A Single Shadow on the Wall
Sometimes the littlest movement would bring on the strongest of pains. A sharp stab in just the right crevices of my insides. Like talons trying to rip out my liver.
The air around me was so heavy. Yet my hand reached out like it was nothing at all.
Lace tickled at my skin. The music continued to play. The colors of fresh blood and aging Bird's of Paradise was all around, mixed with the pigments of the bottom of the sea. Was that a slight smile on his pale lips?
Cold trickled down the back of my dress.
Our arms clasped into each other. Mine atop his strong muscles like the weight was of no significance. My eyes stayed focused on him.
That golden glow and steely stare.
Each step weighted down with increasing strength. The sounds of the string instruments played lighter and lighter. All the colors blended in as people stood up, to greet us as our movements led us closer toward the door.
I felt like Prometheus and before me was the eagle. Ready to take every emotion I had for a ride I'd never be able to get off of.
We moved faster than the music could take.
With the door opening just in time.
Doves take off.
The sun blares into my eyes. The stabbing grows worse. The gold around my finger tightens like a noose.
I wish I could be blinded and left to carry the world instead.
