Chapter 22: The Winter Dance
*Logan POV*
My sister got home from university Sunday night. She was ecstatic when she heard the dance was tomorrow. I groan, knowing this means I am in for a long makeover. She never passes up an opportunity to help me with my looks, as she says it is her responsibility as my older sister.
I have a nervous, jittery feeling inside me when I think about tonight. A few hours before the dance, my sister calls me upstairs, saying its time to get me ready.
"Ready? Christie, it's only 4 o'clock! It should not take three hours to get ready." I protest.
"It will for you!" She calls from upstairs, "Now get up here!"
I scowl, knowing it will most likely take over three hours. It would definitely take over four if she knew about Virgil. I walk upstairs and see her with a dozen makeup supplies in the bathroom.
"No. We are not using those." I say.
"Logie, when will you learn this is the one thing you can't fight me over?" She asks.
"Falsehood. I can and I will." I say.
"Fine. We won't do too much makeup." She says.
I grin triumphantly. That smile fades, however, when she pulls out several hair products. I will never understand why she needs so many.
---
3 hours of getting ready and we're finally done. I look at the time. I only have 15 minutes to get to the dance. CherryWood is 10 minutes away. I grab my wallet and keys, thank Christie, and go on my way.
I get to the dance fairly quickly and help set up a few final things.
"Hello, Joan. I see you are back from vacation. Where did you go?" I ask, seeing my old sound booth partner.
"Hey Logan! I went down to Florida. I had almost forgotten how cold it is up here." they say.
"Yes, I do believe there is a storm predicted for tonight," I say.
Joan groans a bit at that, and I don't blame them. We already have 4 inches of snow on the ground. We just finished setting the final few things up when I see Patton come in. I walk over and greet him.
"Salutations, Patton," I say.
"Hi Lo!" He says, giving me a hug.
"Where is Roman?" I ask.
"He'll be here in a minute. Are you excited?" He asks.
"I suppose I am. Dances are not usually something I enjoy, but the food is good." I say.
Dances are pretty illogical if you ask me.
"Not about the dance, about Virgil!" Patton says.
My heart jumps a bit. My face going red was all the answer Patton needed.
I'm sipping on some fruit punch Patton convinced me to try when he walks in. The doors open and in the stepping in from the lights outside is Virgil. I've heard the phrase 'breathtaking' but I never thought it could be literal. He looks simply stunning. I have never been so sure of my sexuality until now. He walks over to me.
"Virgil, you look..." I trail off, "Splendid."
"Thanks. You do too." He says.
I blush a bit and turn a bit to hide it.
"So," He starts to say, "Do you kno-"
He is cut off when Amy walks by us.
"Hi Lo-Lo!" She says.
She glances between me and Virgil. I groan internally. I had almost forgotten she would be here.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?" She asks.
I don't get a chance to respond when she grabs my arm and drags me away from Virgil.
*Virgil POV*
Amy drags Logan away, and he shoots me an apologetic glance. It's no big deal, other than the fact I hate Amy. I think Logan hates her too, he just tolerates her better than I do. I'm still at the table where Logan left me when someone taps me on the shoulder. I turn around.
"Oh, hey Re," I say.
"What are you doing over here? Lets party!" Remus says enthusiastically.
I instantly know he's gotten into a lot of sugar. Remus is like a toddler sometimes. I see he's wearing his 'Duke Suit' from Halloween. I guess it could pass as formal. We go out onto the dance floor.
"So, anyone we know from Rockview coming tonight?" I ask.
Usually, whichever school is hosting has more students from that school going.
"Yeah, the majority of our class." He says.
"Is he coming?" I ask, referencing Janus.
"I don't know. I'll keep him away from you if that's what you'd like." He offers.
"Yeah. I want to enjoy all the time I can get away from him." I say.
"Fair enough. Have you seen the cupcakes they have here?" Remus asks, dragging me over to the snack table.
The majority of the cupcakes are gone and I have a feeling it was Remus who rearranged them to read,
'Suck it CheryWood'
"You spelled CherryWood wrong," I point out.
"There wasn't enough left to do it right." He tells me.
So it was him. Shocker. I grab a cookie instead of a cupcake. When I bite into it I remember its the same one Logan got me yesterday at the show. Snickerdoodle. Aside from the ridiculous name, it's my favorite kind.
Remus disappears somewhere into the crowd and I don't chase after him, letting someone else have the pleasure of meeting him on a sugar high. I walk back to the table I was at before and sit down. A few minutes later, Logan comes back, looking frustrated and upset.
*Roman POV*
Right before we enter the dance, I ask Virgil to stay back for a second.
"Virgil, I just wanted to say," I start, "That I'm sorry for being so rude to you before."
Virgil looks like I just told him I was straight and would be trying out for the football team.
"Well, I was not expecting that. But trust me, you could've done worse." He says.
"So are we good now?" I ask.
"Sure. Can we go in now?" He asks.
"Yeah, but we need to make it dramatic," I say.
I then explain how we can make it the most similar to a dramatic movie scene.
"This is way to over the top," Virgil argues.
"Do you want to impress Logan or not?" I counter.
"Fine," He says.
---
I find Patton a little while later, and we grab some food and go out into a hallway, where it's quieter.
"You look really nice tonight, Roman," Patton says.
One of the shows the school made starred a prince. I played the prince and got to keep the costume. It's a white suit with a red sash, and I wear it at most formal events.
"You always look nice," I reply.
He blushes. We both sit down on the floor, enjoying each other's company when someone comes around the corner. Its Remus. And the tattoo boy, I think he told me his name was Dee. They're holding hands. I never knew my brother was gay. Well, that makes one less awkward catching up talk.
"Hello, Remus," I say, standing up.
"Roman." He says, nodding his head, "Where are the bathrooms?"
"Down the hall and to the right," I tell him.
The two of them walk off. It's then that I realize Remus's outfit was very similar to mine, just black instead of white, glittery, with ruffles, and a green sash instead of red.
"Should we get back to the party?" Patton asks.
"Yeah, one sec," I say, feeling my phone buzz in my pocket.
I grab it and see its a notification from some social media. I open it and my eyes widen at what I see. Patton looks over my shoulder and sees it too. Several pictures of Virgil with Dee and Remus, all with rude captions, and some slander about Virgil.
"Should we tell him?" Patton asks.
"I- maybe we shouldn't. At least not right now." I say.
I don't want to ruin Virgil and Logan's night, but I have a feeling I know who did this.
I promised drama and its coming. I have very little mercy left. Or just a lot of angst ready, you decide. Well, I hope you enjoyed reading, and feel free to leave any thoughts theories or feedback in the comments. Have an enjoyable day you magnificent peep!
