01 - Before the storm
Eyes fluttered in the dimly lit room, a headache slowly registering in a tired mind as her eyes adjusted to her surroundings, fighting the haze that was forced upon her. Her head lulled to the side as she tried to make sense, her thoughts slowly coming into view, slowly but surely.
It was dimly lit by a flickering light off to the side that aggravated the headache that was splitting through her mind. Looked like it was once a parking lot but was now left deserted and dirty, broken tiles against the walls and paper moving every time the wind blew.
As she adjusted she found she was tied to a chair, rope digging into the flesh of both arms and legs and even within the small space of movement she could feel there was no real power in her limbs.
"You're finally awake." a voice stated, startling her as a girl came into view, familiar to her mind. "Thought I was going to have to cut into you just to get your attention."
The girl smiled, Jenny. She remembered vaguely. She reeled in her mind as she tried to piece together what had happened, what was happening.
"Jenny." she stated, her voice sounding more like a cough than a word as her eyes darted around the room.
"There we are." Jenny said, crouching down in front of her. "That look of realization really is priceless." she motioned with a knife in her direction, a smirk splayed on Jenny's lips
"Though not the Jenny you know and love, a.. better version." she stood up and walked up to a makeshift table
"Jenny was pathetic really but she was in the perfect position to befriend someone like you, Yael."
Yael frowned, nothing made sense to her and the headache still tore through her like a hurricane, pulsing and demanding to be felt. Keeping her from making any real progress, any plan of escape.
"What do you want from me?" her voice was small, cracking with every word as she forced it out of her lungs. God knows how long she'd been down here, deprived of substance, unconscious.
Jenny grinned. "Not me, I couldn't care less but a thing like you.. so nice and pure, it's boring really." Jenny walked back to Yael and she had to painfully crane her neck to keep Jenny in view
"But you can be used." she trailed the knife over Yael's collarbone as she spoke. "You will make a suitable offering."
Jenny trailed the knife over her shoulder and down to her wrist, making a cut and watching the blood gather and drop to the floor before she went back to the table, picking up a copper bowl and walked back to Yael who struggled against the rope. She placed the bowl on the floor where Yael's blood was spilling. Slowly leaking.
Yael watched, wide eyes as her blood dropped into the bowl. There was already other things in the bowl, nothing she can positively identify and neither was she in the right mind to do so.
"Please." Yael cried out, tears starting to gather in her eyes though she had no hope that Jenny would listen to her pleas.
"Oh sweetheart." Jenny murmured, cupping her cheek and tilting her face up. "If only you knew how lucky you are. You are going to meet him and you'll know how special it is, your little life would not be for nothing. Not only will you meet him, he'll devour you. You'll be a part of all this." Jenny motioned around them with a certain glimmer in her eyes as she spoke."You'll be useful for once."
"You're insane." Yael cried out without meaning to, insulting your captor was never a good idea but what other response could she have to hearing that, the girl was obviously off her rocks and somehow she got dragged into the delusions.
"Of course you'd think that, you mortals never see the bigger picture." Jenny started, pulling a match from her pocket. "You'll see when you're in the glory of his presence just how lucky you are. In the end you'll beg for it"
Jenny lit the match and dropped it in the bowl, Yael cried out as it burst into flames, going from violet to a soft red and dying down. Yael held her breath for a moment but when nothing happened she felt a sigh of relief, though she wasn't sure what she was expecting, this was short-lived however.
"You summon me at this time." Yael heard a voice behind her. It was firm and absolute. She felt the fear creep into her bones without even seeing what was behind her, she could only imagine. She knew this was the end, she was going to die and she never even begun living her life. She knew she should've have gone to that party, knew it was a bad idea but she was told she had to live her life, have fun, now look at her.
"Sire." Jenny said, dropping down to her knees. "I wanted to give you this offering, pledge my allegiance. Another for the hoard, she is untainted."
"And you summon me here instead of coming to me."
He walked closer and Yael could see him for the first time, perhaps it was the haze of the blood loss that was taking over her mind but she was rendered speechless, thought left her as she looked up at the blue eyes staring down at her and for a moment she didn't feel the pure fear her mind offered her. She just watched, fascinated until her mind would show her reason.
"Demons." he started. "You always think you know better. " he walked over to Jenny and pulled her to her feet. "You interrupted me from my plans." he tilted his head a bit. "Now, what shall we do about that hmm."
"I apologize." Jenny sputtered. "I just- I thought-"
"Yes that's the problem isn't it. You think.. You don't do your job, and yet you didn't think of how we are suppose to move forward when you keep summoning me to these things." he interrupted her, voice rising until he took a breath, voice suddenly ice cold and filled with malice."I do not have time for this. "
Jenny cried out as she disintegrated before Yael, a pile of ash left on the floor as the man started to walk away before pausing, glancing at Yael, the aura of his intensity pointed straight at her and she shifted uncomfortably, this time feeling the fear she had before she had seen him at the pit of her stomach.
"I could leave you for your kind who frequent here, I bet they'd have fun with that." he murmured, stalking closer to her. "Could end that misery you feel once and for all. Death will come for you before the first light."
He frowned at her, tilting her head to the side as her regarded her. He should leave, it would be the smart thing to do, be rid of the danger she poses but beyond all better judgement he snapped his fingers, the rope disintegrating from her limbs.
She felt the heat from the action, searing flesh as it went. He took hold of her wrist, she whimpered at the contact and as his thumb glided over her skin, the wound disappeared just leaving behind red blotches where the blood had dried. No cut, just the discoloration from the rope. She wanted to backtrack but afraid to do so as he was so close to her, she was afraid what he'd do even when his recent action had been less hostile towards her. She was struggling to comprehend what had happened, the events that led to this very moment
Every action had been unreal.
He sighed. "No finesse." he took her other wrist, thumb going over where the rope had cut into her just like he had with her wrist but this time he didn't heal it. "Come on, there's a lot to do and I don't babysit." he stated, pulling her to her feet and to his chest
"Close your eyes." he demanded.
She didn't quite have a choice in the matter when she saw light coming from all direction, she clenched her eyes shut out of instinct and buried herself in his chest until it faded completely.
Her mother always warned about the dangers of gatherings and being alone in the dark but she never mentioned a situation quite like this and how dangerous the world really was.
