Count On Me

Jirou's fingers danced on the keys. Her nails clicked on the black sharp keys as she maneuvered her hand to a new chord. Immersed in the soft music, she sighed. Time seemed to be moving so quickly, and music was becoming an ineffective coping mechanism. She realized that she couldn't prevent the inevitable. But it was coming way too soon.

"I know what you're doing."

Jirou would be lying if she said that she didn't flinch. She turned around to see Momo sitting on her bed, holding a CD. The CD player broke a month ago, and she never bothered to fix it.

"What am I doing?" Jirou asked, despite knowing the answer herself. She fought back a sigh.

"You're distracting yourself," Momo simply replied. "I even heard you hit a few extra sharps."

Jirou looked down at her fingers. She felt numb and cold. "They're accidentals, they're supposed to be there," she grumbled.

"Then the name fits, because it sure sounded like an accident," Momo remarked. Momo's light pink dress seemed so out of place in the dull darkness of Jirou's room. Customized Deep Dope window shades were over the windows. Momo stood up and put the CD back in it's place on shelf. "What are you thinking about?"

She shrugged. Momo was far too perceptive for her liking. "School, I guess. It's almost over."

"And what about that scares you?"

"I don't know. It's complicated. Everything's coming so soon and I can stop it."

"Is there a reason for you wanting to stop it?"

"I don't wanna leave my friends, I've spent nearly four years with Kaminari and you guys. I feel like I'll forget everything. There's no way I can just—Why're you acting like a therapist, what the hell, Momo?"

Momo smiled down at her. It was soft, but it was hesitant. "I'm just trying help you."

"I know, I know."

Momo placed her hand on Jirou's shoulder. Gently. But Jirou shrugged her hand off. Momo looked taken aback. At the moment Jirou felt bad, but it didn't last. "Just leave."

Momo made her way to the door. Her strides were smooth and elegant. She opened the door. With one last glance back she said, "It'll be nice if you left your room for a change. Kirishima might need a friend. It's not one of his good days." And with that, she closed the door behind her.

Jirou felt even more empty.

She returned her attention to the piano, and she placed her shaking fingers on the keys.

Momo walked down the hallway, her fingers played with the lace collar on her dress. It felt like it was choking her neck. She would have to resew a few stitches when she had the chance.

Not many people seem to be taking their upcoming graduation well. Bakugou has been having less outbursts. Momo was grateful for that, but it made her day quite dull. She missed Iida yelling at Bakugou to lower his voice. Kirishima and Mina, the two social butterflies had locked themselves in their rooms. Satou wasn't baking.

Momo took the elevator, but it was something she had always went out of her way to avoid. It made her feel terribly claustrophobic. It dinged and the door slid open. She walked through the common room and entered the empty kitchen. She flipped on the light switch. It was sticky. Momo gagged. It took a moment before the the lights flickered on.

Momo opened the fridge and looked through all of the contents. She decided to ignore the cartons of expired milk, and she reached to grab a half eaten box of McDonald's chicken nuggets. It wasn't her's but she shoved a few in her mouth before placing where she found it.

She left the kitchen to see Todoroki sitting on the couch. She walked up and sat beside him. As gentle as possible she said, "Hey."

Todoroki didn't acknowledge her. Momo couldn't help but feel the slightest bit insulted. They sat in silence before Momo went to stand up. She should be finishing her essay. But Todoroki grabbed her hand and said, "Stay."

Momo sat back down. "Is there anything you need?"

Todoroki shook his head. "I don't want to go back," he stated. He still hasn't made eye contact with her.

"Home?" Momo assumed.

"Yeah, home." Todoroki agreed. "I'm debuting as a Pro Hero. I'm unable to live with an agency. I'll have to stay with him until I'm established."

Momo decided not to press. It seemed like a personal matter, but Todoroki needed to know that she would be there for him no matter what. She placed her hand on Todoroki's arm. He flinched away. Momo wasn't planning on commenting, for she was well aware that Todoroki didn't have the most excellent childhood. "You're welcome to stay with me if you come across any issues."

Todoroki nodded. "At least I have his money..." Todoroki said. He finally looked at her. "Do you want to buy out the vending machine?"

Momo smiled, the concerned lines between her eyebrows vanished. "Oh, my. I'd rather not."

"I have his credit card in my pocket."

"No, I'm good," insisted Momo with a small laugh.

"We should do something together."

"Oh? Like what?"

Todoroki shrugged. He was focused on the tables across from the room. The chairs weren't pushed in all of the way. Momo reminded herself to fix it once she stood up.

"Ooh! A road trip sounds nice!"

Momo jumped and whipped around. Her hair slapped her face.

Mina had leaned over the couch, and she was chomping at least four pieces of bubble gum with her front teeth. Her hair looked absolutely wild. "Don't worry, I wasn't here long. I didn't hear you two whispering sweet nothings to each other."

Momo simply stared back at her.

Mina gasped. "Oh no, were you guys planning a date?!"

"You have the wrong idea," answered Todoroki.

"Oh, okay!" Mina jumped over the couch and squished herself between Todoroki and Momo. Mina wrapped her arms around their shoulders, but not before Todoroki scooted over a few extra inches. "We could bring the whole class!"

Planning a group outing sounded exciting. She'd have to make reservations and call someone to cater their food. What would her classmates eat, anyway? Of course she'd have to mention her plan to Aizawa, but Momo was sure he would allow something as long as it was safe.

Todoroki leaned down and rested his elbows on his knees. Being the voice of reason Todoroki said, "There's a chance it won't be allowed. We don't want a repeat of the training camp."

Oh. Momo never considered that.

"But it'll make people happy," Mina insisted. "And that's what matters."
