Chapter 13 - Love is True

Ash's POV
Today was two days after the liberation. I was happy. There was a celebration to obviously celebrate what me and Serena had done to free our regions.

I couldn't wait for the end of it. I had something very special for Serena. A great surprise, that will change the kingdoms forever.

I had a smile on my face the entire day. Serena was obviously wondering why, but I couldn't tell her. It would ruin the gift. It was one of the best things for two royals to do.

I looked at my hand that was in my pocket. The surprise was in there, and I'll give you a hint. Serena has to marry into another royal family.

"Ashy, why can't you tell me!" Serena complains as she starts pouting.

"Because, sweetheart, it would ruin the surprise." I respond as I pull her into a sideways hug.

Serena calms down and pulls me into a full hug. I have to admit, I love her hugs.

"You better not let me down Ashy." Serena says whispering into my ear.

"Don't worry honey. You will be happier than you ever had been." I say whispering back to her.

I had told my family what I had planned, and they had set up the other half of the surprise. Fireworks. I think this'll be Serena's best day of her life.

Eventually it became time for the end of the celebration. It would be very lively. Serena grabbed my arm, and held on tightly.

I look at her and see a massive smile on her face. She won't know what will happen. Oh the surprise she will never forget.

We walked out to meet the crowd of people cheering our names. I had invited Serena's family over, and they were watching from behind us. They didn't even know the surprise though, except her father.

I motioned my hand to quiet everyone down. My father had also helped, by motioning himself.

"Please welcome your future King, Ash Ketchum, and a very special guest!" My father shouts

I was wearing my formal outfit for the day. Why wouldn't I. Serena was wearing a dress, a blue one that brought out her eyes. I really liked what she chose.

Everyone quickly quiets down and stares at Serena holding onto my arm. I can see a look of shock on most faces, but looks of knowing on a few others.

I look at Serena and reach into my pocket, carefully taking it out, and making sure no one could see what it was.

Serena had talked a little along with me. But eventually it became time to show the surprise to Serena, and the kingdom.

It was a tradition to do this in front of everyone. A tradition since, well, a really long time ago. I couldn't wait to carry it out.

I ask Serena to step back a little from me. She releases my arm and takes a few steps backwards. I get onto one knee, and hold my hand out. I open my hand and the crowd gasps.

I held a shiny gold ring in my hand. Then, Serena had her hands over her mouth. Anyone that was still talking, had completely stopped with surprise.

"Princess Serena... I must say that you are one beautiful girl. And also, I realized that I really and truly loved you." I say slowly so she can take it all in.

"Princess Serena Yvonne? Will you marry me?" I ask her with all the hope in the world in my eyes.

Her eyes widened. A few years formed in her eyes, and her hands were clasped over her heart.

"Yes Ash! Of course! I'd love to marry you!" She exclaims loudly.

I put the ring on her finger, and she pulls me into a tight hug, then I decide to kiss her. She enjoyed that kiss more than any she'd ever had, I could tell.

I could hear cheering from the crowd, and I heard fireworks going off. Even Serena's family was cheering. I didn't know they would. Oh well, This was one the best day of my life.

"Please welcome your future King and Queen of the Kanto region!" My father shouts as me and Serena look back towards the crowd.

Everyone erupted in cheers, well into louder cheers, and we had a ton of fireworks that were going off. The celebration ended in a massive success.

As me and Serena left the town with our families, I had left with a feeling of accomplishment in my life. Serena was extremely happy.

She kept looking at the ring on her finger, as we walked and she held my arm with her arms and hands.

Today, people have learned that Love can very well be true, even after and during catastrophe....
