Chapter 3

Abi's eyes snapped to the noise. Her ultrahearing sensed even the footsteps of ants. So she heard him. She heard the leaves move and threw her gaurd up.
She wasn't as afraid however. Demons were almost as powerful as angels. She expected a troll or a witch. Maybe even a fairy.
But she saw him. She saw a boy with the bluest of blue eyes and the softest dark hair that gently grazed over his brow. She witnessed the curiosity in his eyes as he stared at her like she was the most amazing creature he'd ever seen.
She wasn't afraid either. No. She oddly felt like he wouldn't hurt her. Then she saw his wings. The largest she'd ever seen. They had the golden colour.
Was he human? No, he had wings. Was he an angel? No, angels had wings as white as snow, his were like the colour gold. Abi started to get anxious.
She didn't know what he was, and that already in itself was dangerous. So she did what she was taught to do by her father. She was only ten, but she's been harnessing her powers and abilities.
She focused her energy. Her eyes glowed red and so her vision turned red. The surroundings became only shades of red. The boy froze like stone, he was just there in place, nothing could move not even his eyes. She did it. She had now full control of his muscular parts.
He was afraid, he was confused. His eyes, arms, legs, head, everything, was stuck in place and he didn't know why. He couldn't show it, more like he couldn't.
Abi had the advantage, the boy was helpless. Now she just has to twist his head like a tap and there, he'd be long gone. Her father always taught her to destroy her enemies on sight.
But for some odd reason, she couldn't. She looked at him, she felt the blood rushing through him like a river, she could hear the erratic beating of his heart. He was alive, he was breathing, he was a child.
No. She didn't have the guts to kill a child. The demons were heartless, cruel and bloodthirsty, but not her. She's always been this way and she never understood why she was born so weak.
She looked up at him and wondered once more, "What are you? You can't be a demon, I know every demon." She frowned.
That was the truth. Demons were somehow recognizable to each other.
A demon could instantly know the name and social status of another demon from the first glance. But not Uriel, and Abi wondered why.
Uriel was silent, his panicked eyes couldn't look at her. He couldn't speak, his mouth wouldn't move. Like matter over mind.
Abi forgot this factor, she forgot the power of her abilities. She hadn't used it much in any case. So she thought he was blatantly disregarding her. This creature. Did he not know who she was? How dare he not answer her? She was considering sparing his life. And he decided not to answer her?
"Tell me, you filthy critter!" She yelled. But that did no help. Still silence. She became enraged. To hell with this! Her second ability kicked in. She manipulated the cells of his body, the cartilage that made up his trachea.
She squeezed her small palms and his trachea began to decrease in diameter. Uriel felt the tremendous pain. She watched him. His eyes widened, his hand and feet tensed, longing to touch his throat. Blood rushed to his pale face and turned it pink.
He tried. He had to do something, anything or he would be gone."P-Please. . .It hurts." Uriel's voice was no more than a whisper, a pained mumble..
It struck her black heart like an arrow. She somehow felt his pain. She began to tear up. Her father called her a monster. Her mother called her a monster. Her brothers and sisters called her a monster. Her best friend called her a monster. She didn't want to be. She never wanted to be born a demon. She had hope for herself because unlike other demons, she couldn't kill.
So she released him. Uriel gasped and coughed as the air flowed into him finally. He took heavy breaths as he stared at her, terrified.
Why did she do that? Uriel thought. Why show mercy? Demons were merciless and vile.
"Weak bitch."
A second childlike voice rang out. Both their eyes snapped to the hallow tree. Uriel gasped and he's terror heightened.
On a thick branch, sat a child just like them, in all black with a hoodie shadowing his features, like the grim reaper. His eyes was startling, the colour of wine but brighter than the sun. His wings were ragged, like Abi's. They were dark and maroon-redish at the edges of the feathers.
The wings of a male demon.
Uriel's heart sank once more. Aw, come on! He whined internally. Abi rolled her eyes. It was her best friend, Asmodeus. He was just ten thousand years older than her, which only meant a year in human years.
"Don't call me that, Deus." Abi pout angrily. She had temper issues. The boy flew down towards her, a smirk on his lips as he nuzzled his nose against her's
"Or what?" He teased, his voice softer than before. Abi blushed but her skin didn't show it. Her eyes moved around frantically as she tried to respond without sounding so smitten
"I-I-I'll kill you." She stuttered, ignoring the butterflies. Complete fail at the smitten tone. Asmodeus giggled, his feet finally landed on the crispy grass.
"You? Kill me?" Asmodeus said in wonder, teasing her further. "How can you kill your best friend when you can't even kill this. . .thing?" He motioned Uriel and cocked a brow. He was about to ask Uriel what he was when Abi spoke first.
"How do you know you're my best friend?" Abi rolled her bloody eyes in annoyance. And again, being the flirt that he is, Asmodeus smirked, "Cause you love me, boobalicious."
Abi cringed at the nickname and Asmodeus also looked confused at his own remark. "Boobalicious?" Abi repeated in disgust
"Yeeaaah, I shouldn't have called you that. You're like a sheet of paper." Asmodeus snickered as he teased. Abi felt her cheeks get hot.
"Ugh! I'm only ten you idiot!" She squealed. Uriel noticed their distraction and used the opportunity. He didn't want to die. Not today satan. Not today!
He got up from his bruised knees and swirled around. About to start running. But he froze again. The same force made him stay in place. He groaned. Asmodeus had his palm facing Uriel. It was him that inflicted the ability this time.
"Where do you think you're going, Stuart Little?" Asmodeus tilt his head, his hair grazing his eyes and a smirk played his lips. He always gave nicknames to everthing and this time he insulted how fragile and little Uriel was.
Abi bit her lips as she became anxious, "Hey, come on Deus, leave him alone." she said, her voice soft. Asmodeus looked at her, shaking his head in disappointment, "You're a demon and you can't even kill this thing."
Abi looked down as she started feeling ashamed. She didn't know what to feel. Glad that she didn't act like a monster or disgusted because she didn't act like a monster. Asmodeus stalked towards Uriel. He circled him and looked him in his panicked eyes.
"You're the princess of demons Abi, you need to start acting like it." His statement was meant for Abi but his eyes were glaring at Uriel.
Princess of demons!? Uriel's eyes widened. Things just got real.
"Deus. Please, he's not hurting anyone." Abi begged him, biting her plump lips in anxiousness. Asmodeus ignored her. He leaned towards Uriel. The look on his face was terrifying. He had a crooked smirk, his sharp canines in for display and his eyes held longing.
He just wanted to hurt Uriel for no apparent reason. He loved it, the pain and struggle in one's eyes made Asmodues feel powerful. He loved it.
"You'll never. . .get near. . .my princess. . .again." Asmodeus spit out every word, his eyes held some kind of rage.
Then Uriel felt it. Unbelievable pain. Asomdeus's hand was on his chest. Then it began to burn. It burned like molten metal right onto his chest. Uriel screamed in agony. Abi flinched and her eyes began to water. Asmodeus's grin widened and his eyes looked hungry.
Michael and Gabriel had begun the search for Uriel. Then they heard scream. Michael's heart jumped in terror.
"Damn!" Gabriel cursed. And in an instant, the two spread their wings and flew faster than light towards the pained screams. They saw the two demons and Uriel's torture.
"Get away from him you monsters!" Michael yelled, enraged and a blue ball of flames envoloped his hand. In a second he flung the deadly ball at the gap between Abi and the two.
The ball was like an explosion, so they all flew away. Abi flew back, her back hit the tree trunk and broke a bone in her wing. She yelled in pain and Asmodeus snapped his attention on her.
He became terrified when he saw the two powerful angels. He couldn't fight them. He wasn't as strong as them, and there was two of them. Asmodeus realized the situation. He growled angrily at the fact that he couldn't fight. But he had priorities and Abi was one of them.
He couldn't let her get hurt. So he quickly flew towards her. He felt the guilt when he saw her tears. He carried her bridal style, causing her broken wing to move. She yelped into his chest, grasping it tightly.
"I'm sorry." He whispered to her. He looked back at the two angels. Michael was by Uriel's side while Gabriel looked like he was about to attack them.
"You'll pay for this." Asmodeus grit out. Then he disappeared, only a murder of crows left behind. He used his ability.
Michael's alarmed eyes stared at Uriel. There was an angry red mark on his chest. A mark left behind by a burn. Uriel was in pain, tears streamed his eyes.
Michael inherited his mother's healing abilities. They weren't as effective as hers but they were enough to soothe. He gently lay his hand on the hot mark and began his healing.
Uriel's cries died down, his eyes became heavy as the pain began to reduce. The effect was sleep.
"It's over brother. . ." Michael said, his voice grieved. "I'm sorry." He apologised, his guilt tremendous. He should've never brought him here.
He let Uriel get hurt. He didn't protect him.
