Whatever all this "oh I see color now!! I've met the one!!" or "your life becomes more vibrant when you're close to being with your soulmate" bullshit you hear, you never understood it.
You've always been seeing in color. It made no sense to you when people would suddenly be surprised and happy. Maybe you've been with your soulmate since birth, but you're pretty sure life was just messing with you.
"Hey it's Peter! Leave a message!" Peter's voicemail says in your ear. You roll your eyes by not being answered for the third time today.
"Peter! It's (y/n)!! What are you doing?? We were suppose to hangout today!" You paused in the middle of your message, looking down at your cappuccino cup in front of you in the table.
"Please, if you listen to this, I'm still waiting for you at the cafe." Then you sigh, ending the call on your phone.
Putting down your device, you look down at your drink. The golden brown liquid was swirling with white foam on the top. You puffed out your cheeks as you continued to wait for Peter.
You were kinda used to be waiting for him, knowing him since you two were in kindergarten. You've been through everything with Peter, and it was like you could never be without him.
"Stood up?" An employee with a pixie hair cut and dark lipstick appears in front of you. You look up at the friendly lady.
"No, he's just running late." You reply with a reassuring smile. She nods, still wiping mugs and hanging them on the rack on the counter.
"Must be nice seeing colors, huh?" She then asks, wiping her hands on her white apron. You furrow your brows.
"O-oh. Yeah, I guess." You answer, trying to seem reasonable. It still never made sense to you.
"You don't?" You ask back as your hands wrap around your cappuccino cup. She shrugs her shoulders.
"It would be nice to see things than just dull." She gives you a cheeky grin before leaving after you nod at her statement.
"Let me know if you need anything." She says as she turns the other direction.
"Thank you." You smile, picking up your cup and taking a warm sip.
In the middle of your sip, you notice the yellow wall of the cafe suddenly turn faded, as if its saturation was gone.
You raise an eyebrow and look down at your drink. The brown color now looked gray, but the white was still white.
You put your cup down, looking at your surroundings. Everything you saw now looked.. dull and boring.
The baby blue table looked gray, the red counter looked faded... it was starting to fuck up with your mind.
All of a sudden, your phone starts ringing. Expecting it to be Peter reaching back to you, it was your mom instead.
You slid open the call.
"Hello?"
"(Y/n)!! Come home right now!!" Your mom screams in your ear. You pull the phone away from your face a little.
"But I'm waiting for Peter–"
"Peter is in the hospital!!"
Your heart drops. Your breathing stops. It felt as if the world stopped moving in time.
"What?! Why??" Panicking, you pick up your bag and scramble out of your seat. You look for the employee and wave at her, indicating that you had to leave. She waves back as you turned to leave through the door.
The yellow cafe wall was starting to look yellowish gray and the yellow street light illuminating the darkening sky looked more white.
You started to run home, fearing for what's ahead, fearing for what's happening right in front of you.
"I don't know, but he's seriously hurt, (y/n)..."
'When you meet your soulmate, your life fills with vibrant colors; you see a different type of light. When your soulmate leaves you, they take that color with them, leaving you with the gray and lifeless sight of the world.'
