Chapter 48: Performance and Prom
Amy warning
*Roman POV*
Tonight is the night. My very last highschool show. I feel both excited and terrified. I want this show to be perfect, to leave this school with an amazing last performance.
I'm in my prince outfit for the first act, and right before the curtains come up Patton wishes me luck. He then goes up to help with the lighting. I assume Logan and Virgil are in the sound booth, but I can't see them.
I enter the stage. The show has begun.
---
As I take my final bow, I feel a sense of pride in my heart. The show was amazing, it went off without a hitch. I wish it wasn't my last one.
"Great job, Ro!" Patton says.
He traps me in a Patton hug as I try to get to the dressing room. My suit is dashing but is more uncomfortable than you would believe.
"Thanks, Pat. You did great too," I say.
He blushes.
"It was no trouble,"
"Now, as handsome as I look right now, this suit is killing me. I'll be right back," I say, slipping into the dressing room.
---
A few days later, and it's Thursday. Prom is in a few days, and I'm going with Patton. I can't wait.
"Hey, Roman?" Virgil asks.
"Yeah?"
Class starts in a few minutes, and we're at our lockers.
"I want to ask Logan to Prom. How does that work?"
"You just... ask him," I say.
"That is impossibly simple. What's the catch?"
"Ok, so here's what you should do. Get some flowers, a romantic setting, and when the moment is right, you say 'Logan, will you go to the Prom with me?'," I say.
"That is way too extra,"
"Well, I'm sorry. Extra happens to be my strong suit!" I say.
"Fine. So do you think he'd like it if I just, like, asked him? Sometime after school?"
"Maybe. I still think you should do the flowers. Here, I have a fake rose," I say.
I reach into my locker and pull out a fake blue rose. It was one of the props in the show that I got to keep.
"I'm not going to ask why you have this, but thanks," He says.
"Not a problem," I say.
---
Virgil did end up asking Logan, and it was a success. I knew it!
"Virgil, I am making sure you look beautiful tonight, I don't care what you say," I say.
I'm at Virgil's house, making sure he gets ready for this.
"You saying I don't already look beautiful?" He says jokingly.
"No, I'm saying you could be even more," I say, "But not as beautiful as Patton, I'm afraid that's impossible,"
"Fair enough,"
"Now, let's get you ready!"
*Logan POV*
Prom night. It's 5:30, so I have an hour and a half to get ready. Patton is freaking out, trying to make sure I look good for tonight. I have to remind him that he should too, considering he's going with Roman.
"Patton," I say, "Do you have any idea what you're doing?"
"Nope. But I've seen Roman do this, so I think I know," He says.
I have a feeling this isn't going to turn out too well.
---
"Oh, Lo, you look great," Patton says.
"You really do," Christie agrees.
Once Christie heard I was getting ready for the Prom she immediately video called me, mostly to help but also to ease my concerns and be a big sister.
"Now go out there and sweep that boy off his feet," She says.
"I am not going to- nevermind, I know what you mean," I say.
"Well, I have homework to do, so have fun, Logie! Be safe and responsible! Make sure Roman doesn't do anything stupid!" Christie says.
"I can't guarantee that last one, but I'll try," I say.
And with that, Patton and I drive off to the Prom. I can't get the nervous bubbly feeling out of my chest, no matter what I try. The only thing I can think about now is Virgil, and how I'm spending the entire night with him/
*Amy POV*
"Would you fake date a guy for me for 30 bucks?" I ask.
I'm getting ready for the Prom, but I don't have a date. Which is unacceptable. I want Logan, and I am going to get him.
"Make it 40 and you got a deal," Mark says.
Mark is one of my friends that I've known for a while. He's got an undying loyalty to me, which is good because I need him to do stuff for me.
The look I'm going for at this dance is hot, obviously, and a little unrecognizable. I don't want them to immediately recognize me and think something is up, no that would ruin my plan.
As I put the finishing touches of makeup on, I look at myself in the mirror. This Prom's theme is Midnight Gardens or something like that, so my dress is dark blue with green trim. Not pink, which will definitely help, considering I haven't been seen out of pink since third grade.
---
I watch from across the room as my targets enter. I have to get them away from each other if this is going to work. Luckily, Mark is on it, asking to talk to that emo freak. I go over and start a conversation with Logan. He can't know it's me.
"Hello," I say.
"Greetings," He says.
Aagh, he's so cute.
"Do I know you?" He asks.
"Not really. I've seen you around. My name is Megan," I say.
Mind games. It's all about mind games.
"Good to meet you. I am Logan," He says.
"I know. I'm gonna be honest, I think you're really cute. That Annie girl did not deserve you," I say.
Yeah, I got my own name wrong. It was intentional.
"Annie?"
"Annie, Amy, whatever her name was. She didn't deserve you. Neither does the Sanders boy," I say.
"Why?" He asks a defensive demeanor up.
"Oh, I thought you knew. Look," I say, pulling out my phone.
Did I mention Mark was extremely good at photoshop? Yeah, I got him to edit that emo freak into cute couple pictures to make it look like he's cheating. If Logan breaks up with him, he'll see that I'm a hot single he can date.
"Is- is this real?" He asks.
"Yeah, it was posted on his second Tumblr. He was bragging about how he'll never get caught because of it and that you're an annoying robot who never feels anything. His words, not mine. I think you're amazing," I say.
"I- I need to be alone for a minute. Thank you for telling me," He says, walking away.
It's working. I discreetly follow him out because I want to see this go down.
"Virgil, is it true? Are you cheating on me?" Logan asks.
"I could ask the same to you! What do you think these are?" Virgil shouts, then I hear him pull out his phone.
I force back a giggle. It's working!
"Those are fake. I would never do that to you! Especially not after your ex cheated on you," Logan says.
"Prove it!"
"How about you? How would you explain this?"
I assume Logan pulls out his phone. I was using Mark's phone to send the pictures, so Logan doesn't get suspicious. He and Mark have never interacted.
"Logan, Virgil, what's going on? We heard shouting," Patton says.
I hear two sets of footsteps enter the hallway.
"He's cheating on me!" They say at the same time.
"Falsehood. I would never do that!" Logan says.
"Well, that doesn't change the fact there's evidence,"
"So are you just going to ignore the evidence that says you're cheating on me?!" Logan counters.
"Let me see that," Roman says.
"Kiddos, calm down," Patton says.
I hear Roman scoff.
"Both of you are dimwits. How can you not see the watermark in the corner? Virgil, I thought you took photoshop classes, how could you not realize this?" Roman says.
Dammit. I am going to kill Mark for this.
"Oh! So it's always my fault, isn't it?" Virgil says.
I hear him storm off in my direction. I slip back into the gym where the party is and see him go past. He's crying. Good.
*Virgil POV*
I rush to the bathroom, my mind a racing mess. I don't know what to think, other than this is happening again.
I lock myself in a stall and curl up into a ball to sob.
"Virgil? Virgil are you in here?" Patton asks.
I don't answer, I keep silently crying.
"Kiddo? Please come out," Patton says.
He opens the door. I guess I forgot to lock it.
"Kiddo, it's gonna be ok. Ju-"
"No, it's not!" I say, the volume of my voice surprising me.
I choke back another sob. My mind is still racing and I can hardly breathe.
"Oh crap," Patton whispers under his breath, "Stay right here,"
He rushes out. A few minutes later he comes back with Logan. I shrink away from the two of them. I can't handle any of this right now.
"Virgil, can you name five things you can see?" Logan asks.
I'm still shaking, tears pouring down my face. I shake my head. I don't think I can talk clearly right now.
"Ok, just try to breathe. It will be alright. I love you, Virgil. Nothing can change that," He says.
I take a deep breath. I let it out. I wrap my arms around Logan and don't let go. He picks me up.
"I think we're going to go home," Logan says.
I would be fine with that.
Patton nods.
"Take my car, I'll get a ride from Roman," He says.
Everything is still blurry from tears, which I shakily wipe away.
"Virgil, love, it's going to be ok. Those pictures were fake, on both ends. Someone doesn't want us together, that's all," Logan says.
Why do I feel like I know exactly who this is? I need to hit her with a bus this time.
Gasp, I'm posting on time for once. I told you angst was coming, and now I can promise you more karma. So I hope you enjoyed reading, and feel free to leave any thoughts or feedback in the comments. Have a wonderful day/night you magnificent peep!
