Tom's airsick

You were listening to your Spotify playlist when Niki walked by, looking a little frazzled. You took out one of your earbuds and looked around. "Harry, what's up with Niki?" Harry looked up, surprised. "Oh, he hasn't told you?" You frowned. "Who hasn't told me what?" Harry sighed. "Tom gets airsickness sometimes, depending on the flight. I think the last time he got it was on the way to Canada for the Edge of Winter. Mum's probably gone to get a sick bag or something."

You love Tom, you really do. But vomit was one of those things you couldn't deal with. Airsickness is slightly different as it's not something one can catch, but still not too fun.

However, being the good girlfriend, you got up out of your chair, climbed over your little brother and mum and moved to the row where Tom was. His head was resting against the window, flushed. Paddy was dozing next to him. "Pads?" YOu shook his shoulder gently. "Hi," He mumbled.

Oh, being 13 was a blessing.

"Can we swap seats?" You asked. "Sure, where to?" He asked, grabbing his handheld rucksack from under the chair. "Next to my Lil bro." YOu pointed and Paddy walked off. You took his seat and took your fuzzy jump off. You draped it over Tom's shivering body. He didn't react but moaned quietly with his head still against the window. "Tom?" You whisper asked. "Go away Paddy," Damn, he must be feeling shit. "Tom, it's me. Y/N." He moved his head, "OH, hey. Why are you here?"

"Harry said you were feeling shit so I thought I'd be a good girlfriend and come help you," You answered, pushing some curls away from his head. Tom sighed and moved up in his seat. "That's sweet and all, but I don't want you to see me like this," You pulled his head into your shoulder and ran your hands through the rest of his hair. "Sick and vain. Only you babe."

"Do you need anything?" You asked after a while. Niki had come back briefly but had gone to Paddy after he freaked over some turbulence. Tom had dozed off but stirred awake a few minutes ago. "No... I don't know," Ok... "Well, do you feel sick?" You asked, playing with his curls again. "In which sense? Of the flight, or like I'm gonna puke?" Tom smiled, looking up at you. "Haha. The latter shithead." You joked. "I've felt sick the whole flight. But it might not be a bad idea to grab a bag soon."

"Ok, I'll call for someone." You reached up to press the air assistance button. The button lit up yellow, then dimmed. Unfortunately, the air staff took too long. You looked around the chair in front, then at Tom's face. You reached into your bag and got out an old carrier bag from Greggs (lmao, good job you kept your bag clean, huh?) It wasn't very big, but it should do the job until someone brings something. You pushed yours and Tom's bags back under the seats and took another look at his face. "Tom?" You asked, leaning forwards slightly. He gently shook his head, closing his eyes and breathing heavily. "Tom, look at me," You said, moving forward in your chair.

His eyes opened quickly and he lurched forwards. You thrust the bag under his face. He breathed heavily for a small second, gripping the bag tightly. He coughed, wetly (it sounded like it hurt, and you made a face of sympathy) and reached. Thank god most people had their earphones in, or they were sleeping. It wasn't a nice sound at all.

You placed a hand on the nape of his neck and rubbed his shoulders. He lurched forwards again and threw up some more in the bag. When he pulled his face out, it was pale he looked pretty awful. The air stewardess finally arrived and took one look at Tom before walking back up the plane again. She came back pretty quickly, but this time had a small bin and a sick bag. You gratefully smiled at her as she took the, now ruined, carrier bag away. You pulled Tom into a hug and stroked his hair. He moaned into your shoulder.

Not long after he'd fallen asleep, he has woken up again. "Hey," You whispered. "Hey," He whispered back. "What's up?" Tom winced, moving up his seat some more. "I hate this. Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I feel full, sometimes I feel empty. It fucking sucks." He whined. You actually felt sorry for him, you had the flu a few weeks back and felt exactly the same. "Aw, baby. I know, but at least we're landing in half an hour," You tried to reassure. Tom's face suddenly blanched. "Can you pass me something before I-" He began, his voice strained. You barely had enough time to ram a bag under his face as he retched. You winced while he was sick, it sounded painful.

After Tom had pulled away and optioned to rest his forehead on the cold plane window, you tied up the little bag and put it in the little bin. Niki then walked over, "How is he?" She asked, with a sympathetic look. "Uh... all things considered, he's ok. Been sick a few times, but slept most of it." Niki sighed. "Hey, how's Paddy? I heard him with the turbulence," Niki groaned, "Don't even. It's taken me this long to assure him we aren't gonna drop and die," You snorted. "Sorry you had to deal with that, I'm his mother, that's my job," Niki said. You waved your hand, "Honestly, don't worry about it. He's done it for me before, and I'm sure he'd do it again." Niki smiled like she knew something I didn't. "Oh, he definitely would. Without a doubt." The two of you were in silence for a few minutes, opting to watch the ill man you both loved.

"I'm gonna go sit down now, we're landing in a few minutes. You ok?" You nodded. "Yeah, we'll be fine. I'll meet you off the plane," You said. Niki smiled, looked at Tom once more, then left to her seat.

You woke Tom up and told him to pack his stuff up, as you were landing in a few minutes. The air stewardess came by, making sure everyone was plugged in and everything was as it should be. She also took away the airsickness stuff Tom had used. Once you were all packed up, Tom let his head rest on your shoulder, sighing deeply. "You ok baby?" You asked, letting your head rest on top of his. "Thank you for today... I appreciate it." He said. You smiled. "It's what girlfriends are for,"

"I love you," He mumbled. Your heart did something strange.

That's the first time he's ever said those words.
