Chapter 17: Reminiscence

Genevieve almost lost consciousness due to the lack of oxygen. She kicked Aaron to set herself free from his grasp, and he fell to the floor. She sunk to the floor panting, thankful that she didn't pass out.

"What the hell do you want from me?! Look, I don't know who you are or what you want but just leave me be," she rambled.

Aaron sat up looking at her flushed face. It didn't work. She didn't remember who he was, their friendship, even their relationship. He felt hopeless, like he wasn't capable of doing anything from that moment. Genevieve meant the world to him, but at that moment he felt that like his world just crumbled before his eyes. It's as if all the words he said to her before lost their meaning.

"It's hopeless...... she's gone...." he whispered to himself.

Genevieve got up still stunned from the moment.

"Whatever you want from me, I don't have it. Please, just leave me alone" she said as she walked out of his dorm.

Aaron stood up and pulled out the chair from his desk. He sat down remembering what they had before entering the academy. He remembered how they'd talk until 3 AM and wake up the next morning only to find themselves talking to eachother once again. Aaron recalled also how they met. They both were too shy to talk until one day, they weren't nervous anymore. He missed it all; he missed her.

The Next Day...

Genevieve was at the garden. Surprisingly it was lightly snowing on campus, but she decided to go there anyway. Genevieve walked up to the rose bush noticing the edge of the petals were covered with frost. She didn't just admire the roses, no; she admired the elegant lighting and how the sunlight reflected off of the snowflakes that gently fell. She gazed up looking at the sky as a snowflake fell on her cheek right below her eye. She then gazed down to the roses as the snowflake melted. The droplet of water from the snowflake fell down her cheek as if representing a tear of her sadness.

Her thoughts with a combination of memories began to consume her. She felt a slight sadness but couldn't contemplate the reason for it. Genevieve kept staring at the roses and reached out for one of them. As she was reaching for a stem, a thorn pricked her right ring finger. A sudden memory flashed through her eyes. She stood up quickly panting. Genevieve had no idea what she just saw.

A few moments later she looked to her left and saw Aaron. With a displeased expression on her face, she looked down at the floor and exited the garden; not even glancing at Aaron. He just looked at her as she exited. He began to miss her warm and gentle smile as well as her bubbliness towards him. Like Genevieve did, he stared at the roses. All he could do was think of her when he did that. Slowly but surely, he began to think deeply for a solution to fix his sorrows. He looked down to the stem of the rose and had only one solution to cope with his sadness.
