rest
"Susano?" The nurse came back after three hours as the teens were waiting patiently. Zuko was first on his feet to get to her hoping to know more.
"Are you his family?" She asked motioning them to follow as she held a clip board.
"I'm his nephew, he's my legal guardian," Zuko said quickly with the other three behind him worried.
"Only family can visit, I'm sorry but you three have to wait," she stopped his friends as Zuko turned to them surprised.
"Let us know how he's doing when you can, he needs You," Katara smiled comfortingly and Zuko nodded a little as he followed the nurse down the hall.
They stopped in front of a door as the others were still in view but he couldn't hear them, they watched him concerned but Zuko pushed them out of his mind.
"Before I let you in we have to discuss what happened," the nurse sighed a little.
"I'm sorry I should've been there with him and could've drove him here-" "kid that's not your fault, I'm not here to shame you," she stopped him seeing he was terrified and nervous.
"It was a minor heart attack, he is stable now but the car accident is what took so long in his surgery, he had internal bleeding and a major concussion, and a broken leg but his leg will be the easiest to heal," she explained looking at the papers in her hands.
"He's going to be okay right? He doesn't take medication or anything, he eats healthy and is pretty natural with what he puts in his body, the guy loves his tea," Zuko pursed his lips and crossed his arms anxious.
"Dont assume the worst, but I also don't want to get your hopes up, you can see him if you'd like but he's on heavy medication," the nurse sighed gently.
"Meaning?" He gulped.
"He's probably going to be out for a while, if he does wake up he probably may be delusional, like he's in a dream," she nodded and Zuko understood.
"I still want to see him," he urged her.
The nurse motioned him to follow, he didn't look back at the three pairs of eyes staring at him. He kept his back to them and went into the room that held his family.
Zuko walked past the nurse in the dark room and heard a heart monitor, it sent a shiver down his spine at the familiar sound. He looked over at the bed and saw tubes connected to his uncle as an oxygen mask was over his mouth and nose.
"If he wakes up just let him fall back into sleep, he needs his rest," the nurse said softly.
"Yea... a man needs his rest," Zuko pulled up a chair and sat side by side with his uncle. She closed the door and let the two men be alone.
Zuko looked at his father figure sadly seeing the bandage on his forehead and a bruise on his nose. He also had a cast around the leg, a few tears slipped down his face as he touched his uncles shoulder and slipped his hand down to the old mans rough hand.
"Youre going to be okay uncle," Zuko whispered pulling his hand up and held it under his chin.
"I'm going to stay with you, your not going to be alone," he sniffled and pressed a light kiss to his knuckle and felt more tears escape.
"Just like you never left me alone," Zuko cried a little harder when there was no reaction, no comment. It was the first time his uncles never answered him.
He bowed his head down and let out a small sob knowing no one else would hear him. God why did he leave? He was so selfish for leaving. Why did he have to be so selfish?
"Lu.. ten..?"
Zukos head snapped up but iroh's eyes were still closed, his mouth open.
"Uncle it's me, Zuko," he rubbed his hand gently to let him know he was here with him. Iroh smiled gently in his sleep.
"Mm my boy... my sweet boy..." he breathed and squeezed zukos hand back as the heart monitor started to speed up. "I'm so.. so proud..."
Zuko sobbed harder bowing his head down again hearing his uncles voice but the pace of the heart monitor made him fear the worst.
"Just go back to bed uncle, you need to rest," he rasped never letting go of his hand. The monitor going back down to a steady rhythm as he relaxed.

Jin bounced her leg checking the time and glancing at the door Zuko went into 3 hours ago.
"My plane is in four hours, I don't know what to do," she sighed frustrated. They haven't heard anything since he left, the nurse didn't even come back to them.
"Then just leave," Katara had her arms crossed.
"Excuse me?" She narrowed her eyes.
"You need to pack still and all, you can leave, I'll stay back if anything happens," Katara sighed brushing her hair out of her face annoyed.
"Oh wait maybe that won't work out either," she said sarcastically looking at Jin.
"Katara don't start that," Sokka kicked at his sister.
"I'm not leaving till I know both of my guys are okay," jin frowned with a small glare.
Katara looked at her but nodded softly. Jin wouldn't know a lot longer than she would if iroh was okay or not, the plane ride, the time difference, Jin cared about iroh too, she couldn't be selfish about who would be in there with Zuko first. He probably needed his friend more than her.
"What if you miss your flight?" Katara asked not knowing if it would be sooner or later on an update.
"I.. shit I don't have the money to get a different flight," jin realized.
Katara pursed her lips a little glancing down at the door but let out a breath.
"Sokka can you drive me to zukos?" She asked quietly and swallowed her pride.
"What?" Sokka asked surprised.
"Uh yea, Jin you should stay in case something happens, I'll pack your stuff and Sokka can drive you to the airport from here when we get back," she stood up stretching a little.
"Re-really?" Jin asked shocked and Katara put her hair in a bun.
"Definitely, you came to visit Zuko, and I'm pretty sure it'll be easy to figure out your stuff from his at his place, only girl there and all," Katara smiled back at her.
"I... thank you," Jin gulped a little as the siblings walked away.
"He needs someone with him here, just call me if something happens," she nodded softly looking back at Jin.

Sokka started the car as they got in and he looked at his sister a little worried.
"Are you okay?" Sokka asked.
"It's not a fight that either of us are going to win, it's also the last thing anyone needs right now," Katara sighed a little as they drove out of the hospital parking lot.
"What about what she said about you and Zuko not working out?" He raised a brow a little and Katara shrugged.
"I've never really thought about how far Zuko and I could go with our relationship, it hasn't been that long that we've dated, we'll go at our pace and if we end up staying together through high school, college, even with life, I wouldn't be upset if I got to stay with him longer," she smiled kindly back at her brother.
"We're just kids, we were best friends that love each other a lot, it's always been a dream of mine to marry my best friend, if I'm going to spend the rest of my life with someone I want to make sure we still are... you know surprising each other and being able to be how we are now," Katara blushed at the thought of marrying Zuko. They were teens, but yea it's slipped her mind about who the man she could one day marry would be like, everyone does..
"Maybe that's just how our family is," Sokka chuckled.
"I get that with Suki, and that's how it was with mom and dad, and your right, if your being with one person for the rest of your life why not be your best friend?" He agreed smiling back at his little sister.
