Chapter 19
Efe
So many things ran through my mind as I saw my high school class mate.
What is he doing here?
How did he know I was here?
Did Amanda say anything?
How am I going to solve this?
Is anyone else coming for me?
All these questions at the tip of my tongue as Joshua embraced me in a rather suffocating hug.
"Efe, what are you doing here?" He asked while perpetually ignoring Nnamdi.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I almost went berserk.
"I came back for you my love. I love you! Please come back to me na. Haven't I tried? All these years in school and it didn't mean anything to you? Not one bit?." He begged.
Nnamdi couldn't take it anymore. He was like a shook bottle of coke. It could explode. Someone shook him, someone wanted him to explode. I was even getting scared of him.
For the first time in all this, he spoke.
"What is wrong with you?!" He screamed.
Joshua looked at him from head to toe and cursed under his breath, tightening his fists. Praying blood doesn't shoot out of them. He looked at Nnamdi in the eye trying as much as possible to intimidate him but oh boy, it wasn't working.
"Look at this peasant talking to me. You think girls like her move with guys like you? I mean you look so wretched and dirty." He spat at Nnamdi.
The boy tried so hard to cool his pending temper. One could alike him to a raging lion or an angry hawk. Either way he was getting mad.
Then Joshua crossed the line and I became very sorry for him.
"I just pity the woman that gave birth to you. She just wasted nine months of her life for this piece of trash."
That was all the lion needed to feast on his prey. And I prayed the latter survived.
Nnamdi attacked Joshua and gave him punches and hits that were harder than a horny male. His bloodshot eyes made him look like a demon in the flesh. Every hit was worst than the last.
I rushed over to pull him away from Joshua. The latter's face was filled with bruises and I swore I even saw a cut. The attacker didn't even have a scratch.
"Next time think before you talk." Nnamdi spat.
I helped Joshua up and boy he was mad. He flinched at my touch and I noticed the flames gathering in his eyes.
"Now I know you really hate me. I will make you miserable! And to think I was once in love with you. It wasn't worth all this." He said with a hoarse voice.
Was he really that in love with me? Of course I never knew. I've been clueless all these years. What kind of a person am I?
Joshua turned to the male beside me.
"And you, I'll make sure you pay for doing this to me! I'll make sure you pay!"
He then started limping away. I tried to run towards him but Nnamdi held me back.
Immediately I freaked out on him. It was too much for me to handle.
"Why did you beat him up? I guess he said some hurtful words but why?!" I persisted again.
He looked at me with a blank expression. Void of any feeling. No anger, no sadness, no nothing.
It was scary
Maybe Joshua's words were more than hurtful.
"Nnamdi, I'm so sor-"
"Save it." He said and started walking away.
What have I done?
"Nnamdi wait!" I screamed as I tried to catch up with him.
"WHAT!" He screamed at me. Then I saw a tear fall down his face. It was a heartbreaking sight.
I knew it was not the time but... I hugged him.
I hugged him as tight as I could and I started crying. I didn't know why but seeing him hurt pulled a trigger I never knew existed.
He gave a long sigh, touching my hair and making the hug tighter, if that was even possible. I felt so bad and I was disappointed in myself.
"I'm not mad at you Efe." He said to me. His chin on my head.
"Okay." I sobbed on his shoulder.
He then broke the hug, looked at me and kissed my forehead and used his thumb to wipe my tears away.
"Please don't leave me again." I said.
"Who said anything about leaving?" He smiled.
I looked back, thinking about Joshua, if he actually meant his threats but looking at the boy beside me, I believed nothing could harm me.
It was getting late already. But I didn't care. We walked away from the compound breathing in the cool evening breeze as we walked down the quiet street.
Meanwhile...
Elisa watched through her compound gate all that took place. She felt pity for Joshua but she was attracted to Nnamdi.
That afternoon when she just finished dealing with a client whose wife had somehow found her number. Terrorising her to leave her husband alone.
She was used to all these women whose husbands worked with her.
If he loved you then why would they meet me? That was what was in her mind.
She worked with single, married, divorced even aged men. As long as they have the cash rolling.
Dropping her phone, someone knocked on her door, she was annoyed as hell, wanting some time alone.
She got up and walked up to her door, ready to pluck the eyes off the idiot that was disturbing her life.
But oh boy, this idiot was handsome as fuck. Her strong frown melted into a seductive smile. Maybe she could use him to calm herself down.
But this guy had a girl behind him what had a scowl.
Of course she got the message but she still persisted.
The girl finally dragged Mr.
Handsome away.
He was very attractive and she hoped she would see him again. He was just too cute to loose.
