3rd Person POV:
Tori watched Matilda's giant robot explode and crash onto a hill that was pretty far. She hoped that Matilda was alright, but she wasn't sure why. She closed her eye and felt the bruise that Matilda had given her.
"...I'll meet you guys later. I'm gonna go for... a walk." Tori lied, letting go of Ell. "Seriously? I mean... okay...?" Ell replied, cocking a brow. "See you later, Tori." Tamara said, walking away while supporting Ell. Tori started walking away, turning around a few times to make sure that Ell and Tamara weren't following her. When they were out of her sight, she started running toward the hill. Friend or not, Matilda could be badly hurt.
She fastened her pace, seeing purple pieces of the giant robot scattered around. When she got to the hill, the pieces were larger and she could tell what part of the robot it was. She stopped running when she saw Matilda laying on the ground. She slowly walked over to the ginger, seeing that her face was covered halfway in burns and scars. The eye on that side of Matilda's face was closed.
"M-Matilda?" She said quietly, almost whispering. Matilda turned her head, looking at Tori. Her eyes widened and she used her arms to push herself into a sitting position. "T-Tori?" She groaned and Tori gasped. Tori went up to her and sat down next to her, tearing up.
"I-I'll get you some help!" "N-no... the fuckin' cops are... a-after me..." Tori held Matilda and kept her close. "What'll we do?!" "Tori... chill..." "Your face is torn up and you can hardly move! You just survived an explosion! How do you expect me to j-just 'chill'?" Tori started weeping, feeling like she was under a lot of pressure. Matilda couldn't lift one of her arms, and she used the only one that moved to comfort Tori. She put her hand on Tori's cheek and gave her a small smile.
"It'll all be okay. My soldiers should be here soon." A tear dropped onto the scarred part of her face, and Matilda cursed under her breath. "S-sorry!" "No, calm down." Tori tried to take deep breaths, hugging the other tighter. "Inhale for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and exhale for eight seconds." Matilda instructed, closing her other eye. Tori did as told, feeling a bit better afterward. She repeated it a few times until she decided that she was fine.
"C-can you lay me down? My body hurts like hell..." Tori nodded and laid Matilda down onto the grass. "Where's my soldiers?" Matilda asked herself, frowning. Tori looked over at the sun, seeing that it was setting. "If they don't show up, you can stay in my apartment." "A-ah... sorry about the house..." "I forgive you. You just owe me a ton of mirrors and makeup." Matilda chuckled, grinning. "Will do."
Tori watched the sunset, wondering what Ell and Tamara were doing right now. Did they even care that she was gone? Did they even notice? She sighed and looked at Matilda, seeing that Matilda was watching her.
"...Tori..." "Yeah?" "Why... I don't understand at all..." "Hmm?" "After all of the things I've done... why do you still care for me? What's in it for you?" Tori almost jumped from the question. To be honest, she didn't know why she cared. She just... did. "I don't know. Yes, I should be mad at you right now... but... you don't deserve this. Not at all. Matilda, you don't deserve this..."
Tori brought her hand up to the scarred side of Matilda's face, not touching it. Tori laughed a bit and smiled. "You still look alright, though. Maybe you could use a nap. You've got quite the eyebags." Tori added. Her hand felt the normal side of Matilda's face, and Matilda came toward the warmth. The sun was nearly gone, only a sliver of it being visible.
"Tori... I don't think my soldiers are coming..." "Well, we'll just have to sneak past Ell and Tamara. Do you have a plan?" Matilda thought about it for a moment.
"Text them and tell them you're staying in a hotel or something. Then, at a bit past midnight, we'll go into your apartment. Well... I don't want to leech off of you..." "No, I feel like we've done enough damage to you. Ell will probably be mad when she finds out about this, but that's just unfair. You've gone through enough today. Just... don't pick domination over your friends, okay?" Matilda nodded against Tori's hand. "Good. Well, I'll text them. Do you want to gather your robot stuff before we go?" Matilda nodded again and sat up.
Matilda went to collect spare parts as Tori texted Ell and Tamara. Matilda shoved the parts into her hoodie pocket, Tori helping her hold a few in her own hoodie pocket. The two started walking to the address that was given to Tori, and Tori noticed a flaw in their plan.
"I don't have the apartment's keys..." "Uhm... tell her... tell Ell that you're stopping by for the keys before you go to the hotel. I'll wait outside, and then we'll go inside once you have the keys." Matilda suggested, imagining it in her head. "Good idea!"
Tori texted Ell as they walked, and they arrived at the apartment complex. Matilda waited outside, standing in a good spot for if she had to hide from Tamara or Ell. Tori went in and used an elevator before she got to Ell's apartment door. She knocked and Ell opened the door.
"Here."
Ell handed Tori the keys and Tori swore that she saw Tamara inside Ell's apartment. Ell slammed the door and Tori sighed. 'Well, that's new.' Tori unlocked the door to her apartment and dropped the robot parts off. She then left the door unlocked as she got Matilda and came back. After she and Matilda got inside, she locked the door and leaned against it.
"Well, welcome home." Matilda told Tori. "Yeah, my 'home'." Tori responded, sliding down onto the floor. The apartment was empty, and she could picture where she'd place a few mirrors and photos. Matilda sat down on the floor next to the other, crossing her legs.
"I should stop by a grocery store to get you some bandages..." "...Thanks..." The two went silent, looking around and at each other. "...Tori... I'm sorry about... y'know... hitting you..." Tori felt her bruised eyelids, the pain was still there. "It's alright now, Matilda. There's nothing we can do about it, right?" Matilda hesitated, but nodded. Tori stood up and yawned.
"We should sleep a bit. G'night." Tori said, walking off to where she'd soon have a bed. "Have a nice rest." Matilda responded, getting comfortable on the floor. They'd get furniture later.
