A Big Help
Later that night:
"You look great tonight" Cake say softly in her ear as the crowd dies down.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Cake." She winks
Then, Elizabeth starts to get fussy. She had a long day. All the noise and commotion was making her cry. Babs decided to go find Gavin. She had backed him a suit case for the week while he is away for games. She wanted to say her goodbyes before he headed off and got plastered with his friends.
Gavin was in a circle with a bunch of other players. He was chatting away like he always does. Babs comes up behind him and taps his shoulder.
"Gavin, honey, we have to go. Lizzie is tired." Babs whispers to him
"Oh, alright. Well I'll see you when I'm home." He says quickly
Babs stood there waiting for a kiss goodbye or even a hug, but he turned his back to his daughter and wife and went on with his conversation.
Cake witnessed it all. He emphasized with Babs. Wanting the one you love to love you back the same way is so tiring and disappointing.
He comforted Babs as he put his hand on her shoulder and guided her out of the crowd.

After a long game day Lizzie was all tucked into bed. Gavin was probably out at bars or strip clubs with his team mates all while Cake and Babs enjoyed some Chinese food and wine.
It felt so nice to just have a normal conversation and dinner. It was so simple with Cake. Almost effortless. It came natural to her to just be herself around him.
"This right here brings me back to college... Saturday nights... you and me waiting at your apartment for Gavin to get back for dinner." Cake laughs
"But he always stood us up..." Babs sighs
"We had each other, right? You and I always had fun."
"Ahh, remember that one night when Gavin and I got into such a big fight... you took me to the carnival to cheer me up. That's one of my favorite memories." She says
"I won you that big stuffed animal!" Cake exclaims
"It's still at my moms house..." she says softly
Cake chuckles as he reaches for the bottle of wine. He pours the wine into their glasses then sits back on the couch.
"I got a job." Cake smiles happily
"Oh Cake! Thanks wonderful! What happened to the job you already have?" Babs asks
"I needed to get out of town. There is nothing there for me anymore. New York is my place. I got a teaching job at the university! They are offering me double." He exclaims
"That's wonderful! I'm so proud of you." Babs sits up and gives cake a hug.
They hold each other for a while until Babs finally breaks away.
She clears her throat and fixes her blouse. "Louisiana is going to miss your kind soul."
"But think, you have a place to visit now!" He smiles
Cake was accomplishing all of his life goals. He was making something of himself. Babs always knew he would. He worked hard and was beyond passionate with everything he did in life.
Babs couldn't help but feel sorry for herself. Everyone around her was living out the life they had planned for themselves. All she felt was stuck. She didn't express her emotions to Cake, rather she hid her sadness and celebrated Cake.

Wednesday:
After the game on Sunday, the days have been moving pretty slow. Cake left to go back home on Saturday and Gavin came home next Monday.
Lizzie has been a handful the last few nights. She has been fighting a cold and Bab's has stayed by her side since the moment she started feeling sick.
Cake helped out as much as he could. He also did some work while he was there too.
Him and Babs were having a great time together even though the baby was making that very hard. Everything felt normal and Babs didn't have a bad conscious about any of it. Her and cake were just being friendly with each other and making the most of their time together.
It was lunch time and Babs was just finishing up the grilled cheese. Cake sat at the table with Lizzie and tried to get her to eat some of her food.
"What's the trick, mom? How do you get this little girl to eat!" Cake says as he holds the spoon to Lizzie's mouth.
"Oh Cake, you don't have to feed her! She can be a pain sometimes. Just relax and enjoy!" She says handing him his dish
"I like helping." He says
Babs sits across from him and moves Lizzie's high chair to face her.
Then, after her first attempt, she was able to get lizzie to eat.
"She just likes noises and silly faces." Babs winks
"That was it?" Cake says
Babs giggles then nods her head. "She just wanted to give her Uncle Donnie a hard time."
Cake reaches for Lizzie and taps her nose. She had been feeling so run down from her cold, but all morning cake had been finding small ways to make her laugh. So far, she loved her nose being tapped and peak-a-boo.
Lizzie laughs at Cake as Babs continues to feed her.
"You're so good with her." She smiles
"Unless I have to feed her. She's such a sweet heart! And a beauty like her mama!"

Later that night;
Lizzie had been fighting sleeping for the last four hours. Babs finally decided to just hold her for the rest of the night until she went to bed.
Her and cake played a game of cards while Lizzie cuddled up with her mom.
"Got you again!" He says
"Dang it! I was so close." She says as Cake reshuffles the cards
"Want to play another round?" He asks
"Actually, how about a movie?" She asks
"Sounds good!"
Cake picks out a movie and gets ready for a movie night.
He let Babs stay where she was so that the baby didn't get fussy. Cake set up a bunch of blankets, got some pillows, wine, and snacks.
"This is perfect." Babs says as he sits down to start the movie
"You think? I've had a lot of practice. I do this for myself all the time." He laughs
Babs laughs with him then looks down at Lizzie.
"Look at the way she's looking at you. I think she wants some of that wine." Babs giggles
"I know her mom does." He says hanging Jessica a class
"Mhm, I do!"

After thirty minutes of watching the movie both Babs and Lizzie fell asleep. When Cake noticed he turned off the tv and made sure that tue two were comfortable.
He just sat there and watched them sleep. He was so in love with Babs. Spending this last week with her has made him realize that the love he has for her will never die. She meant so much to him and now so did Lizzie. Seeing Babs as a mother made his heart melt. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Babs. All he wanted to do was truly tell her how he felt, but he was too scared for the outcome.
