24. The Outer Wall
Katara, Sokka, Toph, and I are escorting Than and his family to the city. Aang had early left to go ahead and look for Appa but now he appears, flying in on his glider with Momo behind him. He lands, Momo perched on his shoulder. "Aang, what are you doing here? I thought you were looking for Appa." Katara asked, surprised.
"I was, but something stopped me. Something big" the boy says. We soon reach the base of the Outer Wall where Aang, Toph, and I use our earthbending to transport everyone up the wall.
"Now what's so big that Appa has to wait?" Sokka asks. And Aang point to the large drill outside the wall.
"We made it to Ba Sing Se and we're still not safe. No one is!" Ying says upset, and the family huddled up together.
"Don't worry!" I tell them "we'll make sure that you and everyone else is safe."
"What are you people doing here? Civilians aren't allowed on the wall!" A guard asks, Aang steps up and demades to see who ever is in charge.
------
"It is an honor to welcome you to the Outer Wall, young Avatar, but your help is not needed." General Sung says happily.
"Not needed?" Aang repeated, disbelieve clear on his face.
"Not needed. I have the situation under control." The General says calmly, "I assure you the Fire Nation cannot penetrate this wall. Many have tried to break through it, but none have succeeded."
"What about the Dragon of the West? He got in." Toph say and I give the General a smirk, waiting for his reply.
He was Slightly taken aback. "Well ... uh, technically yes, but he was quickly expunged." He says confidently. "Nevertheless, that is why the city is named Ba Sing Se. It's the impenetrable city. They don't call it Na Sing Se." He grins with what I assume is laughter, but he then turns serious. "That means penetrable city." He explains.
"Wait.." I say "didn't the Dragon of the West retrate?" I ask as all eyes turn to me "from what I read shortly after they broke the wall they pack up their things and left."
"Well... yes" General Sung says, "but that's most likely due to our great army!"
Toph scofs "doubt it." Before changing the topic "yeah, thanks for the tour, but we still got the drill problem."
"Not for long. To stop it, I've sent an elite platoon of earthbenders called the Terra Team."
"That's a good group name. Very catchy." Sokka tells him. And we watch as the Terra Team get their butts kicked and Sokka slaps the General.
"Would you like the Avatar's help now?" Toph asked with a smirk.
"Yes please." The man says meekly.
-----
We stand on the wall looking down at the drill, getting ready to attack." The question is," Aang says "how are we going to stop that thing?" And all turn our heads to Sokka.
"Why are you all looking at me?" He asks.
"Well your the idea guy."
Sokka then starts complaining. "So I'm the only one who can ever come up with a plan? That's a lot of pressure."
I roll my eyes "stop complaining Sokka." I scold "we all have a role in this group. Aang the Avatar and is why we're all here," I start "Katara is the Water Bending teacher and makes sure we all remember to eat.." I then point to Toph "my amazing sister here is the main Earth Bending teacher." I point to Momo next "and Momo is out mascot! And you are the idea guy." I tell the teen with a shrug.
"Wait.. what's your roll?" Sokka asks and I grin.
"I'm comedic relief for our audience."
"What audience?" Aang asks confused and I say nothing, just smile wider and receive strange looks. And despite my little rant Sokka still ends up complaining before Katara goes over to help a member of the Terran Team and we find out one of the girls who attacked us all those weeks ago was behind it. And that's when Sokka comes out with a plan to take down the drill, by hitting its pressure points.
