Episode 18: Up, Up, and Back Down Again...- Downtime/Elimination

"Welcome back to Total Drama Double Trouble!" Chris welcomed as the cameras panned in on the beach, "Before the break, Callie locked up a spot in the final two, while Alina: her closest ally, booked a spot on the Jet-Ski of Losers. With only one spot left in the finale, Daniel & Karlie will surely scramble to make sure that spot belongs to them. Let's take a look at what the four remaining campers are up to."

--------

The cameras first turned to the male's side of the losers' cabin, where Karlie joined Daniel to talk about the last challenge. With neither of them placing first nor last in the challenge, Callie had to choose which one of them would join her in the finale. For the two allies, the knowledge that one of them wasn't going to the finale was a hard thing to address, but they both accepted it.

"That was a crazy challenge," Karlie commented as she leaned against one of the walls of the cabin.

"Tell me about it," Daniel agreed as he laid down in a bunk, "I can't believe my time was over twenty-four minutes!"

"I'm extremely disappointed in myself; that challenge was for me to win, and I blew it. But maybe this is for the best; now that Callie has to make the decision, she can get rid of Karlie for me, and I get no blood on my hands."- Daniel

"Don't take it so hard," Karlie insisted, "I made no mistakes and I still finished slower than Callie."

"She did really well today," Daniel commented, "I guess we should've expected it."

"How could we?" Karlie asked rhetorically, "This is the first time she did well in a memory challenge."

"Callie becomes more and more surprising the longer that this season goes on. But that's good for me; now that she's in power, I might be able to convince her to vote out Daniel instead of me. Sure, she's loyal to a fault, but if Rhythm could convince Amalia to betray Daniel last season, I'm pretty sure I could do it this season."- Karlie

"Would've been cool if the two of us were in the finals," Daniel commented, "I guess it wasn't meant to be."

"Yeah, I guess so..." Karlie agreed, "Y'know, I'm gonna be honest: if I won the final challenge, I would've taken Callie. Sorry..."

"Don't be," Daniel requested, "I would've taken her too."

"Really?" Karlie asked as the two of them laughed, "Why? Just wondering."

"A couple reasons," Daniel admitted, "For one, I wouldn't want Amalia to have to choose between the two of us when she has to pick who to support."

"True," Karlie agreed, "That did go through my mind at least once."

"Well...what's next for us?" Daniel asked, "Are we going to run to Callie and stab each other in the back to get her to take us to the finale?"

"When you put it like that, it sounds evil," Karlie admitted, to which the two of them chuckled.

"How about this?" Daniel began as he sat up in his bunk, "We each get to talk with Callie by ourselves; we can say and do whatever we want to get Callie to take us to the finale. And in the end, we'll still be friends."

"So it's like being friends with benefits," Karlie rationalized, "Except it's with betrayal instead of sex."

"I'll kindly request that you don't refer to us as 'friends with benefits'," Daniel requested kindly, "Amalia isn't going to like that even if it has nothing to do with romance."

"Fine," Karlie agreed before turning to face the camera that was filming them, "Amalia, don't worry; this guy is all yours."

"Can we just agree on this?" Daniel requested as he reached out his right hand, "We can betray, and stay friends."

"Deal," Karlie agreed as she shook hands with Daniel, "Do you want to go first?"

"You can go first if you want," Daniel offered, "It doesn't matter to me."

"Alright, I'll go first," Karlie declared as she went to leave the room, "Hopefully Callie doesn't mind."

--------

While Daniel and Karlie made their deal, Callie & Alina were watching the movie 'Frozen' in the living room of the mini-mansion. With Alina set to leave in a short period of time, they wanted to spent as much time as they could with each other. Although, neither of them could forget the fact that Callie had a huge decision to make; a decision that could be the difference between her winning a million dollars and her leaving with only $100,000.

"It's gonna be weird not having you competing next to me," Callie admitted.

"Hey, even though I won't be going to the finale with you, I'll still support you as much as I can," Alina assured, "When the eliminated campers have to pick who they're siding with, I'll be 100% on your side."

"Thanks!" Callie thanked.

"I really wanted Alina and I to be the ones competing in the finale. But I guess we made it pretty far together; we were the last duo left in the game for a while. And now that I can't take Alina, I have to choose between Daniel & Karlie. At this point, it's obvious to me."- Callie

"By the way, I've been thinking about who I should take to the finale," Callie revealed.

"I was hoping you would," Alina admitted, "You know what to do, right?"

"Of course!" Callie assured as she laid back into her seat on the couch, "I'm gonna take Daniel to the finale."

"WHAT?!" Alina exclaimed, shocked beyond belief, "Really?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Callie asked, confused, "He's been loyal to me the whole game; I owe it to him to be equally loyal."

"Callie's best quality is also her worst quality: she's loyal to a fault. She's dependable, but it makes her vulnerable to making wrong decisions. Even if taking Daniel to the finale is the morally correct thing to do, I can't let her do that."- Alina

"He is the biggest threat left in the game!" Alina noted, "If you take him to the finale, you're going to have a really tough time beating him."

"That's how a finale should be!" Callie claimed, "The people that make it to the finale should be the campers who performed the best over the course of the season; which in this case, should be Daniel and I."

"Callie, you've played such a good game this season; I don't want to see you lose when you're so close to winning it all," Alina exclaimed, "If you take Daniel to the finale, the odds are against you. And even though you're my friend and I support you, if I had to bet my life savings on who would win between you & Daniel, I'd bet on Daniel."

"Alina, you've known me for two years; you know that winning doesn't mean the world to me," Callie noted, "Loyalty is everything to me; I'd rather lose to Daniel than win against Karlie."

"This is the first time in a while that Alina and I haven't been on the same page. I get that she wants to give me the best chance to win the million dollar prize, but I don't think I want to win if I can't win against a formidable competitor."- Callie

"Hey!" Karlie called out from the doorway, "Mind if we talk for a bit?"

"Looks like you didn't lock the door," Alina joked, referencing Daniel's preference for a locked door.

"Whatever," Callie replied, chuckling as she turned to face Karlie, "Sure! Come have a seat!"

"Thanks," Karlie thanked as she took a seat next to Callie, "Now, you obviously know why I'm here: I'm going to explain why it's better if you take me to the finale over Daniel."

"One reason why I wanted to keep Daniel in the game was because he's such a big threat; if people were going to target us, they'd go after him before me. My goal with talking to Callie is to convince her that she needs to vote out Daniel to stay true to herself."- Karlie

"Good luck," Alina advised, "I'm having trouble doing that."

"So you're saying I have no chance?" Karlie asked, slightly annoyed.

"I mean, you can try to convince me," Callie allowed, "But I don't know what you can say to change my mind."

"Callie, from my perspective, you've played a very loyal game," Karlie admitted, "Would you agree with that?"

"Yeah," Callie agreed, nodding.

"Compared to you, I haven't played very loyal; I've backstabbed a lot of people in this game," Karlie admitted, "But through it all, I stayed loyal to someone. Do you know who that is?"

"Daniel?" Callie guessed.

"Nope; every second that I'm in this game, I'm staying loyal to my family," Karlie answered, "Every blindside, vote, and betrayal was to make my family happy."

"Uh....how?" Callie asked, confused.

"I came here to win the money for my family, and I was ready to do whatever I had to do to win," Karlie explained honestly, "I didn't want to have to betray so many people, but I knew that it was what I had to do to give me a better chance to win for my family."

"See! That's morals!" Alina pointed out, "Right, Callie?"

"Hold on," Callie requested, "Yeah, I believe you. But what about Daniel? Do you think he isn't playing for his family?"

"Look, even if they don't admit it, every camper that comes to the island plays for their family; that includes me, Daniel, and you," Karlie answered, "You're not just playing for yourself; you're playing for your mom, your dad, and any other family members that you want to win for. Right?"

"Well...I guess..." Callie agreed.

"If you lose the final challenge, you aren't just letting yourself down; you're letting your family down," Karlie insisted, "And I don't even have to tell you how difficult it would be to beat Daniel in the finale, right?"

"Yeah..." Callie admitted reluctantly.

"Exactly; he's won three individual immunity challenges; the same amount as you," Karlie reminded, "You're better off taking me to the finale because I've only won one individual immunity challenge."

"Also, if the final challenge is a jury vote, you'll get a lot of votes because Karlie has backstabbed a lot of the eliminated campers," Alina added.

"True that," Karlie agreed, "So, what do you think, Callie?"

"I think I've heard enough," Callie declared, "Please go tell Daniel to come and talk to me."

"Alright, sure," Karlie agreed as she got up and left the mini-mansion.

"That's it; Daniel told me to do whatever I had to do to get Callie to take me to the finale, and I tried my hardest to do that. Hopefully I made Callie think about her family back home and to value the money over her morals."- Karlie

"Hi guys!" Daniel greeted as he hopped onto the couch, taking a seat next to Callie, "I guess it's my turn to convince you to take me, right?"

"Yeah," Callie agreed, chuckling.

"I'm reasonably convinced that Callie is going to take me to the final two, so I don't want to campaign too seriously; I don't want her to think that I don't trust her. All I'm going to do is remind her of all the good things that we shared this season, and hope that she'll stay loyal and take me to the finale."- Daniel

"I don't really know what I need to say," Daniel admitted, "I guess I'l start with: I've been loyal to you through this entire game. I saved you with an invincibility statue, I gave you one to use, and I even gave up my spot in the game for you back at the final 8."

"That's true," Callie confirmed, "And I'm grateful for that. Thank you."

"No problem," Daniel assured, "Now, your game has been centered around loyalty. You're probably the most loyal person to ever appear on Total Drama."

"Aww..." Callie muttered, blushing, "Really?"

"It's true; you're extremely loyal, and you've shown it with your loyalty to Alina and myself," Daniel noted, "And by taking me to the finale, it shows all the eliminated campers that you are the Callie Northcott that everyone knows you to be: kind, loyal, and reliable."

"Thanks, again," Callie thanked before turning to face Alina, "See? He agrees with me."

"Daniel, would you mind leaving the two of us alone for a bit?" Alina requested.

"Sure; I've said everything that I can say anyways," Daniel agreed as he got up and headed towards the door, "See ya!"

"See ya!" Callie replied, turning to face Alina as Daniel left the room, "See? How can I vote him out when he's so nice to me?!"

"It's not going to be easy, but it's what you need to do!" Alina insisted, "As your best friend, I want what's best for you; you know that, right?"

"Yeah..." Callie confirmed.

"Come here," Alina requested as she brought Callie into her embrace, "When we left, your mom told you something. What did she tell you?"

"Don't..." Callie began, pausing before continuing, "Don't do anything stupid..."

"Exactly; and taking Daniel to the finale is a stupid move," Alina claimed, "You know it, I know it, Daniel knows it, and everyone watching knows it."

As Alina continued ranting about how Daniel going to the finale was a bad thing, Callie simply contemplated the decision that she had to make. She had to choose between winning and her morals. While she wanted to believe that she had a great chance of winning against Daniel, she couldn't deny that Daniel was a physical and mental threat. And even though she just beat Daniel in the last immunity challenge, she figured that if he didn't mix up his & Amalia's comics, he would've won instead of her.

"I....don't know..." Callie admitted, "I really don't know..."

"Campers! It's time for the final elimination ceremony of the season!" Chris announced through the loudspeakers, "Please head to the Dock of Shame immediately!"

"Callie, trust me: your best friend," Alina pleaded, "You have to make the right choice!"

"It's amazing how things can change in such a short period of time. Less than thirty minutes ago, I was set on bringing Daniel with me to the finale, but now I'm really unsure. It's a lot tougher than I thought it would be; do I play by my morals and take Daniel to the finale, or do I play for the money and take Karlie? It's tough. It's really tough..."- Callie

--------

Before long, all four campers were present on the Dock of Shame, ready for the final elimination ceremony. In contrast to last season, everyone shared a common trait: nervousness. Daniel & Karlie were nervous that they were going to be voted out and Callie & Alina were worried that the former was going to make the wrong choice. With a million dollar prize on the horizon, everyone (with the exception of Alina) was worried that the one remaining decision would rob them of it.

"Alright campers, it's time for the final elimination ceremony. We already know that Alina is out, but Callie still has one more decision to make," Chris declared as he motioned for Callie to stand next to him, which she did, "Callie, who are you voting out: Daniel or Karlie?"

Callie took a look at the three campers in front of her, each acting differently from one another. Alina nodded with her eyes opened widely, sending the message to Callie that she needed to make the strategically correct decision. Daniel smiled with his hands behind his back, hoping to put on a face of confidence. Karlie had her eyes closed while keeping her fingers crossed, mentally praying for Callie to take her to the finale. All of their actions made the decision much harder for Callie to make, but she settled on a decision, and she hoped that it was the right one to make.

"I just want to say that after I make my choice, I want to explain myself," Callie prefaced, "With that...I'm really sorry, but I'm voting out..........Daniel."

That declaration shocked everyone else in the vicinity. Alina was caught aback by the choice, even though she was hoping for this outcome. Karlie managed to get the most loyal camper of the season to betray a close ally, but she couldn't help but feel bad for Daniel. But everyone's eyes were on Daniel, who had a shocked expression, which was subsequently hidden by him throwing his face into his hands.

"Daniel, I really hope that you and I can stay friends; I love you as a friend, and I'm grateful for all that you did for me this season," Callie insisted, "But I have to play this game for my family; they're counting on me to win, and I need to give myself the best chance to win. I'm really sorry."

With Callie's speech done with, everyone switched their view to Daniel, who still had his head in his hands. Even though Callie made a proper explanation, it certainly didn't take away from the sting of being voted out in third. And with Daniel becoming the first camper in Total Drama history to be voted out in third place two seasons in a row, that sting was doubled. After a few seconds of waiting, Daniel removed his hands from his face, revealing a slight smile.

"Y'know....I can't blame you; that was the right choice," Daniel admitted, surprising Callie, "I guess tonight was my night. Congrats to you two."

"Thanks," Karlie thanked as she fistbumped Daniel.

"Daniel..." Callie muttered before running into him and hugging him tightly, "I'm soooooooooo sorry!"

"Callie, don't be sorry; you did what you had to do," Daniel claimed, "Don't blame yourself for this. You're a great player and you deserve to be in the final two."

"Exactly," Alina agreed as she joined the group hug.

"I guess I'll join too," Karlie conceded, chuckling as she joined the hug.

"I feel....soooooooooo bad! I literally stabbed one of my closest allies in the back, and he doesn't even seem upset! I.....I can't believe I just did that! W-what's happening to me...? Am I a bad person?! Am I?!!!" *starts crying*- Callie

"Alright, it's time for Daniel & Alina to leave," Chris declared, forcing Daniel & Alina to walk down the Dock of Shame, "Get on the Jet-Ski of Losers."

"How is this gonna work?" Daniel asked as he sat on the Jet-Ski of Losers, with Alina sitting behind him.

"Like this," Chris answered as Chef Hatchet handcuffed Daniel to the Jet-Ski of Losers and Alina to Daniel, "See ya!"

With that, Chris activated the Jet-Ski of Losers, sending Daniel & Alina away from the island. As Chris walked back down the Dock of Shame, he noticed the two finalists in an emotional embrace. Overwhelmed by her big move, Callie was crying into Karlie's shirt as the latter held hugged her for comfort. With such a large display of emotion from the final two, that told Chris that this season's finale would be one to remember.

"We have our finalists!" Chris declared as he pulled the remaining two campers towards him, "Who will take home the million? Will it be Callie? Or will it be Karlie? Find out next time on the finale of Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"

--------

"I really can't be disappointed; placing fourth on one of the biggest reality television shows in Canada is a huge accomplishment. I played a good social game and I made a few big moves. Sure, I didn't have a perfect game; I wasn't that good at challenges, but I surely tried. I was in control of my own fate in the final challenge and I just couldn't come up with a win. But I enjoyed my experience here and it was worth the six weeks of hard work. To Callie: I know that you have it in you to win, and you know that I'll be praying for you. You can do it!"- Alina

"I'm starting to feel like I'm destined to place third; maybe I'll get third place if I come back for another season." *chuckles* "But jokes aside, I'm not upset at my gameplay; I did pretty well despite all the setbacks. I was hit hard when Amalia was evacuated, but that sadness and anger gave me the motivation to fight hard to try and win, and I almost did it. I don't blame Callie for her choice; if I made it to the finale, it wouldn't have been an easy battle for her. She made the right call and it's all a part of the game. I knew that coming in and I'll accept it going out."- Daniel
