CHAPTER 13

Elements like earthen pots, marigold garlands, terrariums and lit candles were all beautifully incorporated to ramp up the look and feel of the house. The stage, where all the action took place, was highlighted with gobs of marigold & tuberose trellis etched to the ceiling and some flower buckets & marigold garlands prettifying the backdrop. All in all, the décor lent a very cozy and warm feel to their wedding shenanigans.

Dressed in an ivory and gold Sherwani, Karan entered on a horse with his Baraatis to Mr. Mahajan's farmhouse. After few rituals he was made sit in the mandap. If his work mates would look at Karan's face right now, they could not recognise this version of him. It was hard to believe that the confident guy in client meetings and this puppy faced Karan were same. Nervously Karan kept looking here and there and then his eyes fell on his Bhabhi. Who was already looking at him. She assured Karan with her smile that it's all okay.

Then Karan's eyes fell on Monami. Who looked like a dream as she walked under a Phoolon Ki Chaadar in a heavenly red traditional lehenga. Keeping her look all raw & simple, she did her hair into soft curls and complemented it well with soft & dewy makeup. To finish off her look, she clads her neck with a statement choker necklace along with matching earrings and a few chunky bangles.

This looked no less than a dream to Karan. If happiness could be a moment that this, was it for him. In all smiles Karan greeted his lady love.

Now the bride and groom were sitting next to each other in the marriage pavilion as the priest was enchanting hymns. Nervous, excited, happiness and a lot many emotions were what Karan and Monami felt within them. Both sat quietly adoring and trying to capture as much the present moment they could in their eyes. This moment was too beautiful to be real.

Monami tighten her fist as she held on to her lehenga. She could feel the thrusting heartbeats of her. Nervously she turned her gaze towards Karan who like an obedient child kept observing each and every act and word of the priest. He wanted to absorb everything that this moment had to offer. The warm late afternoon sunlight, occasional breeze, few clouds here and there, ringing laughter of random guests, tinkling sounds of spoon and plates as they met each other, warmth of the holy fire lit in front of them, priest performing rituals, his near and dear ones standing by the mandap, butterflies he felt in his tummy, the mixed emotions that he felt in his chest, and warm love that he felt by occasional touch of fingers of his and Monami's. All this was just too much to be real.

Karan felt a gaze stuck on him, he turned to only find his lady love was adoring him. He took Monami's hand in his. Both felt a kind of ease.

While at once side of the garden Karan and Monami were all set to welcome new beginnings into their lives at the same garden in a corner stood Sanjana looking for her opportunity to undo the past mistakes she had committed. After running her gaze back and forth a hundred times scanning the garden, she finally found Siddharth standing by Koel and enjoying lunch.

Sid we will have to save Karan's juttis from bride's tribe, said Koel.

Don't worry Ko main hu na I will handle everything, said Siddharth.

So where are the juttis, asked Koel and Siddharth at the same time.

Siddddd, you lost them already it has been hardly 20 minutes since I handed you the juttis.

But I thought you took them along you, said Sid.

Koel gave a death stare to Sid.

I had them just right here at the exact spot you were standing. I had kept them on a plate a covered it with a cloth, said Sid searching here and there to find whereabouts of the shoes.

So where did they go then, asked Koel.

I think Koel that they are stolen, said Sid.

Siddharth, I need to talk to you, said Sanjana putting up the most charming and wide smile she could.

But I don't want to talk to you, said Siddharth gulping down the last bite of kabab he had in his mouth, said Siddharth as he didn't even give a heed to even look eye to eye to her.

But I really want to let you know that's really important, said Sanjana in her pleasing tone.

I think I should give you both some time alone, said Koel.

And I think that Koel we have got more important thing to look for we should leave, said so Siddharth left and dragged Koel along him.

After searching for Karan's juttis almost everywhere only to find nothing but disappointment and few scolding. Siddharth once held one of Karan's distant uncle's jhuttis which looked quite similar to Karan's and the outcome of this whole scenario was of course not good. And at another instance Siddharth searched for juttis under the table by lifting the table cloth only to be misunderstood by aunties seated there that Siddharth was some pervert. If koel would have not come on time Siddharth definitely would have been thrown out by the security guards. Koel and Siddharth had to conclude with a heavy heart that they had lost the bet as the main item Karan's juttis were missing or maybe stolen by the bride's side already.

Already exhausted by the sting mission find Karan's juttis Koel and Siddharth like brave battle warriors decided to give this a try yet again. But this time both decided to go in different differences directions.

Siddharth was busy looking for juttis here and there when he almost bumped into someone.

On raising his eyes, he found that it was none other than Sanjana.

Siddharth, we need to talk, said Sanjana.

Can't you see I am busy, said Siddharth as he started walking away.

Siddharth I am really sorry I know the way I decided to end our relation was very wrong. I know we could have talked our differences out, said Sanjana.

You know what it's just of no use cause somethings when broken can't be mended no matter how much we try said Siddharth as he turned to leave but a strong grip by his wrist prevented him to leave. It was Sanjana.

Or maybe everything that's broken could be mended but it's just we didn't try. I know I have hurt you, Siddharth. You only know your side of story but the truth is after talking to you last time that evening even I wasn't able to sleep. Staring onto the ceiling all night all I saw was flashes of "us". I blamed myself, cursed myself and when I finally realized the damage that I had done, it was already too late. You had blocked my number. I came to your office but you refused to meet me. I know I was at fault. And maybe I was just suffering the heat of what damage I had caused. Siddharth I am really sorry. And I mean it. I know it's late to even think of mending things. But for the sake of what we had all this while please give my side of the story a hear. You know ever since things turned upside down between us, I started distancing myself from even our friends' conversation and you know why? Because Sid I was way too scared to face you. Face the questions your eyes might ask me. Face the sudden silence between us. Sid please for once just listen to me. Listen to my side of story, begged Sanjana as tears floated in her eyes as she held Siddharth's hands.

Siddharth in life you got everything on your fingertips ever since the start and I had to pave my way to get a scratch of what I wanted. You called a 6 bhk villa with a swimming pool and lawn your home and I called a 2 bhk home. Uss din jab tumhare dad ne mere hometown ka naam bhi nahi suna thana Siddharth uss pal realize hua kitne alag ha hum. Jab restaurant me tumhare dad voh dishes order ki jinka naam tak mein dhang se nahi le paati toh samaj aaya kitne alag ha hum. Siddharth tumhare liye life equals to fun ho sakta ha mere liye it's a path of struggles. Siddharth hum bhahut alag the to exist together. I was afraid that what of things might not work out latter. Yes, I was stupid for calling out our relation that ways. But at that moment that was all I could think of as right. But at that point all I could see was that we had more areas where we were on different pages than points, we were at same page. I was afraid that if I not call it quit now then it would become really painful to call quit latter. At that point I could just see no future of us. And guess what I was wrong. After spending months by myself I realized that in life there's nothing called made of each other it's just efforts and love that keep two people going. I was stupid Siddharth to not understand that what we had among us was way more above than these differences of ours. I am really sorry for pushing you away, said Sanjana with tears filled in her eyes.

I think we should leave now, said Siddharth loosening the grip of Sanjana's hands over his.
