CIII. Be My Best Turtle?
Donatello leans over his lab table, hurriedly writing out a list of guests that they want to invite to each wedding.
"Okay...Casey and April, obviously, the Mighty Mutanimals, Mr Murikami, is Mr Kurtzman still in the city? Probably..." he murmurs under his breath, hoping he isn't forgetting anyone.
"Yo, D! We need some help!" Michelangelo hollers as he rushes into the lab.
"I'm a bit busy, Mikey," the intelligent turtle retorts, counting out the amount of people on his list.
"But Donnie," the younger turtle whines, dragging out his name. "I can't decide who's gonna be my best turtle! Leo and Raph are having the same problem, dude!"
Donnie stops his scribing, pursing his lips. He nods and turns to his brother, nodding curtly. "Alright, I can fix that. Can you get Leo and Raph?"
"Sure thing!" Mikey chirps.
He dashes out, and a mere seven seconds later he reenters with the last two turtles. Leonardo looks rather excited and hides his nervousness well, whilst Raph looks completely anxious.
"Okay, best men for the wedding," Donnie says, motioning for his brothers to come closer. "Let's work this out now."
The three turtles move closer, as told. Donnie taps his chin thoughtfully for a moment. Before he can speak, however, Mikey cuts in.
"Dudes, I can't pick between all of you! I don't want you guys getting your feelings hurt," he exclaims worriedly.
"That's why we're going to talk it out," Leo says gently. "I think we're all mature enough to decide on this without getting our feelings hurt."
"We already know that we're going to be each other's groomsmen," Raph points out. "The best man just does an extra speech."
"True," Donnie agrees. "Leo, Raph, have either of you put deep thought to this already?" Both nod their heads in response. He smiles. "I have too. Do you mind sharing?"
"I was...thinking of asking Casey," Raph admits. "Not that you guys aren't great, but-"
"Casey's your best friend! That's cool, bro." Mikey grins. "What about you guys?"
Leo shrugs. "It's a toss up between you three. I can't decide."
"I've been narrowing it down a little," Donnie admits.
"Hey Leo, Raph? No hard feelings if I ask Donnie?" Mikey wonders. He smiles tentatively. "I mean, you guys always said you were one half of the team and Donnie and I were the other. Not A or B...just pair-wise?"
Leo chuckles lightly. "It's all good, Mikey."
"You idiot," Raph mutters fondly, giving the orange-masked turtle's head a noogie.
"Sweet, bros!" Mikey laughs. He spins to Donnie. "So D? Wanna be my best turtle?"
Donnie chuckles. "I'd be honoured."
"BOOYAKASHA!"
He does a goofy little dance around the table, making his brothers shake their heads slowly, heaving soft sighs. Leo looks between Donnie and Raph, unsure.
"Well...now that you're already Mikey's best man," he starts, "Raph? You up for giving a speech about Des and I?"
Raph arches an eye-ridge, but the devious grin on his face says otherwise. "Oh, I could give one shell of a speech, Fearless."
"So that leaves Leo and Mikey not being someone's best man," Donnie murmurs, fretting a little. "And there's only my choice left...sewer apples."
A warm arm wraps around Donnie's shoulders and he glances beside him to see Mikey. The orange-masked turtle flashes a cheery smile that automatically makes his tall brother feel a little better.
"You're already my best turtle, Don," he says. "You should pick Leo."
"What? But then you won't be anyone's," Leo points out, his face taking on a more guilty countenance.
Mikey shrugs. "Ah, I'm all good. But..." He points to Raph. "I wanna ask Casey if we can tag team on the speech."
Raph smirks. "Sure, little brother. I'm sure Casey won't mind."
"Yes! This is so perfect!" He laughs loudly and spins around once in complete excitement.
"Glad I could help," Donnie says, turning back to the guest list. "Now...for everything else..."
"Any luck with cake and the dresses for the girls?" Leo wonders.
The purple-masked turtle rubs his head a little. "Well, April's got some connections. She contacted some friends of hers for help. Apparently they're trustworthy."
"Friends? Human friends?" Raph demands, unsure.
Donnie waves his hand a little in a "calm down" gesture. "It's okay, Raph. It's just two girls who went to school in the same grades as Taylor and April. I think their names were..."
"Piper and Madison," Mikey reminds him. "They went out with the human patches for shopping today, remember? They're getting decorations, food, the dresses..." He trails off, his eyes seeming to sparkle with awe. "Lisey is gonna look so beautiful..."
"Right! Thanks Mikey." Donnie smiles, looking back at Raph and Leo. "Piper got mutated a while ago, so they're all good with mutants and such."
"Wow, glad that all worked out," Leo comments. "And...uh...speaking of groomsmen and such, have the girls worked out the bridesmaid and maid of honour preparations?"
"They have! If I remember correctly, Destiny asked Sarina and vice versa. Taylor asked Annalise, and...Annalise asked April," Donnie recites. He smiles.
"And the guest list?" Raph asks. "How's that coming along?"
"So far, I've got the Mighty Mutanimals, Mr Kurtzman, Mr Murikami and his daughter..." He looks up. "You know, the one who just came over from Japan to help take over the business?"
"Right! She's the really kind one that always smells like spices!" Mikey pipes up.
"Her, yes. After that...well, we've still got nothing on Mr Fuentes or Mrs Hughes," the purple-masked turtle mentions, looking to Raph and Mikey. "Have Taylor and Annalise mentioned anything?"
"I'd rather he not show up, if you ask me," Raph grunts. Mikey just shakes his head.
Donnie sighs. "Okay, I'll put them down as a maybe. Then...we've offered spots to Piper and Maddie, and I checked around to see how Timothy was doing. He's fine now...more perky and such since I got the retro mutagen working-"
"He actually talked to you?" the three other brothers ask in disbelief. "I thought he hated us!"
Donnie smiles sweetly. "Well, he's forgiven us now. He asked if he could bring a plus one, I said that was good." He exhales, his russet eyes seeming to swim with exhaustion over the amount of people actually showing up. "Then I checked around for any sign of Bishop, Mondo, and Muckman. I've asked Pigeon Pete to keep an eye out and give them the invitations if he sees them."
"Hey dudes, what about the Nezbits? Should we invite them?" Mikey asks.
They fall silent, their shoulders sagging a little with remembrance. Leo and Raph glance at each other swiftly, while Mikey takes on a look of concern.
"It could be tough for Casey...but you know, they're our friends too. I haven't talked to them in a while," the orange-masked turtle admits.
Donnie smiles lightly and pens the family's names down on the page. "I think they'd be glad to attend." He takes a deep breath. "The Murikami family offered to take care of the reception after the ceremonies, making all the food and such." He pauses as he casts a relieved look to his brothers. "Free of charge, might I add?"
"Next on the list," Raph butts in, throwing his arm around Leo's shoulders. "Leo, we've got to plan your Bachelor Party since you're getting hitched first."
"Hey, we're planning everyone's," he points out, a small smile on his lips.
"But mainly yours! Party planning time!" Mikey whoops, doing another happy dance around the table.
Donnie only laughs at his brother's antics.
