Chapter 7
"See, madam look at me!"
The stupid police officer banged his hands on the table.
I looked at him his eyes red from what I can't explain. His uniform was ragged and rumpled. He was tall, black as night and had scars on his face which I rather not know the back story of.
"Abeg no de shout for am, na still small pikin." The other police officer countered. This one was tall but not as tall as the other one. He had light chocolate skin and an unkept beard
Are this people doing good cop, bad cop with me?
"What Officer Gbenga is trying to say is, we need to know exactly what you did after the crime was committed."
I had told these people exactly what happened but Officer Gbenga aka Mr Scar Face didn't believe me.
I sighed softly. My head already aching and for the only God knows time I repeated
"I ran away immediately but he couldn't keep up with me. I got to our street junction, hid in a caravan across and called my neighbour. Who then came minutes later with her parents in a car and picked me up and then they took me to their home."
I told them again hoping they will have sense to understand. Mr Scar Face still looked at me skeptically but the other officer aka Mr Good cop wrote some stuff down and sighed.
I guess he had enough of his colleague's assumptions.
"One last question before you go,
Do you in any way know where he came from on the evening of said crime?"
I racked my brain. I didn't actually know. "All I remember was that he was dressed up like he was going for a party." I concluded.
Mr Good cop nodded and they released me. Officer Gbenga still held a stare as I walked out but I couldn't care less.
The reception actually looked too good to be in a Police Department. I always believed the rumours that Police stations were poor looking, dirty and smelly. But everything I saw here was the exact opposite of what I knew.
Coming out of the interrogation room, a little hall served as a pathway to the reception hall, which was given a beige colour on its walls. On it had blue, green and yellow stripes which were the official colours of the Nigerian Police Force. Adjacent to the walls was a table which contained a lady quietly typing on her system. There were steel chairs located on both sides of the room, a little TV set up to play some news and whatnot. One or two police men could be seen walking around as well as citizens who had one business with them or another.
Ami's dad sat on one of the chairs, typing away on his phone. I tapped him and he noticed me, we both walked out of the office and into the car.
I wondered what the police were going to do.
Were they going to bring him back?
Were they going to arrest him?
Were they going to execute him?
At the thought of that I shook my head. He deserved it but it would still hurt. And if both my parents werefy dead, who would I live with? The Adeperos were going to give me up eventually. What was I going to do?
At that moment, tears rushed down my eyes. My vision was getting blurry and my head started to hurt like hell and my breathing was unsteady.
It suddenly felt like the car was getting smaller. Everything was unstable. I couldn't take it anymore.
I needed to get out of the car right away but I didn't know why, and before I knew it.
Everything went black.

AMI
I walked down the hallway of my school. Grace College to be exact. I didn't know what happened but
Efe was feeling a little off today.
Like she was trying to control herself from passing out or something. I didn't have time to inquire because I was already running late.
7:52
Said my watch as I walked into school, the assembly was still on and gladly, all the seniors were too engrossed in a conversation to notice me.
I was scot free!
Running to my class line, I blended in with the crowd but I got noticed by a few of my seatmates who snicked when they saw how tired I was from running. I composed myself and listened to the announcements.
I spoke with a few friends, got flogged for failing some questions on my Civic Education quiz and somehow managed to be the only one who passed my math quiz.
Right...
Hours later school was over and I was walking home. I saw a car coming my direction and it looked so familiar. I continued walking till the car got parked at my side. Then I saw my mom with a horrid expression on her face.
Mom never picked me up from school, she was ways too busy and believed I had to face the hard side of life by trekking even though we could perfectly use the freaking car!
"What's wrong mother? Why are you picking me up? Since when?" I asked so many questions at once.
Mom unnecessarily adjusted her necklace, something she does when she was discomforted. It only made me scared.
"Mom! What's wrong?!" I asked again.
She left her necklace and aid those five words which almost made me faint.
"Efe is at the hospital."
