Telepathy pt2 - Yeonjun

Yeonjun couldn't put the new girl and her book out of his mind all night, or all morning.

That was the reason he arrived first to class, and was now unpatiantly tapping his fingers on the desk as he watched his classmates arrive.

When Y/N finally walked through the door, he almost jumped off his chair, but remembered in time that everything was happening in his head, and that he shouldn't overreact.

Yeonjun dropped occasional glances at Y/N in anticipation of hearing the end of the story.

Finally, she pulled out her book.

Yeonjun channeled his power on Y/N, and Y/N alone. He had to know what happens.

She opened the book, and Yeonjun leaned towards her, as if he could hear better that way. Y/N's eyes dropped to the page and began running along their length, reading line after line.

But it wasn't what Yeonjun expected to hear.

She read something about a school of witchcraft and wizardry, and some kind of sorting hat.

But no dragons.

"Hey," he called "Y/N!"

She looked at him, and the images disappeared from her mind.

"What?" She asked.

"Is that the same book that you were reading yesterday?"

"Uhm.. no. Why do you ask?" Her pretty eyes read confusion again.

"Because.. well.. the book you read yesterday sounde.. I mean.. the cover looked interesting. What was it called?" Yeonjun stumbled over the sentence, making Y/N even more confused.

"Eragon," she answered, "it's my favorite series, I totally recommend."

"Oh.. ok, thanks!"

"No problem!" She flashed him with that cute smile of hers, and went back to reading.

Yeonjun didn't want to listen to anything but the book from yesterday - Eragon, so he went to reading other people's thoughts instead.

Beomgyu had been eyeing Y/N since her arrival yesterday. When Yeonjun entered his mind, he had to clench his teeth to stop himself from shouting at his peer.

Beomgyu had always been a fuckboy, but the dirty little thoughts he was having about Y/N at the moment really pissed Yeonjun off.

She was such a pure, innocent person, she didn't deserve any of his thoughts.

Yeonjun was a second away from sprinting into action and wiping Beomgyu's smirk off his face, but Mr. Park began his lesson, saving both their asses.

When class was over, Yeonjun went straight to the library. He'd never cared about anything as much as he did about this book. Maybe he'd finally found what he'd been missing this whole time. Maybe the disparate hunger for excitement could be satisfied with travels to unreal worlds through printed words on paper, created by a human mind much like his own. Maybe this was the missing puzzle piece.

*******

Arriving home, Yeonjun flopped on the couch and flipped open the prologue of Eragon.

He read a page.

Then two.

Then three.

Then he put the book down.

That magical feeling of living inside the story and anticipating every following word had somehow disappeared.

Yeonjun picked the book up again and read another page.

But... nothing.

It was a simple book. Simple words with simple meanings. But what had changed? Was it because he listened to someone else read that it felt real? Was he so used to listening to others that he didn't have an imagination of his own?

*******

The following day, Yeonjun hurried to meet Y/N before class.

"Y/N! Hey!" He shouted as the girl walked into class.

"Oh, hey, Yeonjun!" She greeted and approached him.

"I uhm.." how could Yeonjun frase this so it doesn't sound weird? "Could you.. read to me?"

"Read to you..?" Y/N repeated, her pink lips parting in wait for his clarification.

"Yeah.. that book, Eragon." That's when a brilliant idea hit Yeonjun. "You see," he began with a new found confidence, "I'm dyslexic, and I really want to read that book. But I can't read it on my own..."

He felt bad for lying to Y/N, but this was the only solution he saw without having to reveal his power to her.

"Alright," the girl answered, "but class is going to start soon. Do you want to meet outside during lunch? I could read to you there."

"That would be great!"

"See you then!" She rewarded Yeonjun with her iconic smile that he began to adore, and went to her seat.

******

They met outside, just like planned.

The school yard was overrun by kids, and it was way too noisy to read here, so they went to the far end of the property, where there was a bench in the shade of trees.

They sat a good distance apart.

It was nice and quiet here, no one around to disturb them.

Y/N opened the book and began reading out loud from the beginning.

"Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. A tall Shade lifted his head and sniffed the air. He looked human except for his crimson hair and maroon eyes. ..."

Yeonjun closed his eyes and looked into Y/N's mind where he saw the creations of her imagination. He saw the Shade and the Urgals; the elvish riders, and the sapphire dragon egg they were carrying.

The way her mind illustrated the full, vivid images was astonishing! It seemed to Yeonjun that he was living a sweven.

And that was the moment he knew what he was missing all this time.

Y/N and her beautiful mind who could take him anywhere and anytime in the entire world and beyond with a single thought.

He moved a little closer to her and looked at her as she read.

Someday, thought Yeonjun, I will tell her of my power! I will tell Y/N how amazing her mind is! If only she knew the full beauty of it...

Someday
