Chapter 9: Testing Part 1

{EDITED}

<~Rob's P.O.V~>

"That was one heck of a fight," I said, giving Jerome a weak smile, which can only be expected of me when I'm being extremely fatigued from running after Mitch, let alone fight against The Hunger Deens Champion himself.

"You did put up a good fight though, Roberto," Mitch chuckled, Jerome's arm wrapped around his shoulders. "You made me lose some pounds while I was trying to run from your bloodthirsty self." I nervously chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck.

"You guys were amazing," a voice ringed out, which I recognized to be Shadow, as she strolls in with Liam behind her.

"Oh, please. We have been in situations a heck lot worse, Shad. Trust me," Lachlan remarked, laughing slightly, Vikk resting against his chest with a slight smile on his face.

The purple-haired girl giggled, "You can take a rest for the day, you boys really need one." Gesturing towards Mitchell and Preston, who had fallen asleep in Jerome's arms and against the wall respectively.

I chuckled, heaving myself up with my hands. Walking towards my boyfriend, I carefully picked him up bridal style as not to stir the sleeping boy. The couples, including Preston and I, walked back to our rooms. Jerome planted a kiss on Mitch's forehead before snuggling in bed with him, quickly falling into a deep sleep. Vikklan, on the other hand, just collapsed on the bottom bunk together, their eyes fluttered shut as they drifted off into a deep slumber.

Looking back towards Preston, his hair was messy and his clothes covered with leaves and dirt from the Hunger Deens match. A small smile was plastered on his face. I laughed inwardly to myself and planted a kiss on the boy's lips before cuddling in bed with him. My eyelids started to grow heavy, my vision started to fade as I slowly fall asleep...

"...Robbie...t..wake up sweetheart~" a voice said sweetly into my ear. I grunted, pulling the covers over my head.

"No..." I groggily replied, dragging out the 'o'. Lachlan, or at least, I assume that it was Lachlan, for my eyes caught a glimpse of blond hair, sighed.

"Mate, get the fudge up or we will pull you out of there," he warned. I removed the covers, my eyes adjusting to the overwhelmingly bright light. All of them were fully dressed out of their previous clothing, staring at me with expectant looks.

"Try me," I challenged, wrapping myself with the covers. However, I wasn't on the bed for long as I was yanked out, my body hitting onto the marble floor with a loud thud.

"WHAT THE FUDGE, DUDE?!" I snapped, as Jerome shrugged with a cheeky smirk. Reluctantly, I pulled myself out of the covers and went towards the bathroom to change. As I took off my blue hoodie and white shirt, I heard a small 'meep', causing me to turn around to see Preston, covering his eyes with a deep scarlet spreading across his cheeks. I smirked and decided to tease him a little.

"Like what you see?~" I mocked, prying my boyfriend's hands away from his eyes, his blush darkened even more.

"R-Ro-Robbie!~" Preston shrieked, pouting slightly. I chuckled and continue to get dressed. I put on a white undershirt and a grey hoodie, with the zipper open, and dark jeans before walking out with Preston, the two couples smirking.

"How was it Puursstun?~" Mitch teased.

Preston glowers at him. "I'm going to stab you with a rusty spoon Mitchell."

(A/N Thank you DarkDisco7 for inspiring me to write it)

Vikk, Lachlan, Jerome, and I chuckle, looking at Mitch's slightly frightened expression. The door opened, our heads turn towards it. Shadow and Elizabeth emerged from the doorway.

"Oh, good y'all are awake! Come on, time for breakfast," Shadow declared, Elizabeth whizzing past her, out of the door, naruto running towards the cafeteria and hollering, "YEEEEEEEEETTTTT!!!!", which everyone in the base could probably hear.

~~Le Time Skip After Breakfast~~

"So, what exactly will we be doing?" Mitch asked as we made our way to the training room.

"Today, we will be testing your abilities and how much your senses have heightened," Shadow responded with a simper.

~•Mitchell's P.O.V•~

Upon entering, the training room held six, large chests. Each chest had a different name of ours on it. Glancing at the others, I walked over to the chest with my name on it. I opened the chest to find that it was filled with all sorts of equipment. Blindfolds, daggers, small discs, and a laser pointer were a few of the items. I looked over at Jerome, who was standing next to me with his own chest and peeked inside of his storage bin. All I saw before I turned back to my own chest was a dagger and a pair of real handcuffs.

"Instead of zero to two trainers, today you will have five of us. These trainers will vary from person to person so that you will be running headfirst into a battle that you have no plan or strategy against, like you idiots normally do. Because I am normally your opponent, along with my good friend Elizabeth of course, I will not be one of your trainers, and neither will Elizabeth. I have hired, and by that, I mean that I dragged our friends out of beds and away from video game consoles, 20 professional- or not, mostly, ok none of them are- trainers to run several tests. Since you all have different abilities and powers, you each have your own customized tests. Good luck!" Shadow explained from the doorway before she left our sight and closed the door.

The small white, fireproof, water-resistant, blast-proof, wind-resistant, friction absorbent, suddenly expanded around us, becoming at least fifty times larger. A protective glass rose in front of us with a door at both ends. A list of names flew down in front of our faces with my name at the top. At the bottom of the list was an organization of letters that spelt out "bring materials requested by trainers". Five doors from the back of the room opened and from them stepped out Adam, Ross, Jason Probst, Matt, and Taylor. Adam tapped a wrist band on his arm and a hologram appeared in front of us with a list that read,

"Blindfolds
Daggers
Sword
Sword belt
Scabbard
Bow and arrow".

I thought for a moment before snatching the items on the list out of my box and slinging the quiver across my body. After I had wrapped the sword belt and the scabbard around my waist, I slung the diamond sword into the scabbard and wrapped the blindfolds around my hand to make it easier to carry multiple things at the same time. Jason and Tayler pulled out a couple of boxes of extra daggers and tossed mine into them. Lachlan swiped his finger from the right of the hologram to the left, and it moved with his finger, giving off a dissolving effect as it moved. The hologram of the list faded into thin air as Matt mimicked putting on the blindfolds.

Taking the hint, I nodded at him before I tied the three blindfolds over my eyes. I felt a pair of hands resting on my shoulders while Ross led me backwards until I was a few meters away from the centre of the room, besides the area of the room that was protected by the bulletproof glass. Ross's footsteps rang through my sensitive ears as he ran back to join the other four.

"Mitch, your test is that you have to avoid being hit by these daggers that we're going to be throwing at you. You have to sense them with your hearing instead of your sight. Seto enchanted all of them so that they can't hurt you, but they will glow when they touch you in a way that would injure you in a normal battle. Got it?" Sky asked. I nodded and bounced on my heels. After he asked if I was ready, I nodded again.

"Three... Two... One!" Jason counted down, throwing a dagger at me. The hush to the friction between the dagger and the air rushed through my ears. I lifted my leg to dodge it and turned to the side in order to dodge a second. I caught one of the flying blades and used it to strike another dagger. Sensing that one of the projectiles was rushing towards my stomach and a sixth sharp edge was aimed to hit between my eyes, I rolled in midair to avoid getting hit. The blades flew past me and bounced off of the protective glass.

I took in a sharp breath as I turned to the side, a dagger soaring right past my chest. Back flipping out of the path of three of the short swords, I used the sleeve of my checkered jacket to catch another long knife, feeling it slide right between the soft cloth of my hoodie and my pale skin. Using the opposite hand, I pulled out the sharp edge and held it in front of me, but no light shone through my bandana. Hearing another blade flying towards my ear, I threw the knife in my hand at the nearest projectile and fell backwards and on to my back in order to dodge the next dagger. In a successful attempt to avoid being hit by a low-flying blade, I pushed myself off of the ground and hopped out of the way.

Jumping forwards, I slid through the air and in between three more projectiles, barely twitching at the smooth feeling of the steel sliding against my hoodie. One of the knives ran across the small of my back, almost causing me to cringe. As I landed, I heard the hush of another sharp edge rushing through the air and towards my shoulder. I rolled out of the way and jumped back onto my feet, lifting my heels off the ground slightly. I heard Vikk squeak and mutter something about the glass being too clear in the background as I reached out and caught another one of the daggers. Preston and Rob were laughing as I struck two blades out of the air and jumped, twisting and pushing off of a third projectile. The weapon slipped out of my hand as I backflipped and countered another flying edge, my hands catching the ground. I twisted to the left in the middle of my back handspring to clear the path of another four blades.

The sound of flying objects filled my ears as I dove to the side and twisted around, my chest now facing the ceiling. Another weapon soared over me before I pushed myself up once more. Ignoring Adam's horrible throw that ended up not even reaching me along with Adam and Jason's laughing, I leaned back to avoid a couple more knives before I sprang back up onto feet again. Snatching the third dagger out of the air, I struck each projectile out of the air with my fresh blade. The weapons flew towards me violently quickly, and I could hear the soft ring of sweat drops hitting the floor like teardrops falling from the sky. The quiet yet malicious edges of the weapons hissed into the open air, the vibrations too high for the average human air to properly comprehend.

I grabbed another blade out of the air once it was centimeters away from my face and tightened my grip on the projectile. I opened my eyes, only to see a dark shade of red denying me of the sense of sight. This went on for another ten to fifteen minutes before Sky called for us to stop.

"Keep the blindfolds on. Next up is hitting moving targets with your bow and arrow," Jason instructed. I nodded and nocked an arrow onto my bow.

"This time, the targets will be moving quickly, but only short distances. Locate them with your hearing and hit as close to the center as you can. They're very small targets; no bigger than an avocado," Matt continued, pulling a switch.

"They'll make a cute, happy beep if you hit the bullseye, and an angry, frustrated buzz if you hit somewhere else. If you miss, which you probably won't, knowing you, the target won't do anything at all," Ross added on, wiping sweat off his forehead.

"We aren't going to be on this side of the room, because the targets are going to move everywhere you could possibly shoot them. The mostly quiet thing above your head is a camera. Don't shoot it. It'll be giving us a better view of the training field," Taylor finished as the five of them walked behind the protective glass and pulled up a viewing screen. The screen showed what the filming drone above my head was capturing on camera as the targets spread out around me. I couldn't tell if this was what was actually going on, but it was the only scenario that made sense in my head.

I pulled back the arrow and shut my eyes tight. An ever so quiet shuffle could be heard my inhuman ears, and I immediately repositioned my bow and arrow, the smooth wood comforting against my fingers, which are probably going to become calloused in the near future if I don't start wearing archery gloves. My target stopped moving, but I let my arrow soar anyway. A happy "blurp" sounded from the levitating target as it turned to exit the room silently, my arrow still plunged into its center.

This kept on for approximately twenty minutes, and I didn't miss a single bullseye the whole time. Eventually, Jason called for me to stop, and the targets flew back into the wall. As the tiles began to shift to whichever setting Dan decided was needed for the next person, I tried to undo the blindfolds, which I may have done a little too well. After I flailed my arms helplessly for a couple of minutes, Jerome jogged over to help me, chuckling at my occasional complaints.

My blindfolds in the box with my name on it and my sword laying next to them, I began to take off my quiver, which now held nothing but air. Once my bow and quiver had been removed, I proceeded to sit down in front of the glass, watching Sky, Ant, Jason, Matt, and Ross leave the room. In place of the five trainers were five new trainers, Kenny, Ty, Ian, Jason, and Tyler, walked in. They too had a box of knives and Jerome his tossed the dagger from his box into the other box.

Jerome's training began, and, being the totally supportive and loving boyfriend that I am, I slumped against the wall, too tired to stay up and watch. My eyes drooping closed, I yawned tiredly.
