Episode 19: A Fiery Finale- The Final Challenge Pt.1
"Welcome back to the finale of Total Drama Double Trouble!" Chris welcomed, "Before the break, the eliminated campers each chose one of the final two campers to support for the upcoming challenge. And right now, they're going to find out what the final challenge will be."
--------
"Alright campers, it's time for the final challenge of the season," Chris declared, "But before we begin, each finalist gets to pick two campers from their 'cheering section' to assist them in the challenge. They can't win, but they can help in any way that they can."
"Question: how do we know that they're actually going to help?" Karlie asked, "What if one of them does what Daniel did last season?"
"I'm glad you asked that; after Daniel's change in allegiance during last season's finale, we added a new rule: The Daniel Trieu Rule," Chris admitted, "Now every eliminated camper is forced to stick with the finalist that they chose to support. And if they betray their finalist, they'll be fined $100,000, which I'm pretty sure none of you have. Except for Amalia & maybe Rhythm."
"As exciting as it would be to see betrayal by the eliminated campers, it's not fair to the final two campers, and I don't want to go through any more lawsuits. It's a lot easier to just make a new rule."- Chris
"Anywho...Callie, take a look at your cheering section," Chris ordered, causing Callie to look at her ten supporters, "Who will you pick to be your helpers?"
With that, Callie began thinking about who out of her ten supporters would be the best for her to pick. She automatically knew one person that she wanted to pick, but she had a little bit of difficulty trying to figure out who should be her second helper. While there was an obvious choice, she was hesitant to pick them.
"Chris...?" Callie muttered, a bit unsure, "You're sure that the people on my bleachers will help me?"
"Callie!" Daniel called out, causing Callie to turn to face him, "I'm not upset that you voted me out! You can trust me! Please pick me!"
"C'mon Callie; pick him!" Alina exclaimed, agreeing with Daniel, "Pick him for the same reason why you got rid of him: because he's strong!"
"Well..." Callie muttered, taking some time to think before smiling and announcing her decision, "Let's do it; I pick Alina & Daniel!"
"Yes!" Daniel cheered as him and Alina ran to hug Callie, "Thanks!"
"You guys are awesome..." Callie admitted honestly, smiling.
"Ever since I voted out Daniel, I've been scared that he would never forgive me for it. But seeing him eager to help me out pretty much confirms everything that I know about him; he's sweet, kind, and forgiving. He's pretty much my 'Total Drama Big Brother'."- Callie
"I've been by Callie's side this whole season; I'm not gonna turn my back on her for making a game move. She helped Amalia win a million dollars last season, and now it's time for me to help her win."- Daniel
"Alright then," Chris allowed, "Karlie, who will you pick?"
"I volunteer!" Veronica insisted, standing up from her seat.
"I was gonna pick you anyways," Karlie claimed, "And I might as well bring the entire package; I pick Veronica & Kavan; aka Vervan."
"Yes!" Veronica exclaimed as her and Kavan walked down to hug Karlie, "You won't regret this."
"I hope not..." Karlie remarked.
"I'm really happy that Karlie picked Roni & I; even though she was responsible for my blindside, she's done so much more for us earlier on in the game. She kinda deserves the win, and I'm ready to help her get it."- Kavan
"It was a no-brainer for me; Veronica & Kavan are really good physical competitors and they work well together. That kind of chemistry is exactly what I need to help me beat Callie."- Karlie
"Alrighty then. Interns!" Chris called out as three interns ran out from behind the cameras, "Lead the other campers to the waiting area."
"Where's the waiting area?" Karlie asked, curious.
"That's for them to know, not you," Chris retorted, "As for the six of you, follow Chef Hatchet to the Dock of Shame, and he'll take you to the starting line for today's challenge."
--------
The footage then cut to Chef Hatchet and the competing campers standing on a wooden platform surrounded by water. The platform was roughly square-shaped with sides 30ft in length, and was about half a kilometer from Camp Wawanakwa. This was the first time this season that the campers had to leave the main island for a challenge, so this left them quite intrigued.
"Chef!" Callie called out, "What are we supposed to do now?"
"You should probably wait for Chris, sweetie," Chef Hatchet replied, "Not my job to explain the challenges."
"It looks like we'll be doing a lot," Daniel commented as he looked at the two rowboats in front of them, "Each boat has a grappling hook, three shovels, and three waterguns."
Before any of the other campers could comment, the sound of a loud engine permeated the air. They first looked around at the surrounding water, expecting to see Chris riding in on a motorboat. But after seeing nothing, they looked up and saw Chris descending down from the sky with a jetpack. They all felt that it made sense; with Chris' admiration of himself, he had to make some sort of grand entrance.
"Hello campers!" Chris exclaimed as he landed on the platform and turned off his jetpack, "It's time for your final challenge: The Keys To Survival!"
"Looks like we're going on a scavenger hunt or something," Karlie commented as Chef Hatchet handed her and Callie a map of the island.
"Something like that," Chris confirmed, "On the map, there are three areas marked with 'x'. At those areas, you'll need to use the tools in your boat to obtain a key; Callie's keys are blue, and Karlie's keys are green. Once each finalist has obtained their three keys, you must go to the top of Wawanakwa Mountain, where you'll face one final task. The first finalist to complete that task will win the one million dollar prize."
"Sounds like you won't tell us the final task," Daniel noted.
"And I guess we're rowing back to the island," Veronica rationalized, turning to look at the boats.
"Yes, and yes," Chris confirmed, "But there's one twist."
With that line, Chef Hatchet began handcuffing the campers to one another. They were handcuffed in their respective groups: Callie was handcuffed to Alina by her right arm & to Daniel by her left arm, while Karlie was handcuffed to Veronica by her right arm and to Kavan by her left arm. While the campers wanted to resist, they knew that it was futile; Chris had to find a way to make the challenge more difficult, and this was his way of doing it.
"This is gonna be tough," Alina commented.
"Why'd you have to make it so hard, Chris?" Kavan asked.
"Did you forget what show you're on?" Chris asked rhetorically as he pulled out his airhorn, "Ready, set, GO!!!!!!"
Without hesitation, the six campers raced to get into their boats and began making their way towards the island. They all quickly noticed that there weren't any oars in their boats, so they had to find another way of propelling their boats. While there were many options to choose from, both teams settled on the same method.
"Catch!" Daniel warned as he tossed a shovel at Alina, which she caught, "You and I will paddle!"
"What do I do?" Callie asked.
"Hold your arms out so we can hold our shovels with both hands," Daniel instructed as Callie did as told, "Let's go!"
"C'mon!" Karlie ushered, shaking her arms in urgency, "They're already paddling!"
"We hear ya'," Kavan assured as he grabbed his shovel with two hands, "Forward paddle!"
"Isn't it 'forward march'?" Veronica asked.
"Well, we're paddling, not marching," Kavan pointed out.
"This is literally the least relevant conversation to have right now!" Karlie interrupted, "C'mon!"
Before long, both teams were successfully paddling their way back towards the island. Despite the fact that the campers were handcuffed to one another, both teams were still able to paddle their boat fairly quickly. Although, it quickly became clear that Karlie's team had more struggles. While Callie's team took care to make sure that they weren't hurting her by paddling, Karlie was getting pulled back and forth like a tug-of-war rope between Veronica & Kavan, slowing them down.
"We're falling behind!" Veronica exclaimed.
"Looks like we gotta paddle faster!" Kavan declared as he began speeding up his paddling motions.
"Can you do it without tearing me in half?" Karlie asked as she was flung back and forth between the couple.
"Being in the middle sucked. Not only was I unable to use my hands for anything, but I was constantly getting yanked back and forth as Veronica & Kavan paddled. It was very uncomfortable. But then I came up with an idea."- Karlie
"Wait, why don't we swim behind the boat and push it to the island?" Karlie suggested, "That way, we don't wear out our arms."
"But we're handcuffed!" Veronica reminded as she continued paddling.
"We push with our arms and kick with our feet!" Karlie explained, "It's not rocket science."
"That's actually a good idea," Kavan agreed, "My legs are stronger than my arms anyways."
While Veronica didn't want to deviate from the intended plan, she knew that she had to help Karlie in any way that she could. After all, they were falling behind; if they didn't change their strategy soon, they might lose before they even get to Wawanakwa Mountain. Thus, they dropped their shovels in the boat, leapt out, and began swimming.
"Don't even think!" Karlie insisted as the three of them began pushing the boat, "Just swim!"
"That water was cold AF. But as much as I wanted to jump back into the boat and dry off, I reminded myself that Karlie picked Roni and I to help her accomplish her goal of winning a million dollars. I didn't want to let her down and I wasn't ready to give up."- Kavan
Much to their surprise, their boat was a lot easier to push than they expected. With the combined force of the three of them swimming, they were able to make up a lot of ground on Callie's team. In fact, after only a minute of swimming, they were able to pass Callie's team. And despite Callie's team noticing this, they didn't change their strategy.
"They're passing us!" Callie pointed out, "How?"
"Looks like they're swimming," Alina commented as she stopped paddling, "We gotta do the same!"
"I'm not getting in that water!" Daniel insisted as he continued paddling.
"Daniel, we have to move faster!" Alina claimed, "If we swim, we'll be faster!"
"Remember the last time I jumped in cold water? I collapsed and ended up having to miss an immunity challenge and an elimination ceremony," Daniel reminded, "What happens if I jump in the water, get hypothermia, and lose consciousness? I'll drag you two down with me; not because I want to, but because we're handcuffed together!"
"He's right, Alina," Callie agreed, "We can't risk it."
"Even though I wanted to move quicker, I wasn't willing to put my friends' health at risk to do it. We were behind, but it was far from over; we just had to pick it up during the rest of the challenge."- Callie
--------
The footage then cut to the beach around the Dock of Shame, where Karlie, Veronica, & Kavan had just arrived after swimming nearly a quarter of a kilometer. After shaking themselves partially dry, they examined the beach, where they found two red 'x's in the sand with a sign by each 'x'. It didn't take long for the three of them to figure out what to do.
"Grab the shovels!" Kavan ordered before being pulled back by Karlie & Veronica.
"Uh....I can't exactly dig if I'm in the middle," Karlie noted, referring to her being double-handcuffed.
"But us two can, and that's good enough," Veronica claimed as she tossed Kavan a shovel before picking up one for herself, "Which one to we dig at?"
"Let's see..." Kavan muttered as he brought the three of them closer to the signs, "This one!"
Not wanting to waste any time, Veronica and Kavan began furiously digging at the 'x' marked for them by the sign. They had a lead, and they wanted to make sure that they used that advantage as much as possible. But after thirty seconds of digging, Callie's team reached the beach and were digging at their own 'x' as well.
"Looks like both teams are digging!" Chris narrated as he flew in with his jetpack, "It's neck-and-neck!"
"You hear that?" Kavan asked rhetorically as he sped up his digging speed, "We're losing our lead!"
"Less talking, more digging!" Karlie requested as she was continuously yanked back and forth by her two helpers.
"This is the finale; we can't take time to stop and lollygag. We have to fight harder than we've ever fought before. I told Veronica & Kavan to move fast, and they did just that."- Karlie
"Dig, lift, toss!" Daniel repeated as him and Alina moved in synchronicity.
"Are you alright, Callie?" Alina asked, wanting to make sure her friend wasn't getting injured by the movements of their handcuffed arms.
"I'm fine!" Callie assured as she moved her body with the rhythm of her friends' actions.
"I get that it's a race, but I didn't want to move too quickly; if we moved too fast, we were bound to make a mistake like.....getting someone injured. You know what they say: slow and steady wins the race."- Callie
While Callie's intentions were kind-hearted, it also caused her to fall further behind Karlie in the challenge. Callie, Alina, & Daniel were digging for only thirty seconds when Karlie, Veronica, and Kavan uncovered the object for which they were digging: a small wooden box with a key inside.
"Yes!" Kavan cheered as he thrust the key up into the air, "One down, two to go!"
"Hold on; give me that!" Veronica ordered as she grabbed the key from Kavan.
"What are you doing?" Karlie asked, confused.
"C'mon...." Veronica muttered as she attempted to unlock the handcuffs that kept her bound to Karlie, "C'mon....yes!"
"Nice!" Kavan praised as Veronica slipped out of her handcuffs, "Try mine!"
"On it," Veronica agreed as she raced to unlock the handcuffs binding Karlie & Kavan, "Karlie, where are we going next?"
"Let's see..." Karlie muttered as she pulled the map out of her back pocket and examined it, "We can either head to a marked tree in the forest or a building in the producers' area."
"Which one's closer?" Kavan asked.
"Um....the tree is closer," Karlie answered.
"Then we'll go there as soon as Roni unlocks us," Kavan declared.
"Ain't gonna happen," Veronica insisted, "This key doesn't unlock those cuffs."
"Well, we can't let that stop us," Karlie noted as she pulled Kavan towards her, "Follow me!"
With that, Karlie & Kavan took off towards the forest, with Veronica following them after grabbing the grappling hook and water guns from their boat. Despite their success, Callie, Alina, & Daniel didn't take their eyes away from the hole that they were digging. It wasn't until they uncovered their box that they noticed that their opponents had moved onto the next task.
"Where'd they go?" Callie asked, confused as to where Karlie, Veronica, & Kavan went.
"Don't know, don't care," Daniel replied as he attempted to unlock the handcuffs binding him to Callie.
"Is that the key for it?" Alina asked.
"Only one way to find out," Daniel noted as he unlocked his handcuffs and shrugged out of them, "Here: try the key on your handcuffs while I go and get the tools from our boat."
"Thanks," Alina thanked as she attempted to unlock the handcuffs binding her to Callie, "I don't think this is working."
"Aw..." Callie muttered, disappointed, "Well, at least we have one key."
"Did it work?" Daniel asked as he ran back to the duo with the coiled grappling hook around his neck and the waterguns in his left hand.
"Nope," Alina answered as she held up her and Callie's bound arms.
"Well, we've got to keep going," Daniel declared as he picked up the shovels with his right hand, "Alina, piggyback Callie; we're going to the producers' area."
Chris watched from the sky as Callie hopped on Alina's back and the two of them followed Daniel down the beach. It was clear to him that the two finalists made very good choices with regards to their helpers, assuring him that they deserved to make it this far and that this finale would be entertaining for all involved.
"Well, it seems like Karlie has the lead, but it doesn't look like Callie is going to give up anytime soon," Chris noted as the main cameras focused on him, "Who will come out on top? Find out who wins it all after the break, on the season finale of Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
