Chapter 38

It was noon now and Kushina decided that we would take a break since we needed our full strength to continue. Guy was doing five-hundred push-ups, Kushina was making some soup at the fire, Asuma was handing a rice ball to each of us, Obito was glaring at Ryota, Ryota was smirking at Obito, and Satoru was reading over some paperwork.

I was just giving all of us fresh water.

I sat down next to Obito once I was done and looked over at him. "Are you alright?"

I suspected a reason why Obito was bothered.

"Yeah, I'm terrific," Obito replied sarcastically.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked him, hoping that he would.

I wanted to confirm whether I was right about him being upset or wrong.

"No, it's okay," Obito shook his head. "Let's start eating our lunch now. I'm starving,"

He took a bite of the riceball that Asuma handed to us and Kushina handed us all soup. I thought the soup was actually pretty good, but Ryota started complaining.

"What is this?" He put the cup of soup down. "Can't you give us something better?"

Obito rolled his eyes. "It's all we have for now. You either eat that or you're going to go hungry. Also, I'd be careful if I were you or Kushina-Sensei might get angry,"

Obito narrowed his onyx eyes at Ryota.

I was nervous now that Obito mentioned Kushina. I know how hot-headed she is and I looked over at her. She was ignoring his complaining and didn't say anything. I guess she can control that temper when she needs to. I was glad she was controlling it too because I didn't want to witness an angry Kushina again.

Ryota's baby blue eyes narrowed back at Obito. He threw the rice ball and soup onto the ground.

"I'm going hungry then,"

Obito scoffed and looked away. I patted his back in a soothing manner and saw Ryota staring with envy.

Kushina tried to break the tension. "Let's get going now. There's no doubt an enemy will catch up to us if we keep lingering around here,"

"Right," Asuma agreed.

He finished eating and walked away from the area. I assumed that he was going to go smoke another cigarette or something. He was quieter than usual.

I finished eating and we all cleaned up. I walked over to the creek to splash some water on my face and run it through my hair so I could freshen up a little. I didn't realize that someone was behind me and I jumped, but then relaxed seeing it was Asuma.

I put my hand over my racing heart. "Damnit, Asuma. Don't do that!"

He still looked serious and took a puff of his cigarette. This wasn't like him.

"Sorry, but I just needed to ask you something,"

"Okay, what is it?" I ask.

"Do you have the feeling that something is following us? I've had this feeling after we met up with King Satoru and Prince Ryota. I'm guessing whoever is following is after them," Asuma asked.

"I haven't noticed, but I think you should tell Kushina-Sensei. She may feel that way too because she's quieter than usual and she didn't snap at Ryota for complaining about her food. That's usually not like her," I replied.

"Maybe. She's probably showing respect too," He shrugged. "I'll go let her know though. Stay on guard and go let Guy and Obito know as well. I think this person may be powerful,"

Asuma and I walked back to where the others were and I couldn't help but wonder if Nozomi was following us since she's pretty powerful. What would she be doing all the way out here though?

"Are you guys ready?" Kushina asked.

"Yes, but I have some information that may be useful," Asuma said.

"What is it?" She asked.

He explained to her about what we talked about by the creek and she told us that she's been feeling it too. Since there was nothing to be done right now, all we could do is keep our guards up and continue the protective circle around the king and prince. I pulled my kunai out so I could be ready to attack.

Kushina warned me to be careful especially since it may be Nozomi. I had a feeling it wasn't though.

"If Nozomi does start something now, she'll regret it," I smirk confidently.

The blood thirst wanted to take over and I shook it off. I couldn't let that take control right now. Kushina just sighed, thinking I wasn't taking her serious and my mind went back to Kuroshi and Nozomi.

I had to complete that task he had given me, because I need to know the truth about my parents and I couldn't deny that sad look Kuroshi had on his face.

"Who's Nozomi?" Ryota asked curiously.

"Just a girl who's been trying to fight me" I answered, he just looked at me shocked because of how bluntly I answered. It's not like I had another way to sugarcoat it.

"What?! I can send my palace's guards after her. I can't let her harm a pretty little flower like you" Ryota exclaimed.

His father looked at him with a weird look and Obito narrowed his eyes.

"No," I shook my head. "This is my job to deal with her. I don't think your guards would be able to match up with her strength anyway,"

Ryota calling me a "pretty flower" was starting to make me feel awkward.

Ryota looked surprised that I had turned down his "protection".

"Fine,"

There was a puddle of water ahead and it wasn't raining. I knew that had to be an enemy because I know that technique.

"Ryota, look out!" I shouted and tackled him to the ground before he could step onto the puddle.

"Hana? What's-" Kushina started, and a creepy snicker cut her off.

"Sharp reflexes, little girl,"

The puddle turned into a body. It was a man with brunette hair and green eyes. He wore a bodysuit that normally a Rain ninja would wear.

I got up off Ryota and stepped in front of him.

"Are you trying to start a fight between the nations? Why the hell are you attacking a prince?!" I demanded.

He said nothing and that just irked me.

"No answer? Alright that's fine," I said and opened the palm of my hand, forming chakra into it. "Rasengan!"

I hit him with my rasengan and he was stunned and stumbled backward.

Someone punched me on the head. "Don't be a fool, Hana! Don't charge in like that without consulting me first and without forming a plan!"

Kushina scolded me and I rubbed my head. "Ouch..."

"Guy, Asuma, Obito, protect them. Hana and I will deal with him!" She said to them.

"Right!" They all said.

Two other men appeared behind us and Guy used his Leaf Hurricane to kick one away. Obito used his fireball jutsu and Asuma took out a chakra blade.

The man who had turned his body into a puddle stood up after recovering from shock and smirked.

"I have to admit, for a little girl, you pack a punch," He said and appeared behind me. "But you're way too weak to handle someone like me,"

I could hear the sound of a sword sheathing and Kushina acted quickly.

"Wind style, gale surge!"

The guy flew back because of how much force she used and I stared at Kushina with shock.

"That's one strong jutsu," I remarked.

"Yeah," She chuckled. "I trained a lot in my younger days, so I could fight off bullies,"

"Lightning style, lightning beam!"

A beam of electricity aimed at the guy and he yelled out in pain since it was another strong lightning release that I learned.

"Water style, water cannon!"

Kushina shot boiling water at him and she yelled out more as the water burned through the tree and burned him. His body twitched since the mix of electricity and water can cause someone to be electrocuted.

He started to slump over, but then I heard a voice from behind us.

"Just kidding,"

A sword pierced through Kushina's stomach and I widened my eyes.

"No!"

She coughed and I started trembling.

Not this again. I can't lose her. I can't!

"A-Aunt Kushina?" I asked her, the night of my parents death flooding back.

She gave me a weak smile and I looked at her, seeing my mother. Her eyes closed slowly and I was shaking even worse.

"No..please no!" I screamed, tears trailing down my cheeks now.

The man laughed. "She was powerful, but she was way too weak for me. Are you going to avenge her? I hope so. I'd love to kill you too,"

I stared at Kushina and all I could see was my mother. I could feel rage starting to build up deep inside of me.

"Want my help? Let me take over and I'll make sure this is all over."

I couldn't deny it this time. I was too filled with rage to think clearly.

A newfound strength coursed through my veins and I could hear a voice telling me to kill him.

The man ran at me with a sword and I looked up slowly, seeing he was going to stab me. I grabbed it, not caring that it was cutting my hand. He looked surprised at how close the blade was to my face and how I managed to stop it with one hand.

"You're...You're going to pay for killing her," I said to him hatefully.

That bloodthirstiness inside of me was starting to grow stronger.

"Am I now?" He laughed. "Don't worry, your suffering will soon be over after I'm done with you,"

I started grabbing his sword with my hand and gripped it, which drew more blood from my hands. He struggled trying to take the sword away from me and I ended up pushing it to the ground.

"Water style, water dragon jutsu,"

A bigger dragon appeared and aimed towards him. He dodged it and the dragon destroyed the area behind him.

He threw more weapons at me and I turned around, using my static strings on them. I could hear him yelping from the trees somewhere because static strings are similar to chakra strings and they send a shock to my opponent.

I looked around to find a body of water and found a lake.

"Hana? Where are you going?" I heard Asuma asked.

I ignored him and walked onto the surface of the lake. I remembered how Jiraiya told me that standing on a body of water makes water ninjutsu stronger.

I took a deep breath and exhaled when I saw the man standing in front of the lake. A massive, billowing stream of water aimed at him and hit him. I could hear his screams because water cannon burns skin. Hearing his screams, the corner of my lips started to raise.

He made a hand sign. "Fire style, fire dragon jutsu!"

Fireballs in the shape of a dragon's head started going in my direction. I quickly weaved the signs for my water armor technique and it dampened the effects so I wouldn't suffer too much damage. I could only use this for a limited amount of time though since it draws out my chakra.

After the fireballs hit me, causing small burns, the water armor fell and I made another sign for my ripping torrent technique.

"You're a lot tougher than I thought," The man remarked.

I let the water spiral out of my hand and hit him.

He stood back up and I only grew angrier because I didn't hear his screams of pain. It was like I was starting to lose my sanity slowly.

"Fire style, pulse blast!" The man exclaimed. He hurled a fireball about the size of a basketball and I dodged out of instinct. I looked over at him in alarm when I heard him snickering.

When it made contact with the trees, it exploded and gas poured out as a loud sound emitted from it. I realized that he had let out poison gas and I quickly held my breath and used my hands to cover my mouth and nose. Now I understood why he was dressed a Rain ninja.

I cursed him in my mind and he snickered.

He started to weave signs that I recognized as the incinerating hail. I let myself fall underwater to avoid the poison gas and fireballs. I remembered this technique from Nozomi.

Luckily, I got better with water ninjutsu and I learned the breathing underwater technique. Only Blood Mist ninjas knew this and somehow my mother learned it. I suspect she used to live in the Blood Mist for a little bit.

The man thought I drowned and he scoffed. "Just when it started to get interesting. I guess I shouldn't expect any more from a little girl after all,"

Hearing his insult made me lose more control over my sanity. At this point, the urge to spill blood was stronger and I couldn't go back unless something snapped me out of it.

I swam up to the surface of the water without a word and he heard the splash. He turned around and that's when I weaved the signs for the water chains to keep him from moving. He grunted and squirmed, trying to break free from the water chains.

I made hand signs for the water fang bullet and a circle of spikes made out of water enclosed around him.

He started yelling out as the spikes pierced his skin and hearing those screams only made me smile.

I used the static strings technique to electrocute him.

"Water style, water vortex,"

I felt like I was in a trance again. More chakra surged through me and the man started to widen his eyes.

"No, wait!"

I continued to smile at his cries for mercy.

Water streamed down like a waterfall and it moved like an ocean wave. It flooded the area we were in and the man got caught up in it. He slammed against a tree and the water eventually died down and I started walking towards him.

He trembled in fear now.

"Lightning style-"

"That's enough, Hana,"

A hand was on my shoulder and I stopped, starting to snap out of my trance.

I turned around and I saw Kushina.

"I know you probably have a lot of questions. I'll answer them later, but for now, let's capture him instead of killing him."

I nodded and I quickly wrapped my arms around her. I thought she was dead and now I was relieved to ee she wasn't. That power that I felt left my body and I could feel the aftermath of using all of these strong jutsus at once.

I dropped to the ground in exhaustion. I went over my limit. This is the exact reason why I try my hardest to ignore that bloodthirstiness inside of me.
