Episode 11: It's All Blown Up- Immunity Challenge
"Welcome back to Total Drama Double Trouble!" Chris welcomed as the cameras panned in on him in the producers' lounge, "Before the break, the campers were made aware of today's 'explosive' themed challenge. Let's go and see who's chances of winning immunity blow up in their face!"
--------
With that, the cameras focused on the beach, with each camper in their respective cubicle-like areas. With only plastic goggles to protect them, the campers were in the full blast radius of the bombs. Even though they were at risk of being plastered with paint, the need to win immunity motivated them all to at least try and win, even if they felt moderately safe.
"Good luck everyone!" Lindsay exclaimed.
"Thanks!" Karlie thanked as she readjusted her goggles.
"I don't think I need to win, but if everyone screws up, I won't mind winning immunity."- Karlie
"My girlfriend just got voted out; if I don't win, I could very well go home. I know that people want Daniel out, but they've done dumber stuff before."- Dallas
"I don't know if I'm a big target, but I'd like to win another immunity challenge. The last one was good, but I want to make sure it wasn't a fluke."- Callie
"Time for round one!" Duncan declared, "Pay attention!"
With that, a sequence of four wires appeared on the screen. Using their memorizing skills, the key was remembering that the order of the colours was red, orange, pink, and green. What surprised the campers was that each colour was on the screen for barely half a second, forcing them to memorize the colours faster than ever before, which some just weren't able to do.
"Alright! Cut the wire that appeared before the pink one!" Duncan declared.
"That first one was too fast. I just guessed."- Dallas
"I was pretty sure it was orange, so I went for it."- Alina
"The beginning was the worst; if you got out first, it'd be embarrassing. But I was sure that it was orange."- Karlie
"I thought it was orange, but my gut told me it was something else. I chose to ignore my gut, just that once."- Spencer
"The first round wasn't difficult at all, which by Chris' rules, meant that the latter rounds would be much harder."- Daniel
"The sequence was short, so it wasn't that difficult to remember."- Veronica
"I thought it was orange, but orange can look a lot like yellow sometimes, so I wasn't sure."- Zeyad
"It was either orange or red. I honestly picked at random."- Kavan
"The colours flashed by in a blur. I couldn't remember anything!"- Callie
"Wire cutters at the ready!" Duncan announced, "Ready, set, cut!"
With Duncan's declaration, the nine campers cut their respective wires. For the first few seconds after the cuts, the campers waited in silence for something to happen. After three seconds of waiting, the bombs in front of Callie & Dallas exploded, sending paint flying straight onto their clothes. It certainly wasn't a pleasant feeling.
"The correct wire was orange!" Lindsay declared, "Dallie & Callas, you're eliminated."
"It's Callie and....." Duncan began, "Y'know, nevermind."
"I didn't expect to win this one, although I really wanted to. Now I gotta hope that Veronica or Kavan can beat Daniel out for immunity."- Dallas
*covered in paint* "I guess this is how it feels to be a canvas." *laughs*- Callie
"Round two!" Duncan announced, "Take a close look!"
Round two wasn't much different from round one. There were still four colours in the sequence, and each colour was on the screen for a short amount of time. But none of the remaining campers took notice to that; their entire minds were focused on memorizing the sequence of green, blue, orange, and yellow, hoping that they could repeat their success from the last round.
"Cut the first wire shown!" Duncan announced.
"The most difficult part was memorizing it in such a short amount of time; it was really hard."- Spencer
"I was kinda rattled from the first round, so I wasn't paying that much attention..."- Zeyad
"It was at the beginning, so I wasn't entirely sure if my choice was right."- Alina
"It was green. At the time, I didn't think otherwise."- Daniel
"I thought it was green; luckily, it was only four wires."- Karlie
"Again, this wasn't that hard. I was hoping that the rest of the challenge would be that easy."- Veronica
"I thought it was blue. Honestly." *chuckles*- Kavan
"Let's see who blows up next!" Duncan declared, half-excited, "Ready, set, cut!"
The remaining seven campers cut their chosen wires simultaneously. While campers like Daniel & Kavan remained unphased, the other campers covered their face with their arms, just in case they were wrong. For Zeyad, it was the right move as his bomb exploded seconds after he cut his wire. But he wasn't the only one who had their bomb explode; even though Kavan was confident that he was right, this thought was quenched when the bomb blew apart and coated him with a layer of paint.
"Welp....that sucked," Kavan remarked before laughing.
"The correct wire was green!" Lindsay announced, "Kavan and Zeyad, you're out!"
"Can I go shower?" Zeyad requested.
"I would," Lindsay admitted, "Be sure to double condition!"
*adjusts towel on head* "That was a lot messier than I thought it'd be. And it was such a waste of good paint!"- Zeyad
"Again, I thought that it was blue. Maybe my glasses need changing."- Kavan
"Time for round 3!" Duncan declared, "We're upping the difficulty!"
For this round, a sequence of five wires was shown, specifically being blue, yellow, red, yellow, and pink. The knowledge that the round would be harder made the remaining five campers pay closer attention, but almost all of them were caught off guard by the double appearance of yellow in the sequence, nearly messing with their thought processes.
"Cut the wire that was in between the yellow wires!" Duncan ordered.
"The yellow wires actually helped me remember it; when I first saw it, the two yellow wires surrounded a red one, and it reminded me of the McDonald's logo. Random, but ain't complaining." *laughs*- Veronica
"The reappearance of yellow surprised me a bit, but it didn't make me forget that the 3rd colour was red."- Daniel
"The double yellow really threw me off. It actually made me forget the order."- Alina
"I knew that it was either blue or red, but I couldn't remember which one it was, so I did eeeny, meeny, miny, moe."- Spencer
"Honestly, the increase in the number of wires was more difficult than the double yellow, but I managed to remember which one to cut."- Karlie
"Get ready to blow up," Duncan declared, laughing a little bit, "Ready, set, cut!"
Without hesitation, the five remaining campers cut their selected wires, and immediately moved to protect themselves from the blast. However, Alina was the only one who needed to do so; while she cut the blue wire, the other four campers chose red, resulting in her being blasted with a forceful wave of paint.
"Agh..." Alina groaned as she removed her goggles, "Why couldn't they give us raincoats or something?"
"It's not raining!" Lindsay answered, not fully understanding Alina, "Anyways, the correct wire was red! Alina, you're eliminated!"
"Wait a minute!" Duncan exclaimed as he pointed to the losers' bench, where Kavan sat alone, "Where's everyone else?"
"They went to wash off the paint," Kavan answered, "I just want to see who gets sprayed."
"I'm just gonna go here," Alina declared as she ran into the water and began wiping the paint off of herself.
"If you want to know how that feels, imagine being sneezed on by an elephant. It's not fun."- Alina
"Round four, people!" Duncan declared, "Be careful on this one!"
Duncan didn't care if the remaining campers were careful; with him doing most of the narration for the challenge, he tapped into his inner host. As for the campers, they were too focused on memorizing the sequence to notice him. As far as difficulty, it was unchanged from the last round; it was still only five colours (yellow, pink, red, green, orange). It was the description for which wire to cut that was difficult.
"You must cut the wire without stripes that wasn't shown," Duncan declared.
"I had to pause for a bit because I had to actually look at the solid colour wires and see which ones I hadn't cut, but I settled on one."- Daniel
"I'm looking at my wires, and the only 'one-colour' wires that were left were Pink, Yellow, and Blue. I thought it was blue."- Veronica
"I was entirely unsure if the blue one was right, but I went with it."- Karlie
"This was bad because we had to think about which one wasn't in the sequence, and thinking about that made me forget the sequence all together!"- Spencer
"This one's gonna be big," Duncan remarked, "Ready, set, cut!"
With a slight hesitation, everyone cut their selected wires. This was the first time in the challenge that no one was 100% certain that they were right, leaving them anxiously waiting for a bomb to explode. For three of them, they were lucky enough to have picked the right wire. But for one of them, they were punished for their mistake with a wall of paint, coating the entire front of their body.
"That....actually hurt a little bit," Spencer admitted as he wiped his goggles clear of paint.
"The correct wire was blue!" Lindsay revealed, "Spencer, you're out!"
"Yeah, I got that," Spencer agreed.
"This was the one challenge that I had a real shot at winning. Who knows if another memory challenge will happen later on? Man....this sucks..."- Spencer
"Let's start round 5!" Duncan declared, "Prepare for a big one!"
When Duncan mentioned 'big one', what he was referring to was the number of wires in the sequence. Unlike the previous rounds, the sequence had seven wires in it, specifically red, blue, pink, yellow, green, orange, and pink again. There were no real surprises for the remaining campers; they just continued memorizing and hoping that they could recall the sequence.
"Cut the wire that was in the middle of the sequence!" Duncan ordered.
"The list had all solid colours, so I knew that it was either pink or yellow, since those were the only solid wires left that I hadn't cut. After that, I just went with my gut feeling."- Veronica
"This one was a bit harder since there were seven wires to choose from, but I genuinely felt that yellow was the right choice."- Daniel
"I think I was a little distracted thinking 'when is it gonna end' when there were more than five wires shown. I wasn't sure if I picked the right one."- Karlie
"Remember: close your mouths!" Duncan warned, "Ready, set, cut!"
With that, the three remaining campers cut their wires and simultaneously covered their faces in caution. The watching campers (which were only Kavan, Alina, & Spencer) kept their eyes on the remaining campers, eager to see which one of them would get covered in paint. But to everyone's surprise, none of the bombs exploded.
"Uh....I'm sooooo confused..." Lindsay admitted.
"The correct wire was yellow!" Duncan announced, "And I guess you all got it right!"
"How are they so good at this?" Spencer whispered to Kavan.
"They're smart, I guess," Kavan admitted.
"Personally, I hope that Karlie wins immunity. According to her, Veronica & Daniel might be the targets for the vote, so it's best if Karlie wins so we can keep our options open."- Spencer
"Time for round six!" Duncan declared, "Let's see if this one trips you up."
This round was where the campers were hit with multiple twists. To start, this round introduced wires that were more than one colour. This made the sequence of pink, red & black, red & white, and green & black wires harder to remember. In addition, with the reduction of wires from seven to four, the campers were caught off guard, directing their attention away from remembering the sequence.
"Cut the first multi-coloured wire shown!" Duncan ordered.
"I was stuck between the pink & black wire and the red & white wire. I had no clue which one it was, so I guessed."- Karlie
"This is where things got tough. I knew that the striped wires would appear eventually, so I took more time to assure myself that my choice was the right one."- Daniel
"At that point, I didn't know how much longer I could keep going. I was just hoping that both of them would blow up." *chuckles*- Veronica
"This oughta' be good..." Duncan muttered, "Ready, set, cut!"
With that, the three remaining campers cut their selected wire. Considering that the round increased in difficulty, everyone was expecting someone to get blown up. And their assumptions were justified when Karlie's bomb exploded soon after the wires were cut, leaving her as colourful and messy as a Jackson Pollock painting.
"Aww man..." Karlie remarked as she looked at her ponytail, "This is gonna be a pain to get out..."
"The correct wire was red & black!" Lindsay revealed, "Karlie, you're out!"
"I got so far in that challenge that I really thought that I could win. But now that I'm out, I'm praying that Daniel wins so Veronica, Kavan, & Dallas can't target him."- Karlie
"This is it; all that stands in between Roni and immunity is Daniel's brain. I hate to be cheering against my best friend, but I need Roni to win this one. Sorry dude!"- Kavan
"Time for round seven, which might be the final round!" Duncan noted, "Remember: one of you two will win immunity!"
Knowing that there was only one person standing in their way of immunity brought the motivation within the remaining campers higher than it had ever been before. But they didn't think about that; all that they were focused on was the new sequence: green & black, red & white, green & white, and pink & black.
"Cut the wire that was in between the green ones," Duncan ordered.
"I knew that this was a do or die moment; I had the perfect opportunity to win my first individual immunity challenge of the season, and I had to hope that I picked the right wire."- Daniel
"I wasn't entirely sure because there were so many combinations to memorize, but I knew that I had to pick something, so I went with the red & white wire."- Veronica
"Let's see if we have a winner," Duncan remarked, "Ready, set, cut!"
Precisely on cue, Daniel & Veronica cut their respective wires. With arguably two of the most dominant returnees being the final two in the challenge, everyone present was waiting for one of the two remaining bombs to explode, but none of them did. After almost fifteen seconds of silence, Lindsay broke the tension and the silence.
"Looks like you both cut the red & white wire," Lindsay rationalized, "Nice job!"
"They're good," Alina commented.
"That's why they were invited back," Karlie pointed out.
"These two both seem to want immunity really bad. I hope Daniel wins; I think he needs it more."- Alina
"I really hope that Veronica wins. I don't want either of them to win, but if I have to choose one of them, I want Daniel out more than I want Veronica out; Daniel had the chance to work with Zeyad & I and he just turned his back on us. I don't want that kind of player here."- Spencer
"Looks like we're heading to round eight," Duncan announced, "Let's see what we've got for you both."
The sequence for this round was definitely the most difficult one that they've faced so far. It was pink & black, pink & white, red & black, blue & black, and blue & white. With five different combinations of colours to memorize, it pushed the limits of what the two remaining campers were able to remember. It was a tough round for two tough competitors.
"Cut the wire in between the wires with the black stripes," Duncan ordered.
"I've been waiting for that moment for a while; it was my chance to prove that I could step up to the plate and beat Daniel. All I needed to do was cut the right wire."- Veronica
"I briefly considered throwing it to take the target off my back, but by then, I reached the point of no return. I knew that if I lost, I could be targeted for being a physical threat. I had to channel much of my brain power into assuring myself that I was cutting the correct wire."- Daniel
"Maybe this time something will happen," Duncan commented, "Ready, set, cut!"
After a brief pause by both campers, the two competitors cut their respective wires before returning to their closed-up position. Everyone was silent as they waited for one of the bombs to explode. After roughly five seconds of waiting with no results, everyone was ready to continue when one of the bombs went off, splattering one of the campers with a gratuitous amount of paint. While it seemed like an accident at first, it certainly wasn't; one camper cut the correct wire, and one didn't.
"Damn it!" Veronica screamed as she ripped her goggles off her head and tossed them to the side.
"Yes!" Daniel exclaimed as he thrust his fists up into the air.
"The correct wire was pink & white!" Lindsay revealed, "Congrats Danielle! You won immunity!"
Daniel didn't care that Lindsay got his name wrong; all that mattered at that moment was that he managed to beat out eight other campers to win immunity. After what he went though in the game; losing his best friend, being hospitalized, and watching his girlfriend get evacuated, this was the first time that he was able to fully relax, knowing that he couldn't be voted out.
"Here you go, man," Duncan congratulated as he tossed Daniel the Golden Marshmallow necklace.
"Thanks," Daniel thanked as he put the necklace around his neck.
*holds up Golden Marshmallow necklace* "It wasn't easy, but that makes it all worth it. Amalia, if you're watching this from Playa de Losers or some hospital in Newfoundland, I'm doing this for you! I love you, and I'm gonna win this!"- Daniel
"I had the necklace in my grasp and it was yanked away from me at the last second! Man...I just can't seem to beat that dude. But I guess I gotta put this frustration towards getting out my other targets: Callie & Alina."- Veronica
"Daniel winning actually makes my plan a bit better. Now that he's safe, I can focus on protecting Callie & Alina, which is a lot easier than protecting Daniel."- Karlie
"Group hug!" Karlie exclaimed as her, Kavan, & Spencer, all of whom were covered in paint, began to run towards Daniel.
"AHHHHHHH!" Daniel screamed, laughing as the trio chased him into the forest.
"Uh....now what?" Lindsay asked to Duncan, who just shrugged his shoulders.
"I've got this one," Chris assured as he stepped into view of the main camera, "That challenge definitely exploded with excitement. How will Daniel's victory affect the strategies of the other campers? And who will be voted out next? Find out after the break, right here, on Total...Drama...Double Trouble!"
