THIRTY ONE

TOGETHER

smut warning.

After the interviews, where all the Victor's held hands and lifted their arms in community, they separated off and returned to their own floors. Talia had a brief word with Gwen, telling her she hoped to see her in friendly terms within the arena, before returning to her own team.

Now they were rid of their outfits and makeup, sat at a dinner table with food they weren't sure they could stomach, having professed their love for each other. Talia wasn't sure why she'd blurted all she had, especially when no mention of the scores even came up like she thought it might have. All the stuff about Finnick and her family only made her weak. She forced down some of the roast chicken that Rossan scraped onto a plate for her and further forced some veg down too. She felt awful.

"I think I might have a shower and then head to bed," Talia remarks, "After all, this'll be my last decent sleep...Maybe ever,"

"Talia-"

"I know, I know, positive energy at the dining table, thank you, Thelan," Talia rolls her eyes, getting up and heading for her room.

She enters and turns on the shower, making sure its nice and warm for when she gets in. She undresses and steps under the warm water. She spends ages just standing under the jet, letting it relax her tensed shoulders and back. She spends 40 minutes in the shower washing herself and her hair, and then uses the drier settings rather than wasting a towel. Talia steps out and redresses before climbing into bed and grabbing her setting scanner, she flicks until she finds the one that reminded her of her District. She settled into bed and stared at it, wondering what her family were doing right this second. Mickey and Penny were probably getting Sam off to sleep, Freddy was probably pretending to sleep but was actually reading and her parents, she hoped they were snuggled up together on the sofa or enjoying a meal in the dining room.

A knock at the door disturbed her peace, she sits up and turns to look at the door, "Its open,"

The door clicks open and Finnick Odair steps inside, the light of the screen catching his bronzed hair and his beautiful sea green eyes.

"Finnick," She says, "I wasn't expecting you,"

"I had to come, who was I to not see you the night before we might die," He says and Talia shakes her head before patting the bed space beside her. He walks over and climbs under the covers with her, she turns to look at him, the blue sea of the screen painted Finnick's face the same colour.

"I love you," She says softly, barely audible even in the silent room.

"I love you too," He says, pushing away a strand of Talia's hair, "I can't lose you,"

"You might have to," She breathes, her nose pressing lightly into his, their legs entangling under the covers.

"Can we not talk like this? Just for now? Just for our last night?" He asks and she nods, her small hand covering his as it rested on her cheek.

"Okay," Talia replies. He brings his lips to hers in a gentle kiss, she expected a roughness to it that never came, but it was perfect all the same.

His hands move along her skin, pushing her clothes off her shoulder. She giggles when his kiss meets her neck, still not used to the strange sensations. He chuckles as she pulls at his shirt. Finnick moves back and removes it for her, before meeting her lips with his again. A moan leaves her lips when he moves his kiss downwards, to her chest, his mouth dancing along her goosebumped skin. He pulls off her bottoms and lowers his kiss. Her moan is quiet, muffled by the pillows but its enough to make him move a little faster, his tongue against her. Waves rush through her body, and before she knows it, the tide has come in, her moan is louder than before as her back arches, her fingers squeeze the bedsheets and Finnick smirks when he reappears from underneath the duvet. She pulls him close and kisses him softly as he pulls off his trousers and moves closer to her. She swings her leg over him to straddle him and slowly moves against him. She moans softly into his shoulder as his hands grip her waist, helping her move with a rhythm that suited them both. Talia lifts herself slightly, shifting against the shape of his hips and deepening it, she mumbles against his ear and it only makes him feel more pleasure. He quickens it, his grip on her hips tightening as he reaches his limit, she moans into his neck as he meets his high and he brings her lips to his in a swift kiss. She collapses onto the bed beside him and rests her head against his shoulder, looking up at the ceiling with tired eyes.

"When did you fall in love with me?" Talia asks into the quiet, both of them wrapped up in each other.

"The night you won your games, and you were lying in that bed in the training centre hospital wing, a breathing mask on your face, your hand in a cast and your shoulder bandaged," He says, finger making shapes on her back as he spoke softly, "And you mumbled something about me under your breath, about how you wanted to see me, you were coming out of anaesthetic from your operation, and I took your other hand and said 'I'm here, Talia, I'm always going to be here' and you smiled at me before falling right back asleep, and then you woke up a week later and didn't remember a thing- what about you? When did you fall in love with me?"

"The final night of the Victory Tour,"

"Snow's party?"

Talia laughs, "No, the Mayor's party, in 4. When you asked me to dance and I said no, and you made me do it anyway. And then you walked me home under the stars and told me how you knew I would win the games from the beginning, because I had so much courage and so much loyalty to my family and my district that I would stop at nothing to get back to them, even if that meant standing up to the man who ruled over the games-"

Talia shifted, looking into Finnick's eyes.

"-and when you said goodnight to me on my doorstep, I thought, 'this is it, this is where he kisses me' but you didn't. I don't know why you didn't, I don't know why I didn't, but we stood there like two idiots in the cold for what felt like way longer than it actually was and I said 'right, I have to sleep, goodnight Finnick' and you said, 'Goodnight, Talia, and thank you, for all that you are,' and I went into my house and regretted not kissing you,"

"Wow," Finnick says, "I remember thinking the exact same thing,"

The two of them laugh, before Talia lets out a yawn.

"We should sleep," Finnick says and Talia lets out a breath.

"But sleeping means tomorrow comes faster," Talia says and Finnick nods, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

"I know, but we can't stop the inevitable, Talia, tomorrow is coming, whether we like it or not," Finnick says, and he gets comfortable as Talia turns over, he pulls her body close to his.

"Do you remember when we first kissed?" Talia asks and Finnick nods.

"On the driftwood by the sea," He says.

"Do you remember what we said?"

"I see you,"

She smiles softly as she looks at the screen, it was almost an exact picture of where they kissed that day. She blinks away the tears in her eyes as she says, "I see you too, Finnick Odair,"
