Chapter 40
A few hours had passed and I was super tired. I could feel my eyes watering from how tired I was and I kept yawning, causing Guy to yawn because yawns are contagious.
I was also a bit spaced out from being tired, but I was still on guard because I wanted to make sure I'd be prepared for an enemy attacking us.
"We're here!" Kushina exclaimed, making me jump a little.
King Satoru gave us a smile. "I cannot express how thankful I am for you five escorting us over here and protecting us from those criminals,"
He then looked over at Ryota. "Are you ready?"
Ryota put a hand up as if he was telling his father to wait and walked over to me.
He put my hand into his and kissed it, then looked up at me with hopeful eyes. "Hana, I want to ask you again, will you come with me? You can be the queen after it's my time to take over the throne,"
I blushed from embarrassment because everyone was staring. His father just sighed and muttered something about how he should be focused on his duties rather than women right now. Before I could say anything, Obito spoke up first.
He pulled me away from Ryota and held onto it as if he was being protective. "She's a kunoichi of the Leaf Village and plans to stay as one. She isn't going with you and besides, why should she come with you when she barely knows you?"
He was tensing and I could feel it because his hold on my wrist was tighter. Kushina didn't intervene and just watched this, smirking.
Ryota rolled his eyes. "I think we should let her speak for herself,"
Ryota and Obito were both looking at me expectantly.
"Well?" Ryota pressed.
"Sorry, but Obito is right," I started, making Ryota huff. "I've wanted to be a ninja since I was a little girl. I'm going to become Hokage one day and I'm not going to throw my dream away just like that,"
Obito's hold on me relaxed and I could feel the heat radiating off my cheeks because he was still holding onto me.
Ryota scoffed and walked over to Satoru's side. "It was worth a try."
I started to feel awkward and we said our goodbyes. We watched them walk into the huge assembly hall and I was staring at the hall with wonder, wondering what it looks like in there.
After they were inside, we turned around to start walking back home. Obito walked next to me, but he couldn't look me in the eye. When Aunt Kushina and the others were out of earshot, I looked over at him with a small smile on my face.
"So," I said. "Looks like someone got jealous,"
Obito looked over at me, his cheeks starting to turn into a rose color. "I was not! I didn't like how creepy he was being and that's it!"
He looked away quickly and I continued to smile, feeling this warm sensation inside of me.
"I wouldn't have gone with him y'know," I said. "I don't want to be a part of a royal family and plus, Ryota isn't my type either,"
"W-Well I just needed to make sure he knew that," Obito retorted defensively.
Was Kurenai right? Was I starting to fall for him? Although, that still doesn't explain the feeling I had around Kakashi, because I felt something towards Kakashi as well.
"U-Uh, do you have an answer on the festival thing?" Obito asked shyly.
Oh no, I wasn't ready to answer that question just yet. I was still stuck on whether I should go with Kakashi or Obito. It was hard making a choice right now because I don't want to upset either of them.
"No, I'm still trying to see if I'm not busy on that day. Kushina wanted to plan a family outing and I'm not sure when that is," I lied.
Well, I wasn't totally lying.
Thankfully, he didn't notice that I was lying. "Oh, okay. Just let me know when you can,"
His eyes held a glimpse of hope and now I started to feel even worse about making him and Kakashi wait.
Maybe if I talked to Anko, Kurenai, or even Kushina, they would be able to give me some good advice. I definitely wanted to go to that festival, but I can't look forward to it when I have two people who want me to go with them.
More hours went by and I just wanted to get home already.
"We're almost there, it'll be an hour until we get to the village," Kushina said.
I sighed with relief and suddenly Guy stopped. We all looked at him with confusion and I could see his eyes burning with determination, meaning that he had something planned right now.
"I have a new training exercise," Guy said.
"Oh? What is it?" Asuma asked.
He looked over at me. Oh no...
"Hana!" Guy pointed at me. "This new exercise I have planned is going to help my stamina because I'll be carrying something while running at my full speed!"
Guy lifted me up and put me on his back as if he was going to give me a piggyback ride.
"Wait a minute Guy-"
"Let's goooo!" Guy shouted, cutting me off.
"Guy, put me down right now!"
I clung onto his back as if my life depended on it because I didn't want him to drop me.
"Hana, don't stress your youthful self out," Guy said. "If you're worried about being dropped, you don't need to worry because I won't."
Guy continued sprinting and I was still panicking.
"I don't care, put me down!" I protested.
Guy didn't listen and continued running, as I feared for my life right now.
"I swear to god if you drop me, I'm going to kill you,"
"Stress isn't good for our youth, so don't worry. I won't drop you."
"Damnit Guy!"
As time passed, we were now at the Leaf Village's gate and Guy stopped sprinting. The others finally caught up with us and Kushina laughed at how we looked. I was clinging onto Guy with messy hair looking terrified while he was completely oblivious to how scared I was and was smiling.
Guy put me down, making me stumble and then smacked his arm. This had no effect on him since he was muscular.
"Guy!" I shouted. "What the hell was that? I could've died back there!"
Okay, maybe I was exaggerating, but I felt like I was going to die.
Guy just grinned and his teeth sparkled. "You wouldn't have died and I could see that you were feeling tense, so I decided to distract you. I wouldn't have dropped you either because you're lightweight, so that was hardly a training exercise,"
I sweat-dropped. "I don't know if I should be offended by that or flattered,"
"Guy you really need to relax," Asuma sighed. "Training is good, but too much of it can result in you seriously hurting yourself."
"Nonsense," Guy shook his head. "All of this training is going to pay off when we are old, so you'll see someday Asuma! I'll be way more energetic than you and full of youth!"
Guy ended his statement with that thumbs up and his signature smile.
"Alright, let's go report to Lord Hokage about our mission and you guys will be dismissed after that so you can rest," Kushina looked over at Guy. "And you better actually get some rest instead of trying to train,"
We headed over to the Hokage's Tower and I was still wondering what I was going to do about Obito and Kakashi.
She knocked on the Hokage's door.
"Come in!" His raspy voice said.
He was doing paperwork and looked up at us. "Great to see that you guys are back. How did the mission go?"
"It went pretty well," Kushina started.
I hoped she wouldn't say anything about what we talked about last night.
"King Satoru and Prince Ryota were successfully escorted to the Land of Iron and the only trouble that we ran into is when those rogue ninjas started attacking us," Kushina reported.
"Excellent," He nodded. "That is all for today and you guys are dismissed to go back to your normal duties and to go rest."
We all walked out of the office.
"Good job guys," Kushina complimented.
Guy and Asuma left, leaving Obito and I alone.
"You're free to hang out with Obito if you'd like," Kushina smirked. "Just make sure you come home before it's dark."
I blushed at the look she gave us and I turned to Obito. "So, uh, should we get something to eat now?"
"Yeah, that sounds good," Obito nodded. "I have to admit, I miss Ichiraku after being away for that long. Your love for ramen has rubbed off on me,"
I laughed. "Looks like you finally appreciate how amazing their ramen is,"
Hanging out without worrying about Nozomi, Kuroshi, or the Chunin Exams was pretty great. Teuchi greeted us when we took our seat.
"I haven't seen you in a while, Hana. I was starting to worry that you were getting sick of our ramen," Teuchi joked.
Ayame waved at me from the back and went back to cooking.
"I just went on a mission. I could never get sick of eating ramen, especially from you guys," I chuckled and he took our orders.
I propped my arm on the counter and leaned against it after he went to the back to get our food and from the corner of my eye, I could see Obito looking in my direction.
I looked over at him and he looked away quickly.
"I was just uh, looking at the menu," He blushed. "I overheard some people talking about a new dish that they're making,"
A small smile spread onto my face when I realized that he was lying. Kurenai's words wouldn't stop echoing in my head. Was I really falling in love with him? It's hard to say because I know that only one person is supposed to make you feel that way. Not two people.
Teuchi gave us our bowls and we both reached to the small container to grab chopsticks.
"I'm glad you aren't sick of ramen," Teuchi said. "Because we're going to try some new ingredients that Ayame found while she went out with her friends. We might add some spicy ramen and some barbecue ramen."
"Spicy ramen? Barbecue ramen?" I nearly drooled at the thought of it. "I will come here first thing when it's on the menu."
As Obito and I ate, we were just talking about what our plans were when the Chunin Exams is over and how we planned to be Hokage. I said I'd rather get into the ANBU first so I could be a strong Hokage and Obito just wanted to become Hokage right away.
We also talked about how our faces would look carved onto the rock and I laughed at the thought of how Obito's goggles would look on there with his eyes.
Obito blushed out of embarrassment when he realized how silly it would look.
I also told him about the training with Jiraiya and our antics.
It was getting harder and harder for me to choose who I wanted to go to the festival with. Right now I'd say Obito, but then Kakashi started to enter my mind. I definitely needed to talk to someone about this. Maybe not Kushina since it's kind of embarrassing.
