Chapter 10 *EDITED*
Since Rin and I were the only two girls on this team, we had to sleep in the same tent. It was pretty awkward.
She tried to strike up a conversation with me, but I just played it off as if I was tired.
I had woken up before her and turned around to quickly fix myself up for the day. I packed up my bags and exited the tent, seeing that Kakashi and Minato were sitting near the fire already. Looks like Obito wasn't awake yet.
"Good morning," Minato greeted. "Did you sleep alright?"
"Not really," I replied, taking the seat next to Kakashi. "Kinda hard to sleep when a girl I don't know wants to kill me,"
"I promise I'll try to do whatever I can to find out more about that Hana," Uncle Minato sighed. "I won't let anything happen,"
"How are your injuries?" Kakashi asked me.
"They're fine, she didn't wound me that bad," I replied.
Kakashi gave me a disbelieving look when he saw that I winced when I moved my arm a certain way. Obito came out of the other tent and he rubbed his eyes trying to wake himself up.
"Morning,"
It was clear he was still half asleep.
"Morning," Uncle greeted him. "There's some riceballs that Kushina packed for us inside my backpack if you guys hungry,"
Obito immediately went to get a riceball and his stomach growled as he grabbed one. I didn't have much of an appetite since I was stressed about the whole incident yesterday. I still don't understand how that girl knows who I am.
Obito sat next to me and I could still feel the tension in the air from us not being on the best terms lately. He seemed to have noticed that I wasn't eating though, because he held a riceball out to me.
"You should eat Hana," He said. "You can't go all day without eating,"
"I'm fine," I insisted.
My stomach decided to betray me at that moment and growled loudly.
"Oh really now?" Kakashi asked, giving me a look.
My cheeks turned a light shade of pink since I was proven wrong. I sheepishly took the riceball from Obito, muttering a "thanks" to him. I was surprised he even noticed me at all, but then again, Rin wasn't around right now.
I stood up to help Uncle clean up the campsite and Rin emerged from the tent, greeting everyone with a smile.
How can she be so cheery first thing in the morning?
"How are your injuries, Hana?" She asked.
"They're fine,"
My tone was short. She seemed to have noticed too because she looked slightly upset. Obito even seemed to have noticed our interaction, but he stayed silent.
"We have one more day until we reach the Blood Mist, so let's get everything packed and get back on the road," Uncle Minato said.
Since Rin was around now, I was just invisible to Obito. He was following her around like a lost puppy and this only furthered my annoyance with her. I was already starting to grow sick of her.
Kakashi must've noticed the tension that was brewing because he tried to distract me from glaring at the two.
"Hana, can you help me get the second tent down?" He asked.
"Yeah, sure," I replied, giving Rin one last death stare.
I put the tent down quickly and shoved it back inside the backpack. Kakashi sweat dropped at how aggressively I shoved it in there. I looked over at him and just shrugged. "I'm not a morning person,"
"I can see that,"
Uncle Minato made sure we were all ready before we took off. "Rin, do you still have the scroll secured inside your bag?"
"It's right here," She said and made sure the bag was zipped shut.
We started walking and I was now watching my surroundings even more closely just in case that girl from yesterday would try to attack me again. I didn't understand what her issue was and why Uncle Minato was being cryptic about it. Then again, maybe he was just as clueless as I was too.
As we got closer to the Blood Mist, the fog grew thicker.
The fog only made me even more worried about my surroundings because it was hard to see. I hated how paranoid I became after she attacked me. We were all silent for this morning.
I was silent because of how lost in my thoughts I was. I was thinking about how I wish Obito would stop dropping me for Rin and if that girl would attack me again. Although, I had the feeling that someone was following us.
I had to confirm it before saying something though, so I tried my best to scan my surroundings and watch subtle movements. That was hard because of the fog though.
"Do you guys get the feeling we're being followed?" Kakashi asked quietly.
"I do," I replied. "But it's hard to see in this fog,"
Just in case that girl had people following us, I reached into my pocket and wrapped my hand around the handle of my kunai.
"I've got the same feeling too, but if they are, they haven't come out yet so we all need to stay on guard and be ready for another attack," Minato said quietly. "And Hana, don't say anything just in case they're trying to get information on you,"
I nodded, continuing to grip on the kunai's handle.
Obito and Rin were visibly worried.
I had to remind myself that my uncle is the Yellow Flash and that he's super strong. My heart was racing as we walked through this fog.
What if they attack now?
I nearly jumped fifty feet in the air when Uncle Minato put his hand on my shoulder.
"It'll be okay Hana, I won't let anything happen to you," He smiled.
I looked at him questioningly.
"You're shaking," He patted my shoulder. "Be on guard, but don't let your fear take over,"
I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding and inhaled deeply. I couldn't wait to go back home and just be in my bed.
Another couple of hours passed and it was probably closer to three o'clock. We've been walking for a while and so far, no one has attacked. Maybe someone wasn't following, but I couldn't shake that feeling off. Aunt Kushina always told me to listen to that gut feeling if I felt like something was wrong and this gut feeling felt strongly about this.
"Let's stop here," Uncle Minato suggested.
"But it's not close to night yet," Rin said. "Shouldn't we keep going?"
"Because someone might be following us, I want to take a minute to check around and see if anyone is nearby," He answered. "The four of you stay put and don't wander off, this won't take me long,"
He quickly ran off to the bushes behind us and I sat down on the ground to calm myself down.
"Are you feeling okay, Hana?" Kakashi asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I tried to play it off.
I could tell he didn't believe me though.
"Look, I know Minato-Sensei will handle this," He said. "If someone is following us, he'll take them down without any problems,"
Obito quickly spoke up. "And I'll fight them off too, you know,"
I looked at him with a small smile. Obito was confusing me right now since he seemed to have forgotten about me because of Rin, but he was noticing how stressed I was right now.
We waited for Uncle Minato to come back and just as I was about to wonder if he was doing alright, the familiar spiky-blonde hair emerged from the fog. I scanned his appearance and there was no sign of fighting or injury.
"How did it go?" I asked.
"Just a common thief, no one important."
I raised an eyebrow at his response but didn't question it. He was being very cryptic and I couldn't understand why.
The sun started to set as we made our way to the Blood Mist. Just one more day and this mission would be over.
We continued walking until it got too dark and had to set camp for the night.
