|°Chapter 23: Freedom°|
{Cat Noir's POV}
I yawned and tried to sit up as a bright light hit my face. I opened my eyes to see a bright flashlight in my face.
I tried to stand up, but then I found out I was tied up. "Who are you?! Where is Ladybug?!" I yell at the man who was in front of me.
He chuckled, and moved away. My eyes were still adjusting to the light when I realized it was a body laying on the floor. A red body.
My eyes widen with tears. "M-M'lady...?"
I clawed of the chains without even realizing it, tears streaming down my face.
I walk up to her bloody body which was still in her superhero suit. My knees give out under me from seeing her limp body.
I hold her in my arms, her warm blood tricking down my suit.
My transformation releases.
"I'm sorry, kid." Plagg says before flying into my pocket.
"No..." I mutter, nearly chocking in my tears. "No!"
I put her limp body down, growling and breathing heavily.
"Plagg, Claws Out," I whisper.
I walk up to the man and hold him against the wall by his neck, squeezing harder with every deep breath I took.
"You," I growled. "You killed her."
The man, who's face was now purple, smirked a weak smile and nodded.
"You will pay." I whisper, barely audible to myself. "Cataclysm."
I watch as the man turned into ashes and flew with the wind. He is the air now.
Once again, I fall to my knees, feeling empty and dead inside. I lost my world again, and yet again I couldn't save her.
"I don't deserve to live..." I whisper as I climb the stairs to the roof.
My Miraculous beeped, and Plagg flew out my ring.
"Find a better holder, Plagg. I'm sorry." I take off my ring and give it to him. I heard him sniffle, nod, and fly away.
"Goodbye Plagg..." a tear escapes my eye. "Goodbye Paris..."
"Goodbye, Princess."
I jump off the roof, closing my eyes. I smile.
Freedom.
This is what it feels like.
Freedom.
~~~*~~~
I gasp, sitting up. I feel a weight slide off me and jump up.
Tears were falling from my eyes and I couldn't catch my breath.
Her voice... where is it coming from?
"Kitty!"
O turned my head frantically, trying to get there voice out of my head.
"Look at me! Kitty!"
"Help me..." I choke out. "Please... I'm so sorry..."
"Adrien! Open your eyes!"
I open my eyes to see Marinette looking at me with concerned eyes. She hugs me.
"P-princess? But, you were just... g-gone..." I stare in disbelief.
"I'm right here, Kitty. Shh, I'm here." She rubbed my back soothingly.
My heart was racing as if I had just ran a marathon, and the sweat collecting on my head seemed as if I actually had. I couldn't catch my breath as more and more tears trickled down my face.
Taking deep, slow breaths, I calmed down. I held Marinette tightly, as if I let her go one last time that would be it. I could never get her again.
After the tears had stopped, she pulled away and held my hand. "What happened?"
I felt my bottom lip quiver as I explained. "I had a dream that a m-man killed you," I took a deep breath. "a-and again, I couldn't s-save you."
I was trying so hard to be strong and not cry. I didn't want to cry, I didn't want her to see me as weak.
"You okay, kid?" Plagg asked, holding a piece of camembert.
I nodded, although I was still unsure.
"We can go home and rest, if you want." Marinette offered. "It is three in the morning."
I shook my head. "We need to find Icebreaker first. Where could he have gone?"
I stood up, grabbing Marinette's hand to help her stand too. I stretched and yawned.
"His akuma is definitely in the heart shaped gem on his abdomen." I say.
Suddenly, a shooting pain ran through my head. I gasp, holding it tightly between my hands. I groan, Tears threatening to spill.
"Adrien?!" Marinette exclaimed, and I looked through squinted eyes to see consternation written on her features.
I took a deep breath again, clearing my mind as the pain slowly faded away.
"I-I'm okay." I smile weakly, standing up straight again.
She smiled, but still looked worried.
"Plagg, Claws Out." I transform.
"Tikki, Spots On!" Marinette yells, way more enthusiastic than me.
We propel from building to building, hoping to find the victim.
But to no avail.
It was now about 4 AM and we had school tomorrow. Er, should I say today.
I yawn. "We should head home and try again tomorrow,"
Ladybug nods. "Okay. I can barely keep my eyes open."
I chuckle, walking over to her. I pick her up and hold her bridal style, and she wraps one arm around my neck, cuddling into my chest. She smiles, and I could feel my heart beat pick up as my cheeks grow warm.
I make my way to her house, one hand on my baton an one hand on her.
(Marinette's POV)
I woke up the next morning, feeling the uncomfortable cold breeze rush past me. I keep my eyes shut as I pull the sheets closer to me, struggling for warmth.
I yawn and open my eyes, realizing that Adrien should be next to me, sleeping peacefully.
I sit up. "Adrien?"
No answer. "Tikki?"
I hear a yawn from a tiny voice, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
Tikki flies to my face. "Good morning, Marinette!"
I smile. "Morning. Do you know where Adrien went?"
"He's... just go downstairs and see for yourself." Tikki giggled.
I climb out of bed and down the mini staircase, out the trapdoor and towards downstairs. I heard faint laughter and voices.
I open the door to see my parents laughing at an embarrassed Adrien, covered head to toe in some type of batter, a bowl slipping down his head.
I smile and walk in fully. Adrien blushes deeper. "O-oh, Marinette! Y-you weren't supposed to see this," He smiles sheepishly.
"Adrien, what happened?" I smile as I placed my finger on his nose, took a sample off, and licked my finger, giggling. It was pancake batter.
"I-I was trying to cook you breakfast, but as you can see, I can't bake that well..." He trailed off.
I smiled. "Can I help?"
He nodded eagerly, earning a laugh from me. The bakery hasn't opened yet, so we had time.
I wiped Adrien's face with a wet cloth, put the bowl in the sink, and checked he time.
6:02 AM.
"Wow, I actually woke up early today!" I exclaim happily.
We started working on the pancakes when we heard the jingle of the bakery door open.
"I thought it was locked?" Mom said as she left the kitchen. "Sorry, we're not open ye-- oh my!" I heard a crash, indicating that she just dropped the glass bowl in her hands.
Adrien, Papa and I raced out of the kitchen to check out the commotion.
I stated in horror as a shape icicle was pointed to my mother who was raised high into the air. The icicle went closer to her chest by the minute. She struggled and kicked, glaring at the villain.
"Give me your Miraculous or say goodbye to your mother."
"Mom!" I scream as the icicle started to touch her clothing.
"I thought Hawk Moth didn't remember us being heroes!" Adrien whispered.
"Play it off," I whisper back.
"I don't have a Miraculous." I say simply, a faux look of confusion playing on my face.
Icebreaker looked confused for a moment, but shook his head nonetheless.
"You have ten seconds," he stated. "One."
"I said I don't have a Miraculous!" I shouted.
"Two."
I look around frantically, searching for something to save my mom. My eyes landed on a mirror. My reflection.
That's it.
"Take me instead! If you think I have a Miraculous, let my mother down and take me." I said, a plan developing in my head. I held back my smirk.
I put a frown on my face as Icebreaker set my mother down and walked up to me.
"Princess, no-" Adrien started, but cut himself off when he saw me wink.
I nodded to the cashier, where a hairdryer laid, plugged in.
He nodded as Icebreaker grabbed me.
"Wait, before you take me, can I say goodbye?" I ask, my eyes pleading.
Icebreaker nodded.
I walked over to Adrien and hugged him. Whilst doing so, I whispered in his ear.
"Cataclysm, kitty."
I pulled away, feeling Icebreaker's icy claws pulling my away. He turned around, carrying me, and started for the door.
"Hey, Icebreaker!" Adrien shouted. Icebreaker stopped walking.
"Freeze this!" Adrien turned on the hair dryer and put the setting on high heat.
Icebreaker dropped me, but I slid my way down, making sure to grab the heart shaped gem on his snowman stomach.
Icebreaker didn't even know I took it. I took off, running upstairs.
"Tikki, Spots On!"
After I transformed, I heard a groan.
I race out of my window and through the bakery door.
"Ouch..." Adrien groaned, laying on the floor as he held his stomach.
He smiled weakly as he saw me.
I slammed open the door.
"Icebreaker." I seethed his name out my teeth like venom.
I held the gem in hand as he turned to me.
"Nooo!!!" He shouted and attempted to take it from me. I threw it to the ground and it broke, a black and purple butterfly fluttering from it.
"That's enough evil doing for you, nasty bug." I said, swinging my yoyo. "Time to de-evilize!" I swing my yoyo towards the akuma, capturing it into my yoyo. I pressure my yoyo, setting the now purified big free. "Bye bye, pretty papillion."
And that's when it dawned on me.
I did a Lucky Charm yesterday, but I detransformed and it disappeared. I detransformed without saying Miraculous Ladybug. I haven't used a Lucky Charm yet.
I took a deep breath. "Lucky Charm!" I shouted, and a phone fell into my hands.
"Where am I?" The man who was once Icebreaker asked.
"My wife! I need to all my wife!" The man suddenly yelled, and my Ladybug vision told me to Give him the phone.
After a few minutes, he handed me back the phone. My Miraculous had beeped and I was running out of time. "Thanks," I said.
He left the bakery.
"Miraculous Ladybug!" I shouted as I threw the phone in the air.
It left the bakery, but some stayed to fix the bowl mom had dropped.
But it didn't pass over Adrien...?
"You okay?" I ask, my transformation releasing. Tikki flies to the cookie jar.
He smiled. "Purrfect."
I rolled my eyes at the over used pun, but hugged him nonetheless.
"We did it without you having to transform," I smiled.
"It's 7:32 guys, you should start getting ready for school," Papa said.
I nodded, even though he couldn't see it. "Too bad for the pancakes," I said.
Adrien laughed. "It's the memory that counts, though."
I smiled at him, taking his hand in mine. "You're one I will never forget."
"Always?" He whispered, for head against mine. He stuck out his pinky.
I hooked my pinky around his. "Always." I whisper before closing the gap between us.
