I'm out of shape

*Rapunzel's POV*
The rest of the day was dreadful. All day, I heard people whispering as I walked past them. I tried to ignore it, but how can you? Everyone knew me as the nicest girl, the girl who couldn't hurt anyone. But now I was know as the girl who stole everyone's boyfriends, the girl who couldn't keep her hands to herself. Eventually, school ended and I had to talk to Eugene before he went to practice. I quickly ran to his locker and waited for him. Soon, he came into sight and waved. "Hey, Blondie." Eugene greeted.

"Hey, Eugene. I need to ask you something." I said.

"Okay, what's up?" Eugene asked.

"Well, my punishment for fighting Tonya is that I have to volunteer at the orphanage and my mom said I could bring someone along and I choose you." I smiled.

"Alright, but I have practice till 5:30." Eugene replied.

"Okay! Meet at my house after practice." I cheered.

"Is it alright if I use your shower?" Eugene asked.

"Definitely!" I smiled.

"Thanks. See you around 5:30." Eugene said as he walked away with Kristoff to the locker room. I went to my locker and Merida was still there.

"Hey Merida." I smiled.

"Hey Punzie." Merida replied.

"I just wanted to say thank you for this morning. You didn't have to stand up for me." I smiled.

"That's what friends do. I won't let some snotty brat make fun of you." Merida replied.

"Thanks Merida. That's the best thing I've heard all day." I giggled.

"How was your day?" Merida asked.

"Umm, not the exactly best day of my life." I replied.

"It will get better soon." Merida smiled. It felt good to have someone other than Eugene comfort me.

"I hope." I replied.

"Well, see you around Punzie." Merida said as she shut her locker.

"Bye, Mer." I replied. I grabbed my homework and placed it into my backpack. I shut my locker and walked out to my car. As I was unlocking my car, I heard someone crying. I looked around, trying to see where it could be coming from. I followed the sobs of sorrow and finally came across a light blue car. I peeked inside and saw one of my friends. Elsa? I gently knocked on the window, hoping she would let me in. She turned and looked me. I pointed at the handle and asked if I could come in. She slowly nodded yes and I quietly opened the door. "Hey, Elsa." I sweetly greeted.

"Hey, Punzie." Elsa answered, not making eye contact. I assumed it was because she was embarrassed to be found crying in her car.

"What's eatin' ya?" I asked.

"It's nothing." Elsa lied.

"Elsa, please don't lie to me. I'm your friend. I want to help you." I replied.

"It's nothing compared to what you've been through the last few days." Elsa finished.

"Elsa, just because something bad happened to me, doesn't mean that something bad didn't happen to you. So what happened?" I asked, hoping she would answer.

"I got this taped onto my locker." Elsa sniffed. She handed me a crumpled up note. I peeled it open gently so I wouldn't rip it. I looked at the note, trying to read what was written.

Jack could never love you. He wouldn't even look at loser like you. He only talks to you because of Rapunzel.

I was in shock. How could someone have figured out that she liked Jack? I didn't tell anyone. "Who wrote this?" I asked.

"I don't know." Elsa mumbled

"Well, it doesn't matter. This note is wrong and I know it. Every single word on this note is a lie." I yelled as I ripped it into shreds. I stomped it into the ground.

"How do you know? How do you know that they aren't telling the truth?" Elsa asked.

"I know because all day, everyone has been spreading lies. I've seen them written on my locker. I've seen them written on Eugene's locker. They were saying this to make you doubt yourself. They were saying this to put themselves up." I answered.

"Really?" Elsa sniffed.

"I'm dead serious. Don't let some lie that someone wrote on your locker get you down." I replied.

"Thanks Punzie. That makes me feel a thousand times better." Elsa giggled.

"That's the smiley Elsa I know and love! If you ever need more cheering up, come to the fountain of sunshine." I smiled.

"Okay Punzie." Elsa laughed.

"Well, I should be getting home. See you around!" I smiled as I walked away.

"Bye Rapunzel!" Elsa waved. I walked back to my car and hopped inside. I drove home and ran inside.

"Hey Pascal." I panted. He looked at me confused. "Sorry, I'm out of shape." I giggled. I walked to the fridge and grabbed a snack. I quickly ate my snack and worked on my homework. Eventually, I heard the door open. I looked towards the door and saw mom walking in carrying her folders. "Hey mom." I greeted.

"Hey Rapunzel. When are you going to the orphanage?" Mom asked.

"I'm going with Eugene after he gets done with practice." I answered.

"Okay, but the orphanage closes around 8." Mom replied.

"Don't worry, he'll be here soon." I smiled. Soon, we heard a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Mom yelled from the laundry room.

"Hey!" Eugene greeted as he shut the door.

"You can use my shower. Towels are in the bottom left drawer." I replied.

"Alright, be down in a couple minutes." Eugene yelled as he ran up the stairs. I packed up my homework and went to my room. After a while, I heard the shower turn off. Soon, I saw Eugene dressed with wet, messy hair. "Alright, let's go." Eugene said.

"Fix your hair." I laughed.

"Oops, right." Eugene chuckled. He ran into the bathroom and combed his hair. "Ya know, you should have warned me about you only having flower shampoo." Eugene said as he walked out of the bathroom.

"Oops." I smiled. Eugene slid down the railing as I ran down the stairs. Mom walked around the corner, almost running into us.

"Eugene, no sliding down the railing." Mom scolded.

"Sorry." Eugene laughed. We quickly grabbed our things and headed towards the door.

"Bye mom!" I yelled as I shut the door.

"So, what car are we taking?" Eugene asked.

"Mine. I doubt you know the way." I teased.

"Well now I'll learn." Eugene smirked. We drove around town and eventually found the orphanage. "Seems like you didn't know where it was either." Eugene smiled.

"Shut up. At least I got us here." I laughed. We walked up to the doors and looked at each other. "Well. Get ready for torture." I whispered as I knocked on the door. A lady carrying a crying baby answered the door.

"Hello, can I help you?" She asked.

"Hi. I'm Rapunzel and this is Eugene. We came here to volunteer." I smiled.

"Oh thank goodness. It's been pretty busy around here, especially around dinner time." She said as she led us through the house. She led us to the kitchen as she yelled at kids to behave and be careful. "Alright. Do you know how to cook?" She asked.

"Yup." I replied.

"Great. I'm making spaghetti. I need you to boil the noodles and make the sauce. I already cooked the hamburger meat so you just need to add it to the sauce. And you, what was your name?" She asked Eugene.

"Eugene. And you?" He asked.

"Oh right. I'm Kimberly, but you can call me Kim." She rambled as she rocked the crying baby back and forth.

"Alright Kim. What do you need me to do?" He asked.

"Are you good with kids?" Kim asked.

"I am great." Eugene smirked.

"Follow me. You are going to keep the little ones entertained while I help Rapunzel cook." Kim said as she led him down one of the hallways. I started on my job. I boiled the water and quickly added the noodles. Soon, I saw Kim come running back to the kitchen, rolling up her sleeves.

"So, how long have you been working here?" I asked.

"About fifteen years." Kim answered.

"Really? You must love kids." I replied.

"Yeah, they're so sweet. How old are you guys?"

"I'm sixteen and Eugene is almost seventeen."

"Alright. Are you siblings? A couple?"

"No, no were just close friends. Our parents were best friends when they were in high school."

"Oh, I understand. What are your last names?"

"Corona. And Eugene is a Fitzherbert." I answered.

"Fitzherbert? Like Greg and Lynn?" She asked.

"Ya, that's his parents."

"Lynn used to help volunteer around here all the time. But, then she got sick and couldn't make it back."

"Yeah."

"And you're a Corona? I'm guessing your mother is Regina."

"Yeah."

"She helped us when we needed money to keep this place running."

"What happened?"

"Well, this building is pretty old and we needed to update some of the piping and the bedrooms and such, but we didn't have any money. So, we asked the city council for some money and they denied it. But, we wouldn't stand for it. So, we read through the papers and heard about your mother's latest case. So I thought to call her and she jumped on board from the minute and I told her about the orphanage. Ever since, we have had plenty of money to cook healthy meals and we haven't had a leaky pipe since." Kim smiled.

"Wow, I didn't know she did that."

"Yeah. So, what do you like to do?" Kim asked.

"I like to play piano, guitar, violin, and flute. I also like painting and hanging out with my friends."

"You play a lot of instruments. Would you mind if the next time you come, I mean, if you come back, that you could bring an instrument. I think the kids would love to learn how to play an instrument."

"Oh sure and I have to come everyday for hour."

"You have to?"

"Yeah. Long story short I got in a fight and this was my punishment."

"Well, I hope you have fun with this punishment." Kim smiled as she set the tables. There were three dining tables. Each seating about eight per table. There was also three high chairs.

"I think I will." I replied.

"Kids! Dinner's ready!" Kim yelled. Soon, we heard kids stomping down the stairs and running down the halls. I looked and saw Eugene carry a little girl with little, blonde pigtails and holding hands with a rambling little boy. I smiled and he smiled back.

"Hey Toby. I see you made a new friend." Kim smiled.

"Yeah, his name is Eugene!" The little boy grinned. Kim led Toby towards his spot while I cooed over the little girl.

"Hey there sweetheart! What's your name?" I asked. She looked at me and back at Eugene. She quickly sucked on her pacifier and waited for him to reply.

"This is Maddy. And she is two years old." Eugene replied.

"Hi Maddy. You are so cute!" I cooed as I pinched her cheeks. She giggled and looked at Eugene.

"Thanks Eugene. I can take it from here." Kim smiled as she grabbed her from Eugene. Kim brought her over to a pink high chair. She cut up Maddy's noddles and put a bib on her. She rolled her towards Eugene and me. "There. Now you can be by your new friends. Oh, better take that out!" Kim smiled as she plucked Maddy's pacifier from her mouth. "Here's her spoon." Kim said as she handed Eugene the baby spoon. Kim quickly ran back to the dining room and yelled at some boys.

"Here you go Maddy." Eugene smiled as he handed her the spoon. Maddy grabbed it and looked at it. She set it down and used her hands.

"Use your spoon." I encouraged. She picked it up and used her hands to push the noodles onto her spoon. Then she brought the spoon to her mouth and missed. We lightly chuckled as she tried again. This time, she made it to her mouth. She continued eating while we talked. "Who could give up a cutie like you?" I whispered.

"Actually, she is one of the few here that weren't given up." Kim said as she sat beside us with a plate of spaghetti. "Want some?" She asked.

"No thanks." I refused.

"What do you mean?" Eugene asked.

"Well, Maddy's parents didn't feel capable of housing a baby since her parents were taken out of a job so she was sent here. Her parents visit her everyday, but they're still trying to make the money to house her." Kim frowned.

"Aww, that's so sad." I cried.

"Well, Joey's parent died in a car accident and no one in his family was capable of housing a child." Kim frowned.

"Really?" Eugene asked.

"Yeah, it's sad. But, like most kids, he doesn't know why he was sent here." Kim replied. We looked over at Maddy and saw her trying to keep her head up. "Do you kids want to help give her a bath and put her to bed? I understand if you don't, your hour is almost over." Kim offered. I looked at Eugene and he nodded.

"We'll help out her to bed." I smiled.

"Great! I'll get the others to bed." Kim smiled as she walked over to the tables. I lifted her body up so Eugene could slip the tray out from under her. I carried her on my hip towards the sink. I grabbed a washcloth and washed off her hands and face. She looked up at me, confused at why I was holding her. She started to squirm, looking for a familiar face. Eugene quickly ran over to the sink and washed off the high chair tray. She looked around and spotted him. She leaned towards him, putting her arms out.

"Hey sweet pea. Hold on, kay?" Eugene asked as he quickly washed the tray. He eventually finished and took her from my arms. "Should we go take a bath?" Eugene asked. She leaned her head onto his shoulder, looking at me.

"Yeah, let's go take a bath." I smiled at her. She smiled back, happy to be held by Eugene. I started the bath water and made sure it wasn't too hot and that it wasn't too cold. "There. Perfect." I smiled. I quickly took her from Eugene's arms and undressed her. I placed her into the tub and handed her a toy. She looked at it, then back at me, then to Eugene.

"You can play with it." Eugene said. Suddenly she started splashing water everywhere. She was giggling and having fun.

"Wow, she looks for approval." I laughed.

"Yeah, that's a first." Eugene chuckled. Eventually, we washed her hair and body and took her out. Eugene drained the tub while I dried her off.

"There. All squeaky clean." I awed as I tapped her nose. She giggled and cuddled up to me. I changed her into her pajamas and a new diaper and cuddled up with her. She laid her precious head on my shoulder and I walked around with her. Soon, Eugene came out of the bathroom and into her room.

"Hey there sleepy head. Cuddling with Rapunzel?" Eugene asked. She slowly nodded her head as she drifted off to sleep. I gently laid her into her crib as Eugene turned on the baby monitor. We quietly walked out the door and gently shut it. We walked around for a while, trying to find Kim. Soon, she ran down the stairs.

"Hey, did you get her down?" Kim asked.

"Yup. She was a sweet angel." I awed.

"Really? Usually she doesn't go down that easy. Well, you kids can go home. I'll see you tomorrow." Kim waved as she walked to the kitchen.

"Bye Kim. See you tomorrow!" We called as we shut the door. We hopped into my car and saw it was 8:30.

"Wow, time flys when you're having fun." I laughed.

"No kidding. I didn't know I would actually enjoy being there." Eugene chuckled.

"Eugene."

"What?"

"Seatbelt."

"Ya know, you need to live on the edge a little." Eugene chuckled as he put on his seatbelt.

"Not when it comes to life or death." I teased.

"Like I could die from not wearing my seatbelt."

"You can. Even ask the police."

"Maybe I will." Eugene smirked. Soon, we pulled into my driveway.

"Want to stay for supper?" I asked.

"I guess." Eugene replied as he hopped out of the car. We entered the house and saw mom eating with Greg.

"Hey guys." I greeted.

"Hey kids! How was that?" Mom asked.

"It was fun." Eugene answered.

"You were there for over an hour. Do you think you can do it again?" Mom asked.

"Yes! I'm so excited for tomorrow. We met this cute little girl named Maddy." I awed.

"That's good. Want some hamburgers?" Mom asked.

"Yes, I'm starving!" Eugene said as he sat down. We are our hamburgers and talked about the kids we meet. Soon, Eugene and Greg left and mom and me cleared the table. Eventually, I headed to bed. Even though the day started out bad, it ended well.
