Episode 18: Up, Up, and Back Down Again...- Nighttime/Morning
"Last time on Total Drama Double Trouble..." Chris commented through a narration, "Having narrowly escaped elimination, Veronica used her time in the mini-mansion to form a new alliance with Daniel, who was pleased to have another ally."
*Shows shots of Veronica & Daniel talking in her room, and of the two of them laughing & shaking hands*
"But in the losers' cabin, Karlie got suspicious that her closest ally was becoming less loyal, and attempted to plant seeds of doubt in the minds of Callie & Alina. But the best friends were adamant, believing that Veronica was still their number one target."
*Shows shots of Karlie ranting to Callie & Alina, Callie & Alina talking to each other, and of Karlie looking annoyed*
"During the immunity challenge, all the campers had trouble balancing their spools. But in the end, a late mistake by Veronica allowed Daniel to win his second consecutive and third overall individual immunity challenge of the season."
*Shows shots of Karlie being apprehensive with her spools, Callie's tower of spools falling, Alina struggling to add spools, Veronica's tower of spools falling, Daniel cheering, and of Daniel receiving the Golden Marshmallow necklace from Chris*
"With the line drawn in the sand, Callie & Alina set their sights on Veronica: the last camper who wasn't a part of their alliance. Meanwhile, Veronica decided to target Callie: arguably the biggest social threat left in the game. Caught in the middle, Daniel & Karlie weighed out the pros & cons; Daniel pledged to follow Karlie's lead, leaving her with a very difficult decision to make."
*Shows shots of Callie & Alina talking to Daniel & Karlie, Veronica talking to Daniel & Karlie, Daniel promising to follow Karlie's lead, and of Karlie being stressed out*
"In the end, Karlie risked it all and voted for Callie, but Daniel stayed loyal to Callie & Alina, thereby casting the deciding vote against Veronica and sending her on a one-way trip to Playa de Losers."
*Shows shots of Karlie voting for Callie, Daniel smiling at Callie & Alina, Daniel voting for Veronica, and of Veronica riding away from the island on the Jet Ski of Losers*
"Four campers are left, each having taken a different path to be where they are now."
*Shows shot of Chris standing on the beach while narrating*
"Callie Northcott: she entered the game as Total Drama's sweetheart, quickly earning the loyalties of her fellow teammates. But as the days passed, she proved to be more than just a nice girl; she won individual immunity twice, orchestrated some blindsides, and even found an invincibility statue. But is it enough to earn her a spot in the final two and a chance at the million dollar prize?"
*Shows shots of Callie smiling innocently, her talking with her teammates, her savagely eating Juggy Chunks Fries, her getting submerged in beetroot tea, her voting for Ariton & Rhythm, her revealing an invincibility statue from under a wall, and of her running fingers over her shaved head*
"This season has been one big rollercoaster ride for me, but I never gave up. It's time for me to show everyone that I'm more than just a little sixteen year-old girl. It's all on me."- Callie
"Alina Lyon: entering as a new camper, she decided to lay low and not make too many people upset. And this earned her a reputation as a loyal ally and it allowed her to eliminate the others without putting a target on her back. With having no serious enemy at Playa de Losers, she has the potential to pull off a big upset if it comes down to a vote. Will her sneaky strategy end with her hoisting the million dollar prize above her?"
*Shows shots of Alina remaining silent in group discussions, her hugging Callie, her voting for Kavan & Veronica, the eliminated campers talking nicely about her, and of her thinking deeply*
"I may not have made many moves, but the moves that I did make got me to where I am now. I'm the underdog here, and it's time for this dog to get to the top of the pack. Let's do this."- Alina
"Karlie Zhao: she also started as a new camper, but she decided to play much more aggressively than some of the others. Coining the term 'riding the middle', she was able to be the swing vote at crucial points, and managed to blindside her targets while giving her fellow competitors no choice but to keep her around. Will her hard work reward her with the coveted million dollar prize?"
*Shows shots of Karlie with a determined expression, her voting for Annie & Rhythm, Spencer & Kavan leaving the island, her talking with Callie, Alina, & Daniel, and of her smiling mischievously*
"I've spent days and nights planning out my whole game to get me the victory; I'm not playing for second, I'm playing for first. Now's the time to show that I'm a force to be reckoned with. Watch out."- Karlie
"And Daniel Trieu: coming in as the most recent third place finisher, he worked hard to establish a reputation as a loyal alliance member and a challenge helper. But his game was rocked when his girlfriend was evacuated with an injury and when he was blindsided at the final eight. But since being voted back into the game, he hasn't lost a single immunity challenge and played a big role in the two recent eliminations. Will his dominance continue its run and propel him to the million dollars?"
*Shows shots of Daniel talking with his teammates, him holding up 220 pounds, him kissing Amalia while she was on a stretcher, him being voted out in episode 12, him running back onto the dock in episode 15, him running onto a slab, him stacking a spool tower, him voting for Zeyad & Veronica, and him praying with his head in his hands*
"I've been in the final four before; I know how it feels to make it so far and get cut at the last hurdle. I'm ready to make my move and ensure that history doesn't repeat itself. I want my happy ending."- Daniel
"Four campers are left; who will be voted out tonight? Find out right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
--------
The cameras first turned their attention to Callie's bedroom in the mini-mansion, where her and Daniel gathered to talk about the last elimination ceremony. For Callie, having narrowly escaped elimination, she was ready to affirm her loyalty to Daniel. For Daniel, he was ready to inform Callie that he was on her side, especially considering he just voted to save her.
"Thank you so much for inviting me!" Callie thanked as she laid down in her bed.
"Don't worry about it; it's a pleasure," Daniel assured as he tucked Callie into bed, "I enjoy talking with you."
"Hey, can I ask something?" Callie asked.
"Always," Daniel agreed, "Go ahead."
"Daniel, you know that I try to be honest with you at all times," Callie noted, "I want an honest answer: did you try to vote me out tonight?"
"Absolutely not; I voted out Veronica," Daniel answered honestly, "I wasn't going to betray you like that."
"When Daniel tells me that he didn't try to vote me out, I believe him. I'm sure that he told Karlie that he was on her side and all that, but the point is that he stayed loyal to me. And now, I'm hoping that he'll stay on my side and helps me vote out Karlie next."- Callie
"Yes, I did tell Karlie that I'd be voting for you, but I would never do it," Daniel assured as he sat down on a stool next to Callie's bed.
"Thanks," Callie thanked, smiling, "That means a lot."
"Y'know, I've broken my word to a few people in this game, but I know that I have to stay loyal to one person," Daniel admitted, "This season, that person is you. I want us to be in the final two."
"That's the truth: Callie and I making the final two is the best of both worlds. I stay loyal to a true friend/ally, and the odds of me winning the final challenge are still pretty good. But there's one thing standing in my way: Alina. I know that Callie would take Alina to the finale over me, so I've got to get rid of her ASAP."- Daniel
"Really?!" Callie asked.
"Absolutely," Daniel confirmed, "After all, we're arguably the two best players left in the game. It would make sense for us to be the final two."
"I'd really like that," Callie agreed, smiling widely, "Hopefully the next challenge is a physical one so one of us wins it."
"Makes sense to me," Daniel remarked, "The next question is: who should we take to the final three with us? Alina or Karlie?"
"I mean, Alina has been more loyal to you and me than Karlie has," Callie pointed out, "I think it's only fair to vote out Karlie next."
"If I can get to the final three with Alina & Daniel, I feel like I'm guaranteed a spot in the finale. But if I had to pick one, I'd pick Alina to join me in the finale because she's my best friend; I can't betray her. I just hope that Daniel takes it well. Aw....if I have to be the one vote him out, it's gonna be really hard..."- Callie
"We stayed loyal to our final four deal and got her here, but now we have to focus on ourselves," Callie noted, referring to Karlie, "She's just not as loyal as us two and Alina."
"That's a very good point," Daniel admitted, "It's gonna be difficult, but she's got to go."
"Time to turn this final four deal into a final three deal," Callie declared as she reached her left hand out towards Daniel.
"Couldn't agree more," Daniel agreed, smiling as he reached out and shook Callie's hand, "Well, I think it's time we get some sleep; we need energy if we're going to win immunity tomorrow."
"Right," Callie agreed as she turned onto her right side, "Goodnight!"
"Goodnight," Daniel replied as he left the room, shutting the door behind him, "Hmm.....I have no clue what's gonna happen next..."
"To be honest....I'm in a pretty bad spot. If I follow Callie's lead and vote out Karlie next, I have to win the final three immunity challenge in order to make it to the final two. And if I betray Callie and get Alina eliminated, Callie might feel betrayed enough that she'll team up with Karlie and take a shot at me. And on top of that, Karlie is probably upset that I didn't vote with her."- Daniel
--------
Daniel was correct in saying that Karlie was upset; what he didn't anticipate was how upset she was at his betrayal. She was furious that after weeks of working together, she still couldn't fully trust her closest ally. Having once again been denied the opportunity to stay in the mini-mansion, Karlie spent some time ranting to Alina in the female's side of the losers' cabin.
"He's throwing me under the bus!" Karlie exclaimed as she rapidly paced around the room.
"Karlie, can you chill out for a bit?" Alina requested as she sat on her bunk.
"How can I chill out when I can't trust anyone anymore?!" Karlie pointed out with her head in her hands.
"Now I get why backstabbing too many people is a bad thing; because when you get stabbed in the back by the people that you were loyal to, you have no one to turn to. I took my shot against Callie & Alina and now Daniel betrays me. I don't have anyone now!"- Karlie
"I mean, Daniel has to be after me now, and you and Callie probably hate me for not voting with you guys!" Karlie rationalized.
"Karlie, I don't hate you," Alina insisted.
"Ah, you're just saying that to be nice," Karlie claimed, "You're a nice girl."
"Thanks, but it's genuine; I don't hate you," Alina assured, "I think the same of you as I have before."
"Sure, Karlie is very untrustworthy and she also tried to vote out Callie. But at the same time...I can't think of a reason to vote her out. Before I say anything else, Callie is and will always be my first choice for the final two. But I want Karlie with me in the final three because I think she'd take me to the finale over Callie. At least then I have a good shot to win a physical or mental challenge."- Alina
"Believe it or not, I'm willing to put this all behind us and focus on the real task at hand," Alina admitted.
"Let me guess: you want to form an all-girls alliance and take a shot at Daniel," Karlie proposed, "If that's what the plan is, I'm down."
"Really?" Alina asked, surprised.
"Of course!" Karlie claimed, "Daniel's a physical, strategic, and popularity threat. He's pretty much guaranteed the million dollars if he makes it to the finale."
"I just didn't think that you hated him that much," Alina admitted, "What will Amalia think?"
"I hate Daniel in this game, but that's not gonna carry over to real life," Karlie explained, "Him and I will get along all fine and dandy back in Windsor. Or Waterloo. Or Mississauga; wherever the heck we see each other again. But my point is that Amalia will understand that it's a game move and not a personal one."
"I sure hope she does," Alina agreed as she laid back into her bunk, "Question: if you and Daniel end up being the final two, who do you think Amalia will pick to support?"
"I don't want to think about that," Karlie admitted as she laid on the bunk across from Alina, "But if I had to guess, she'd probably pick me and hope that Daniel will understand."
"Maybe," Alina commented, "So....is our alliance official?"
"Sure," Karlie agreed halfheartedly, "Tomorrow, I'll distract Daniel while you talk to Callie about it."
--------
The following morning, the two did as they planned. While Callie & Alina were talking on the beach, Karlie met Daniel in the living room of the mini-mansion. While the good night's sleep gave Karlie some time to calm down, she was still a bit peeved about Daniel's betrayal, and she was ready to use this time alone with him to let her feelings be known.
"What's up?" Daniel asked as he took a sip from his cup of coffee.
"I don't have to spell it out for you; I'm not happy about the last vote," Karlie noted, "I'd like to know what you can say to justify not splitting up Callie & Alina."
"I'm thinking about what's best for us; Veronica is capable of winning every single kind of challenge," Daniel claimed, "Now that she's gone, it opens the door for us to win immunity and ensure that no matter the scenario, we'll end up making it to the final two."
"I don't know if I want to go to the final two with Karlie anymore. Sure, she'd probably be easier to beat in a jury vote or a physical challenge than Callie, but I feel like Callie deserves to be in the finale more than Karlie. Callie has really grown a lot this season: she's become more strategic, more physical, and she's not letting anyone push her around. Based on that alone, she deserves a spot in the finale."- Daniel
"Then why did you say all that stuff about 'I'll follow your lead', y'know?" Karlie asked, confused.
"I didn't want you to feel like I was making decisions for you," Daniel insisted, "I was hoping that you would agree with me and vote for Veronica, but when you decided that you wanted to vote for Callie, I had to switch my vote without telling you."
"I get that Daniel's trying to come off all 'nice' and 'diplomatic'; the sad part is that I actually believe him. Outside of this game, the conversations that Daniel & I have had were genuine and real. He's probably telling the truth about wanting to make me feel included, but I'm still mad about it. Of course, he doesn't have to know about it."- Karlie
"Well, now we have to focus on getting rid of one of them next," Karlie declared, wanting to strategize, "If it's a double elimination, one of us has to win immunity and take the other one of us to the finale. If it's a normal elimination, we force a tie against one of them and pray that we win the tiebreaker."
"Above all, we need to make sure that one of us wins immunity," Daniel emphasized, "Makes it easier to target one of them."
"Campers! It's time for the next immunity challenge!" Chris called out through the loudspeakers, "Make your way down the path behind the mini-mansion and follow the signs!"
"Well, it's time to make it happen," Karlie declared as she stood up from her seat, "Let's go."
--------
After ten minutes of walking down the path behind the mini-mansion and following the half-dozen signs on some of the trees, the four remaining campers managed to make their way to the challenge site. It was familiar to all of them; it was the building in the production camp where they competed in the dress-up challenge, the blackjack challenge, and the eating challenge. The campers barely had time to think about what the challenge would be before they saw Chef Hatchet standing on top of the building while wearing a pink dress.
"Oh no!" Chef Hatchet exclaimed, clearly acting, "I'm gonna fall!"
"Don't worry, damsel in distress!" shouted a man dressed in all gold-clothing with a gold-coloured bandana wrapped around his head, "The Gemmy God will save you!"
With that, the man (clearly Chris McLean) ran up to the building and held his arms out to catch the 'damsel in distress' as 'she' fell. But due to the damsel's heavy weight, The Gemmy God only succeeded in being crushed by the damsel, causing the four spectating campers to laugh. After having to go through weeks of physical and mental-stretching challenges, to see Chris and Chef Hatchet feel a little bit of pain was a bit rewarding for them.
"Get off of me!" Chris exclaimed as Chef Hatchet stood up, allowing Chris to stand up, "This is why we don't add acting bits before the actual challenges anymore."
"My bad," Chef Hatchet commented.
"What's with the get-up, Chris?" Karlie asked, confused.
"It's all for today's 'superhero-themed' challenge," Chris assured, "We like to call it: Total Drama: Comic Edition!"
"I don't read many comic books. It's not really my thing."- Daniel
"When I saw Chris wearing a superhero costume, I got excited, but I thought back to the TDA challenge when the campers had to make their own outfits and become superheroes. But it didn't turn out to be what I was expecting."- Alina
"To be a classic superhero, you must have impressive physical and mental strengths," Chris noted, "You'll run this challenge one at a time. In that building is a 90" television screen, a podium with a green button on it, a podium with a red button on it, a comic display board next to the TV, and a stack of 'Total Drama Comics' next to the board. For this challenge, you'll start by pressing the green button to turn on the TV and reveal a picture of eighteen comic books on a display board. But beware, the board will only be visible for three seconds before the picture disappears. Your goal is to put the comics on the display board in the same order as they appear in the picture. But watch carefully: there are doubles of each comic book in the stack with little details changed. Once you think that you have the correct comic books in the correct order, go and press the red button. If you hear a bell, you're done. If you hear a buzzer, you've made a mistake and you must go back and fix it. The camper who completes the challenge in the fastest time will win immunity."
"Another memory challenge..." Callie noted, "Not my strength..."
"Just try your best, Callie," Alina encouraged as she tapped her best friend on her left shoulder.
"I really hope that you guys try for this one," Chris admitted, "Because by the end of the night, two of you will be gone."
That announcement changed the mood of the entire challenge. All four campers realized that this challenge would technically decide which two of them would advance to the finale. While they all were internally panicking, they all began mentally preparing themselves for the challenge. If they wanted to win, the time to show up was now, and they all knew it.
"Whoever has the slowest time in the challenge will automatically be eliminated," Chris declared, "And whoever wins immunity gets to choose which of the two remaining campers to advance to the finale with them."
"The last memory challenge that I competed in didn't go so well. I don't know if I'll win, but I have to try; I'm not ready to give up after everything that's happened."- Callie
"I'm the only camper left in the game who hasn't won an individual immunity challenge yet. And I can't think of a better time to win one than right now."- Alina
"For once, I'm actually worried that I could be voted out tonight. Even though Daniel keeps on promising that he'll take me to the final two, he might stab me in the back and take Callie instead. I have to win this challenge to ensure that I get to the finale."- Karlie
"Last season, I made one huge mistake in the final four challenge; if I won that challenge, I would've made it to the final two and I might've even won. I'm not gonna make the same mistake this time; it's time to get my 'Immunity Challenge Turkey'."- Daniel
"I'll let you know the order that you'll compete in after I do this," Chris declared as he turned to face the main cameras, "Which camper will earn the great power known as individual immunity? And which campers will have the responsibility of having to ride the Jet Ski of Losers? Find out after the break, right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
