As they continue to run through the sand, Katri could hear the guards behind them yelling while searching for them. But she was pretty sure they lost them a little bit ago, for now anyway. They had made it up the hill and searched for any type of shelter until she heard Teresa speak up.

"In here!"

Everyone stopped for a moment to catch their breath, and then turns to her seeing her jumping through a window. Thomas began sliding down the hill with everyone trailing behind him, when Katri finally made it down the hill, Newt caught her before she stumbled into someone. Katri then heard Thomas freaking out.

"We gotta go! We gotta keep going!"

Katri sighs and walks up to him, gently setting her hand on his shoulder. "No, Thomas..." She whispers to him making him look at her.

"You need to tell us what's going on!" Teresa spoke, looking at him as well.

Thomas then looks around to everyone, then puts his hands in his head and paced around a little. "It's W.I.C.K.E.D. They lied to us. We never escaped." Thomas explained to all his friends. "Me and Aris, we found bodies. Too many to count..."

"What do you mean? Dead Bodies?" Minho questions.

Thomas shoots his hand down and grabs Katri's making her jump a little bit while she looks at him. "No, but they weren't alive either. They had them strung up, tubes coming out of them. They were being drained." Thomas continues explaining. "There's something inside of us that W.I.C.K.E.D wants. Something in our blood. So, we have to get as far away from them as possible."

Katri, in the corner of her eye, saw Teresa rubbing the back of her neck. Raising a brow, she didn't ask questions but then looked at Newt who looks at her and she shrugs.

"Okay, so what's the plan?" asks Newt looking at Thomas. Thomas didn't say anything, he just looked at the ground. Clearly, he didn't have a plan. "You do have a plan, right?"

"Yeah..." Thomas mutters quietly. "I don't know."

"Well," Katri spoke and looks at him. "We followed you out here, Thomas and now you're saying you have no idea where we're going or what we're doing!" Katri rips her hand away from his taking a step back while he looks at her. "Thomas, we have to think of something!"

Thomas then looks back at the ground, pursing his lips. Then, Aris spoke. "Wait, Janson said something about people hiding in the mountains. Some kind of resistance or army."

"The Right Arm," Thomas nodded, looking at Aris before looking at everyone. "If they're really against W.I.C.K.E.D, maybe they can help us."

Everyone nodded but clearly, Newt and Katri didn't like the idea and Newt spoke to him. "People. In the mountains. Mountain people. That's your plan?"

"It's the only chance we have," Thomas defended.

Shaking her head, Katri pinched her lips hard against one another, before she could say something, Winston caught their attention, and they all turn to him seeing him crouched down with a flashlight in hand looking down at the sand. Everyone walks towards him seeing what he was looking at. They all saw footprints leading somewhere.

"Someone's been here..."

Everyone began following the footprints into a small convenient store, or what used to be a store. The teens quickly separated and Katri went around to find some clothes and when she did, she went somewhere that no one saw her, and she changed into a grey tank top that stopped just above her stomach, a lose brown coat and blue faded, ripped jeans with her same socks and brown boots. She found a couple more knives to put in her garter belt and put on a black wrist cuff that hid a small knife.

Katri then found a small backpack and began filling it with necessary items they'll need and could be useful on their trip. Sighing a little bit, she went back to everyone where they got flashlights, when Katri found them, she grabbed a couple and stuck them in her bag. She then followed everyone out of the store and into the mall as she looked around after fixing her messy ponytail.

Pinching her lips when she sees the lights turn on and her heart dropped into her stomach. She quickly ran to Newt and touched his shoulder as he stood up.

"What's going on?" Winston asks.

"I don't know." Frypan answered.

"We need to run, now." Katri told them as she began ushering them to go. "Teresa! Aris! Let's go!" Katri gently pushed Newt and Winston to go. She then heard familiar yells and footprints.

"Hey! Hey!"

Katri sees in the distance a running Thomas and Minho going towards them, rounding the corner. "Run! Go!"

Katri's eyes widen when she sees figures chasing them. They were screeching and croaking loudly, and she began running after her friends with her two other friends behind her. She stumbled after rounding a corner, but Thomas catches her, grabbing her hand gently and they continue to run.

"Thomas! Minho! What the hell are those things?!" Winston yells in question.

"I don't know." Thomas answered. "Just keep going!"

They made it to the stairs, turning a corner from the balcony only to meet another one of those things. It started coming towards them as Aris walked to it. Katri was shocked and widens her eyes.

"Aris! No!"

Aris hit it in the leg making it fly towards Teresa as she backs onto some stairs, Katri lets go of Thomas's hand and rushes to Teresa's aide quickly. While Thomas guides the other ones away with the others. Katri stood in front of Teresa grabbing her knife keeping in front of her. Teresa watched Katri as she swings her knife hitting the thing in the face making it screech loudly.

Katri and Teresa quickly rush off as Thomas kicks another one down the stairs and the three ran up the stairs reuniting with the others. Katri looks back seeing nothing following them right now as Thomas gently grabs her hand as they continue running.

"Newt!" She hears someone shout. Katri deeply frown as she stops and quickly turns around, ignoring the tug on her arm from Thomas seeing her best friend pinned to the ground with one of those things on top of him.

"No! Newt!" Katri screamed rushing to him ignoring the calls from Thomas and Teresa. Katri quickly kicked the thing off of him and out the window and she helps him up and they all began running again turning into a skinny hallway. "Newt, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Kat!" Newt assured her as she and Newt were behind the group as they ran quickly.

They were met by just walls at the end of the hallway, Katri looks around trying to find a way out. She then saw Thomas trying to open some doors and Katri rushed up to help him break the lock on the other side.

"Get us out of here, Thomas!"

Thomas and Katri both started kicking the door more still trying to break the lock. "I'll hold them back!" Winston tells them before gunshots rang through the place. They continue kicking and trying to push their way out the door as Winston continues shooting at the things. These must be the Cranks Janson was talking about... "Come on! Get that door open!"

"Move!" Frypan shouted, Thomas and Katri both moved before he ran into the doors finally opening them.

"Come on Frypan! Let's go!"

"Come on! It's open!"

Everyone ran through, Winston being the last to follow. Right as Winston went through the door, one of the Cranks grabbed him causing him to fall down as it pulled him back. Katri twisted to see what was going on only to see Frypan and Newt grabbing him before he was fully gone as Thomas and Minho held the doors closed so the things won't get through. Katri watched as the Cranks scratched Winston on his torso making her gasp as his skin and some flesh was peeling off when he cried out in pain.

Frypan and Newt got him up to his feet helping him along and away from those Cranks as Aris, Teresa and Katri run with them. Thomas and Minho following close behind after them. After a little bit, they found some concrete to hide under as the Cranks continue to search for them. Everyone stayed quiet, listening to the screeching and croaking going on around them. Slowly, one by one they began falling asleep. Katri slowly began falling asleep and her head fell on Thomas's shoulder gently and sleep consumed her.

Katri felt Thomas shift and Katri slowly woke up watching him shift around and stand up. Katri stood up with him and stretched her back.

"Thomas, are you okay?" Thomas looked at her incredulously and she sighs a little bit closing her eyes rubbing her palms together. "Sorry, not the greatest question to ask. I know you're not okay with everything going on..."

"Don't worry about it..." Thomas mutters as she walks to him and stands in front of him. Just standing at his just below his chin. "Are you okay?"

"If I'm going to be honest, no. I'm not okay. Everything feels like it's happening so quick..." Katri whispers to him as she begins rubbing her arm slightly. "I can't keep up and I feel like I'm failing on saving our friends..."

Thomas touches her chin and brings her head to look at him as she looks at him with tears welling her eyes. Thomas begins to lean in, and she leans in too while their eyes begin closing but before they could kiss, a bird began making noise making Thomas and Katri jump away from one another, and Thomas growls and turns around.

"Hey! Hey! Get out of here!" Thomas shoos the bird and the bird flies away making Thomas sigh and everyone began waking up.

"Are they gone?" Newt questions sitting up.

Katri looks around before answering. "Yeah, I think we're safe for now."

Thomas looks at everyone. "Okay, we should get moving,"

Everyone nodded as everyone else got up and began grabbing their bags. Katri heard someone groan in pain making her turn and see Winston still on the ground before Frypan helped him up. Katri frowns but they begin walking and moving to get away from what just happened.
