Episode 14: Watching In Paradise- Checking In
"Last time on Total Drama Double Trouble..." Chris began through a narration, "Daniel's elimination left everyone with mixed emotions and hard feelings to swallow."
*Shows shots of Veronica pacing around the losers' cabin, Kavan with his head in his arms, Alina laying on her bunk, Callie wiping away tears, and of Karlie thinking deeply*
"Deeply hurt by the loss of a close ally, and armed with one of Daniel's invincibility statues, Callie went off on Dallas. But the villainess remained unphased as Callie was eventually dragged out of the argument."
*Shows shots of Callie crying, receiving Daniel's invincibility statue, confronting Dallas, Dallas laughing, and of Callie being carried away by Alina*
"During the immunity challenge, the campers acted like little kids as they tore apart cakes in an attempt to spell the longest word. Callie stayed true to her morals, Kavan couldn't find a T, and Alina found multiple Ts. But Veronica's 'suffix strategy' was the icing on her cake as she spelled 'Parliamentary' to win immunity for herself."
*Shows shots of the campers tearing apart cakes, the campers placing letters on their cake stands, Callie spelling 'Curing', Kavan spelling 'Baller', Alina spelling 'Attractant', Veronica spelling 'Parliamentary', and of Veronica receiving the Golden Marshmallow necklace*
"With their games on the line, Callie & Alina worked hard to convince Karlie & Zeyad to help them blindside Dallas, their shared enemy. But Veronica, Kavan, and Dallas attempted to convince the two of them to split their votes between Callie & Alina, one of the last original duos left in the game, leaving the two swing voters with a difficult decision."
*Shows shots of Callie & Alina talking to Karlie & Zeyad, Veronica, Kavan, & Dallas talking to Karlie & Zeyad, and of Karlie & Zeyad discussing their options*
"In the end, both Karlie & Zeyad jumped ship, but convinced Callie & Alina to help them blindside Kavan, sending one of the biggest physical threats out of the game, and leaving Veronica & Dallas alone and uncertain of their future."
*Shows shots of Karlie, Zeyad, Callie, & Alina voting for Kavan, Kavan riding away on the Jet Ski of Losers, and of Veronica & Dallas looking worried*
"But for this episode, we take a break from the game; I'm gonna give you a view into what the eliminated campers go through after being voted out. Where did they go? How do they feel about their time in the game? And what are their thoughts on the remaining campers?"
*Shows shots of Chris talking on the beach, talking by a totem pole, talking outside the communal washrooms, and talking in the campfire area*
"Find out all of that right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
--------
With the conclusion of the title sequence, the cameras turned to focus on an average-sized island, most of which consisted of a luxury, five-floor resort. The top four floors contained the bedrooms for the eliminated campers; they were roughly the same quality as the bedrooms in the mini-mansion on the main island. The first floor was a common area, with the main amenities being a living room with leather couches & a 90" television, an indoor spa with professional estheticians, a game room with a billiards and poker table, and a dining room & kitchen with a professional chef.
Outside the resort, there were more luxuries that the eliminated campers could enjoy. There was a 30ft x 10ft, rectangular swimming pool, a 15ft-diameter, circular hot tub, a 10ft x 10ft cold tub, an outdoor bar, a tile walkway around the island, a calm beach area with chairs, and a greenery area with tall trees, among others. Everyone there had something to do, and they certainly weren't too upset to be there.
"Welcome to Playa de Losers: the all-inclusive luxury resort where our campers are sent after being voted out of the game to lick their wounds and accept their fates as reality show 'has-beens'."- Chris
*Shows shots of the resort, Daniel & Amalia relaxing beside the pool, Cole being pampered in the spa, and Tory & Annie making out in the pool*
--------
Contrary to Chris' beliefs, being 'reality show famous' wasn't at the forefront of anyone's minds. Now that they were out of the game, they were able to lay back, relax, and enjoy their time in paradise while they could. For Ariton & Kavan, they were very eager to do just that. Since he was voted out, Ariton spent most of his time at Playa de Losers alone, mostly because he didn't know anyone; he did talk to Daniel a bit, but he was preoccupied with helping Amalia with her broken leg. It wasn't until Kavan arrived on the island that Ariton had someone to talk (and drink) with.
"Bartender!" Ariton called out as he sat at the bar next to Kavan, "Absolut Mandrin Punch: on the rocks!"
"And a Lemon Splash Martini for me, please," Kavan requested nicely.
"A martini?" Ariton asked, unsure if he heard Kavan correctly, "Dude, you're getting soft."
"Cut me a bit of slack; I just got voted out," Kavan pointed out.
"Even more of a reason to drink harder," Ariton noted.
"Coming from the guy who preaches 'healthy eating equals healthy living'," Kavan noted as the bartender served him and Ariton.
"Thanks," Ariton thanked before taking a sip of his drink, "It's the off-season and my vacation; I can afford to give in a little bit."
"Hey, here comes Chris," Kavan noted as Chris walked up to the duo.
"Well, campers, how are you enjoying Playa de Losers?" Chris asked.
"It's better than the actual camp," Kavan admitted, smiling.
"Thanks for hooking us up with the bar, Chris," Ariton thanked before taking another sip of his drink.
"I knew that you two were bound to like it," Chris admitted, "Just don't give any to anyone under nineteen, or else I'll have to go under another round of lawsuits."
"Don't have to tell me twice," Ariton assured.
"Now guys, I need you to think back on your time in the game," Chris declared, "How well do you think you did?"
"I was robbed," Ariton insisted, "I could've won if I made it to the merge."
"Dude, the team didn't like you," Kavan reminded, "That's your fault."
"I could've helped the team win challenges," Ariton insisted, "And aside from the wine challenge, my team couldn't win anything without the challenge being thrown to them or someone getting injured."
"It's more than just a physical game; it's a strategic and social game too," Chris noted, "And you, Kavan?"
"Well, I really enjoyed being in the game," Kavan admitted, "I got a chance to meet some cool people, I spent some time with my girlfriend, and I got to compete in challenges that pushed me towards my limits. It was good."
"Alright then," Chris remarked, "Now the big question: would you want to come back to compete in a future season?"
"Honestly, looking at what it takes to win, I don't know if I can force myself to be as strategic or social as some of the guys who are left," Ariton admitted, "I don't think I'll come back."
"I don't think I played a bad game; it just wasn't my time," Kavan admitted, "I wouldn't mind coming back in the future, but I not really eager to come back right now."
"Really?" Chris asked, intrigued, "What if Daniel comes back for another season?"
"Total Drama is Daniel's thing, not ours," Ariton insisted, "And he'd probably want to come back with Amalia. We're not gonna get in his way of that."
--------
The two of them weren't entirely wrong; with their actions during this season and last season, it was clear that Daniel & Amalia wanted to spent a lot of time together. In fact, once Daniel arrived at Playa de Losers, the two of them hardly left each other's side. With Amalia nursing a broken leg, they both did what they could to enjoy each other's company without moving around too much. Right now, they were laying down on beach chairs by the pool, wanting to take in the sunlight.
"Isn't this relaxing?" Daniel asked.
"It's about as relaxing as it can possibly be," Amalia remarked as she adjusted the position of her left leg, "Ow..."
"Need anything?" Daniel asked, sensing that Amalia needed help.
"Nah, it's alright," Amalia assured as she laid back into her chair, "Just a bit of 'healing pain'."
"Remember: if you need anything, I'll be here," Daniel reminded as he took a sip of his glass of iced tea.
"I know; you've been telling me that ever since you got here," Amalia pointed out, causing both of them to laugh.
"Greetings, Amaniel," Chris greeted as he walked up to the couple, "Having fun here at Playa de Losers?"
"Always good, Chris," Daniel commented before taking a sip of his drink, "At least I get to stay here for more than just a couple days this time."
"Same; I finally have some time to rest," Amalia agreed, "At least I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
"Oh yeah: Amalia, the show will be covering your medical bills," Chris revealed.
"You better be," Daniel insisted, "It's the least you could you considering our contracts prevent us from suing you over this."
"Hey, I gotta cover my own behind too," Chris noted, "Next question: how well do you think you did this season?"
"I guess I could've done better; I got screwed by the luck of the mechanic race," Daniel noted, "But eighth is still fine. I left with all my pride."
"You definitely should be happy; my time was cut too damn short," Amalia noted, "I could've made it far if I didn't break my leg."
"I'm sure you could've," Chris admitted, "And one more question: would either of you two want to come back for a future season?"
"Absolutely, Chris," Daniel answered quickly, "I really enjoyed being here. You can count on it."
"Same here," Amalia agreed before patting her cast, "Although I'm gonna have to wait until my leg heals."
"I hope so," Chris expressed whilst pulling at his shirt collar, "For the show's sake, I hope that is hasn't 'inconvenienced' you too much."
"I mean, I can't walk properly, I can't stand for too long, and I can't go swimming," Amalia noted, "But I guess it could be worse."
"I wouldn't want to go swimming anyways," Daniel admitted as he pointed to Tory & Annie kissing in the pool, "It's kinda occupied right now."
--------
Ever since Tory & Annie were reunited at Playa de Losers, the two of them remained as close as they were when they weren't on the show. Despite the rumor of Spencer having a crush on Annie, that didn't deter them from loving each other. Or at the very least, that didn't stop them from making out with each other in the pool like Geoff & Bridgette did in the very first season.
"Love ya," Annie remarked as she pulled away for a bit.
"Love you too," Tory replied, smiling.
"Hold on one sec," Annie requested as she Tory let go of her, allowing her to splash the cameramen filming them, "Pervs! Don't you have something better to do than film us making out?!"
"Hey! Don't splash the cameras!" Chris ordered, "They cost a lot!"
"You're lucky that I didn't smash them," Annie muttered under her breath before rejoining Tory.
"We'll take care, Chris," Tory assured.
"I hope so," Chris admitted, "Now, are you two enjoying Playa de Losers?"
"This is paradise at its finest," Tory assured, "Can't find a place like this back in Winnipeg."
"If a place like this existed back home, I'd be going here as often as I could," Annie admitted, "But this would probably cost a fortune to stay in."
"This cost a fortune to build; more than the grand prize, actually. Which is why we rent this place out when we don't film here," Chris admitted, "Question 2: how well do you think you did this season?"
"I definitely didn't do as well as I would've wanted to," Tory admitted, "Looking back, I guess I could've focused a bit more on socializing instead of strategizing."
"I guess I could say the same thing, although I really think that I was robbed," Annie claimed, "I could've made it far if Karlie didn't flip on me."
"Coulda', shoulda' woulda', whatever," Chris mocked, "And for a bigger question: would you want to return and compete for a future season?"
"Anytime, anywhere," Tory claimed, "I'd love to come back."
"Unless we get a record deal within the next year," Annie corrected, "We'll be too busy recording to compete. But if not, we'll be waiting."
"Good to know," Chris claimed before turning to face the main camera, "See viewers? Campers want to come back to the show!"
--------
The main reason why campers wanted to return to the show is because of the improved treatment that they received. While the campers of the past were subjected to life-threatening challenges and terrible living conditions, the campers in the two recent seasons were granted livable places to sleep, edible food, and moderately safe challenges. But no matter how nice Playa de Losers was, some campers would still rather be in the game and competing. Rhythm was one of those campers, and she was busy pondering what could have been whilst eating in the kitchen.
"Ah....." Rhythm groaned as she poked the baked halibut filet and asparagus on her plate.
"More fish?" the chef asked as he held out a tray of baked filets.
"Two please," Rhythm requested as the chef placed two filets on her plate, "Ugh...at least I have you to talk to."
"For your sake, I hope you're talking about me; not the filets," the chef expressed.
Since Rhythm arrived at Playa de Losers, she found herself relatively alone most of the time. Most of the other campers on the island had someone to talk to, and Cole: the only other solo person at the resort, wasn't someone with whom she wanted to talk 24/7. Aside from a few talks with Daniel & Amalia, Rhythm found herself alone, doing things such as taking walks along the tile walkway, watching old Total Drama episodes in the living room, and ranting to the cameras.
"Hey, Rhythm," Chris greeted as he walked up to her, "How're you enjoying Playa de Losers?"
"I'd much rather be back in the game," Rhythm admitted before taking a bit of a fish filet, "But I guess my view on this place is the same as last season: large, luxurious, and full of cheer. Can't complain about that. But I'd still rather be in the game."
"I spent.....okay, the network spent a lot of money building this; I better not get complaints," Chris insisted, "But about the game: how well do you think you did in the game?"
"Oh, I'm proud of how I played; I played strategically, and I find no shame in that," Rhythm claimed, "I mean, I got second place last season, so I didn't expect to get that far this time. Tenth is a good accomplishment."
"I'm sure the fans would agree that you're a very talented game player," Chris expressed, "With that, would you want to come back for a future season?"
"Well, you know how much I like the show, Chris; I've spent hours on that couch watching old episodes of the show," Rhythm noted as she blindly pointed towards the living room, "I'd love to come back for another season."
"Looks like those guys would agree with you," Chris noted, pointing to the two men on the couch.
--------
The two men that Chris was referring to was Fedor & Spencer, who were currently watching Total Drama Island: Return to Wawanakwa in the living room. When Fedor arrived on the island, he was pretty lonely, considering the only other camper with him was Katelyn. And although he did find some success talking with the following eliminated campers, it wasn't until Spencer came along that he was able to have some fun. Since the two of them were twins, it only made sense that they had fun around each other simply because they've had similar experiences, and now that they were at Playa de Losers, they had the shared experience of losing.
"You see?" Fedor asked as he pointed to him searching in the water for his key in episode two, "I tried my damn hardest to find my key."
"You should be glad that you didn't get eaten by a shark!" Spencer noted, "How did Chris get that past the lawyers?"
"He probably just dressed up some interns in shark costumes," Fedor answered, "And he probably rigged the platform to break."
"Yeah, lawyers are painful," Chris admitted as he walked over to the twins, "Because of them, we had to use interns."
"Be careful, Chris; you might lose the sponsorship from Canada's #1 law firm," Spencer joked, causing both him and Fedor to laugh.
"We don't have that sponsorship, and they'd never sponsor us anyways. We've given them enough money over the years; they're not just gonna give it back," Chris noted, "But to the reason why I'm here: how do you like Playa de Losers?"
"This is the best, Chris," Fedor admitted, "This is just how I remember it from last season: relaxing, high-class, and entertaining."
"I feel the same way about my cottage," Chris admitted, chuckling a little bit.
"Oh yeah, good touch with the game room, Chris," Spencer praised, "Although there's no computers here. So that sucks."
"Remember: a big part of the show is not having connection with the outside world," Chris reminded, "Speaking of the show, how well do you guys think you did on the show?"
"I didn't think I was given much of a fair shot," Fedor admitted, "Not by the show, but by the other campers: they still hate me for some reason."
"I agree entirely," Spencer agreed, nodding, "After he was voted out, I thought I'd be out pretty soon. So I guess I did better than I thought I would."
"Sounds like you two wish you did better," Chris commented, "Would you be interested in coming back for a future season?"
"I can't imagine people forgiving me enough to let me past the second episode," Fedor admitted, "I think I'm done. Probably."
"Such a bummer, dude; you still have a lot of potential," Chris insisted, "And you, Spencer?"
"I can't say that I'm eager to return," Spencer insisted, "If I'm asked to come back, I'll consider it, but I don't know right now."
"Chris, if you want people who want to return, go to Katelyn & Damien," Fedor suggested, "They're true game-players."
--------
During their time in the game, Katelyn & Damien made a fair attempt to strategize and do what they could with what they had. Sadly, this ended with Katelyn being the first one voted out and Damien being voted out before the merge. But since then, the two of them went about their normal lives as if they were back in Ottawa. Right now, they were having a picnic in one of the greeneries, reminiscent of their first date.
"And...another fruit skewer?" Damien asked as he pulled it out of the picnic basket.
"Thank you very much," Katelyn thanked as she kissed her boyfriend before taking the skewer from him.
"This is just amazing," Damien noted as he pulled a hamburger out of the picnic basket.
"Luckily, there's trees above us," Katelyn noted, pointing to the two, 25ft-tall maple trees above them, "Gives us shade."
"If only we could have some peace," Damien expressed as he looked towards the cameramen filming them, "Why do you guys need to film us having a picnic?"
"Hello, lovebirds," Chris greeted as he walked up to the couple.
"That's why," Katelyn noted before taking a bite of the pineapple and apple slices on her skewer.
"Looks like you two are enjoying your time at Playa de Losers," Chris noted.
"You could say that, Chris," Damien agreed, turning to face Katelyn.
"Absolutely," Katelyn agreed as her and Damien kissed, "Although the cameramen are a little bit annoying. We're technically not competing right now."
"On that note, how well do you two think you did on the show?" Chris asked.
"At first, I was upset that no one gave me a chance," Katelyn admitted, "But I let it go; I know that I was a bit of a b*tch last season, and I guess being the first one out was the cost for that."
"I'll admit, you went out way earlier than I expected you to," Chris agreed, "And you, Damien?"
"I was getting some traction later on, and I could've made it far if I survived my last vote," Damien expressed, "I really think that I could've done better."
"And now for the big question," Chris prefaced, "Would you two want to come back for another season?"
"I definitely want to return," Katelyn answered happily, "I'm not ready to give up."
"Same here, Chris," Damien admitted before laying down on the picnic blanket, "But for now, I guess I'll stick to relaxing."
--------
If there was anyone at Playa de Losers who bathed in the aura of relaxation, it was Cole. Ever since he was voted out, he didn't really have anyone to talk to. To pass the time, he spent most of his time watching Total Drama & ordering room service in his bedroom or getting pampered in the spa. As of now, he was doing the latter; he was simply laying back in a spa chair and resting his feet in warm water as a worker massaged his shoulders.
"Ahh....." Cole muttered, letting all the stress leave his body, "This truly is paradise..."
"Cole?" Chris asked as he walked into the spa, "Are you in here?"
"And....paradise has just been lost," Cole remarked, sinking his head back into his chair.
"There you are," Chris noted as he walked up to the teenager, "We need you to do an interview."
"I don't want to," Cole declared.
"And you don't have a choice," Chris retorted, smiling, "I see you're enjoying Playa de Losers."
"I was until you came here," Cole noted, "Don't you have a challenge to host?"
"The campers are getting a day off today," Chris explained, "Now, you were a decent game player during your time in the game; how well do you think you did?"
"Well enough; I was stressed a lot of the time," Cole admitted, "But I guess it was a new experience and I learned a bit about how the game works."
"Learning? This show is about drama, not learning," Chris insisted, "And speaking of the show, would you want to come back for a future season?"
"I guess I wouldn't mind coming back," Cole answered, "I know Zeyad probably wants to come back for another season. Coming back with him wouldn't be a bad thing."
"Good to know," Chris declared before turning to face the main camera, "Well, looks like all the campers here have mixed opinions about their time on the show. But what do they think about the campers who are still in the game? Find out after the break, right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
