My Dearest Diary,
Today I woke up with this huge grin on my face. I feel like I'm finally moving on with my life and it feels amazing! I've just finished moving in to my cozy little cabin. It's located right in between the Denali and Cullen properties. I met both families today and let me tell you...
I checked my reflection in the mirror of the car's pull down visor one more time. No lipstick on my teeth, or hair out of place, and not a single smudge of mascara could be found. As far as I was concerned, I was ready to rock.
Hopping out of the car, I tried to prepare myself for the blast of artic cold I was about to face. No, scratch that. No one could ever truly prepare for this degree of cold.
I hugged the collar of my coat closer to my face and trudged up to the door. Crinkling my nose, I cringed at the sight of my ugly snow covered boots. How could anybody look fashionable in this place, I wondered.
As I walked up the steps, I immediately jumped back as the door in front of me unexpectedly swung open. I was greeted by two smiling faces and fours sets of hands, pulling me into the unfurnished entry of the mansion.
"You must be Evie!" one of the two women exclaimed.
"Hurry up and get in here before you catch cold," said the other.
The two women promptly shut the door and offered me a hand on getting out of my winter gear.
"I hope the place wasn't too hard to find," one of the women said as she took my coat. I still had no idea as to who was who.
"Not at all," I smiled. "According to Google maps you are one of only two houses up here," I explained.
"Ah, and I bet the other house is mine," replied the other woman.
Suddenly I grinned as I figured it out. "So that must make you Mrs. Cullen," I said pointing to the woman holding my coat. "And you must be Mrs. Denali?" I guessed.
"Oh goodness, yes," Mrs. Cullen exclaimed. "Where are our manners?"
As the two women confirmed their identities, I began assessing the blank space before me and smiled. With an unlimited budget and this excellent canvas, I would soon turn this mansion into a masterpiece.
"You have nine children Mrs. Cullen, is that right?" I asked.
"Yes," she replied. "And please call me Esme," she instructed. "You'll have to forgive my children," she said. "It would appear they've lost all track of time."
"As have mine," Carmen added. "I'm sure they are all together."
"That's ok, really" I replied, shrugging it off. "This way I can get a feel for the place before meeting-"
Suddenly with a bang, and a burst of artic air, the front door slammed open and a herd of people traipsed through. God, what a gene pool, I thought as I got a glimpse of them all. I hadn't noticed it before with Esme and Carmen, but every single one of them had golden colored eyes. Must be a family trait, I thought.
I couldn't help, but take a step back, as a short brunette bounced towards me. She was pretty, I noticed, with short spikey hair and a contagious smile but she made me nervous. Sticking her hand out, she introduced herself.
"Hi! I'm Alice," she exclaimed. "I have a feeling were going to be great friends," she said shaking my hand enthusiastically.
Immediately I pulled back, hissing and withdrawing my hand as though she had burned me. But it wasn't warmth that I felt, it was an almost unbearable cold. Suddenly a look crossed the girl's features, one that I had seen many times on the Bennett witch before, and I began to panic. This girl just had a vision, and most likely it was about me. How much had this witch seen?
Behind her, one of the boys head's snapped up as though he had heard my thoughts. Or maybe the girl's thoughts, I mused. There was no reason to become paranoid yet, afterall it wasn't uncommon among the Gemini Coven for siblings to communicate telepathically. Maybe the entire family was a coven of witches...
With everyone starring at me, I was growing increasingly uncomfortable when out of no where, a calming sensation washed over me. Finally, the others began shifting forward and I sighed in relief as they began to introduce themselves.
"The name's Jasper," a tall curly blonde said to me as he shook my hand. His southern accent caught me off guard, but it was oddly musical to my ears. His hand was just as cold as Alice's but this time I didn't pull back.
"He's taken, in case you were wondering," a tall brunette scoffed as she stepped forward. "And so is he," she snapped, gesturing with her eyes to the boy she was dangling off.
Wow, what a bitch.
The boy who's head had popped up earlier, chuckled nervously as he wrapped his arm around the rude girl. "I don't think you have anything to worry about," he said, pressing a kiss to her temple. "My name's Edward, by the way," he introduced himself. "And this is my wife, Bella."
"Nice to meet you," I replied, giving the most professional smile I could muster.
I was quickly introduced to the rest of the family gathered around-- Kate and Tanya both equally gorgeous and blonde, Kate's husband Garrett, Carmen's husband Eleazar, and lastly, Esme's husband Carlisle. We finished with a tan boy named Jacob and a girl with a name I would never be able to spell, let alone remember.
"So if that's everyone," I began-
"Where's Emmett?" Esme questioned, shooting a look towards her husband.
"I'm sure he'll be around shortly," Carlisle replied. Esme frowned sadly, but then nodded her head knowingly.
"So how about we give Evie a tour of the place now?" Alice suggested.
I agreed and quickly scurried to find my tablet. As I headed in the direction towards Alice, the Denali's said their good byes.
"Oh, Evie. I almost forgot," Tonya called as she turned back around. "There will be a dog sled race in a few weeks," she informed me. "Perhaps we can meet up and you could get a few pictures for our marketing campaign?"
"Of course!" I smiled. "I will definitely schedule that in." Afterall, I was working for both families.
"You know," commented Carmen, "we're planning on building several cabins all over the property," she informed me. "If you do well here, we just might have to hire you to furnish all of those too."
I couldn't help but beam. "I promise, I won't disappoint."
"I'm sure you won't," commented Eleazar. "You seem to have an eye for detail and a strong sense of strategy," he winked.
I opened my mouth, but shut it again rather quickly, realizing I had nothing to say. How could he possibly know that about me, I mused. But before I had time to question it, Alice began tugging on my arm and dragging me around the house.
I snapped multiple pictures along the way, and jotted down notes of what everyone would like to see happen in the home. Before long, we finally came to the last room in the house, Alice and Esme showing me in. I was happily twirling about, taking pictures and doing my thing when suddenly a very large man barged in to the room.
"This mine?" he barked.
"Yes," replied Esme.
As he stalked forward, further into the room, my breath hitched as I looked up and our eyes made contact. He was possibly one of the most handsome men I had ever laid eyes on. Rugged and huge, towering over me, which was hard to do at my tall 5' 10". His shoulders were broad, his stance powerful and I could tell that under his tight fitting shirt, his body rippled with muscle.
Upon further inspection, I noticed he had dark, sandy blonde hair and the most perfect complexion I'd ever seen. His strong jaw was covered with just a hint of stubble and his plump kissable lips could make any girl swoon. As a small smile tugged at the corners of his beautiful mouth, my cheeks flushed in embarrassment and I realized I had been caught starring.
"Emmett, I'd like you to meet Evie." Esme's voice pulled me out of my reverie. "She will be staying with us for a while as our interior designer," she explained.
I offered my hand and he immediately grasped it, engulfing it in his much larger one. Shivers shot up my spine as our skin made contact, but as he looked down at me, his smile quickly faded into a scowl. I took a step back, cursing silently as I swore his eyes turned black as night.
"Are we done here?" he muttered, his voice full of anger and hatred.
"I-- um--" I stuttered, his rejection of me cutting like daggers. Clearly he was related to the bitch downstairs. "Do you have any special requests for the room?" I asked, giving him a tight lipped smile.
"No." He snapped, rolling his eyes in annoyance. "Just make sure I have a TV and Xbox."
"How about a bed?" I shot back. "Or maybe you'd prefer to sit on a cardboard box?" I suggested.
I had never felt so insulted in my life, and I definitely hadn't planned to sound so rude, but something about this large grown ass man standing before me, really got under my skin.Turning on my heel, I walked out of his room. If only my hair had been a few inches longer, it might have slapped him in the face.
"We'll be staying in a cabin until you finish," Esme explained as she and Alice brought me back downstairs. "How long do you think this project will take?" she asked.
"If I start with your bedrooms," I paused doing some quick calculations in my head, "I think I can have everything finished the week before Christmas."
"Oh, that's perfect!" exclaimed Alice with a clap of her hands.
As I headed towards the door, Esme explained that I would be staying in a separate cabin on the property, then much to my disappointment she called Emmett down to help me.
"I really don't need any help--" I began as I pulled on my coat and boots.
"Nonsense," Esme exclaimed. "Emmett would be more than happy to help."
But the frown on his face spoke otherwise as I trailed behind him outside.
"I can follow you in my car if you want."
"Not in that thing your not," he snorted as he gestured to my 2016 model Audi R8. I knew it wasn't the most practical car, but it was all I had for now. "Pop the trunk and I'll take you up in this," he sighed motioning towards something that resembled a winterized all terrain vehicle.
"I can get my own luggage," I replied as we both walked around to the trunk.
"Whatever," he mumbled before walking away.
I huffed and lowered my eyes at his retreating form, but I made good on my words. Hefting my luggage up I carried my own bags over to the ATV. I made sure to hide any signs of distress and sat down next to him quite pleased with myself.
We rode in silence the entire ten minute drive, and I couldn't help but sigh in relief when my cabin came into view. Without a word, Emmett got out and grabbed hold of my luggage, placing it just inside the door. Suddenly he tossed me the keys.
"What am I supposed to do with these?" I questioned as I looked down at the keys in my hand.
"You're going to have to get back and forth somehow," he replied without so much as a glance back in my direction.
"Well how are you going to get back?" I asked.
"I'll walk."
I rolled my eyes at the back of his head as I watched him leave.
Whatever.
Maybe if I got lucky, he would freeze to death.
