~ Flashback ~
I peel the last piece of snakeskin off of the deceased black snake. I toss it into the trees in front of me, the skin disappearing into the darkness that surrounds us.
"Eww." Jungkook, my younger brother who just recently turned twelve mumbles, and pokes the snake meat with a stick.
I chuckle at him and snatch the stick that I carved the bark off of from him. I then shove it through the entire snake. Afterward, I hand it back to Jungkook who takes it, and his face shows one emotion only, disgust. I lightly laugh at his reaction and pick two nearby rocks up.
I strike them against each other and after a few times the smell of them burning fills my nostrils. I strike them against each other once more and a small flame appears. I slowly set the rocks against the sticks and leaves that sit in a pile in front of me. Within seconds they catch on fire, and the flames ward off the darkness surrounding us that the moon couldn't. I take the skinned snake from Jungkook and hold it over the small fire so that it can cook.
"Which disaster do you think we'll face in this section?" He quietly asks from next to me.
"It's either going to be zombies or an earthquake. We've already dealt with the other disasters." I brush a few strands of my long, wavy, dirty blonde hair behind my ear.
"I wish mom–
"Don't." I warn him through gritted teeth.
I hear him sigh and I frown.
"I'm sorry sis." He apologizes.
"It's okay, just don't mention her again please." I don't want to be reminded of what happened and memories of how she died to resurface." I softly let him know and give him a small, but sad smile.
He gives me a guilt filled smile in return and we both face ahead, our eyes now watching the small flames dance.
"How long will it be until the snake is done cooking?" He inquirers, his stomach growling on que.
"Hopefully soon," I whisper, and turn the stick a bit so the snake can cook evenly on all sides.
A small yawn comes from Jungkook and my eyes flicker to him.
"Get some sleep, you've had a long day. I'll wake you up when the snake is done." I converse, a hint of tiredness in my voice.
"Can I sleep next to you?" He questions with fear evident in his voice. "I don't want to sleep over there by myself." He quietly adds.
"Sure." I softly reply and flash him a smile.
He smiles in return, lays down, and rests his head on my leg. I smile down at him and watch his eyes close, his eyelids shielding his brown eyes. Soon his breathing slows down, his chest slowly rising and falling. My smile grows as I go back to watching the snake cook.
I begin to silently thank God for not taking him from me also. I then watch the flames flicker and continuously dance. Tiredness soon starts to take control of my body and mind. I try to fight it off, knowing that if I fall asleep something could come along and kill us both.
"Don't fall asleep, don't fall asleep." I repeatedly murmur.
I continue to fight to stay awake even though I've been running nonstop for the past three days with no sleep whatsoever. Soon, minutes tick by, and my eyes finally shut, my body entering sleep mode for the first time in days.
~ 15 Minutes Later ~
"Clem, wake up! Wake up, Clem, please!"
I groan, still tired and Jungkook continues to roughly shake me.
"Five more minutes!" I hiss as I try to fall asleep again.
"No, zombies!" He whisper shouts.
My eyes instantly open and adrenaline starts to flow through my veins. In a split second my body goes from being tired to being wide awake. I snatch up my katana that sits on the other side of me and I jump to my feet. I sling it over my small body and yank the katana out of its sheath. I listen closely for the familiar groans that emit from their rotten, bloody mouths. Before I can tell Kook to have his gun ready, multiple loud groans are heard. They come from the trees in front of us, to our right and behind us.
Without any hesitation, I grab my bag that's half-filled with supplies. Jungkook follows suit and hurriedly picks his bag up. We both throw our bags over our shoulders. Zombies start to stumble out of the trees into the small clearing that we're temporarily staying at and I tightly grasp Kook's hand.
Without another second wasted, I turn to my left that's clear of any zombies. I run, Jungkook by my side and we follow the path that the full moon illuminates for us. The both of us leave behind the now charred snake that I dropped in the fire while sleeping and the zombies that chase after us in the dark of the night.
Is your gun out and is the safety off?" I question.
"No." He admits.
"Always have your gun out and the safety off at the first sign of trouble or even if you just have a bad feeling," I explain.
"Got it, Clem." He replies, pulling his gun out and he turns the safety off.
I hear a loud groan in front of us and a walker appears. It lunges at me and I swing my katana. The sharp silver blade connects with its neck, completely decapitating it. Blood flies everywhere, landing on everything including the both of us. The walker's body falls to the ground, its head landing next to it. We continue to run, the blood from the walker dripping off of our faces, staining our already blood-covered clothes even more.
We soon find ourselves in a rather large field that's being illuminated by the moon like the path we were just sprinting down. I stop in my tracks, and he does the same at what now lies in front of us. Standing on three sides of us are a couple of dozen zombies. I frantically gaze around and it isn't very long until I hear loud groans from behind us.
"Bastards!" I growl, referring to the rich fucks that are in charge of this entire fucked up game.
I drag Kook a few feet towards the other zombies who are just standing still and staring at us with their sunken glazed-over eyes.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" He screams at me
~ End Of Flashback ~
Before the rest of the flashback can finish playing like a slideshow, the girl's bathroom door flies open. It hits the wooden wall and brings me back to reality.
