm voted out tonight, I don't want to leave my allies powerless."

"Daniel, you're not thinking this through," Karlie insisted.

"Trust me, I have," Daniel assured, "Look, I'm not giving up, but I'm not gonna get blindsided. I'm gonna vote for Spencer, and I need you to promise me that if I get voted out tonight, that you'll align yourself with Callie & Alina."

"Daniel..." Karlie began before being cut off.

"Promise me," Daniel ordered, "Just say that you promise."

"Okay....I promise," Karlie conceded.

"I messed up by not being there for Amalia; I don't want to drag her best friend down with me," Daniel insisted, "If I'm the one voted out tonight, I'm gonna go out the right way."

"Alright...but I'm gonna make sure that doesn't happen," Karlie declared as she got up and ran to the cabins.

"I don't know if Daniel is dead inside, if he gave up, or is just missing Amalia, but I'm not gonna let him leave yet. With Amalia gone, I need a partner going forward, and Daniel is my best bet. I've got to make a move, and hopefully it pays off."- Karlie

"Attention campers!" Chris called out from the loudspeakers, "It's time for the elimination ceremony! Make your way to the campfire area now!"

--------

The remaining eleven campers filed into the campfire area slower than usual. But it was understandable; they all were still a bit upset that Amalia was evacuated. Even though they were willing to step on each other on the road to a million dollars, they still cared for each other, and didn't want to see each other in pain. And after watching one person leave, it made it so much harder to have to vote a second person out.

"Well campers, today was a bit of a rough day," Chris remarked, "But still, the Observant Owls have to vote someone out tonight. However, I will not be sending anyone to Boney Island tonight."

"Can we volunteer?" Alina asked, raising her hand.

"Sorry Alina, but I think it's best if you all stay here for the night," Chris insisted, "And for the vote, it's the same as usual. You go into the Confession Can, x-out the photo of the person that you want to vote for, I'll check and tally the votes, and then I'll hand out marshmallows to those who are safe. Whoever doesn't receive a marshmallow will have to walk down the Dock of Shame and leave the island on the Jet Ski of Losers. Now go vote."

--------

"This is purely to split the vote. Hopefully you'll be focused on people more threatening than me."- Damien

"I've been told that this is the vote. Hopefully I can trust the people that I'm with."- Kavan

*complete silence*- Daniel

"I've always figured that I'd need to vote for you one day. If you stay, hopefully you aren't too upset."- Veronica

"You're a great guy, but I can't risk you coming after me. Sorry, dude."- Spencer

"I'm actually hoping that you go home tonight. I don't think that I can trust you."- Karlie

--------

"Well, after a rough day, it's time to reveal who is safe," Chris declared.

"Excuse me, Chris. I have something that I need to do," Spencer declared as he got up, walked over to Chris, and handed him his invincibility statue, "I think that I'm getting the votes tonight, so hopefully I'm making the right call."

This move shocked the majority of the campers. With this being the first invincibility statue played during this season, it set people on edge knowing that invincibility statues were in the game and had been found. By the reactions of the other members on the Observant Owls, they seemed surprised, yet oddly understanding.

"This is a genuine Chris McLean Head of Invincibility, so any votes cast for Spencer won't count," Chris declared, "But this time, although Spencer is safe, he didn't receive the majority of the votes."

"What?" Spencer asked, confused as to how he didn't get the majority of the votes.

"Spencer, Kavan, & Karlie, you three are safe," Chris announced as he tossed a marshmallow at each aforementioned camper, "Veronica, Daniel, & Damien, you three have each received at least one vote tonight."

Putting aside the fact that Spencer may have wasted his invincibility statue, the campers were intrigued at the three campers in Jeopardy. Veronica was worried; she knew that she was still a big target, and this could've been a clear opportunity to blindside her. Daniel was calm; he knew that he could be taken out, and seemed at peace with whatever fate had in store for him. Damien was arguably the most shocked; he figured that Spencer would be the one to receive votes instead of him, so this news made him feel extremely paranoid and concerned about what Chris would say next.

"The final marshmallows go to......Veronica..." Chris began as he tossed Veronica a marshmallow before pausing for dramatic effect, "And.........Daniel! Sorry Damien, but you're toast!"

"What.....?" Damien muttered as he turned around to face his team, "What the hell happened?"

"Yeah, mind answering that for me too?" Spencer requested, "What happened?"

"Just because you ask us to do something doesn't mean that we'll do it," Veronica reminded.

"Remember: you two were still on the bottom," Karlie reminded, "Amalia leaving doesn't change that."

"So you all lied to us," Damien concluded, "You all lied."

"It's the game," Kavan reminded, "We're supposed to lie."

"Daniel?" Spencer asked as he turned to face his former ally, "Anything to say?"

Daniel did nothing but shrug his shoulders. He knew that he wasn't the reason why the vote went the way that it did, and he didn't want to take credit for it, so he elected to stay silent. On another note, Spencer and Damien were likely looking to him for any sort of response in retaliation, and he decided to not give them that satisfaction.

"Wait, since Amalia left, can't I stay?" Damien asked, feeling hopeful.

"Sorry dude; ain't gonna happen," Chris answered, effectively wiping the smile from Damien's face, "It's time for you to go."

--------

Damien walked down the Dock of Shame silently, wanting to leave as respectably as he possibly could. As much as he wanted to confront his team to let them know that they were making a mistake, he knew that there was nothing that he could do to change anything. With that, he hopped onto the Jet Ski of Losers without a peep.

"Any last words?" Chef Hatchet asked before noticing no response from Damien, "Eh, fine."

As a result, Damien was launched into the distance, with Playa de Losers being his ultimate destination. As for Chris, he proceeded to send the remaining ten campers back to their rooms, leaving him to think over the past episode. It was easily the most unpredictable episode in a long time, and he was left to figure out how to bring the level of drama to an entertaining, yet not emotionally straining level.

"Well, with a sudden injury, a double elimination, and a blindside, this season just got a whole lot more intense," Chris commented as he talked to the main camera, "Will Spencer be able to recover after losing his closest ally? How will Amalia's evacuation alter the strategies in the game? And who will be voted out next? Find out next time, right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"

--------

"Last season was an emotional turmoil; I struggled with figuring out the difference between right and wrong, and I somehow ended up winning a million dollars. This season, I feel like I had a good sense of where I was in the game, and I end up leaving with a broken leg. I guess that shows that this game is unpredictable. But I'm hoping that Daniel & Karlie can join together and make it to the end. Karlie seems to be in a good spot, and if anyone has a shot of winning, it's Daniel. I won it for the both of us last season, and now it's his turn."- Amalia

"I'm dumbfounded right now. The one night that I thought that I was safe is the one night that I get voted out. I don't know how Veronica, Daniel, Karlie, & Kavan knew what Spencer & I had planned, but they got the better of us tonight. It sucks because I feel like Spencer wasted an invincibility statue that he could've used later on in the game. Personally, I hope he does well, but I don't know how long he can last. Man....it sucks being voted out, but there is still a bright side: I have a loving girlfriend waiting for me at Playa de Losers, and I'll be more than happy to see her."- Damien
