Episode 14: Watching In Paradise- Camper Analysis
"Welcome back to Total Drama Double Trouble!" Chris welcomed as the cameras panned in on him standing on the beach, "Before the break, we took a look at the eliminated campers and found their opinions of the resort and their times in the game. But now, let's see what they think about the six remaining campers in the game. Will they think sweet thoughts? Or will they be salty?"
--------
With that, the footage cut back to Fedor & Spencer in the living room, with Chris standing behind the cameramen to interview them. Considering that the twins were outsiders during the game, Chris was interested in seeing how their views would be different from the campers who were a part of the majority alliance.
"Spencer, what do you think about Veronica's gameplay?" Chris asked.
"She's played a good game," Spencer admitted, "She's definitely one of the most dominant players left in the game."
"Do you think she'll win?" Chris asked.
"Eh.....nah," Spencer answered, "If I'm being honest.....I think she's gonna get overthrown."
"You really think so?" Kavan asked as he walked into the living room while carrying a martini with him.
"Hey, I'm just being honest," Spencer insisted.
"I mean, I get it, but Roni has what it takes to win this game," Kavan reminded, "She's gotten out of tougher spots before."
"Everything that goes up must come down," Spencer reminded, "It's life."
"Spencer, if you think Veronica's time in the spotlight is limited, who do you think will overthrow her?" Chris questioned, curious.
"Hmm..." Spencer pondered, trying to think about the other five campers left in the game, "I'll say......Callie."
"You really think that Callie can overthrow Veronica?" Fedor asked, not looking for a true response, "There's no chance."
"What do you mean? Callie's got a chance," Kavan insisted, "She orchestrated my blindside."
"Karlie & Zeyad orchestrated your blindside; without them, Callie would be here instead of you," Fedor claimed, "She's too timid to actually take over the game."
"She may be timid, but she's also caring," Damien noted as he walked in from the backyard, "She's likable enough for people to keep her in the game."
"She was almost voted out last episode," Fedor reminded, "Being caring doesn't mean sh*t."
"Just don't doubt her, she has her moments of being scary," Damien insisted, "Remember the armwrestling challenge? She beat me in less than a second!"
"And she also dragged you around the maze back in episode six," Spencer added.
"Exactly; she's no joke," Kavan agreed, "It's always the quiet ones that you've gotta watch."
--------
In a game like Total Drama, being quiet didn't necessarily correspond to a lack of gameplay. Being quiet could be seen as a tactic to fly under the radar in an effort to not be targeted. Out of the six remaining campers left in the game, Alina & Karlie seemed to be using this type of strategy, and Chris was ready to bring up this topic to a few of the eliminated campers.
"Daniel, in your two seasons, you've tried to play a quiet game," Chris prefaced, "What do you think about Alina using a similar strategy?"
"Here's the thing: when I played, I made little moves and did some talking even if I didn't need to," Daniel noted, "With Alina, I can't pinpoint one move that she made on her own terms, and I think she's only talking because she has to."
"You don't think she can win?" Amalia asked, curious.
"It's gonna take a lot for her to win," Daniel answered, "But that's just my opinion."
"I'll disagree with that," Katelyn declared as she walked up to the couple.
"What do you think, Katelyn?" Chris asked.
"Alina may not have done much, but she doesn't have to," Katelyn claimed, "Callie's gonna get voted out soon, and then the targets will be Veronica, Dallas, and Karlie. Alina is safe."
"That might get her to the finals, but she won't win," Daniel insisted.
"If you make it to the finals, you have a chance," Katelyn insisted.
"Well, we agree to disagree," Daniel declared.
"Agreed," Katelyn agreed as her and Daniel shook hands.
"Alright....what about Karlie?" Chris asked, wanting to change the subject, "Amalia, do you think that your best friend is playing a good game?"
"She's playing an extremely good game," Amalia answered, "She's definitely thinking far ahead, and that's gonna benefit her over some of the others."
"She's good, but I don't know if I'd pick her to win," Katelyn admitted, "She's got a target on her back."
"But she didn't panic; she scrambled to wash it away, and now she's not that big of a target," Amalia noted.
"She's dead meat," Annie claimed, walking up to the trio with a bottle of Pepsi, "She has way too many enemies left in the game. Veronica & Dallas are gonna be pissed that she betrayed them."
"Doesn't matter; they need her in order to split up Callie & Alina," Amalia noted, "People need her more than they need to get her out."
"Another thing: she also doesn't run her mouth," Katelyn added, "You won't see her screaming at someone until their heads fly off. Like me. Haha."
--------
While a big part of Total Drama was timing big moves, it was also crucial to know when not to do certain things, such as engaging in an argument. For Dallas & Zeyad, they were known for speaking their minds, and sometimes they couldn't help but open their mouths. With that in mind, Chris was ready to interview a few more eliminated campers about those two campers.
"Rhythm, you were the closest person to Dallas in the game," Chris noted, "Do you think that she has what it takes to win."
"I have full confidence in her," Rhythm admitted, "It's going to be tough, but I know that she can pull it off."
"Really? Even after all the confrontations that she's gone through?" Chris asked, curious, "Can she get past that?"
"One thing that I know about Dallas is that when she really wants something, she fights for it with all of her heart," Rhythm claimed, "She's in the final 6; I know that she's dedicated to winning it all."
"Hold on," Chris requested as he signaled for the cameramen to turn their cameras towards Tory, who was walking into the common area with a towel wrapped around him, "Tory!"
"Uh...I'm heading up for a shower," Tory revealed, "Can we do this later?"
"We need it now," Chris insisted, "Tory, do you think that Dallas can win?"
"Ugh..." Tory groaned, not wanting to answer, "You don't want to hear the half of it from me."
"I'm sure I do," Chris insisted, smiling, "Let it all out, Tory."
"Dallas doesn't have the right attitude," Tory claimed, "She's this season's version of Heather."
"She's definitely not Heather," Rhythm insisted, wanting to defend her girlfriend, "She may manipulate people, but she doesn't play with people's feelings."
"She tried to use the rumour about Spencer crushing on Annie against me!" Tory noted, "That's playing with people's feelings."
"That's gossip, not playing with people's feelings," Rhythm claimed, "If she made out with Annie in front of you, that'd be playing with people's feelings. She wasn't trying to break you two up."
"She's got a point, dude," Ariton agreed, having walked in behind Tory, "Take it from me: she could've done a lot worse."
"So you think she has a chance at winning?" Tory asked, shocked.
"She has a better shot at winning than Zeyad does," Ariton expressed, "He's such a goat!"
"Aw heck no!" Cole exclaimed as he strutted out from the spa, "You didn't just say that!"
"I did," Ariton insisted, "He's being carried."
"You're lucky that I just had my nails buffed," Cole noted as he showed the trio his shiny nails, "Or else you'd be torn up by now."
"Hold off the cat fight," Chris requested, "Cole, why does Zeyad have a good chance at winning?"
"People know Zeyad as the guy from last season who had an attitude and never got his way," Cole reminded, "But this season, Zeyad has tried his best to stay quiet, be fair, and wait for the right time to make the right moves."
"So.....he waits for other people to make moves for him," Ariton claimed, "Same with you. That's why they kept you two over me."
"If you'd let me finish, Zeyad's grown a lot since the first season," Cole insisted, "He's done better in challenges, he isn't as confrontational, and is learning how to show loyalty to people."
"And that loyalty turned him into a goat!" Ariton insisted, "Which proves my point!"
"He's a chic penguin, not a goat!" Cole yelled, causing Rhythm to stand up and back him away.
"I'm....done with this interview," Chris declared as he began walking away, "Cameramen, follow."
--------
With the interviews completed, the footage cut to a late-night scene. It was now 7:30pm: all twelve eliminated campers gathered in and around the rectangular pool, as if they were a group of university students on a Spring Break trip. But in reality, they were losers from a million-dollar reality competition show, and they bonded over their shared trait of having missed out on that season's million dollar prize.
"That was a long day, right guys?" Cole asked, sitting on the edge of the pool.
"You spent the whole day in the spa!" Fedor noted, sitting next to Cole, "That wasn't long for you at all!"
"Not true," Rhythm insisted as she took a seat a few feet away from them, "He did argue with Ariton for a bit."
"On that note, where's Ariton?" Daniel asked, sitting behind Rhythm with Amalia.
"He was drunk so I sent him up to his room," Kavan answered whilst floating in the pool.
"Was he 'drunk-talking'?" Annie asked whilst sitting on Tory's lap in the pool, "Y'know, speaking nonsense and all that."
"No," Kavan answered, "He was just ranting about how he thinks Roni will win."
"I don't know..." Spencer muttered, floating as he turned to face Katelyn & Damien, "What do you guys think?"
"Y'know what, let's figure this out," Damien suggested whilst holding Katelyn in his embrace in the pool, "Who do we all want to win?"
"Obviously, I want Roni to win," Kavan expressed, "She has the whole package, she's a leader, she's strategic, and she can win challenges."
*Shows shots of Veronica leading a discussion, suggesting a split-vote plan, and being given the Golden Marshmallow necklace by Chris*
"I'm not calling it a biased decision, but it sounds like it," Annie admitted.
"Ariton agrees; I'm not alone on this one," Kavan noted.
"Well, who do you think deserves to win, Annie?" Daniel asked, curious.
"I want Alina to win," Annie admitted, "She's played a very 'under the radar' game."
"I can get on board with that," Katelyn agreed.
"How?" Damien asked, "She hasn't made enough moves to win."
"It doesn't matter if she's made enough moves," Katelyn claimed, "She has the skills to win. She held up 140 pounds during the weightlifting challenge, she almost beat Karlie for immunity in the blackjack challenge, and she almost beat Veronica for immunity in the spelling challenge."
*Shows shots of Alina holding up the pole in episode two, eliminating Daniel from the blackjack challenge, and correctly spelling 'Attractant'*
"To me, if she's up against anyone other than Veronica or Callie, she's gonna win," Katelyn expressed, "And those two are probably gonna be out soon."
"That's a big 'if'," Damien noted, "But if you ask me, I think Callie is gonna win."
"Are you all crazy?" Fedor asked, "She's gonna get strongarmed into submission."
"Callie's a lot stronger than people give her credit for," Daniel claimed, agreeing with Damien, "She was the last one standing in the weightlifting challenge, she beat everyone in the eating challenge, and she beat Damien in the armwrestling challenge."
*Shows shots of Callie holding up 100 pounds on a pole, eating Juggy Chunks Fries, and slamming Damien's hand onto the armwrestling table*
"She has the potential to win," Daniel insisted, "I'm rooting for her."
"Dallas isn't gonna let her get to the finale," Spencer claimed.
"You think Dallas is gonna win?" Fedor asked, shocked at his twin's implication.
"I think she deserves it," Spencer admitted, "She refused to be anyone's puppet, and played her own game."
"Exactly! Her game is actually a lot better than people say it is," Rhythm claimed, happy that someone agreed with her, "She doesn't take any BS from anyone, and she's not afraid to dig in her heels and stand up for what she wants."
*Shows shots of Dallas calling out Tory during an elimination ceremony, confronting Tory after his blindside, and arguing with Callie in the mini-mansion*
"Sure, she hasn't won any individual challenges, but you'd have to be crazy if you aren't scared of her," Rhythm insisted, "She wants the million dollar prize so bad."
"But if she scares everyone so much, she's not gonna make it to the final two," Cole noted, "Especially if she doesn't win any challenges."
"What about you, Cole? We know that you're supporting Zeyad," Kavan noted, "If winning challenges is what counts, how can Zeyad win if he hasn't won anything?"
"First of all, he tried his damn hardest to win the reward challenge and he did," Cole reminded, "He's not that bad."
"But what if he doesn't win any challenges?" Fedor noted, "How is he any different than Dallas?"
"The difference is that Zeyad can keep his cool," Cole insisted, "He's been more of a watcher than a fighter."
*Shows shots of Zeyad staying silent as Daniel leaves the island, attempting to break up Dallas & Callie's fight, and preventing Dallas from chasing Callie*
"Zeyad's really tried to get people to like him; he doesn't want to be the enemy anymore," Cole claimed, "If he's in the finale against Dallas, people would root for him because he's nicer."
"Fair enough, I guess," Tory agreed.
"Are you serious?!" Fedor exclaimed.
"As much as I hate to admit it, Zeyad's been the underdog for so long," Tory claimed, "He did well in the mechanic challenge, and he's not the primary target. If he finds a way to make it to the end, I'd probably give him my vote."
"Can I suggest something?" Amalia asked rhetorically, "I don't think that Karlie is getting enough recognition."
"Thank you!" Fedor exclaimed, standing up from his seat, "That's what I've been waiting to hear!"
"So I guess you want Karlie to win, bro?" Spencer commented, stating the obvious.
"Absolutely!" Fedor agreed, "She's played the best strategic game out of everyone left! She has to win!"
"Being really strategic doesn't mean that you're guaranteed to win," Daniel noted as he pointed at himself with both of his hands, "Exhibit A."
"Hey, she has a chance," Amalia insisted, "She's pulled off blindsides, won an immunity challenge, and managed to get people to trust her after betraying them."
*Shows shots of Karlie voting for Annie, receiving the Golden Marshmallow necklace from Chris, and talking with Veronica & Kavan*
"She has the potential to be one of the best competitors that the show has ever seen," Amalia claimed, "I think she'll win."
"To each their own," Daniel conceded.
"Y'know Daniel, this is the first time in a while that I've seen you disagree with something that Amalia believes," Kavan admitted.
"We're not gonna agree on everything," Daniel reminded as he kissed Amalia on her head.
"I don't want to agree, but you've been doing a lot for Amalia lately," Katelyn noted, "I heard that you even gave her a sponge bath."
"First of all: I didn't force Daniel to do that," Amalia insisted, "That was Daniel's suggestion."
"It's not safe for her to stand on one leg in the shower," Daniel claimed, "She could slip and fall."
"Hold on, you gave her a sponge bath?" Rhythm asked, wanting clarity, "Wouldn't that mean that you'd have to see her-"
"Umm......." Amalia interrupted, not wanting to answer anything further, "I think that's enough of that conversation."
"It's not like it's a big deal," Daniel claimed, speaking to Rhythm, "I mean, we've already-"
"Can someone please change the subject?" Amalia requested, slightly embarrassed.
"No problem!" Chris exclaimed as he ran out into the area, "Losers, it's time for an unexpected twist!"
"Let me guess: we're all going to vote to eliminate one of the remaining six campers, and whoever receives the most votes will be forced to walk down the Dock of Shame and leave the island on the Jet-Ski of Losers?" Rhythm remarked, smirking at the end.
"Hellooooooo? I said unexpected," Chris repeated, "What you just said is entirely predictable!"
"Well, what did you have in mind, Chris?" Spencer asked.
"Tonight, six of you will be given the chance to re-enter the game!" Chris declared, immediately causing the twelve campers to perk up.
"No way!" Annie exclaimed.
"Way!" Chris mocked, "Here's how it's going to work: the producers have selected six of you to compete in a challenge for this chance. The winner of that challenge will get the chance to re-enter the game."
"So even if we win the challenge, it's not guaranteed that we get back into the competition?" Fedor asked.
"Exactly," Chris confirmed, smiling.
"Hey, it's better than nothing," Tory noted.
"What's the challenge?" Kavan asked, eager to start.
"The challenge won't be until tomorrow morning," Chris declared, "But I can tell you which six campers will compete in the challenge."
At that moment, all twelve eliminated campers looked around at each other in a concerning fashion. They all wondered who around them could've been picked by the producers, and who would most likely take away a spot that could go to them. It didn't matter what they may have said hours before: they all wanted a second shot at the million dollar prize, especially since they'd be entering the game with only six other campers left to compete against.
"The following six campers will compete in the challenge for a chance to re-enter the game:" Chris prefaced as he began reading off a list on his phone, "Damien, Kavan, Rhythm, Katelyn, Daniel, and Annie."
The six listed campers immediately cheered for joy, elated that they had this opportunity. For Amalia & Tory, even though they weren't chosen, they were content knowing that their romantic partners were chosen. For Fedor, Spencer, and Cole, they were left disappointed, having been denied another chance to win a million dollars. The reactions were certainly mixed, making it clear to Chris that whoever won tomorrow's challenge would stir up some drama, both at Camp Wawanakwa and Playa de Losers.
"To the selected six campers, sleep well, because you're gonna need it," Chris encouraged before walking away with the camera crew, "Well viewers, that's what life at Playa de Losers is like. Which camper will win the chance to re-enter the game? Which of the in-game campers will win immunity? And who will be voted out next? Find out next time, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
