Chapter 82
Song: Been Through - Brandyn Burnett's
I find myself walking under a clear blue sky in an endless field of tall plain grass ahead. Magnificent green mountains stand behind me as I turn around, reminding me of a similar scene.
As I stroll along leaving the mountain range, I hold out my right hand, feeling the soft tips of the light green grass with my palm.
I hear a noise in the distance that caught my attention, and my eyes instantly skip to the sound, trying to locate where it came from.
Soon my pace picks up, and the wind blows through my hair as I run toward the source of the sound which was coming up ahead. I wasn't sure who or what I was chasing after, only that I needed to find out.
Giggles echo louder through the air the closer I got, giggles of a child.
"Daddy, daddy, help me!" I hear a little girl say in the distance. "Daddy, she's coming. Mommy's coming."
"I see, honey. Come here before mommy gets you," a familiar voice say.
As I cross the top of the hill, I see a beautiful, golden willow tree below with two figures, one of a man and a little child. The man is holding the little girl in his hands.
A smile grows on my face when I realize who they were.
They both wave to me with smiles, and I wave back as I walk down to them.
A feeling of bliss and peace touch me.
There is nothing else I wanted
more than this moment.
Nothing else could replace them.
I felt a kiss on my forehead . Instantly the beautiful dream disappeared from my vision. "Wake up, beautiful."
"I was having such a good dream," I said drowsily, feeling a little melancholy from leaving the dream.
"Really? What were you dreaming about and was I in it?"
I giggled. "Of course, you were. I was dreaming about a field of tall grass. It was so beautiful and peaceful."
"It probably means you miss the countryside."
"Maybe." I yawned in bed with my eyes closed. "What time is it?"
He laughed. "Eight o' clock."
Henry was always the morning person. I never understood where morning people get their energy to wake up.
"It's so early." I pulled the duvet over my head. "I'm going back to sleep."
"Oh, no, you are not," he said playfully.
He climbed over me and pulled the duvet from my head. He leaned down and smothered me with kisses all over my face, trying to persuade me to get out of bed.
I laughed out loud, smiling to myself.
"Fine, if you wake up, I have some exciting news to tell you."
"Okay, okay." I chuckled. "I'm up now."
I sat upright on the bed and leaned back against the headboard as he sat down on the edge facing.
"Good."
"So what's the exciting news you wanted to tell me?" I asked.
"We're going to Vienna on Wednesday."
My face lit up with a beam. "This Wednesday? That's so quick."
"I know. Are you excited?"
I nodded. "I haven't even packed yet or see what I wanted to do there."
"You still have a couple days, honey. Don't worry about packing. Whatever you forget to bring, we'll just get it in Vienna." He placed a hand behind my head. "Alright?"
I grinned. "Alright."
He smiled before placing a light kiss on the tip of my nose. "I made you breakfast, your favorite, scrambled eggs and toast."
"You know me so well."
"I do I know. Okay, go shower and come down then. I'm going to set up the table. Alright?"
"Okay."
Henry stood up to leave, but I pulled him down onto the bed. "One more thing."
I tugged on his shirt, pulled him up close to me, and kissed him on the lips before climbing off the bed and running to the bathroom.
After breakfast, we went to pick up my dress at the shop. We sat by the couches in the back of the store, waiting for Eleanor to bring out my dress.
"Mrs. Cavill, it's ready," Eleanor said as she held the hanger holding my red dress.
I followed her into the fitting room across from the seating area.
She placed the hanger onto the hook. "I hope you like it, but if you need any adjustments, we'll take care of it right after."
"Thank you, Eleanor."
I closed the drapes and slipped the dress over my head, pulling it down snugly. I looked at myself in the mirror. It fit perfectly, outlining the small curves of my body, and showcased the right amount of skin from my shoulders.
I turned to the drapes and was about to pull them open when I stopped. I didn't want Henry to see me in the dress just yet, so I changed back into my regular outfit.
"How did it go, Ally?" Henry asked when I stepped out. He sat in the same chair with the look on his face that told me he was expecting me to wear the dress when I walked out of the fitting room.
"It's good," I plainly spoke, keeping him in the dark.
He stood up and walked over to me. "Then why didn't you come out so I could see how it looks on you?"
He wrapped one arm around my waist, pulling me toward him.
"Where would the excitement be in that, right, Mr. Cavill?" I smiled cunningly. "You'll see it later anyways."
"How did everything go, Mrs. Cavill?" Eleanor asked as she walked back to check on me.
"Great, I love it. It was almost exactly how I pictured it to be."
"I'm glad to hear. Did you need any alterations at all?"
"No, no. The dress fits perfectly."
After paying for the dress, Henry and I proceeded over to the University of Chicago to tour the campus. An admission advisor took us around the school grounds and buildings, offering stories along the way. He was certainly informative about the classes and programs available.
I didn't know what kind of questions to ask, but Henry did most of that for me. I knew he wanted to give me the best education he could, being the good husband he was.
The advisor said I could register for the fall semester or take some courses they were offering for the summer. As there was no rush, I told him I would wait until fall to start. I wanted to spend more time with Nana and Henry before going back to school full time.
When the tour ended after two hours, Henry and I went back home to get ready for the Sinclair's banquet later tonight.
As we parked on the driveway in front of the house, a white Lexus pulled into the driveway after us.
"Who is that?" Henry asked.
"My stylist, dear."
"You have a stylist now?" Henry said as if he didn't believe me.
"I always did."
"Who might I ask?"
"A friend. She's here to help me get ready for tonight."
"You look beautiful with or without makeup, Ally."
"That's means a lot, honey." I smiled at my husband before stepping out of the car and walked over to Cynthia as she stepped out. Henry followed suit.
"Good afternoon, Cynthia."
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Cavill. Mr. Cavill," she responded, carrying her large bag.
Henry nodded.
"Come inside, Cynthia. You weren't waiting long, did you?" I asked as we walked inside the house.
"Oh no, not too long. I just got here five minutes before you two."
"Good. Let's head to upstairs." I turned to Henry. "Be ready in an hour, dear."
"I'll be waiting."
Cynthia and I used my old bedroom to get ready in order to give Henry space to get dressed in our bedroom.
After showering, I came back out in a robe and sat on the ottoman in front of my old dresser. Cynthia blow dried my hair and then she curled it. She pinned back the curled hair strands into an elegant bun.
For make up, I told her I wanted a natural look, nothing extravagant, and she immediately understood. She applied primer, foundation and concealer on my face, and baked it with a louse powder before carefully coloring in my eye brows with a brown gel. For my eyeshadow, she used a light peach brown color that accented the brown in my eyes.
"All done now." Cynthia took a step back to look at me after brushing in some highlighter on my face. "I know I probably told you countless times before, but you're just so gorgeous, Mrs. Cavill. Mr. Cavill is a lucky man."
I smiled. "Awww, thank you, Cynthia. It's mostly the makeup."
"Even without make up, you're still beautiful. You're a woman to envy."
"Do you think others see me in that light?"
"Of course, why wouldn't they." She smiled. "You know, like the other woman who were after Mr. Cavill before you two were married."
"I see. I guessed I am lucky."
She stepped back and took a full look at her masterpiece. "All right, you're all set now. You're going to turn eyes at this event to tonight."
"You flattered me too much, Cynthia."
"But it's true. Even ask Mr. Cavill. Anyways, I hope you too have a wonderful time tonight."
"Thank you."
I handed Cynthia her tip before she left and then went into the closet room. The red dress hung on the door flawlessly, waiting to be worn. Beside my wedding dress, I never had any other clothing custom-made in my life before.
After putting on the dress, I stared at myself in the mirror. Recalling Cynthia's words in my head, I raised my hand, grazing my cheek with my fingers gently like a narcissist would.
I'd never thought I'd become a woman that other women would envy. It used to be the other way around when I looked at other women, but I guessed ... what Cynthia said was true now. The tables had turned.
I walked out of the closet and sat down in front of the dresser, trying to find some jewelry to match with the outfit.
"Ally?" Henry knocked on the opened bedroom door, already all suited up and looking handsome as usual.
I stood up as he crossed the room toward me.
With each step, his expression changed more into amazement. "You look ... amazing as always."
I would get bored of those words. "Thank you."
He walked over with an elegant black gift bag in his hand. "I have something for you."
"Henry, I have too many things already. It's is more than enough."
"I know, but just this one time. Please." He pleaded with a smile that made it hard to go against his wish.
"Okay."
"Excellent. Turn to the mirror and close your eyes."
I did as he requested.
Soon I felt his hands placing something pearly on my neck and then securing it from behind. I opened my eyes and looked in the mirror to see a stunning and simple white pearl necklace. "It's beautiful."
"Just like you. I thought they would go well with your dress."
"They really do. You have a great taste, Mr. Cavill."
"And that's not it."
"There's more?"
"Beside the necklace, I had these personally made for you." He took out a blue navy jewelry box from the gift bag and opened it. Inside were two simple pearl earrings. "Leg me put them on for you."
He carefully unhook each earring from the box and placed them into my ears with ease. When he was finished, I peered at the final masterpiece in the mirror, the necklace paired with the earrings. The set of jewelry matched perfectly with the dark red dress.
I raised my hand to feel the smooth pearls on the necklace as Henry wrapped his arms from behind, placing his chin on my right shoulder.
In the mirror, I could see the smile forming on his face. "They're fresh water pearls, one of the best in the world."
"You didn't have to."
"But I wanted to. You deserve only the best, and I won't give you anything worth less."
"Thank you. I love them very much already. I'll take very good care of them. I promise."
"I know you well."
He placed a soft kiss on the side of my neck, sending sparks throughout my body.
