Chapter 28

Annabeth woke up tot he sound of chains rattling. The ghostly echoes bouncing off of the walls of what she could already tell was a small cell of some kind, for prisoners more likely. She sneaked a glance at her surroundings but all she saw was pitch-black darkness thanks to wherever she was getting little to no light what-so-ever. A small test to on the chains also told her that there was no getting these off anytime soon. Sure she could probably try to dislocate her thumb and slip her hands out, but what else would she be doing from there? Banging on the walls or floor of her cell until she was found out again and re-chained?

Annabeth decided to just open her eyes fully to take in her surroundings, and it took a moment but there was a small sliver of light coming in from somewhere behind her that allowed her eyes to adjust to the room better. It seemed that she was in a small cell about five feet wide and long, but barely six feet tall. She was laid on a bed of stone with barely enough room to sit on the edge of and hold her head for a few moments.

The ghostly sound of rattling chains sounded through out the area again and drew Annabeth's attention to the right wall of her cell. Where a small gap about three feet high and only a half foot across with a lattacework of an equally black material made reaching into said area impossible. There she saw a small fury creature walking in circles in the center of their cell, except their's had no platform to sleep on and the chain was anchored at a single spot on the floor.

"What are you doing?" Annabeth asked surprising herself with how hoarse her voice sounded and the furry creature looked at her for a moment before continuing to move in circles...walking on two feet. Annabeth was about to ask again but decided against it and just decided to lean against the wall next to the small window and gather her bearings. Oh what she would do for a little water right about...She was brought out of the thought by the memory of Percy and how he must've felt right now. He probably thought that her getting captured had been a set up, and he was also probably blaming himself as usual.

"If you're wanting water you're going to find it's not going to be coming" a voice in the cell wit the furry creature said suddenly, "There's some kind of annoying side effect these cells have where it keeps us hungry, and thirsty, but we're unable to die or harm ourselves. Not to mention the chains are invincible." Annabeth thought about it for a moment. Such an enchantment makes sense to have for prisoners of war, or something like that, and his voice sounded equally as hoarse as her's did. Wait. The furry creature could speak her language?

"You understood me?" Annabeth asked with slight shock looking over her shoulder to see that the creature had stopped pacing and it's shoulders sagged with a sigh.

"Why does everyone always ask that?" He said and turned to look at her, "Look I don't know that you did to get here but I don't want to get all chatty with you just because we're stuck in neighboring cells next to each other? Got it?"

"Okay I guess we can spend the rest of our unforeseen amount of time in a stretching silence that will last for until something interesting happens." Annabeth quipped and turned her attention to studying her cell to see if there was anything there she could work with or use to gather anything about where they were or how to escape. From what she could tell it seemed they were all kept in two person cells with only one window between neighbors and no other areas or forms of contact available to anyone else outside of these cells.

There was no indication of anyone being on the other side of the solid walls above, below, and to the right of her cell or the left of whatever-they-were's cell either. The front, or what she assumed was the front of the cells by the metal bars criss-crossing it's entire length, weren't much better as she couldn't reach an arm through to study what kind of lock mechanism or frame the door held. So with this and a few more other things crossed out she decided to play with the chains on her arms, and the one on her leg, a little.

Annabeth found out that her chains came from a little hold in the base of her 'bed' and they seemingly extended for as long and as far as she could haul up chain for...which did not seem like a good thing to let a prisoner have available to use at their leisure.

"I wouldn't think about using the chains on your legs for anything either." The creature in the other cell said again, "It seems that they put someone in an open cell below us and connect at least one of the chains we're connected to them with a collar of sorts, so don't be surprised if you think you're pulling on slack chain and suddenly a body covers the hole." Annabeth dropped the chain of her leg in shock and tried to look through the hole leading down, but the angle kept it so that she wasn't able to see the entire way down.

"Oh but there's also a high chance that it's just a rock and not someone's neck as well since, you know, we can't actually tell what it is we're pulling up" The voice chuckled darkly adding, "Or whoever or whatever you are attached to is either already dead or not a completely sentient organism and just a moving contraption mean to break our minds and prevent the odds of successful escapes."

"I thought we weren't going to be talking?" Annabeth said and the voice went silent for a while.

"Okay fine!" The voice exploded after a few minutes of silence, "I have been stuck here for the past week with no one to talk to and nothing to do so I apologize for trying to set the mood a little."

"Is there anything I can call you?" Annabeth asked going over to the window and looking down at the furry creature. "Other then 'Talking Furry Creature' anyways?"

For a moment there Annabeth through that she saw the white flint of teeth before it disappeared as quickly as she'd seen it, and she didn't want to assume anything just yet.

"My name's Rocket" the creature, Rocket, said and Annabeth looked at him a little closer now that the small being was easier to see.

"You're a raccoon right?" She asked and the small bipedal fluff-ball looked at her pointedly, "I'm not going to ask why you can speak or walk like that so well but I do want to ask what else you know about this place. Does anyone come and check on prisoners? Do they have a way of monitoring us somehow? Do you know the material these bars --"

"Whoa whoa. Slow down there lady>." Rocket said putting up a hand and a small finger, Annabeth stopped talking and looked at him expectantly. "To answer your questions: No, I don't know, and no. Now stop talking." Annabeth narrowed her eyes at his metallic spine but left the view of the window and returned to leaning on the wall next to it.

She wouldn't be strong enough to break the bars, walls, or chain. There was no way she was going to be lifting up whatever it was her leg was attached to just to see what it was, or who, and there was definitely no way to contact the others or know where they even were in the first place. She could be somewhere in the middle of space for all she knew and there was nothing she could use to make use of her surroundings.

A glint of light caught the corner of her eye and she saw what looked like a flash of metal from the cell with the talking raccoon. Annabeth turned to look at what was happening over there and she saw him take some sort of long stick from his forearm and start swinging it around wildly.

"Hey how much force are you able to generate with a bunch?" She asked and Rocket's ears twitched. "I assume with that metal spine you have some sort of cybernetic enhancements and a few hidden weapons as by whatever that it, but have you tried to use any of them yet?" Rocket whirled towards her with a snarl.

"Of course I've tried to use things!" He growled and hit the metal rod against the cross-hatching of bars at the front of their cells. "I've tried to bend and break the chain in so many ways, and I've even had to kill the stupid creature I was chained to because they would've stop dragging me to the center of the floor! That ruined a few of my favorite tools."

"What do you mean ruined?" Annabeth asked and the raccoon went over somewhere she couldn't see and grabbed a tool to show her. It looked like a sort of advanced hammer or sorts but the sharp part of the head had been melted away by something acidic.

"That's an acidic substance," Annabeth said pointedly, "If that's mealted through your tools it might be strong enough to corrode enough of the bars for you to slip out and look around." Rocket looked at his tool for a moment before groaning and throwing the tool in the direction he'd grabbed it from.

"Ah dammit why didn't I notice that earlier?!" He growled and looked at the chain connected to his waist annoyed.

"If it's true that we aren't being monitored, and that no one comes to check on the prisoners you can use a little of whatever that thing was's blood to take off your harness and hopefully melt a hole in the bars." Annabeth relayed but Rocket just grunted in frustration as he hauled up the body of whatever he was attached to.

Annabeth was a little surprised with the raccoon's strength but figured that it came with being a cybernetically enhanced creature, and he's probably built up enough muscle to do strange things like so anyways. Plus it seemed like the creature hadn't been disposed of yet, and it might have been lighter than she expected. Hopefully the acidity of it's blood would be still as effective though she didn't know how the raccoon was going to go about getting it's blood out.

He hauled the thing up for a good ten minutes before it hit the edge of it's chain and he went about doing something that she wasn't able to see. A few minuted later there was a cracking noise and the sound of something ripping. Then the ground underneath Rocket exploded upwards and he hauled up a strange looking creature into the area with him before falling on his back breathing hard.

"I'm never doing that again" Rocket breathed out and Annabeth studied the creature he'd hauled up. It seemed to be some kind of dog-like creature but it's color seemed a pale green and the head looked like more of a tulip than that of a canid 's. Actually it looked like that strange creature from a show she'd seen a few trailers and clips of not too long ago on Earth, the TV show called them Demogorgons or something.

Rocket got up somewhere in her thoughts and while he had to work around the giant hole in his cell he was able to rip off it's head and smear the blood still gushing out on his waist band. A sizzling noise soon followed and after a few more applications he was able to squeeze his way out of the harness and look through the hole in his floor. The only thing he said was "huh" before leaping forwards out of the hole and Annabeth really hoped that he hadn't just leapt to his death doing that.

Hi everyone. I have updated once again!

Anyways it was a bit hard to determine who I wanted this chapter to be in the Perspective of but I figured it out eventually. I also did a little research on Rocket's character and learned that he had a soulmate named Lylla...that was all I had gotten from it other than he's a lab experiment of another planet's society twice removed.

This chapter was going to lead on to her and him being stuck in those cells for a few more days so I could think of something else interesting I could make happen but I think that the turn out of winging it here was decent in the end. If you have any suggestions as to how they can get back to Earth please say something.

I know that this chapter is a little short compared to the other's but I still hope you enjoyed reading...

...I'll see y'all next time!
