Chapter Five

"ZAC" My eyes widened at his words. I picked up a cushion next to me and threw it at him. He shielded himself quickly, catching it in his hands and dropping it to his lap, "I'm serious, Hols. Is that why he hates me so much?"

My cheeks warmed at the memory.

"Stop thinking about me naked" He frowned.

"I'M NOT!" I almost screamed it, "And no he doesn't know. He'll never know and I told you not to bring it up"

"Why?"

"Why do you think?"

"You enjoyed it"

"I have a boyfriend, Isaac. Please respect that and drop this conversation. His naked body is the only one I want to think about, thank you"

He cocked his head to the side, "I don't respect him"

"Then respect my wishes" I sighed, "What we did that night was a mistake"

"You can't blame it on drink. I wouldn't have done it with you if you were drunk"

"Just because I wasn't drunk, doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake"

"Weren't you the one who loved me?"

"I had a crush on you when we were little but only because you were the only nice guy who helped me"

"Really? I remember you saying you loved me. Naila and Kaiden even told me too"

"I was a kid, I didn't know what love meant idiot"

"Are you salty because I rejected you?"

"You didn't not reject me. I remember because it was the first time I admitted to someone I had a crush on them, it was a big moment for me"

"Aww, it's that important, you still remember it"

"No, you just twisted my words" I let out a sigh, "Thank god I met Max"

He rolled his eyes, "I don't know what you see in him"

"Kindness, cuteness, caring, loving" I listed, "Do you want me to continue?"

"And they all make up for his small-"

"Isaac"

"What?"

"What happened to you?"

"Uh...?"

"You used to be so polite and had such lovely manners. I thought you'd grow up to be a gentleman"

"I am a gentleman"

"Far from it" I rolled my eyes, "Wasn't I the troublemaker when we were younger? How times have changed"

"Yeah, now you're boring"

"Okay, that's a lie"

"Let's go to Ibiza next week"

"What the heck?! no! Are you insane?"

"See? Old Hollie would have done that"

"What do you mean see? Old Hollie didn't have a boyfriend, Old Hollie didn't know how to spend money the right way. I'm logical Hollie now! I have two jobs"

"I was going to pay though. I forgot you had to ask your boyfriend permission to go places"

"How do you run your own company when you're so stupid? When we were younger, you always told me what to do. Remember I wanted to hang out with Dillon and you were dead set on not allowing me"

"You're the stupid one staying in that type of relationship. We were kids then and Dillon was dumb"

"What is your problem with Max, Zac? You're so annoying. There is literally nothing wrong with him, can' you just be happy for me? I don't care you date"

"I can't"

I let out a frustrated sigh, "You're supposed to be my best friend and you just make my relationship feel like crap"

"Because it is"

"You know what? Fuck you, Isaac. Just because you can't keep a relationship doesn't mean all other guys are the same. Max doesn't just wonder around, having one night stands so shut up or get out" I was red in the face when I finished.

"That was uncalled for. I don't sleep around"

"I'm not messing, Zac"

"Fine" He stood up and began to walk past me, "I'm sorry for angering you"

My teeth gritted together for a second before I grabbed him, "It's okay" I sighed, "I'm sorry for getting mad so easily. It's just annoying when two of my favorite people hate each other"

He watched me for a second then sat back down, "I'm sorry, Hollie. I hate when I upset you"

"Then don't upset me, dumbhead" I lay down on the couch, resting my feet on his legs.

"Can I ask something?"

"Okay"

"Why was it a mistake?"

"What?" I looked over to him with a confused expression.

"When we had se-"

"Zac! We just-"

"Seriously. You were single at the time, you had no boyfriend. You didn't have a problem with it beforehand, you never said you regretted it. Is it because you're with Max now?"

"No" I sighed, "You're my friend, it was a mistake. I was worried it would weird things out after. I was sexually frustrated back then"

"But it didn't make-"

"Does it matter if it was a mistake or not? It was a one time thing"

He watched me for a moment before shaking his head, "I suppose it doesn't"

"Can you try to be friends with Max?" I asked him after the silence filled the room for too long. He turned to me, his brow furrowing, staring as if I had four heads.

"Okay, you're insane"

"He did nothing to you"

"Except be a horrible human being that stopped me from seeing my best friend"

"We're hanging out right now"

"Does he know?"

"No"

"Are you going to tell him or do you plan on it at all?"

"No..."

"Are you going to hide all evidence I was here?"

"Yes..."

"And do you feel guilty or bad?"

"No... maybe. Okay, a bit"

He arched an eyebrow, shooting me an 'I told you so' look, "See?"

"He never said I couldn't actually see you...."

"But he gets annoyed and angry at you when you do right? The healthiest thing in a relationship"

I rolled my eyes, "Not angry at me. He just gets a bit upset, more at you than anyone"

"You're seriously trying to argue. Your argument is so bad right now, to the point everything you're saying is basically irrelevant"

"You're irrelevant" I scowled, "Zac, if he liked and trusted you, we could hang out more. Wouldn't you like that?"

"Ooh, third-wheeling. Sounds exciting, how could I turn down that offer? Do I get to record if-"

"That's not what I meant" I threw my eyes up to the sky, "I'm serious, I mean it. If he likes you, he'll trust you more and we can hang out again. Just the two of us, like we used to"

His expressions lightly changed but when he raised my eyebrows, it told me that he didn't believe me. Not that he didn't believe me, that he didn't believe Max would actually follow through.

"Please" I begged, putting on a fake pout, "Just be friends and he'll trust you with me! He just doesn't know you and kind of hates you, it's the only reason he doesn't like us hanging out"

He sighed, shaking his head in frustration before finally raising his hands as if surrendering, "Fine... I'll try to but he better pull his weight too. I'm serious Hollie, if he doesn't try, I'm out"

"Yes! I WILL TELL HIM TOO!" I almost yelled it. It was concerning how excited I was over something like this. I know it seemed unhealthy, it kind of was even.

I understood where Max was coming from though. If I hated some girls and didn't trust her, I wouldn't want him going near her. If I found out they were chilling alone at the house, I'd probably rip her eyeballs out.

Or was that going to far.

My eyes went back up to a smiling Zac, which caused my own smile to grow bigger. I jumped up and pulled him into a tight hug, "Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will love you forever and ever if this works out!"

He chuckled, wrapping his arms around me, "It's cool. You'll love me forever even if it doesn't work out"

Just when I was about to respond the door clicked open. I jumped back, tearing away from Zac and managed to look back to see who it was.

"Max?" My brow furrowed, watching my boyfriend peer around the door. His eyes were only on me for a moment before darting to where Zac was sitting. There was confusion on his face when he was watching me but the moment both him and Zac made eye contact everything changed.

Pure and utter anger. Fury. His eyes were basically on fire.

"You son of a-"

"Max! Max, no! Stop!" I jumped up and ran in front of him to stop him from attacking Zac. He came to a halt but glared down at me. He tried to understand what was going on before jumping to his own conclusion. I know what it looked like.

"Why are you here? What is he doing here?!"

"It's not what you think, babe. He just came over to keep me company" I placed my hands on his chest to try hold him in place. When the words slipped from my mouth I realized how stupid they were.

"Company..." He pushed me aside and I stumbled but quickly caught myself, "You're still trying to get with her? Even though she has a boyfriend, even though she made it clear she doesn't want your pathetic ass. Get out of here" He snarled.

"Max! Sto-"

"It's fine, Hollie. Nothing you say to this boy will let his tiny brain understand" Zac shrugged, unfazed by the very angry Max in front of him. Everything was going wrong. I had planned for these two to be friends, to work it out and of course he came home at the wrong time.

"What did you just say to me?!"

"See, he doesn't even understand me" Zac frowned, a look of fake sympathy on his face.

"Zac-"

"I did" Max growled, "You need to understand you aren't welcome here. If you don't, you're going to meet my fist"

"Max-"

"I was welcome here until you arrived"

"You're pathetic!" Max snarled, "You really do take after your shitty parents a-"

"MAX!" I grabbed his arm, tugging it hard.

Isaac's presence suddenly changed. His usually calm manner was no gone and replaced with anger. Isaac wasn't a nice person when he was angry. He had never hurt me or actually gotten angry at me but I had seen him angry with others.

It wasn't nice.

"Z-Zac, don't"

"If you ever speak of my parents like that again" he pulled Max closer by the collar, "I'll not only ruin you, I will bury you"

Max stared at him, slightly taken a back by his whole change of charavter but still clearly annoyed.

"Also" A devious smile crept onto Zac's face. His eyes almost turned dark, "Remeber when you said I'm trying to 'fuck' Hollie..."

Oh no...

Oh no, oh no, oh no..

"Zac, don't"

"Here's a fun fact, Max. I already did" and with that he shoved Max onto the couch and stormed out of the apartment.
