Episode 12: Irreparable- Reward Challenge/Reward Reception

"Welcome back to Total Drama Double Trouble," Chris welcomed as the cameras zoomed in on him sitting in the car, "Before the break, the campers broke off into duos and were told that they were going to get a taste of how it felt to be car mechanics. Let's get down to the action and see how each duo competes."

--------

With Chris' introduction over with, the cameras focused on the first duo in the SUV; Dallas was in the driver's seat, and Zeyad was in the passenger's seat. Out of all the duos, this was the one that arguably had the least amount of chemistry. They weren't necessarily friends, and they didn't start working together until last episode. So they were a bit worried about how this would go.

"Did I tell you that I get nauseous when being spun around?" Zeyad asked.

"Just shut up, keep your mouth shut, and try to think that you're on a carousel with Cole or something," Dallas suggested, "It'll keep your mind off of the spinning."

"Get ready campers!" Chris warned, "Ready, set, start!"

With that, Chef Hatchet activated the platform, causing it to spin around; it wasn't super fast, but it was faster than your everyday carousel. Both campers in the car were quite uncomfortable. Dallas had her eyes closed, doing her best to tune out the spinning feeling, while Zeyad tried to think happier thoughts to prevent himself from vomiting. After almost a minute of spinning, a horn sounded, signalling the duo to start.

"Roll out! Roll out!" Dallas called out as her and Zeyad jumped through the windows of the car, "You get the windows, I'll get the tire."

"Beforehand, Zeyad and I split up the duties so it would be even for us. I let Zeyad do the windshield wiping because his reach is longer than mine, and I let him do the stickers because he's very decorative. I took on the tire because I knew that it would take a while, and I didn't want Zeyad to get frustrated. And as for the gasoline, I think I'm better fit to do it, but if I take a while with the tire, Zeyad will go and do it."- Dallas

In general, they chose the right strategy. Since they didn't have a lot of experience working together, splitting up allowed them to work more efficiently. Using his lithe frame, Zeyad quickly slid back and forth over the car, wiping the windshields clear of bugs as he did so. And with Dallas furiously working to undo the lug nuts on the left, front tire, Zeyad raced to apply the stickers.

"The 'I love Chevy' sticker on the window....the 'Baby on Board' sticker on the bumper..." Zeyad muttered as he ran around the car.

"The hardest part was just running around the car all the time. I could feel myself get tired out, but I didn't want to give up; this was the first post-merge challenge that I really thought that I could win, and I wasn't ready to let it go."- Zeyad

"And time for the tank!" Zeyad declared as he attempted to lift the can of gasoline, "Hgggghhhhhh! Ugh....Dallas! A little help please!"

"Hold on!" Dallas requested as she secured the final lug nut of the spare tire, "Coming!"

"This gas tank wasn't like the small red ones that you might know; it was almost the same height as me, and probably weighed around twenty-five pounds. It was the first time that we had to work together, and I think we handled it calmly and rationally."- Dallas

"Get the f*cking nozzle into the hole!" Dallas screamed as she lifted the gasoline tank, allowing gas to pour into the tank.

"It's good!" Zeyad declared, allowing the two of them to drop the tank, "Get into the car!"

"On it!" Dallas assured as she hopped into the car and slammed her hand down on the horn, ending the challenge, "Yes!"

"Good job!" Zeyad praised as he high-fived Dallas, "We did it!"

"Yeah, sorry that I yelled," Dallas apologized.

"No problem, girl," Zeyad assured, "We needed the motivation."

"I think we did well; aside from the gas can problem, we didn't have any real setbacks. Hopefully we've done enough to win."- Zeyad

--------

Dallas & Zeyad managed to complete their challenge in an exceptional amount of time and without having the same amount of chemistry as some of the other duos. Logically, it'd make you wonder how a duo with a lot of chemistry would do with this challenge. For Veronica & Kavan, they had a lot of chemistry; both in the game and outside the game. Knowing this, they employed the strategy to work together on each task.

"It's secured; lift!" Veronica instructed as Kavan began pouring gasoline into the tank.

"And.......done!" Kavan exclaimed as he put down the can, "I'll get the tire iron!"

"The way that we saw it, if we worked together on each task, we could complete them twice as fast, which would allow us to finish faster. It seemed like a good idea."- Kavan

The one downside to the plan was that they weren't able to do multiple tasks at once like Dallas & Zeyad. But this further motivated the couple to move faster. Before long, they managed to change a tire and clean both windshields within seconds before moving onto the stickers.

"I've got the front, you've got the back!" Veronica declared as she slapped an 'I <3 Chevrolet' sticker on the front bumper.

"Kavan and I were like a well-oiled machine out there. We communicated well, worked quickly, and we didn't really have any hiccups. We haven't worked this well since the dress-up challenge."- Veronica

"I'm getting into the front seat!" Kavan declared as he opened the door to the driver's seat.

"I'm right behind ya'!" Veronica declared as she hopped into the passenger's seat, "Hit it!"

"Hyahhhh!" Kavan screamed as he punched the car horn, causing it to make a short sound, "Oww...."

"Are you alright?" Veronica asked, concerned.

"I'll be fine," Kavan assured as he rubbed his right hand, "I've had much worse injuries before."

"Hopefully the prize is a bag of ice," Veronica joked, causing the both of them to laugh.

"Adrenaline kicked in and we didn't stop moving until I punched that horn. We worked our a*ses off out there. I really hope we win the reward; it's bound to be something good."- Kavan

--------

With the deep chemistry between Veronica & Kavan, the two of them were successful in completing the challenge relatively quickly. Given that duos of differing chemistry were able to complete the challenge quickly, it appeared as if the most important quality for this challenge was speed and efficiency, not chemistry. For Karlie & Alina, they found this out quickly as they found themselves having trouble with the tire.

"A little more....." Karlie muttered as she pulled on the top end of the tire iron.

"C'mon..." Alina whispered as she pulled on the bottom end of the tire iron.

"We lost a lot of time on changing the tire. We breezed through filling the car with gas, adding the stickers, and wiping the windshields without breaking a sweat. But changing the tire felt like playing tug-of-war with a metal pole instead of rope."- Karlie

"This is literally the last bolt!" Alina noted as she pulled harder, "Or whatever this is!"

"It's a lug nut," Karlie corrected, "A major breakthrough for tires."

"Well we're gonna break through this breakthrough if it's the last thing we do," Alina remarked.

"Y'know what? Let go," Karlie ordered as she placed her right foot on the bottom of the tire iron and pushed as she pulled the top of the tire iron simultaneously.

"We just kept pulling and pulling; it refused to budge. But then Karlie decided to use her legs to help force the nut to move. It didn't work at first, but after a few seconds, BAM! It just flew off."- Alina

"Gah!" Karlie exclaimed as she fell backwards, dropping the tire iron and sending the last lug nut flying as she did so.

"Are you alright?" Alina asked.

"Just get the tire in place!" Karlie ordered.

From that point on, it was all straight-forward; with the hard part out of the way, the duo wasted no time in swapping out the tires, securing the spare one in place, and racing to get back in the car. After about thirty seconds of hard work, the duo entered the car and sounded the horn before collapsing into their seats. While they were glad that the challenge was over, they weren't at all happy with their estimated time.

"How long do you think that was?" Alina asked.

"Three minutes, probably," Karlie rationalized, breathing heavily.

"I doubt that we're gonna win the reward; I'm starting to think that physical challenges aren't my thing. I mean, I knew it a long time ago, but I thought that after weeks of competing in challenges, my body would've adjusted to the competitive nature."- Karlie

--------

Karlie had a point: biologically, if you were in an environment for an extended period of time, your body should attempt to adapt to the surroundings to make survival easier for yourself. For Daniel & Callie, they weren't always physically active in their daily lives, but being in a competitive environment like Total Drama gave them the strength to do things that they originally thought was undo-able.

"And.....finished the windshield!" Daniel declared as he tossed the brush to the side and grabbed the tire iron, "Do you need help with the gas can?"

"I'm good!" Callie insisted as she dragged the can over to the car.

"After putting on all the stickers, I really wanted to fill the car with gas because I knew it wouldn't be easy; I mean, the can was larger than me! But I wanted a challenge, and Daniel was fine with cleaning the windows and changing a tire, so it all worked out."- Callie

"Just let me know if you need any help," Daniel reminded as he unscrewed a lugnut.

"I'll be......fiiiiiiine!" Callie exclaimed as she hoisted the gas can over her shoulder with a Herculean effort.

"Alright, just checking," Daniel assured as he continued to remove lug nuts.

"I've never changed a tire; that's one skill that I never needed to use. But it didn't seem that hard. Of course, I'm sure it's much harder if you're doing it on the side of the highway and in pouring rain, but I didn't complain; the faster we got that done, the better."- Daniel

"And....done!" Callie called out as she dropped the gas can, "Are you good, Daniel?"

"Can you help me with this last one?!" Daniel requested.

"Alright!" Callie agreed as she ran and grabbed one end of the tire iron, allowing the two of them to tighten the final lug nut and secure the spare tire in place, "Nice!"

"Get in the front seat!" Daniel ordered as he ran and climbed through the passenger side window while Callie opened the driver's side door and hopped in, "Now!"

With all her might, Callie pressed down on the horn, sounding it and officially ending the challenge. The two members of the duo were happy; they worked together well, and they took care to ensure that each person was okay. If anything, that challenge was representative of their friendship; it was cohesive, fair, and neither person felt that they were above the other.

"Nice job!" Daniel praised as he fistbumped Callie, "Thanks for the help."

"You're welcome, alliance buddy," Callie thanked as she reciprocated the fistbump, "We make a good team."

"Yeah, we do," Daniel agreed, "Let's hope we can continue this for the homestretch."

"Callie and I really work together well. Last season, I only got to work with her for three episodes, so I didn't know what she was capable of. But this season, she's proven herself to be a loyal and competent ally, not to mention a very kind ally. She's genuinely wants to work with me going forward, and I would do whatever I could do to protect her."- Daniel

--------

With the final duo completing their run, the footage cut to the eight campers standing on the platform, and Chris standing next to a television screen. With this being the first reward challenge of the season, everyone was curious as to who would win, and even more curious as to what the reward would be.

"Well campers, I must say that I'm impressed with your performances today," Chris admitted, "Let's see what your times are."

"This is the best that I've done in a post-merge challenge; if Dallas and I don't win this one, I might not win one at all this season."- Zeyad

"Roni and I were happy with our efforts; I think we did well enough to win, but if we didn't, oh well."- Kavan

"I'm not expecting to win; luckily, it's not an immunity challenge, so I can't lose much even if we lose."- Alina

"I really hope that Daniel & I win; I don't want to be greedy, but winning anything on Total Drama is good. Unless it's a Baywatch swimsuit."- Callie

"Dallas & Zeyad's time was...." Chris began as he pulled up the time onto the screen, "One minute and twenty-four seconds! Nice job!"

"Yeah!" Zeyad cheered as him and Dallas high-fived, "Beat that!"

"Knowing them, they probably will," Dallas joked.

"Our time was better than I thought, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. Any of those groups could've gotten a better time than us."- Dallas

"Veronica & Kavan's time was...." Chris muttered before revealing the time, "One minute and forty seconds!"

"Ah....dang...." Kavan muttered, "Eh, can't win them all I guess."

"Fair enough," Veronica agreed.

"I honestly thought that we did well, and I didn't expect Dallas & Zeyad to do that well. Guess I'm not getting another trip to Italy."- Veronica

"Alina & Karlie's time was...." Chris began, building up the tension, "Two minutes and twenty-six seconds....oh....."

"Yeah, that figures," Alina remarked, nodding in agreeance.

"Guess we're not meant to be mechanics," Karlie rationalized.

"We were more than a minute slower than the fastest team. We didn't just lose; we got crushed." *laughs*- Karlie

"Right now, Dallas & Zeyad are in the lead with one minute and twenty-four seconds," Chris reminded, "Daniel & Callie, you need a time better than that to win the reward."

"Oddly enough, I hope that Dallas & Zeyad win; they've been through a lot in this game and deserve at least something to be happy about."- Veronica

"I hope that Callie & Daniel win; if I can't win, I want Callie to win. After all the stress that she's had to face with making a big move and being targeted, she should get something."- Alina

"Daniel & Callie, your time was...." Chris began before pausing and eventually revealing the time, "One minute and thirty-eight seconds; not good enough! Dallas & Zeyad win reward!"

With that, all eyes were on the winning duo, who were currently hugging and jumping up and down in happiness. For Dallas & Zeyad, they were elated that they were finally able to win something in the competition. Sure, it was only a reward challenge, but their win couldn't have come at a more important time, and they would soon find out why.

"What's our prize?" Zeyad asked, excited.

"Well, that's where the fun part comes in," Chris remarked as he pulled out two small, wrapped boxes out of his pockets and showed them off, "In each box is a gift. No tricks; both prizes are equally good, and compared to what you had to go through over the past few weeks, this is heaven. You each need to pick one present; what's it gonna be?"

"You can choose," Dallas allowed, shocking Zeyad, "I'll let fate decide what I get."

"Well.....I guess I choose the one in the right hand," Zeyad declared, causing Chris to toss him the right present, "Let's see..."

Everyone watched carefully as Zeyad unwrapped the box. Chris claimed that the present would be 'like heaven', but they knew that Chris' definition of heaven could be different from the traditional one. It could be so good that you feel like you're in heaven, or it could be so bad that it'd literally send you straight to heaven. But when Zeyad finally opened the box and pulled out the gift, it was clear with what Chris meant.

"What?" Zeyad muttered as he pulled a car key out of the box, "This is just a car ke-.......no. No way!"

"Yes way!" Chris corrected as he pointed to the car behind the group, "Congratulations Zeyad, you've just won yourself that 2020 Chevrolet Equinox!"

That official declaration immediately raised the level of enthusiasm among the campers. While the remainder of the campers went to hug Zeyad, he ran, jumped onto the hood of the car, and hugged it, as if it were his mother. That moment was without a doubt, the best moment that Zeyad experienced in both seasons that he appeared on Total Drama. All of the stress, trouble, and pain that he went through over the past few weeks was all worth it for that moment.

*crying tears of joy* "I can't believe I won a car! Y'know, I've been so damn lucky on this show. I've been brought back into the game twice, I'm the last man from my original alliance, and now I won a car! What's next? Am I gonna win the show?"- Zeyad

"Damn; I guess I should've picked first," Dallas joked, causing everyone to laugh.

"Don't worry, Dallas; your gift is just as good," Chris assured as he tossed Dallas the second gift.

"Let's see..." Dallas remarked as she unwrapped the box, opened it, and pulled out a piece of parchment from it, "Congratulations: you now have the power to mark one duo for elimination."

Contrary to the first announcement, this gift silenced and got the attention of all the campers; Zeyad even stopped hugging his car so he could pay attention to what Dallas said. After seeing Zeyad get a luxury prize, no one expected Dallas to get a game-related prize, leaving many of them concerned and worried.

"Keep the cameras on them!" Chris ushered as the cameramen focused on the campers, "Dallas, continue reading."

"The losing duo that you mark for elimination will be the only ones eligible to be voted out. They will not vote, and neither will you," Dallas added, "Your partner and the two duos that you didn't select will then vote to eliminate one of the two marked campers from the game."

"That's a monumental power. Now I really wish that I won the challenge so I could control who gets marked. Hopefully Dallas goes along with the plan and doesn't mark me."- Veronica

"I knew that today would be the end for me. Out of all the campers here, I've screwed over Dallas the most in this game. I'd be shocked if she didn't mark me."- Karlie

"Dallas and I had a talk earlier today, and she promised not to hurt me. I wasn't fully confident in her since then, but if she saved me, I wouldn't doubt her anymore."- Callie

"Dallas, you've got to make the choice right now; adds a pressure element," Chris declared, "Decide quickly and decide carefully."

"It was tough; there were pros and cons to marking each duo. For Veronica & Kavan, they're definitely the ones controlling the game, so getting rid of one of them could help get me into power. But if one goes, one stays, and they're gonna be after me hardcore. For Karlie & Alina, they're both sly & unpredictable; getting rid of one of them would benefit my game. However, they're not necessarily the best challenge performers; I need to keep weak players here. And for Daniel & Callie, I know that if I mark them, Daniel will get voted out because everyone likes Callie, which is good. But I also risk making Callie mad, because I just promised her safety. It was really tough to choose, but I made the choice that I thought was best for me."- Dallas

"I just want to say that this move isn't at all personal; it's entirely strategic," Dallas insisted before taking a deep breath, "I've decided to mark......Daniel & Callie."

That decision resulted in an array of emotions from the other campers. Veronica & Kavan sighed in relief, elated that they wouldn't be split up. Zeyad nodded without a smile, implying that he would've done the same. Karlie & Alina were glad to not be marked, but were hurt with the fact that one of their allies would be voted out. Daniel nodded with a straight expression, as if he knew that he'd be marked. Callie had the most complex stream of emotions; first was shock, then it was anger, and before she could yell something, she broke out in tears.

"Why?!" Callie exclaimed, visibly hurt, "Why, Dallas?"

"Callie, I'm really sorry," Dallas insisted, "I didn't want to hurt you!"

"But you did!" Callie commented, "We had a deal!"

"Callie..." Daniel muttered as he brought Callie in for a hug, "Don't worry about it; you're not going home."

"I...c-can't believe...." Callie muttered as she cried into Daniel's shirt, unable to speak.

"Just breathe, calm down, and think happy thoughts," Daniel insisted as he patted Callie's back, "You're not getting voted out; you're gonna stay in this game."

"Yeah....as much as I don't want to interrupt, we need to keep this going," Chris insisted, "Zeyad, Veronica, Kavan, Alina, & Karlie, you can only vote to eliminate either Daniel or Callie. No invincibility statues, no advantages; just a pure vote. One by one, you'll enter the Confession-"

"Chris!" Daniel called out, causing everyone to look at him, "There's no need for the Confession Can; we all know what's going to happen."

"Are you sure, Daniel?" Chris asked, "Don't you want to fight it?"

"The fight's over; we all know who's winning," Daniel insisted, still keeping Callie in his embrace, "But if you'll allow it, I'd like to request an oral vote."

"Um....okay, I guess," Chris conceded, "As long as the other campers are fine with it."

"I don't know..." Veronica muttered, "It's kinda..."

"It's just that we've spent so much time lying to each other in this game; there's no point in lying and hiding when it's completely obvious," Daniel rationalized, "I respect you all as players, I'm not gonna be upset by this, and I'd like to humbly request that you do this as a....um, parting gift."

"I guess we can do it. Any objections?" Kavan agreed, to which he received shakes of the head from the other campers, "I guess we can vote now."

"Alright campers, by an odd turn of events, there'll be an oral vote," Chris conceded, "Zeyad, who will you vote for?"

"Daniel," Zeyad declared.

"Even though Callie is a popularity threat, Daniel is a physical and strategic threat; I had to vote for him."- Zeyad

"Veronica, who will you vote for?" Chris asked.

"Daniel," Veronica answered, confident in her decision.

"We were planning on voting out Karlie, but if not her, Daniel is the next best option. He's a big threat, and it was time for him to go."- Veronica

"Kavan?" Chris questioned, going down the line.

"I'll vote for Daniel," Kavan replied halfheartedly, "I'm really sorry, man."

"No hard feelings," Daniel assured, "I understand."

"I hate to vote out Daniel, but I promised Roni that I'd side with her, and I knew that Daniel would understand."- Kavan

"Alina?" Chris questioned.

"Well I can't vote for Callie," Alina rationalized, referring to her friendship with Callie, "So I guess I vote for Daniel."

"Callie is my best friend; it would make no sense for me to vote her off. Daniel may have to go, but at least I still have Callie."- Alina

"And Karlie?" Chris asked.

"Daniel," Karlie replied without hesitation.

"Daniel was supposed to be my final two deal, but I wasn't gonna throw a vote against Callie when Daniel is guaranteed to go. It hurt to do it, but it had to be done."- Karlie

"Alright, it's settled," Chris declared, "By a unanimous vote, Daniel, you've been voted out."

"See, Callie? You're staying!" Daniel reminded, still with Callie hugging him, "Chris? Do we head to the Dock of Shame now? Or is there a path around here that I have to take?"

"Dock of Shame," Chris answered, visibly disappointed, "Let's get this done."

--------

Normally, getting voted out and losing your chance at a million dollars would make someone sad. But Daniel seemed at ease with his elimination. He didn't want to cry, he didn't want to fret; all he wanted was to leave the game honourably and with the respect of his fellow campers. He was ready to leave with his head held high, but not without giving some parting words to a few campers.

"Callie, you're gonna be fine," Daniel assured, "You have a chance to win this game. Channel your anger towards Dallas and take her out. Alright?"

"Alright..." Callie agreed as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Good," Daniel remarked, giving Callie one last hug before walking over to Kavan.

"I'm really sorry dude," Kavan apologized, "I really didn't want to-"

"Save it; I know it killed you," Daniel insisted, "It's a game move; we're still gonna be friends outside this game. Good luck."

"Thanks man," Kavan thanked as he fistbumped Daniel, "Just please pray for me. It's not gonna be easy."

"Always," Daniel assured before walking over to Dallas.

"I'm not gonna apologize; you're a threat," Dallas admitted, "First victim; you've just been finessed."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Daniel agreed, smiling, "Congrats, you got the best of me. Good luck."

"Thanks," Dallas thanked, smiling.

"Everyone, thank you for making this season fun, I wish you all the best of luck, and try not to kill each other," Daniel called out, resulting in several verbal goodbyes.

"Don't get me wrong, Daniel's a nice guy in this game, and he's probably a nice guy outside this game too. But we're not here to be nice; we're here to win a million dollars, and I just got rid of one of my biggest competitors. This is the beginning of my true game, and the others better watch out, because they won't see me coming."- Dallas

"Let's get this done, Chef," Daniel requested as Chef Hatchet handcuffed him to the Jet Ski of Losers, "I want to go see Amalia."

"It's been fun, Daniel. But everyone goes eventually," Chris noted as he activated the Jet Ski of Losers, sending Daniel away from the island with a surprised shout.

"I'm gonna miss him," Karlie admitted.

"Me too..." Callie agreed, "Me too...."

"Daniel's done nothing but good things for me; he pretty much gave up his own place in the game to save me. Yeah, he was probably going home anyway, but he still protected me all the way to the very end. He did what he could to give me a chance to win, and I'm gonna do all I can to make it happen. I'm gonna win this for you, Daniel!"- Callie

With that, Chris informed the campers that no one would go to Boney Island, Dallas & Zeyad would be staying together in the mini-mansion, and sent the campers on their way. This left Chris alone on the Dock of Shame, wondering what would happen next. Daniel's elimination meant that one of the biggest threats in the game was now gone, leaving space for someone else to fill that role, and Chris was excited to see who would rise to the occasion.

"Well, if that shows anything, it's that no matter how safe you feel, your game can be over in a matter of seconds," Chris noted as he talked to the main camera, "How will Daniel's elimination affect the game? Will Dallas finally take charge? And who will be voted out next? Find out next time, right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"

--------

Final Words:

"I placed third last season, and I placed eighth this time; some people would be upset about doing worse, but I'm not one of them. I played the game the best way that I knew how, and it just didn't work out this time. I met a lot of great people, and I don't regret coming back; it was a great experience and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. But there's still one thing that I need to do." *pulls out invincibility statue* "A while ago, I found this 'Spirit Head of Invincibility'. Now that I'm out of the game, I have to 'will' it to someone. And I've decided to will this invincibility statue to Callie; if she can get her head back in the game, she'll have a great chance to win. You can do it Callie! Amalia & I will be rooting for you!"- Daniel
