Chapter 29
I currently sat in one of the treatment rooms alone, waiting for one of the medic ninjas to come to me already. I knew they were treating the ones who were in the worst condition first, but still. I just wanted to be healed already.
Finally, a woman came and greeted me.
"Hana Uzumaki, right?" She asks.
I nodded.
"I'm just going to put some healing ointments on you because you're not that bad, so just let it dry and then you can put your compression wraps back on your wrists." She said.
She had me take them off and then started applying the healing ointment where I got marks from being hit with sharp objects. She even applied it to my bottom lip where I bit it really hard to inflict pain on Kuroshi.
She exited the room and I had to sit there for like fifteen minutes, waiting for the ointment to dry on me. It was really annoying too because I couldn't lick my lips since it was on my bottom lip. I noticed some of the scars went away on my body and I was surprised.
I guess that healing ointment gets rid of scars too. I left the room after it was all dried up and went inside of the gathering hall to check out the statues. One had long and spiky hair and the person wore traditional armor. The statues fingers were in the midst of weaving a sign and held a sword in the other. The other statue had long hair and it was smooth, but wore a headband on its forehead. They were also wearing traditional armor.
"Those statues are pretty cool, aren't they?" Minato startled me.
"Yeah, who are they?" I ask.
"Lord First and Madara Uchiha," he answered. "This statue is also at the Valley of End where they had their fight at. This statue is just a replica of that one to honor the First Hokage,"
"The First Hokage?" I ask, with surprise and looked back at the statues.
"Yup,"
"Can we go to the Valley of End one day to see them? Now I want to go there and see where the original statues are,"
"Yeah, that would be a fun trip. We'll go after the Chunin Exams and Kushina will want to come with us as well," Minato smiles.
"Did Madara pass away?" I ask.
Minato nodded. "Yes, he passed after their fight at the Valley of End,"
I took one last look at the statues and sat down.
"When are you going to teach me that new jutsu? I wanna get strong already! If I'm going to be the Hokage, then I need to be as strong as possible!" I ask, with a bunch of energy.
"Just be patient. Before the final rounds start, I'll show you that new jutsu," Minato said.
More genin came through and I only recognized Hayate out of all of them. Minato greeted them and then guided them to where the treatment rooms are.
How long is this going take? I just wanna get started already.
Obito came out of the treatment rooms and sat down next to me.
"Do you want to fight anyone specific?" he asks.
"Probably Naomi, Nozomi, or Kuroshi," I shrug.
"I just want to fight stupid Kakashi!" Obito said, smirking at the thought of beating him. "Then everyone can see that I'm way stronger than he is!"
I just chuckled and Rin came over. She apparently heard some of our conversations, because she asked me why I wanted to fight Naomi.
"Naomi and I were going to spar one day, but it got interrupted by her father. I really want to finish our fight and I think I'd like to go against the byakugan," I answer.
We waited on Kakashi and I saw Naomi and her team walking through. They had a new team member since Satoshi is in the ANBU Black Ops right now.
"Naomi," I said to her.
"Hana," She smirked at me.
"I see that you made it before I did," She said. "And I think you should be warned that if we fight, I won't hold back."
"Good, because I wouldn't want you to hold back," I replied.
Eventually, most of the genin came through. There wasn't a lot who made it because most of them failed by opening the scroll. Idiots.
Now that everyone was here, the Hokage stood on a podium while our senseis stood with him. Orochimaru and I made eye contact and a shiver ran down my spine. I looked away from him since he's always made me uneasy. There was something about him that was offputting.
I looked over at Kurenai and Anko, who both gave me a smile. I smiled back at them and the Hokage cleared his throat and removed the pipe from his mouth.
"First, I wanna congratulate everyone on completing the second part of these exams" He started. "Now I want to explain the true purpose of these exams and what the third exam truly is,"
He gave us a really long speech and people kept cutting him off in the middle of it, asking a bunch of questions.
"However, you mustn't have the wrong idea of the exam's meaning. This is a custom in which balance is preserved by fighting and dying. In the world of shinobi, that is friendship. The third exam is a fight for your life, with the pride of your village and your own dreams at stake-" He was cut off again.
"Any test is fine! Just tell us the details of the exams already, I can handle ANYTHING you throw at me!" A voice shouted and cut him off, it sounded like Nozomi.
He looked a bit surprised.
"Very well then," Lord Hokage nodded. "Now listen closely, I'll be explaining what you'll all be doing on the third exam,"
"You will be fighting one-on-one with an opponent that we had picked out for you. This will be taking place at the arena, but it'll in a month. This will give you a chance to recuperate and prepare for the final battle, your matchups will be posted as well. This usually attracts others to watch the battles." He finished.
A screen on the battle site near the statues turned on. It listed each match.
Naomi Hyuga vs Kuroshi Akamatsu
"Damnit!" I exclaimed. "I wanted to fight one of them!"
Minato sweat dropped at my outburst.
Another name came up on the screen. This wasn't a surprise, but I was glad at the same time.
Nozomi Akamatsu vs Hana Uzumaki
"Looks like you'll be fighting Nozomi," Obito said with worry.
I gave him a thumbs up and a smile. I think Guy was rubbing off on me too much.
"No worries, Obito," I said. "I've got this and this is a good opportunity for me to take her down too,"
"Are you really going to kill her?" Obito asks.
"I don't know," I shrug. "If one of us dies, then we die,"
He looked unsettled at how I said that.
The rest of the matches were posted. Obito was disappointed to see that his opponent is Guy instead of Kakashi. Kakashi's opponent was a Cloud ninja and Rin's opponent was a Grass ninja.
The Hokage dismissed us so we could go home and start preparing for the final rounds.
Nozomi walked up to me and I started to tense.
"Looks like we'll be fighting," She said.
I said nothing.
"I'm going to crush you in those final rounds and I'll humiliate you in front of everyone who's watching." She walked away after that and then I narrowed my eyes.
"I refuse to let her win, the only person who'll be winning our match is me!" I shouted.
"Well said, Hana," Guy grinned. "Very youthful of you!"
Kakashi sighed.
Minato dismissed us and I started to bug him.
"When are we going to start training?" I ask.
"Tomorrow, because today I want you to rest so you're not all tired tomorrow. Plus, you seem hungry and tired," He said.
"No, I'm not-" My stomach growled and my face flushed. "Okay, maybe I am hungry,"
Minato and I walked home and Kushina hugged me.
"Did you pass?" She asks.
"Yes!" I said with excitement.
"That's great, I'm going to start making dinner now and I'll make ramen for you," She said and walked to the kitchen.
Minato sat down at the table to read a book and I went to shower and get changed into some comfortable clothes. When I wasn't on missions, I wore a sky blue shirt and black leggings that went to my knees.
Showering felt nice after being stuck in the Forest of Death. I couldn't stand not showering after two days, I just felt really gross.
After showering, I rushed to the dining table. Kushina's ramen smelled and looked amazing. She poured some in my bowl and I immediately started eating it. I missed ramen, I should've brought it with me when I was in the Forest of Death.
"You should probably slow down, you might choke if you eat that fast," Minato laughed.
"I'm fine!" I said.
"Hey, don't talk with food in your mouth!" Kushina scolded.
"Sorry," I replied after swallowing my food.
"Uncle Minato?" I ask.
He looked up from his book.
"Are we still going to the Valley of End?" I ask.
"Why do you wanna go there?" Kushina asks.
"She saw the statues of Madara Uchiha and the First Hokage, so she wants to go see the actual statues in person," Minato answered for me. "And yes Hana, we're still going,"
"I'll go too, I'll bring a basket of food so we can have a picnic," Kushina said.
We chatted for a few more minutes and eventually started cleaning up after ourselves. I helped Kushina with the dishes and put them away after she would wash them. I went to my room after that to go get ready for bed and I heard tapping at my window.
I was confused and walked over to my window to see why there's tapping.
I opened the window. Golden eyes made eye contact with my green ones and I nearly screamed because I was startled. Before I could, a hand went over my mouth and the golden orbs were gone.
"Hush, you're going to alarm everyone,"
I got out of this person's hold and I turned around, now I was confused.
"Kuroshi?!" I whisper-shouted.
"Hush, you're being loud again,"
"Me hush? What the hell are you doing in my house?" I exclaimed again. Kushina came in and Kuroshi hid somewhere in my room.
"Are you alright? I thought I heard you shouting," Kushina asked.
I smiled nervously and waved my hands. Oh, yeah. Everything's okay! I just tripped over my uh...book!"
"Oh, okay."
She closed the door and I shut off the lights. Kuroshi sat down on my bed.
"That's why I told you to hush, fool," He sighed.
"I swear to god if you tell me to hush one more time," I retort.
He just laughed quietly.
"I don't want to talk in here because your parents-"
"They're not my parents,"
"Whatever, they might hear, so come with me and I'll explain everything,"
I nodded and went to my closet to grab a jacket and put on some shoes. He crawled through my window and I followed him out.
We walked over to a playground and he sat down on a swing. I sat on the swing that was next to him and the moonlight illuminated his face and it made it look like his eyes were glowing again. He looked troubled.
"Well? Care to explain why you snuck in my room at 10 o' clock at night? And how did you know where I live anyway?" I ask.
"I followed you because I was trying to talk to you, but you were with your Dad-"
"Uncle," I correct.
He just sighed at me interrupting him.
"But you were with your Uncle, so I didn't want to bother you. I decided I'd talk to you later and I'm talking to you right now because I need a favor from you,"
"What is it?"
"After your fight with Nozomi in the final rounds, I really need you to fight her again and..." He trailed off, looking sad. "Use your power to finish her off, once and for all,"
"Okay, but I still don't understand what you're talking about when you say 'power',"
"What do you mean you don't know? When I overshadowed you, it basically pushed me out of you," He said, quirking an eyebrow.
I wanted to change the topic now.
"Look," I said. "I plan to settle the score with her, but why do you want to kill your own sister?"
"It's not like I want to," He looked at me, sadness in his eyes. "I have to, she's been so badly corrupted right now that she can't go back. She's too full of hate to change back to her old self,"
"Corrupted? By who?" I ask.
Kuroshi didn't answer me.
"Kuroshi, answer me," I pushed.
He still said nothing and I sighed in defeat.
"Fine, but can you at least answer this? If her last name is Akamatsu, then why did she tell me that her last name was Kuroki?" I ask.
"It was the last name of her birth father, Shinji Kuroki,"
"Shinji?" I asked, my eyes widening. "It can't be..."
Kuroshi gave me a puzzled look.
"Someone gave me a threatening letter, claiming that they were going to finish what 'Shinji' started. It was Nozomi! She was the person who left that letter!" I said.
Kuroshi looked surprised.
"And if Shinji is her father, then that means he's the one who killed my parents! I knew I recognized those eyes of hers!" I continued.
Kuroshi and I stood up off the swing and I grabbed his shirt.
"Is that why Nozomi hates me? Because of my parents? What does she want from me? Why did Shinji kill them?" I demanded, hurt and angry at the same time.
Kuroshi gave me a look of sympathy.
"Tell me, damnit!" My grip tightened on him.
Kuroshi removed my hands from his shirt and he held onto my wrists to keep me from moving. Hot tears streamed down my cheeks as I remembered my mother's blood spattering on me and seeing my dad use a forbidden jutsu that killed him.
"Look, Hana, I don't know why. I don't know Nozomi's past either," Kuroshi said. "Her mother married my father because he wanted to create more offspring with my kekkei genkai. Now stop crying, I don't want you all upset. You can get all of the answers from her, okay?"
I nodded.
"Just...make sure you finish her once and for all before she destroys herself even more."
I broke down. I didn't understand why I was crying. I think I may have been overwhelmed and my parent's death and remembering that night just makes me break down. Kuroshi sighed, realizing I wasn't going to stop crying.
He just lifted me up and carried me home.
"Anonymous" was Nozomi the entire time.
