I whip around and my eyes land upon a girl that I've never seen before. Her face is bright red, her brown hair is messy, and her makeup is smeared. Her eyes are puffy, tears rapidly flowing out of them and down her tear stained cheeks. Her eyes wander upwards, her blue eyes meeting my brown ones.
"What the fuck are you staring at?!" She glares, anger evident in her voice.
"A mess– I mean you," I smirk and turn away.
I glance in the mirror, seeing her ball her hand into a fist. She stands there for a moment seething in anger before she storms into a nearby metal, brown, vacant stall. She slams the door shut and I snicker to myself as she angrily locks the door. I gaze at myself in the mirror one more time. When I see that I don't have anything on my face, black t-shirt or in my dirty blonde hair I exit the bathroom.
I stroll to the exit doors, happy that Namjoon is now gone. I reach the doors within a couple of moments and I let out a sigh of happiness. I push one of the two doors open. I exit the old building and breathe a breath of fresh air. I hum in happiness, glad that I don't have to walk through and breathe in the dust filled air for a while.
"Now that I'm done being in that hell hole, I can go to the store and grab some supplies." I mutter to myself like a crazy person.
I saunter down the two-lane road in the direction of the small grocery store. Even though we have roads we don't have many cars here. The only people who have cars are the wealthy people on this island and they're surprisingly gas cars. Weird right? Then and again everything that happens here is either weird or crazy. It's 2051, instead of their being flying cars there are rich snobs throwing people on an island and forcing them to live here.
People were right about the technology being super-advanced though and the Annual Natural Disaster Games or ANDGs for short is a prime example. Every year at a random time they section this giant island off and each section contains a different natural disaster. They range from hurricanes to tsunamis, tornados and even asteroids. Each year the sections have different disasters and a section will never hold the same natural disaster more than once in a row.
A roar in the distance and something humongous in the sky catches my attention. My eyes dart to it, landing on a white airplane that's flying away from the island. I scowl at the thought of them dropping off a plane full of innocent people who have no idea what's in store for them starting in the next few hours. Usually when they bring people they'll send supplies needed, but hours before the ANDGs begin they only drop people off.
They do this so supplies are scarce and more people drop dead from starvation along with dehydration. As for people, once you arrive here you can't leave and if you try to escape they'll kill you. I've watched people sneak onto the plane. Within minutes the guards dragged them back off of it and put a bullet in their head in front of everybody. My dad built a boat one time to try and experiment to see if he could escape.
That way if he did he could alert someone of what was happening on this island. He gave me a pair of binoculars before leaving. When he got rather far away I put the binoculars up to my eyes. Seconds later a great white shark jumped out of the water and bit him in half. Let's just say that I was traumatized after witnessing that. I'm to this day terrified of the ocean and five days later mom found out she was pregnant with Jungkook.
"Hey, Clem!" Yoongi, my neighbor and Seo-Young's brother, greets me.
I stroll past him and do what I do any other day which is ignore him. As I walk away he mumbles his famous word 'bitch' and stomps down the road like he does any other time. I roll my eyes like always and continue my walk to the grocery store that's in my view now. I make my way through the medium sized parking lot and enter the brick store minutes later. I stand just inside the store, staring at the mess unfolding in front of me.
Civilians rush everywhere throughout the ten aisle store as they try to get their hands on as much supplies as possible before there's none left. As for the shelves, most are already bare. Employees rush through the store with pallets full of supplies. Before they can make it to their final destinations people have already grabbed all of the supplies and thrown them in their already filled shopping carts before running off.
People fight over cans of food and bottles of water, some of them receiving punches to the face. Trash along with crushed boxes of food lays scattered all over the floor where they've fallen out of people's carts and have been ran over by someone else's shopping cart. Blood is smeared all over the floors and walls, presumably from people who got their asses kicked.
I hear wheels that rapidly turn and approach me. My eyes dart to the left just in time for an old lady to sprint at me with a full shopping cart, her face showing nothing but fear. I stumble back a few steps just in time for her to swing her metal cart towards me where I was just standing. An overfilled, tied plastic bag sitting in the child's seat unravels. A red apple tumbles out of the bag, landing right at my feet. I reach down and pick it up, pissed off at the fact that she would've rammed the cart into me had I not moved from my original spot. She halts in her tracks, turns, gives me a fake smile, and holds her hand out.
"I'll take that, give it to me now." She demands, her voice laced with venom.
I stare at her for a moment before blowing the dirt particles that have latched onto the shiny dark red apple off of it. I then raise it to my mouth and take a bite out of it. Her face transforms into slight disbelief and anger. A drop of juice drips out of the juicy apple, rolls down my chin, and I wipe it away.
"Finders keepers, losers weepers. Now get the fuck out of here. You're going to die in a few hours so I don't know why you bought supplies. You should have left them for the people like me who'll survive this." I tell her before taking another bite of my apple and walking away.
"Hmph." She stomps out of the grocery store pushing her shopping cart.
I smirk knowing that I got under her skin and I go to the right side of the store, civilians continuously sprinting past me. I take another huge bite out of the red apple and wipe away another drop of juice that escaped from it. I then snatch up a basket full of various canned food, bottles of water and other supplies that are scattered on the floor next to an unconscious middle aged white man. I step over his skinny body and head towards the one place that nobody is heading to.
The sushi shop which sits in the corner of the shop.
Might as well get some since I've been craving it for the past couple of weeks and didn't have the money to pay for it. Wait, who said that I had the money now and was going to pay for all of the supplies I managed to grab along with the sushi? There are so many people here that I can easily sneak out of here without getting caught and being forced to pay for it all. I take the last bite of my apple and throw the core on the floor with the rest of the trash.
I step up to the open display case filled with different sushi. Unlike the rest of the store, the sushi shop hasn't been touched. Six containers lay in two rows, three on each shelf. Open spots surround the containers from where the workers weren't able to make any more. My eyes slowly scan over the containers, finding most of them to be the same thing, California Roll. My eyes soon land on the last container that holds ten pieces of sushi.
"Spicy Seafood Combo. Hmm, I've never tried this one before." I murmur, and hook my arm under the black handles of the basket, the two pieces of plastic resting across the inner part of my elbow.
I grab a pair of wooden chopsticks out of a nearby plastic black basket. I pull them out of the white paper wrapper that they're in and toss the paper on the floor. I yank the chopsticks apart, the pieces of wood breaking with a loud snap. Afterwards, I pick the container of sushi up. I casually gaze around to see if any of the employees are nearby. When I don't find anyone I rip the sticker off of the container that's keeping the lid attached to the bottom. I toss the lid on the floor next to the paper. I position the chopsticks in my hand and pick a piece of sushi up. I pop it into my mouth and hum in satisfaction at the different flavors that hit my tastebuds.
'Rice, seaweed, salmon, crab, cucumber, and avocado paired with the orange spicy mayo drizzled on top. Not too bad, this is definitely a new favorite now.'
Before I can fully finish the first piece, I pick a second one up and shove it into my mouth.
"You're the first person I've seen on this island today that's acting normal."
