Triplets
"It can't be that hard," Josh said.
"Really?" Tyler asked. "You don't think taking care of three year and a half year olds would be hard?"
"I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard, but I don't think it could be that hard," Josh said. "They don't do much when I'm home. They just want hugs and food. It's basically like having four of you. And you're easy to take care of. I just have to feed you more and kiss you more."
"They don't do anything because they're exhausted from me having to take care of them all day," Josh said. "You have to feed them, hold them, deal with them crying, change their diapers, keep them happy, take them to the store to go grocery shopping, not let them attack each other, take them somewhere and push them on the swings. They take a lot, Josh."
Josh shrugged, sipping his mug of coffee before setting it down and picking one of his sons up. "You're easy peasey, aren't ya Gus Gus?"
Gus was drooling all over himself, trying to take off his diaper.
"And with that one you have to make sure he stays in his clothes," Tyler said, pointing at Gus. "He gets that from you."
"Gus is my twin," Josh said, kissing the baby's cheek. "Aren't ya, Gus Gus?"
By that point, Gus's diaper was off and on the floor.
"Gus! You're naked!" Josh exclaimed.
"I told you. He takes after you."
The baby just giggled and clapped, continuing to drool excitedly.
Josh and Tyler had been married since they were 21. Now they were both 28 and had adopted triplets about a year ago.
They had two boys and one girl. Augustus who was nicknamed Gus or Gus Gus, Finley who was nicknamed Fin, and their baby girl Hazel who they had loads of nicknames for.
Gus Gus was the very excited baby. He always wanted to dance and have fun. He was just like Josh, very energetic and up for anything.
Fin was their studious little baby boy who loved being read to and learning new things. He tended to be quieter than Gus, too.
And Hazel was the princess of the house. Being the only girl, she got spoiled like crazy. She was so sweet and happy, always just wanting snuggles and kisses from her daddies.
All in all, the boys couldn't ask for better kids.
But even the best kids can be tiring.
Especially when there were three of them.
Josh worked full time, being the head of some major company, making enough money that Tyler didn't ever have to work. So Tyler was a stay at home dad, taking care of the babies all the time.
Pretty much every night he came home, Tyler was exhausted. He never really understood why, though. He got to be at home all day. How hard could it be?
"Here's an idea," Tyler said. "How about you take off of work on Friday to take care of the kids while I go spend some time with my friends?"
"Deal," Josh grinned. "Sounds like a three day weekend to me."
Tyler rolled his eyes. He couldn't wait for the end of Josh's constant remarks.
***
Finally, it was Friday.
Tyler couldn't be more excited. He got up and got dressed, kissing a sleeping Josh's lips, grinning as he heard all three of the kids crying, knowing Josh would finally get a dose of what he did every single day.
"Babies are up," he hummed against his lips.
"What?" Josh asked sleepily.
"It's Friday. Have fun. I'll be home tonight," Tyler grinned.
And with that, he headed out the door.
***
Josh dragged himself out of bed, going to the kids' nursery to find all three of them crying.
"What's wrong??" He asked them as if they could respond.
He took in a deep breath through his nose and gagged. That's why they were crying. They all had dirty diapers.
He picked Gus out of his crib, lying him down on the little changing station Tyler had set up. He changed him and put him back in the crib, next taking Fin and changing him, then finally ending with Hazel.
"Holy... oh my God, Hazel," he gagged as he took off her diaper. "You're the one stinking up the place. What did you eat?! Why is there so much of it?!"
He changed her with his eyes half closed so he wouldn't have to see it, his shirt pulled over his nose.
"Good Lord, girlfriend," he said, putting her back in her crib. "That was awful. That was absolutely disgusting. Please don't do that again until Tyler gets back."
He then went to Gus's crib to try and get him so he could change his clothes, but he kept crawling away.
"Augustus, you can't really go that far," Josh said. "And you can barely walk. I don't think it's worth putting up the fight."
But Gus kept running back and forth in his crib, Josh unable to grab him. "How did you get so fast?" He asked.
He then went to Fin's crib and got him, the baby still crying. "What's wrong, Fin?" He asked as he put his cute little clothes on him.
The baby just kept crying and crying and crying, Josh putting him back in his crib hoping that'd make him stop.
He then got to Hazel, the perfect little angel who didn't stink anymore who let him dress her just fine.
"See, Gus?" He asked the baby. "Hazel did a great job letting me put clothes on her."
Still, Gus refused to let Josh put clothes on him.
Meanwhile, Fin was still screaming and crying in his crib.
Josh sighed and picked him up, bouncing him in his arms. He was ready for the crying to stop. "You're ok. You're ok. You're ok."
Eventually he got Gus in a shirt, but there was no way he'd be able to put pants on that baby.
He carried them each out to their kitchen, putting them in their designated high chairs.
"What do you guys eat for breakfast?" Josh asked them.
The kids were all quiet. They couldn't talk or understand what Josh was asking.
"JDKSKAKDKDA!" Hazel suddenly yelled excitedly, reaching her hands out to Josh with a wide smile.
"Hi, Hazel Basil!" Josh grinned, walking up to her and holding both her hands as he kissed her nose. "I looooove you."
Gus and Fin then started crying as well.
"What?! What's wrong??" Josh asked.
They were both absolutely sobbing.
"I-I Love you both too!" Josh exclaimed, quickly kissing both of them. "JishJish loves you soooo much! He promises!"
The boys stopped crying, just sniffling and wiping their teary eyes.
Josh sighed, shaking his head. This was gonna be a long day.
"Would you eat a banana? Tyler said you can't have solid food," Josh said, talking to himself more than anything as he went around the kitchen. "Baby food! Haha! This stuff literally says 'baby food' on it! I'm the most amazing parent ever."
He opened one container, setting it on the little tray that was connected to Hazel's high chair. He then gave her a little spoon, the baby just staring at him and blinking.
"What?" Josh asked.
Hazel just kept staring At him.
"You can't feed yourself?" Josh asked.
Again, she continued staring.
"Alright, Fine. You know what? I'm a great dad who loves his kids. I can feed them all one by one. That's fine. Nothing I can't do."
He dipped the spoon in the food, holding it to Hazel's mouth but she wouldn't open.
"Say 'ahhhhh', Hazel! Eat your squished peaches!" Josh said.
It turns out Hazel didn't like peaches.
So he moved to Fin. "Do you like peaches, Fin?"
Finley immediately opened his mouth, humming happily as Josh fed him.
"Yeah you do! Finny looooooves peaches!" Josh smiled, feeding him the whole container.
He then went back in the pantry and found blueberry flavored baby food.
Hazel didn't like blueberries, either.
Neither did Gus.
So he fed it to Fin.
He got the Apple kind.
Hazel didn't like blueberries.
Neither did Gus, again.
So he fed it to Fin. Again.
Eventually, he found out Hazel liked carrots and Gus liked strawberries after he fed Fin two more containers of baby food.
"Ok, now that you're all full, I was thinking we'd go play in the play r- one of you stinks again."
He looked to see Hazel giggling and clapping excitedly. "It's you, isn't it, Hazel?"
He picked her up, gagging again. "Jeez Louise, Hazel."
He took her to the nursery and changed her, this time being even worse than before.
Once he carried her back, he saw Gus was gone.
"Uh... where's your brother, Fin?"
Fin pointed over, Josh turning to see Gus was climbing on the table, dancing as he finally stood at the top.
"Augustus! No sir! That is dangerous!" Josh exclaimed, grabbing him from off the table so he was now holding two babies.
And Fin started crying. He felt left out.
"Fin, baby! I'm sorry! I can't hold you right now!" Josh told him frantically. "Daddy will snuggle you in a minute, ok?"
The tears didn't stop.
"Fin..." he sighed, putting both Hazel and Augustus down since he couldn't take the crying anymore. He picked the baby up, giving him all his attention.
He then heard screaming, seeing Hazel being sat on by her brother.
"Augustus! We do not sit on our sisters!" Josh exclaimed, picking the tubby boy up and holding him, having to give Fin lots of kissies so he would stop crying.
And now Hazel was crying.
"Hazel, princess, I'm so sorry," Josh said, sitting down on the floor and hugging her.
She continued to cry, pointing to her belly where Gus had been sitting.
"I know, princess, I know," he said, just wanting her to calm down.
He finally got them to the play room, letting them loose in there.
He sat down on the couch they had in there and watched, having to get Gus out of dangerous situations multiple times.
Hazel just sat in Josh's lap the whole time, Fin laying down on a big bean bag and watching everything.
So pretty much just Gus was playing, but Josh was hoping that'd burn some energy out of him.
But then he started to feel bad. Fin looked like he was being left out just sitting alone on the bean bag while Ruby sat in Josh's lap and Gus played around.
He carried Ruby over to the bean bag, holding both kids in his lap while they watched Gus play.
He read them a story, looking up halfway through when he heard
"HA DADDY!" Gus yelled, meaning to say 'hi daddy.'
His eyes widened as he saw Gus jump from the top of the couch onto the floor, quickly moving the two babies off his lap and grabbing him.
"Gus, honey, you can't climb things like that. You're gonna hurt yourself," Josh told him.
Gus babbled something with a smile, getting up and going over to his siblings, giving them both hugs which made the two babies smile.
He really was a sweet baby, he just wasn't... the smartest.
He had thought earlier sitting on his sister would show her that he loved her. And that throwing his spoon at Fin was giving him a chance to try the type of food he got for breakfast.
"There's my sweet boy," Josh said with a soft smile.
And for a minute, all was quiet.
Until suddenly he saw something out of the corner of his eye.
Fin was throwing up.
"Oh, Finley," Josh said, quickly picking him up and rushing the crying baby to the bathroom. "Shit shit shit, it's on the carpet. Oh, fuck! Don't say shit! Shit is a bad word! So is fuck! Don't say any of those words ever!"
He quickly got Fin in the bath tub, washing him off and putting his clothes in the washer before sprinting to the play room and scrubbing the puke out of the carpet.
"Why is it green?" He asked. "Wait! Why did I leave him in the bath tub?!"
He quickly ran back to the bathroom, seeing the baby had thrown up again in the bath tub.
"Fin..." he said sympathetically, draining the water and cleaning out the tub while holding the wet, naked, crying baby and drawing another bath.
"Hazel! Gus! Come here!" He called as he realized he left the two other babies alone.
The two waddled to the bathroom, Josh shutting the door behind them.
"Ok, we're gonna all sit down on the floor," he said as he washed off Fin.
The babies sat on the floor, Hazel and Gus babbling at each other as if they were talking.
Eventually, Fin was clean. He told the two other babies to follow him as he carried Fin to the nursery, putting him in new clothes.
He let out a sigh before they all went to the living room, Josh deciding a movie would be a great way to make them all quiet and tired.
Hazel sat in his lap, Gus on his right side and Fin on his left as they watched finding Nemo.
Two hours later, all three babies were asleep.
He carefully put them in their cribs before going to make lunch.
An hour later he realized he hadn't eaten at all today.
He recalled Tyler talking about how he barely eats anymore because he's so occupied with the kids, and that really made Josh sad now that he thought about it.
Tyler rarely had time to take care of himself anymore, and he hadn't seen his friends since they had adopted the kids.
He couldn't remember the last time Tyler did something for himself.
He made lunch, the babies waking up from their two hour nap fairly happy to his surprise.
They all ate lunch, Gus now much less energetic and actually staying in his chair.
This was the first time Josh had eaten all day, and it was already almost 3:00.
They then all went to the playroom, but as Josh was carrying Hazel, he smelled something worse than anything he'd ever smelled.
"O-oh my God, Hazel," he gagged, running with her to the nursery. "Princess, it went all up your back. How did you even...? How did you manage this?" He asked her. "Do you make daddy deal with this every day?"
The baby just giggled happily, kicking her legs.
Josh had to clean her clothes as well, changing her diaper and putting her in pajamas.
He returned to see Fin and Gus conversing in their high chairs, Fin giggling at the sound that Gus made smacking his tubby little belly.
Josh took them all out of their high chairs. He set them on the ground and told them to follow him, but all three of them rushed to the door that was leading to the backyard.
"Oh, no, guys," he said. "We're not gonna go outside. We're gonna go to the playroom."
All three of them turned around, pouting.
Josh figured Tyler normally takes the kids outside after lunch and that's why all three of them were ready to go.
"Fine," he sighed. He opened the door, all three of them waddling to different places.
Gus to the play set, Hazel to the garden, and Fin to the outdoor couches.
Josh sighed, not knowing how to deal with all this.
They played for about an hour before all the kids started to cry again.
They missed their TyTy.
Josh was more stressed than ever before. Nothing would make any of them stop crying.
Around 6:00, Tyler arrived home, all four of his family members running up to him.
Josh kissed his lips deeply, hugging him tightly. "Please save me from this."
Tyler giggled, kissing him back before getting on the ground and hugging and kissing each one of his babies.
"Hi, guys! I miss you so much!" He smiled.
Hazel grinned as she plopped down in Tyler's lap.
"Ewwwww, Hazel," Tyler giggled, his nose scrunched up. "You stink. Did you change her?" He asked, looking up at Josh.
"Nine times. That kid went through three outfits," Josh said.
"Yeah, she does that," Tyler giggled, kissing her nose. "But she's so frickin' sweet, it doesn't matter."
The baby blushed, Tyler grinning as he hugged her tighter. "My lil bean princess."
Next Fin came into his lap. "Hi, Fin! I missed you! How'd he do?"
"He got sick this morning," Josh said tiredly.
"Awww, Fin," Tyler pouted, kissing the top of his head. "Poor baby. Did you give him medicine?"
"No."
"You didn't give him medicine?!"
"I didn't know you could give babies medicine!"
Tyler got up, giving the baby something to make him feel better. He then set him down, Gus tackling Tyler in a big hug.
"Hi, Gus! I'm surprised daddy even managed to get you in a shirt," He chuckled.
"That kid," Josh said, pointing to Gus. "I have never seen a kid want to climb and jump and be so dangerous in my life."
"Yeah, he's the little adventurer. He didn't get on the others' nerves too much, did he?" Tyler asked.
"He sat on Ruby. That made her cry. But he was just tryna be friendly."
"Gus, we've talked about this before," Tyler said. "Sitting on people is not a way to start a friendship."
"I LOVE YOUUUUU," Gus yelled with a smile, kissing Tyler's nose.
"That's how you start friendships," Tyler giggled. "Good job."
"I don't know how you do it," Josh sighed. "I don't know how you don't scream at me when I come home that I don't do anything with them. It's 6:15 and I want to go to bed."
"Welcome to my world," Tyler giggled.
"Do you want me to start like, coming home earlier?" Josh asked. "To help make dinner and get them to bed?"
"If you want," Tyler shrugged. "If not I can handle it. I've handled it for the past year."
"I will," Josh said.
"Cool," Tyler smiled softly.
"How was your day off?" Josh asked, sitting on the ground and holding Fin in his lap while Tyler's held Gus and Hazel.
"It was great," Tyler said. "That's the first time I've eaten an actual breakfast or lunch in a year."
"Baby, that's not good," Josh said, holding Tyler's hand.
Hazel smacked Josh's hand. "No, sir!" She told him, holding Tyler's hand.
Tyler giggled and kissed the top of her head, shrugging. "It's fine. I love these three, and sometimes when you have kids you've gotta put them first."
"But not all the time," Josh said. "Start eating breakfast at least."
Again, Tyler shrugged. "I'll try, I guess."
Josh leaned forward and kissed his forehead. "Well I'm not super dad like you are so I didn't make dinner. Can we just order pizza or something?"
Tyler giggled and nodded, ordering the kind of pizza he and Josh liked and one cheese one to cut up for the kids.
Josh and Tyler fed the babies their tiny little bites of pizza, Josh voluntarily changing Ruby's diaper after she ate too much.
They got the kids to bed then went to their own room, snuggling up and turning on the TV.
"I should have never said that wasn't that hard," Josh said. "That was harder than I could have ever imagined."
"That's what she said," Tyler snickered.
"Tyler Robert Joseph-Dun, you are a father. Your jokes are supposed to be clean," Josh said with a grin.
"Typically they are! But I had to on that one. There was no way I couldn't," Tyler said.
Josh rolled his eyes, kissing Tyler's lips. "I really, really don't know how you're ever not too tired to have sex."
"If I'm being honest, typically, I am," Tyler giggled. "But I still do my thing with you because it makes you happy. And I always keep it cold in the house at night since it helps the babies sleep better and you being on top of me warms me up."
Josh laughed and hugged Tyler tightly. "You shouldn't be too tired tonight... hm?"
"I'm not tired at all," Tyler smiled.
Josh grinned widely, rolling over so he was on top of Tyler and attacking his neck in love bites.
Tyler giggled and blushed, kissing Josh's temple and allowing him to do his thing.
Afterward, for the first time ever, in all nearly 10 years they'd been having sex, Josh fell asleep first.
"G'night, Joshua," Tyler smiled softly. "I love you."
