Okay, first of all, this is entirely based on my opinion, and it's not official in the slightest. There may be some spoilers ahead, so you may wanna skip out on this if you don't want to be spoiled. Next, there won't be anyone from Ultra Despair Girls because I don't have as much experience with that game, and I am focusing on the games, not the anime series, because that deserves a list of it's own. But with that out of the way, let's get started.

Gundam Tanaka
I just can't help but love this guy. He's an incredibly funny character at times, and serious at others. He is also very useful in trials, and has interesting relationships with the others- particularly Hajime, Nagito, Sonia and Souda. And where do I even start with the hamsters? THE GOD DAMN HAMSTERS! And dammit, those hamsters just had to make his death even sadder. Don't deny it, you totally cried too.

Mondo Owada
This guy went from asshole to redemption faster than Juzo, for God's sake. He's so cool, though, he could be the Ultimate Bro and, with that title, he would totally survive. His niceness to Chihiro, Kiyotaka and Makoto makes the second trial all the more despairing, which is exactly what Spike Chunsoft want. They come up with evil formulas to make you cry like a little baby. But he's such a nice character! Like damn, his secret is insane. And I'm sure that he's as amazing as butter as he was as a human.

Akane Owari
I don't even know what about Akane makes her so amazing. She's Aoi, but less cinnamon roll and more spicy hot pepper that will melt your face off. Her character is quite interesting and develops well throughout the course of the story, especially in Chapter 4. And did I mention she's funny as FUCK? Like seriously, she couldn't be a buzzkill if you hired her to. So yeah, she's a pretty solid character and that's why she is #8.

Yep, I think this qualifies as a successful Top 10.

Monokuma
As insane as this bear is, he happens to be one of the funniest characters ever. It's got to be just how sarcastic, unfazed and maniacal he is all the time, and how it freaks out the students. But, in all fairness, I have a high probability of being insane, so that explains why I love this guy.

Genocider Jack/Genocider Syo
The best thing about Syo is the total 180 she pulls when changing from Toko to Syo. She starts off pretty quiet and she totally loves Byakuya and then she's the loudest of the bunch and is teasing Byakuya (and everyone else, for that matter) left, right and centre! And the stuff she says is the funniest stuff to appear in the first game, it makes any scene with her a great time.

Kaizuichi Souda
This guy is like the Hagakure of SDR2, except if you took away all of the supernatural stuff, made the aliens give back the cheeseburger and shoved him into a blender with Brock from Pokemon. It's literally the perfect mix. Just watching him pine over Sonia is funny, and it kind if adds a lot to his character.

Aoi Asahina
The original doughnut queen, guys. She's the cutest character in the original Danganronpa, even more than Chihiro, just because of her mix of hot-headedness and innocence. And then add how she acts with Sakura. And then add Chapter 4. God damn you, Kodaka, why must you insult us so?

Byakuya Togami
The four eyed lemon is great. First of all, just so it gets out of my system...
MEMES.
Okay, now to the actual character. Byakuya develops well over the first game, softening a little towards his friends. By the time we get to SDR2 or Ultra Despair Girls, he's actually pretty nice! His relationships with Celestia, Makoto, Toko, Mondo and Kyoko are the best, in my opinion. He is shown to be flat out insane sometimes in Chapter 2, and incredibly smart yet persistent in Chapter 3 and 5. Just in general, he is a very serious character and that works well as a dynamic.

WEEDMAN IS BEST GIRL.
This man.
THIS FREAKING GUY.
He is hilarious, dumb, and weird all in one. His "contributions" to trials are irritating, but to hell with you if you don't laugh at them. The fact that you spend the first part of the fifth trial convincing him Kyoko isn't a ghost just makes me laugh. He is an excellent joke character, and we all love this cockroach.
But seriously, how did he survive two killing games?

But before you guys see my favourite character, here are some honourable mentions...
Leon Kuwata: He's a funny, awkward character with a fair bit of character development. It's a shame he died so soon, which led to a lack of screentime.
Kyoko Kirigiri: Straight up badass at times, but also kind to Makoto. Only problem is, under the mysterious cover is what can be a bland character at times.
Makoto Naegi: This guy is the best protagonist in the series, and builds great relationships with all the characters. His talent adds to a great part of his character, but he can also be bland occasionally.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu: This guy is funny, tough, and cool all in one. He's a solid character who develops very well, especially in the second trial, but I feel like he was outshadowed by some of the other characters.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru: Mondo's best buddy is a great, funny and serious character. It's great watching him develop, but he was cut if incredibly short in Chapter 3 and should have stayed at least a little longer.

And now, my favourite Danganronpa character is...

Ibuki Mioda
I'm sure that any of you who know me could guess this by the title, but I love Ibuki as a character. She's incredibly odd, and that leads to interesting interactions between her and Hajime. Her personality is nothing if it isn't unique, and this really makes her shine against the rest of the Danganronpa cast. She doesn't develop as much, but I don't feel like that would be needed as much for her kind of character without just going back to before. She is very well balanced, with many serious moments, but mostly jokey ones. Her Island Mode in particular is great. I just genuinely love this character, and I can't think of a good ending, so I will cut myself off abruptly.
