family business
Zuko sat at the table as he stayed with Katara and her friends after school as they went to a diner to hang around. The others were ordering still as he waited, his foot bounced with his mind else where.
He sat at a long meeting table as he was surrounded by older men and women in suits as azula was on the other side of him and his father on his left.
"I do believe I should begin spreading the company out, giving a portion to each of my children here when they're older," He clenched his fists thinking about the meeting, his father acted like a father... he smiled at him, treated him like as if nothing happened.
Zuko focused on his breathing but he just felt anxious and paranoid. He never understood the family business. Why he had to be apart of it..
"Zuko what do you think about our partnership with japan? You stayed there quite some time," Ozai looked at his son as Zuko lifted his head.
"I didn't spend much time in the business world of japan but the people there are intelligent and are a good add on and alliance I think could be good for the future of susano agency, they're reliable," Zuko told them confidently as azula looked at her brother and nodded.
"If anything we should drop Belgium and raise japan," Azula flipped her hair out of her face leaning back.
Ozai smirked a little.
"Sir, with no disrespect, how do these children know anything about the company? They don't work here and if I'm correct your son hasn't stepped close to taking over after you nor in any company building in a very long time," a man stood at the end of the table.
Ozai frowned.
"These are my children mr. miller, do you doubt my own bloodlines intelligence? Do you think they wouldn't know a thing before stepping into this building?" Ozai clasped his hands together over the table.
"Yes I have rough patches with them, but my children have always been the smartest in their grade and probably have a higher mindset than yourself," he looked at the older man calmly.
"And also yes, you have disrespected me and my family," he glared then snapped his fingers. A woman walked past Zuko from behind and went to miller.
Zuko watched her pull out a gun and didn't waste a moment to let the man realize what was happening.
Bang
Many of the adults looked disturbed but no one was shock. Neither of the children even flinched at the gun shot nor the body dropping to the floor.
"May we continue?" Ozai asked with a calm smile.
"Hey so how was dinner with your family? Did you end up going?" Katara sat with Zuko in the booth as she had a number for where the food will be brought to them.
"No, I didn't end up going, stayed home to talk to Jin," Zuko told her simply, he didn't hesitate to lie.
"How is she doing?" Katara asked curiously.
"She actually said she's gonna start saving up to visit me here, i want to try helping her out," Zuko said softly with a small smile. He missed his friend.
"Well does your girlfriend know you've been with Katara this whole time?" Toph walked over to them and sat next to Katara at the booth as all three of them were squished now.
"She's not my girlfriend, Jin is a friend from home, and yes I've talked about Katara with her," Zuko rolled his eyes at the girl despite her not seeing him.
"Aw you talk about me?" Katara cooed.
"You've come up a few times, she's excited to meet you," Zuko nodded as he saw Suki, Sokka and Aang come back to the table.
"So Zuko are you going to the party this weekend?" Suki asked sipped her soda as she leaned against the table.
"What party?" Zuko asked confused. "Probably not,"
"Ty lee is throwing a party, anyone can come," Suki nodded with a shrug.
"Oh that's what she was talking about, I try to ignore her half the time, her and Azula and Mai are always talking about that kind of stuff," Zuko leaned back against the seat.
"Whos mai?" Toph asked.
"One of my childhood friends, those three have been close for a long time, her fathers a governor so our parents were close," Zuko explained simply as Katara raised an eye brow.
"Did you have any guy friends?" She laughed a little.
"Jin is another breed of humanity," he said flatly.
"Can't wait to meet her," Katara snorted as he smiled a little.
"So like is he just going to be with us now? Is this a thing?" Sokka asked as a employee brought their bags of food over to the table.
"Yep," Katara stole one of her brothers French fries.
"You boys should go hang out all together tomorrow or something," Suki looked at her boyfriend smirking.
Sokka and Zuko looked at each other and shook their heads.
"No thank you,"
"I don't know, it kinda sounds fun," Aang beamed.
"What would we even do?" Sokka scoffed as Zuko groaned a little.
"Could go see a movie?" Aang offered.
"Wow it's like you can have a boys date," Toph teased as the girls laughed at them.
"I can't anyways, I have to work," Zuko sighed a little looking bored.
"I'm sure your uncle will understand," Katara looked at him.
"I'm.. I don't think so, I've been slacking lately," Zuko made a face as she offered a small smile with hope.
Zuko suddenly got a call and knew it was from his father.
"I'll be right back," he got up and walked away.
"What?" Zuko asked going outside to get some space.
"Where are you?" Ozai barked.
"I never agreed to work for you, I came yesterday to see what you had going on, I'm not interested," Zuko pursed his lips frustratedly.
"You think I'd beg a weakling like you to work for me? You can't even shoot a gun," Ozai scoffed.
"Then what do you want?" Zuko asked confused as he leaned against the wall.
"I want you to attend my meeting, I can sense there's rats at my table and with you and your sister there... they seem to come out more with your presence," Ozai explained to him as Zuko didn't feel like it was right.
"No thank you," he whispered closing his eyes.
"I'm telling you boy, I have eyes everywhere, don't think I won't hesitate to send someone after you or set that pathetic tea shop on fire with you inside," Ozai snarled. Zuko gulped a little as he forgot how to breathe.
"What do you want from me then?" Zuko asked in a dark tone.
"Come to my office tomorrow boy, I have a job for you," Ozai told him sternly, Zuko inhaled deeply closing his eyes.
"Fine," he growled and ended the call.
"Fuck!" Zuko spun around and kicked the wall angrily. He leaned his arms against the wall breathing deeply as his rage bubbled up.
He always hated the family business.
